  • A network of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) will be required to carry the traffics(CVR, VBR, UBR, ABR) generated by a wide range of services. The traffic ABR uses the remined space of the CBR/VBR traffics bandwith. The Rate-based, the Credit-based, and the mixed method that are implementing the control loop of ABR traffic service is on study. In this paper, a new algorithm that can be considered in ATM and effectively manage ABR traffic using VS/VD method and EPRCA algorithm is proposed on the switch of the Rate-based method

  • This paper is concerned with the engineering characteristics weathered mudstone soil in Pohang area. The crushability of weathered Boil can be described in terms of the ratio of surface area(Sw'/Sw). In this study, the characteristics of weathered mudstone soil was investigated by performing teat such as compaction. CBR, permeability, and grain size according to compaction energy. The results are found as follows : (1) In generally, the specific gravity of weathered mudstone soil is very small and optimum moisture content (OMC) is large and maximum dry density is small (2) The CBR value increases as the compaction energy increases, but this value decreses from D -2 compaction(26kg.cm/cm3). the swelling ratio increases the npaction energy to 20.6kg.cm/cm" and decreases in all compaction energy from 20.6kg.cm/cm3 (3) As the compaction energy is small, the change of permeability due to water content is large and the difference between minimum coefficient of permeability and coefficient of permeability at OMC is large, but the difference is small as the compaction energy increases (4) The decrease of permeability due to the decrease of void ratio and the increase of ratio of surface area is caused by the crush of particle due to the increase in compaction energy. Especially, the compaction energy is smaller, the change of the ratio of surface area to the coefficient of permeability is larger.rger.

  • Much of Taegu and Kyungpook areas are composed of sedimentary rocks. This paper is concerned with the engineering characteristi os of weathered shale soils and mudstone soils. In this study, the engineering characteristics of weathered shale soils and mudstone soils are investigated by performing tests such as compaction, gradation, CBR permeability and crushability according to compaction energy and water content. The experiments were carried out to obtain the relationships of the ratio of surface area(Sw'/Sw) and the indez of crushing(IC) The results are found as follows : (1) Weathered shale soils are larger than weathered mudstone soils in maximun dry den sixty, but weathered shale soils are smaller than weathered mudstone soils in OMC. (2) Minimum permeability is found in OMC's 1~2% wet side, and the more compaction energy is high, the more the change's range of permeability becomes narrow. (3) There is linear correlation between the ratio of surface area and the indez of crushing. IC : 14.286sw'/Sw -8.429(r=0.9937) (4) Soaked CBR value becomes maximum in OMC's dry side, and it decreases as the water content increases. Whereas the more compaction energy is high the more unsoaked and soaked CBR values are high in OMC's dry side, unsoaked and soaked CBR values are opposed to that in OMC's wet side.

  • The plaster mixed to loam and sandy soil from 4 to 12 percent by dry soil weight, and the compaction, permeability, CBR, unconfined compressive strength and freezingthawing test were performed The results obtained are summarized as follows; 1.The coefficient of permeability reduced sharply at the plaster content of 4 percent, and in the CBR test, the swelling ratio reduced by the increment of plaster content. 2.The addition of plaster increased the unconfined compressive strength by the cementing effect, and it was found that the optimum plaster content, existed with the soil type, which showed the maximum strength 3.It was possible to enhance the unconfined compressive strength of the gypsum-lime-soil mixtures when the optimum content of plaster was mixed to the hydrated lime. 4.In case of sandy soil, the relative frost heave decreased with the mixture of plaster, however in loam soil, the relative frost heave began to increase at the plaster content of 12 percent than non-treated soil. Therefore the optimum plaster content existed for protecting frost heave by the different soil type. 5.The above summarized results make it possible to expect the effects such as improvement of soil properties, decrement of permeability, increment of unconfined compressive strength, and protection of frost heave, etc, therefore, it is considered that it is possible to it is plaster as sub-base materials of road.

  • In this paper, a cell scheduling algorithm which can be applied to all of the service class in ATM network is proposed. The proposed algorithm classifies the order of priority in each service class into 4 categories and generates the weight of each class service based on the traffic parameters which are negotiated in connection contract. The proposed algorithm guarantees QoS(Quality of Service) to the traffic which is sensitive to delay carrying out CBR and rt_VBR service. As it effectively manages the connection which has small bandwidth, it minimizes the cell delay in the queue. For verifying the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm the proposed algorithm is simulated with existing cell scheduling algorithm and the result is showed.

  • This article describes a laboratory research on stabilizing tropical peat using ordinary Portland cement (OPC) as a binding agent, and polypropylene and steel fibres as chemically inert additives. California bearing ratio (CBR) and unconfined compressive strength (UCS) tests were carried out to evaluate the increase in the strength of the stabilized samples compacted at their optimum moisture contents and air cured for up to 90 days. The results show that the UCS values of stabilized peat samples increased by as high as 748.8% by using OPC (5%), polypropylene fibres (0.15%), and steel fibres (2%). The CBR values of the samples stabilized with OPC (5%), polypropylene fibres (0.15%), and steel fibres (4%) showed an increase of as high as 122.7%. The stabilized samples showed a shrinkage in volume upon air curing and this shrinkage was measured by an index called, volume shrinkage index (VSI). The highest VSI recorded was 36.19% for peat without any additives; and the minimum was 0% for the sample containing 30% OPC, 0.15% polypropylene fibres and 2% steel fibres. The technique of stabilizing peat with OPC, polypropylene and fibres, coupled with air curing, appears to be cost-effective compared with other frequently used techniques.

  • Because the estimated cost at early stage has great influence on decisions of project owner, the importance of early cost estimation is increasing. However, it depends on experience and knowledge of the estimator mainly due to shortage of information. Those tendency developed into case-based reasoning(CBR) method which solves new problems by adapting previous solution to similar past problems. The performance of CBR model is affected by attribute weight, so that its accurate determination is necessary. Previous research utilizes mathematical method or subjective judgement of estimator. In order to improve the problem of previous research, this suggests CBR schematic cost estimation method using genetic algorithm to determine attribute weight. The cost model employs nearest neighbor retrieval for selecting past case. And it estimates the cost of new cases based on cost information of extracted cases. As the result of validation for 17 testing cases, 3.57% of error rate is calculated. This rate is superior to accuracy rate proposed by AACE and the method to determine attribute weight using multiple regression analysis and feature counting. The CBR cost estimation method improve the accuracy by introducing genetic algorithm for attribute weight. Moreover, this makes user understand the problem-solving process easier than other artificial intelligence method, and find solution within short time through case retrieval algorithm.

  • Dynamic and fragmented characteristics are two of the most significant factors that distinguish the construction industry from other industries. Previous forecasting techniques have failed to solve the problems derived from the above characteristics, and do not provide considerable support This paper deals with providing a more precise forecasting by applying Case-based Reasoning (CBR). The newly developed model in this study enables project managers to forecast monthly expenditures with less time and effort by retrieving and referring only projects of a similar nature, while filtering out irrelevant cases included in database. For the purpose of accurate forecasting, the choice of the numbers of referring projects was investigated. It is concluded that selecting similar projects at $5{\~}6{\%}$ out of the whole database will produce a more precise forecasting. The new forecasting model, which suggests the predicted values based on previous projects, is more than just a forecasting methodology; it provides a bridge that enables current data collection techniques to be used within the context of the accumulated information. This will eventually help all the participants in the construction industry to build up the knowledge derived from invaluable experience.

  • The ATM network provides ATM CES(Circuit Emulation Services) with AAL1 for CBR(constant bit rate) services such as telephone speech. In this study, quality assessment of telephone speech with CES over ATM was performed and discussed. For this, interoperability between ATM network and structured/unstructured DS1 link was modeled for simulation. And for qualiy assessment of telephone speech, SNR and MOS were used as an objective and a subjective measure, respectively. Experimental results have shown that MOS score 4 as well as SNR 30dB could be obtained at CLR of $10^{-3}$ or below for speech signal.
