The Study on Reduction Method of CO2 Emission from Ships (선박에서의 CO2 배출량 저감 방안 연구)

  • This Paper presented the reduction methods of $CO_2$ emission from ships during voyage. In order to decrease $CO_2$ emission during voyage the equation was established and conducted the study about the relationship between ship speed, the propulsive efficiency and its $CO_2$ production. The results obtained from the examinations are as follows : 1. $CO_2$ emission from sailing ships can be decreased by reducing specific fuel oil consumption of main diesel engine, coefficient of total resistance and ship speed and also by increasing propeller efficiency. 2. Diesel-electric propulsion system is more effective than diesel-mechanical system to decrease the level of $CO_2$ emission during long voyage. 3. Good condition of ship's hull surface, rudder and propeller's surface can decrease the quantity of fuel oil and $CO_2$ emission by reducing the resistance of ship that can rise the propeller efficiency 4. $CO_2$ emitted from ships can be decreased in a global scale by giving attention to the synthetic transport efficiency.

  • This numerical study was to investigate the effect of $CO_2$ addition on the structures and NOx formation characteristics in $CH_4$ counterflow diffusion flame. The importance of radiation effect was identified and $CO_2$ addition effect was investigated in terms of thermal and chemical reaction effect. Also the causes of NOx reduction were clarified by separation method of each formation mechanisms. The results were as follows : The radiation effect was intensified by $CO_2$ addition. Thermal effect mainly contributed to the changes in flame structure and the amount of NO formation but the chemical reaction effect also cannot be neglected. The reduction of thermal NO was dominant with respect to reduction rate, but that of prompt NO was dominant with respect to total amount.

Research on Improvement of CH4 Reduction Performance of NGOC for CNG Bus (CNG 버스용 NGOC의 CH4 저감 성능 향상을 위한 연구)

  • Recently, in order to meet the stricter emission regulations, the proportion of after-treatments for vehicles and vessels has been increasing gradually. The objective of this study is to investigate the improvement of $CH_4$ reduction ability of natural gas oxidation catalyst (NGOC), which reduces toxic gases emitted from CNG buses. Thirteen NGOCs were prepared, and the conversion performance of noxious gases according to the type of supports, the loading amount of noble metal, and surfactant and aging were determined. Support Zeolite supported on No. 3 $NGOC(1Pt-1Pd-3MgO-3CeO_2/(46TiO_2+23Al_2O_3+23Zeolite)$ is an anionic alkali metal/earth metal component that improved the oxidation reactivity between CO and NO and noble metal dispersion, and thus enhanced the $CH_4$ reduction ability. As the loading amount of Pd, a noble metal with a high selectivity to $CH_4$, was increased, the number of reaction sites was increased and the ability to reduce $CH_4$ was improved. No. 11 $NGOC(1Pt-1Pd-3MgO-3CeO_2/(Z20+Al80)$(pH=8.5), to which nitrate surfactant had been added, exhibited well dispersed catalyst particles with no agglomeration and improved the $CH_4$ reduction ability by 5-15%. The $NGOC(2Pt-2Pd-3Cr-3MgO/90Al_2O_3)$(48h aging), which was mildly thermal aged for 48h, increased the $CH_4$ reduction ability to about 10% or less as compared with No. 12 NGOC(Fresh).

A Study on the Effect of strength improvement and $CO_2$ reduction by using Eco-concrete in construction site (에코콘크리트 현장 적용에 따른 강도 상승 효과 및 이산화탄소 절감 효과에 관한 연구)

  • Blast furnance slag cement is a cement manufactured with using industrial by-product and it can reduce $CO_2$ by replacing cement when same uit volume concrete is produced. But Blast furnance slag has a short point that early strength of concrete is not good in winter season and it can be used. So, in this study, as long as replacement ratio of Blast furnance slag to original portland cement is under 30%, developed cement, ecoment, improve early strength of concrete and it applied to constructoin site. As a result, it improves 37% in terms of 1-day strength, it reduces 6.7% in terms of $CO_2$ emission when $1m^3$ concrete was produced. The importance and applicability of study wll be expected to increase cosidering global effort and green growth-strategy in country for reducing greenhouse gases.

  • 최근 환경오염 문제에 대한 관심이 고조되며 건설분야를 비롯한 각 산업분야에서는 $CO_2$저감 대책에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되어 왔다. 건설분야에서의 기존 연구는 대부분 시공 후 사용 및 유지관리 단계에 집중되어 있으며, 설계단계에서 구조재료 및 비구조 재료의 적절한 사용에 관련한 연구는 초기단계이다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 초고층건물 구조설계에서 사용되는 매입형 합성기둥 부재의 구조비용과 $CO_2$발생량을 동시에 최소화할 수 있는 다목적 최적설계기법을 제안하였다. 알고리즘의 검증을 위해 35층 건물의 기둥 설계에 적용하였으며, 적용결과 초기설계안보다 경제적이며 친환경적인 최적 설계안을 제시할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • Nowadays, Precast Concrete is adopted on most of construction, because of shortening construction period and good quality. In precast concrete, steam curing is necessary for getting proper strength, but it causes much CO2 and economc. Therefore, on this study, by using type III cement and hardening accelerator, early compressive strength was shown 13MPa for 6hr. From the result, removal form could be shorten. Furthermore, annual CO2 was reduced as much as 24% and also annual cost was decreased as much as 12%.

Development of Vortex Scrubber Using Electrolyzed Water for the Removal Efficiency Improvement of Minute Particles and Odor (미세분진 및 냄새제거 효율향상을 위한 선회류식 세정전해 기술개발)

  • According to Indoor Air Quality(IAQ) management law for multi-use buildings, SEEONE CO., Ltd. made pilot and tested it to remove minute particle, odor, VOCs, etc. within the standards of IAQ. This pilot made by SEEONE CO., Ltd. is vortex scrubber washing electrolyzed water. As 30 minutes test result in multi-use building indoor place, minute particle(the smoke of a cigarette) was reduced $920{\mu}g/m^3{\rightarrow}112{\mu}g/m^3$, gaseous contaminants was reduced Formaldehyde (HCHO) 20ppm$\rightarrow$4ppm, Ammonia($NH_3$) 50ppm$\rightarrow$1ppm, Trimethylamine ($(CH_3CH_2)_3N$) 15ppm$\rightarrow$trace, Methylethylketone($CH_3COC_2H_5$) 25ppm$\rightarrow$trace, Acetic acid ($CH_3COOH$) 20ppm$\rightarrow$trace, Acetaldehyde($CH_3CHO$) 15ppm$\rightarrow$2ppm and Acetone($CH_3COCH_3$) 50ppm$\rightarrow$N.D. The pilot test result of the air filter using electroyzed water in vortex scrubber showed high removal efficiency. Because purified air maintain indoor humidity of approximately 40~60%, so users can feel pleasant. In E.coli, S.aureus sterilization test and CODcr, turbidity treatment test by electrolysis, germs was sterilized over 99.99% and CODcr and turbidity was decreased gradually. So water used for washing can be reused by electrolysis.

$CO_2$ Reduction Effect Analysis of Modal Shift from Road to Rail using Life Cycle Thinking (전과정을 고려한 도로-철도 Modal Shift $CO_2$ 저감효과 분석)

  • Modal Shift from road to rail has been adapted in several countries as one of effective ways of reducing $CO_2$ emissions caused by transport. Generally, effect analysis of $CO_2$ reduction toward modal shift is calculated mainly from use stage and less consideration from other stages of life cycle, even though, in some case of modal shift needs that new line construction or new vehicle manufacturing. In this study, modal shift effect analysis is performed with considering construction, manufacturing vehicle and use stage. As a result we can get total $CO_2$ reduction effect using life cycle thinking and check the necessity of including other life cycle stage not only considering use stage. In conclusion, there is no $CO_2$ reduction effect if the reduction amount of $CO_2$ in use stage is not bigger than allocated annual amount of $CO_2$ in construction and manufacturing vehicle stage. According to this fact, analysing $CO_2$ reduction effect of Modal Shift should be considered not only the use stage.

  • In this study, the effects of two materials, active alumina and CaO based inorganic binder, which cause the side reaction on the K2CO3-based solid CO2 sorbents was investigated. K2CO3-based solid sorbents called KAM series was prepared by spray drying method and then measured its physical properties and CO2 sorption capacity. Among the KAM series sorbents, KAM(0.5) maintained high CO2 sorption capacity of 7.6 wt% after 3 cycle of sorption/regeneration reaction and showed very low attrition loss as low as 3.1 % which was measured by ASTM D5757-95.
