Improvement of Optical and Electrical Properties of AZO Thin Films by Controlling Fluorine Concentration (F 농도 조절을 통한 AZO 박막의 광학적 전기적 특성 향상)

  • Zinc oxide (ZnO) based transparent conducting oxides (TCO) thin films, are used in many applications such as solar cells, flat panel displays, and LEDs due to their wide bandgap nature and excellent electrical properties. In the present work, fluorine and aluminium-doped ZnO targets are prepared and thin films are deposited on soda-lime glass substrate using a RF magnetron sputtering unit. The aluminium concentration is fixed at 2 wt%, and the fluorine concentration is adjusted between 0 to 2.0 wt% with five different concentrations, namely, Al2ZnO98(AZO), F0.5AZO97.5(FAZO1), F1AZO97(FAZO2), F1.5AZO96.5(FAZO3), and F2AZO96(FAZO4). Thin films are deposited with an RF power of 40 W and working pressure of 5 m Torr at 270 ℃. The morphological analysis performed for the thin film reveals that surface roughness decreases in FAZO1 and FAZO2 samples when doped with a small amount of fluorine. Further, optical and electrical properties measured for FAZO1 sample show average optical transmissions of over 89 % in the visible region and 82.5 % in the infrared region, followed by low resistivity and sheet resistance of 3.59 × 10-4 Ωcm and 5.52 Ω/sq, respectively. In future, these thin films with excellent optoelectronic properties can be used for thin-film solar cell and other optoelectronics applications.

Effects of Organic Passivation Films on Properties of Polymer Solar Cells with P3HT:PC61BM Active Layers (유기 패시베이션 박막이 P3HT:PC61BM 활성층을 갖는 고분자 태양전지의 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • It is required to improve the efficiency and the reliability of the polymer solar cells (PSCs) as the energy saving optical device for the future application of the smart farm facilities. In this study, we fabricated the bulk hetero junction PSCs with organic passivation film layer for the reliability improvement of the devices. The effects of the passivation layer on the electrical properties of the PSCs were studied. The materials of passivation layer are composed of poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) and ammonium dichromate, and the passivation films were fabricated by the spin coating method on the P3HT:$PC_{61}BM$/LiF/Al substrate. The prepared structure of the device is the glass/ITO/PEDOT:PSS/P3HT:$PC_{61}BM$/LiF/Al/passivation layer. The performances of the PSCs with the organic passivation film showed better electrical properties compared with the PSCs without passivation layers. The power conversion efficiency (PCE) values of passivated PSCs decreased from 3.0 to 1.3% after air exposure for 140 hrs. In contrast, the PCE values for the devices without passivation decreased sharply from 3.5 to 0.1% under the same exposure condition.

Investigation of a New Red-Emitting, Eu3+-Activated MgAl2O4 Phosphor

  • MgAl2O4:Eu3+ red-light emitting powder phosphor was prepared at temperature as low as 500 oC within a few minutes by using the combustion route. The prepared powder was characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry. The luminescence of Eu3+-activated MgAl2O4 shows a strong red emission dominant peak around 611 nm, which can be attributed to the 5D0-7F2 transition of Eu3+ ions from the synthesized phosphor particles under excitation (394 nm). Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements at the X-band showed that no signal could be attributed to Eu2+ ions in MgAl2O4.

  • Gas filtration at high temperature from industrial processes offers various advantages such as increasing process efficiency, improving heat recovery and materials resource recovery, etc. At the same time, it is an advanced environment protection technology. This paper describes a newly developed metallic filter element. The manufacturing process of sintered $Fe_3Al$ metallic powder and the mechanical and filtration characteristics of this filter element were investigated. In this work, the phase constituent changes of the $Fe_3Al$ powder during sintering were studied. The newly developed filter elements were found to have excellent corrosion resistance, good thermal resistance, high strength and high filtration efficiency.

Stability of Water-in-Oil Emulsion by Gelation;Application of Sun-Block Cream containing Titanium Dioxide($TiO_{2}$) (겔화에 의한 Water-in-Oil에멀젼의 안정성;이산화티타늄($TiO_{2}$)이 함유된 Sun-block Cream의 응용)

  • Cosmetic industries have recently developed sun-block products, which are composed of W/O or O/W emulsion system. It was very difficult for waterproofing product to show the stability in W/O emulsion with $TiO_{2}$. To enhance the stability of W/O emulsion, it needs to be combined with the water and oil soluble components as the gelling agents. The emulsifiers used in W/O were 3.0% of cetyl dimethicone copolyol, 2.0% of sorbitan sesquioleate as the basic emulsifiers, and 0.6% of quaternium-18 bentonite and 1.5% of dextrin palmitate as stabilizer were used. The content of titanium dioxide was optimized up to 8.0%. Titanium dioxide was used as the UV scattering powder coated with $Al_{2}O_{3}$(UV-sperse T40/TN). The sunscreen cream prepared with W/O emulsion system by using QB and DP showed higher stability than that of W/O emulsion system by using each QB and DP. W/O emulsion from Formula 3 for passing one year was very durable more than F1 and F2. Within W/O emulsion by observing F1, F2 and F3 for one year, F3 was more excellent than F2 and F3 when they were observed at RT, $4^{\circ}C$, $40^{\circ}C$, because F3 used the mixed QB and DP in W/O emulsion. The zeta potential for F1, F2, and F3 after one year were 21, 30 and 43, respectively. From these result F3 was found best stable emulsion. The in-vitro SPF value for F3 was 35 for the initial product at room temperature and also, the in-vitro SPF values of F3 was 32 for after one year. Finally, the mean in-vivo SPF value of 10 volunteers for F3 was 27.3 by the Korea cosmetic association made the rules of SPF.

View Angle Emission Pattern in ITO-TPD-$Alq_3$-LiF-Al Organic Light-Emitting Diodes

  • This report makes an important correction to estimating angular dependent emission pattern of Organic Light-Emitting Diodes (OLEDs). Today, experiments on measuring angular light intensity of OLEDs are conducted without considering the difference between the view angle identified by photodiode and the actual angle being measured. ITO-TPD-$Alq_3$-LiF-Al Organic Light-Emitting Diode was used to find out the degree of the error. In this case, the difference in average was about $1^*$, which is highly significant. Since the difference varies from case to case, the need for adjustment must be evaluated for each case.

Synthesis and Electroluminescent Properties of Diphenyl Benzeneamine Derivatives as Dopant Material

  • We report the photo-(PL) and electroluminescence (EL) properties of new conjugated compounds based on diphenyl benzeneamine moiety, 4,4'-(1,4-phenylenedi-(1E)-2,1-ethenediyl]bis(N,N-diphenyl-benzenamine](PEDB) and 4,4'-([1,1 -biphenyl]-4,4'-diyldi-2,1-ethenediyl)bis[N,N-diphenyl-benzenamine)(BPEDB), as emitting materials and dopant materials. The ITO/m-MTDATA/NPB/DPVBi + BPEDB(1%) /Alq3/LiF/Al device shows blue EL spectrum at 458nm and high efficiency(5.3 cd/A). PEDB as dopant shows also blue EL spectrum around ${\lambda}$ max=463nm and 4.1 cd/A high efficiency in ITO/m-MTDATA/NPB/DPVBi + PEDB(1%)/Alq3/LiF/Al device.

Synthesis and After-Glow Characteristics of Eu Activated Sr-Al-O Long Phosphorescent Phosphor (Eu 부활형 Sr-Al-O 계 장잔광 형광체의 합성과 잔광특성)

  • The synthesis of $SrAI_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor and its properties of both photoluminescence and long-phosphorescent were investigated as a function of sintering condition. Single phase of $SrAl_2O_4$ was obtained by sintering the mixtures of $SrCO_3$, $Eu_2O_3$, $AI_2O_34 and 3wt% $B_2O_3$ powders over 100$0^{\circ}C$ in Ar/H2 atmosphere. The optimum sintering condition for the long-phosphorescent phosphor of $SrAI_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$ was found at 130$0^{\circ}C$ for 3hours. The PL emission spectrum of $SrAI_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$ shows a maximum peak intensity at 520nm(2.384eV) with a broad emission extending from 450 to 650nm which resulted from the $4f^65d^1$$\rightarrow$$4f^7$ transition of $Eu^{+2}$ under 360nm exitation. Monitored at 520nm. the excita¬tion spectrum of $SrAI_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$ exhibits a maximum peak intensity at 360nm (3.44eV) with a broad absorption band extending from 250 to 480nm.

Magnetic Properties of Polycrystalline ${BaFe_{12}{O_{19}$ Films Grown by a Pulsed Laser Ablation Technique

  • Highly oriented ${BaFe_{12}{O_{19}$ films were obtained by a KrF excimer laser ablation technique using (110)$(012){Al_2}{O_3}$(001)$(012){Al_2}{O_3}$ and $(012){Al_2}{O_3}$ substrates, respectively.The degree of alignment of more than 95% were achieved for (100) on (110)$(012){Al_2}{O_3}$ and (001)$(001){Al_2}{O_3}$ planes, and heteroepitaxial films of (114) on (012)$(012){Al_2}{O_3}$were possible to be grown with a lasing energy density of 6.67 J/$cm^2$ at an oxygen partial pressure ${PO_2}$ of 900 mTorr. The best magnetic properties were obtained from the as-deposited films at the substrate temperature of $700^{\circ}C$, and post annealing treatment was not needed to enhance the magnetic properties. Experimentally saturated magnetization ($4_pi M_S$) of 3600~3800 Gauss and coercivities $(H_c)$ of 3050~3080 Oe, which approach 85% of those of Ba-ferrite bulk composed of single domain particles, were obtained in this study.

Luminescent Characteristics and Synthesis of Y3Al5O12:Eu3+ Red Phosphors (Y3Al5O12:Eu3+ 적색 형광체의 제조와 발광특성)

  • In this study, Y3Al5O12:Eu3+ red phosphors were synthesized at different temperatures using a solid state reaction method. The crystal structures, surface and optical properties of the Y3Al5O12:Eu3+ red phosphors were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), and photoluminescence (PL) analyses. From XRD results, the crystal structure of the Y3Al5O12:Eu3+ red phosphors was determined to be cubic. The maximum emission spectra were observed for the Y3Al5O12:Eu3+ red phosphor prepared by annealing for 4h at 1,700 ℃. The 565~590 nm photoluminescent spectra of the Y3Al5O12:Eu3+ red phosphors is associated with the 5D07F2 magnetic dipole transition of the Eu3+ ions. The intensity of the photoluminescent spectra in the red phosphors is more dominant for the magnetic dipole transition than the electric dipole transition with increasing annealing temperature. The International Commission on Illumination (CIE) coordinates of Y3Al5O12:Eu3+ red phosphors prepared by 1,700 ℃ annealing temperature are X = 0.5994, Y = 0.3647.
