Over the past centuries, industrialization in developed and developing countries has had a negative impact on global warming, releasing $CO_2$ emissions into the Earth's atmosphere. In recent years, the transportation sector, which emits one-third of total $CO_2$ emissions in the United States, has adapted by implementing a climate change action plan to reduce $CO_2$ emissions. Having an environmental policy might be an essential factor in mitigating the man-made global warming threats to protect public health and the coexistent needs of current and future generations; however, to my best knowledge, no research has been conducted in such a context with appropriate statistical validation process to evaluate the effects of climate change policy on $CO_2$ emission reduction in recent years in the U.S. transportation. The empirical findings using an entity fixed-effects model with valid statistical tests show the positive effects of climate change policy on $CO_2$ emission reduction in a state. With all the 49 states joining the climate change action plans, the U.S. transportation sector is expected to reduce its $CO_2$ emissions by 20.2 MMT per year, and for the next 10 years, the cumulated $CO_2$ emission reduction is projected to reach 202.3 MMT, which is almost equivalent to the $CO_2$ emissions from the transportation sector produced in 2012 by California, the largest $CO_2$ emission state in the nation.

District is not only a place that every urban activities are executing but also basic unit that are forming urban structure. Therefore this study tried to make land use-transportation model through analyzing $CO_2$ exhausting volumes by assuming 270 scenarios those are postulated various land use patterns and transport policies in District. As results, this study shows best District Unit Design technique is the policy that develop equally all blocks or only outer blocks and introduction of car free zone to inner 2 way streets. Most important policy in order to reduce $CO_2$ gas is to introduce Transportation Demand Management especially in case of hyper high density development. In case of low density development, policy of car free streets in 2 ways roads is efficiency for reducing $CO_2$ gas. And suggested land use-transportation model will be good for choosing alternatives those are able to reduce $CO_2$ in District Unit.
The objective of this study were to measure concentrations of indoor pollutants in public transportation systems to provide importance of indoor air quality in transportation systems to policy makers. Indoor air quality of the pollutants (CO, CO$_2$, PM-10) and environmental sources (temperature, humidity) were measured at subway, seat-type bus, and city-type bus in the Seoul area from April to September 1992. The same pollutants and environmental sources were also measured at selected bus stops and subway stations during October 1991-September 1992. The mean concentrations of indoor pollutants in the public transportation systems were showed 115.5 $\mu$g/m$^3$ in PM-10, 6.8 ppm in CO, and 2167.9 ppm in CO$_2$, respectively. The mean values of PM-10 and CO showed below the U.S. 24 hour standard value of PM-10 and the Korea ambient CO standard, while the mean concentrations of CO$_2$ exceeded the Korea CO$_2$ standard. The highest levels of indoor concentration at public transportation systems were PM-10 of 134.6 $\mu$g/m$^3$ in the subway, CO of 8.9 ppm in the city-type bus, CO$_2$ of 2,511.1ppm in seat-type bus, respectively. The results showed that indoor air quality in bus and subway seemed likely to be affected by number of passengers and outdoor air infiltrated from exhausted gases of automobiles.

The transportation sector accounts for 33% of the total $CO_2$ emissions. Effective control measures for reducing $CO_2$ emissions are urgently needed to address global warming. Objective and reliable methods to estimate $CO_2$ emissions are a prerequisite for the implementation of such effective control measures. However, existing models have not been successful. Even though the average-speed model is one of the most convenient and useful methods for estimating $CO_2$ emissions, it cannot distinguish between a variety of roads as well as traffic conditions in the model. The results of this study found that there may be significant discrepancies between emissions estimated by the current average-speed model and those measured in real driving conditions. This paper proposed the subdivision of emission factors in the average-speed model depending on both traffic and road conditions.

Formation and transportation of $CO_2$-hydrate slurry was conducted by circulating saturated water with $CO_2$ through a double-tube type heat exchanger which was cooled down by brine. The inner diameter and circulation length of the heat exchanger were 1 inch and 20 m, respectively. Water in tank was supersaturated by injected $CO_2$ and the operation pressure was maintained at 3,000 to 4,000 kPa with fluid-temperature of less than $9^{\circ}C$. $CO_2$ hydrate mass fraction was calculated based on density of $CO_2$-hydrate slurry mixture. Results showed that the $CO_2$-hydrate slurry could be circulated without blockage for 1 hr. Circulation status of the $CO_2$-hydrate slurry was also visualized.

As the quantity of goods transported, port industry and inland transport industry have developing still, but almost 80% of inland transport industry consists of ground transport. According to issue "global warming", many regulations and agreements with countries in the world are becoming necessary and it is being fulfilled now. It is sure that Korea will have duty to reduce CO2 emission from 2013. And inland transport have to cut CO2 emission down. Therefore, this paper will address that calculate CO2 emission under route of transportation container at Korea by using O/D analysis. And then, it will predict routes of transportation containers which can reduce CO2 emission.

This study investigated the thermal conductivity of $CO_2$ gas mixtures in order to ascertain the effects of particular impurities in $CO_2$ in pipeline transportation. We predicted the thermal conductivity of three $CO_2$ gas mixtures ($CO_2+N_2$, $CO_2+H_2S$, and $CO_2+CH_4$) by utilizing three different methods : Chung et al., TRAPP, and the REFPROP model. We validated predictions by comparing the estimated results with 216 experimental data for $CO_2+CH_4$, $CO_2+N_2$, and $CO_2+C_2H_6$. Following $CO_2$ transportation conditions, we observed that the model developed by Chung et al. showed the lowest mean deviation of 3.07%. Further investigations were carried out on the thermal conductivity of $CO_2$ gas mixtures based on the Chung et al. model including the effects of the operation parameters of pressure, temperature, and mole fraction of impurities.

In this research, the $CO_2$ absorption performance of mortar was investigated. The level of $CO_2$ absorption in mortar with various binders including cement and nonsintered cement was examined. As a result for the mortar with photosynthetic bacteria, the compressive strength was similar to the one without the bacteria at early age but decreased at the age of 28 days. However, for the $CO_2$ absorption, with photosynthetic, the performance of the mortar with OPC, and nonsintered cement deceased to 21%(234 ppm) and 19.7%(243 ppm) respectively after 12 hours age.

This study develops a $CO_2$ emissions estimation method, which considers different O/D travel patterns and through traffic volumes, in different regions for $CO_2$ emissions management in the field of transportation. In the research, O/D and network data provided by the Korea Transport Database (KTDB) Center are used as basic data. The results show that the total emission was similar to the Metropolitan's total emission which was estimated by KTDB (2009). With the analysis focusing on Gyeonggi-do, the results show that $CO_2$ emission from through traffic volumes was greater than $CO_2$ emissions of the Intra-Regional in southern regions; By contrast, $CO_2$ emissions of the Intra-Regional was greater than that from through traffic volumes in northern regions. Therefore, the $CO_2$ emissions management needs to be segregated into local government and nation with each travel pattern.

Mobile air conditioning(MAC) systems of light-duty vehicles consume the most energy among auxiliary parts. Vehicle $CO_2$ reduction policies in Korea, US EPA and EU include the strategies to reduce additional $CO_2$ by MAC operation with providing incentive for the high-efficient MAC technologies. It is under development how to estimate MAC $CO_2$ and to differentiate advanced or high-efficient MAC system in US EPA and EU. The additional energy by MAC operation would beaffected by not only driving patterns but also environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity. In this study, we estimated MAC $CO_2$ of Korean light-duty vehicles with various driving cycles and environmental conditions. Test results were corrected to reference conditions for varied temperature and humidity during tests to get the comparable data for test vehicles. The test results showed that high-efficient MAC technologies have potential to reduce MAC $CO_2$ approximately by 50%. Considering the rate of MAC $CO_2$ to vehicle $CO_2$, it is expected that the introduction of high-efficient MAC technologies would considerably reduce vehicle $CO_2$ emission in MAC operation.
