Aromatic hydrocarbons can be utilized as carbon and energy sources by some microorganisms at lower concentrations. However, they can also act as stresses to these organisms at higher concentrations. Pseudomonas sp. DJ-12 is capable of degrading 0.5 mM concentration of benzoate and 4-chlorobenzoate (4CBA). In this study, the exposure of Pseudomonas sp. DJ-12 to the pollutant stresses of benzoate and 4CBA at various concentrations was comparatively studied for its cellular responses, including survival tolerance, degradability of the aromatics, and morphological changes. Pseudomonas sp. DJ-12 utilized 0.5 to 1.0mM benzoate and 4CBA as carbon and energy sources for growth. However, the organism could not degrade the aromatics at concentrations of 3 mM or higher, resulting in reduced cell viability due to the destruction of the cell envelopes. Pseudomonas sp. DJ-12 cells produced stress-shock proteins such as DnaK and GroEL when treated with benzoate and 4CBA at concentrations of 0.5mM, or higher as sublethal dosage; Yet, there were differing responses between the cells treated with either benzoate or 4CBA. 4CBA affected the degradability of the cells more critically than benzoate. The DnaK and GroEL stress-shock proteins were produced either by 1mM benzoate with 5 min treatment or by higher concentrations after 10min. The proteins were also induced by 0.5mM 4CBA, however, it needed at least 20min treatment or longer. These results indicate that the chlorination of benzoate increased the recalcitrance of the pollutant aromatics and changed the conditions to lower concentrations and longer treatment times for the production of stress-shock proteins. of stress-shock proteins produced by the aromatics at sublethal concentrations functioned interactively between the aromatics for survival tolerance to lethal concentrations.
Microcystis aeruginosa causes harmful algal blooms in the Nakdong River of Korea. We studied the effect of different concentrations and ratios of ammonium ($NH_4{^+}$), nitrate ($NO_3{^-}$), and phosphate ($PO{_4}^{3-}$) on growth of this species in BG-11 medium: each nutrient alone, $NO_3{^-}:NH_4{^+}$ ratio, the N : P ratio with fixed total N (TN), and the N : P ratio with fixed total P (TP). The single nutrient experiments indicated that M. aeruginosa had the highest growth rate at $NH_4{^+}$ and $NO_3{^-}$ concentrations of $500{\mu}M$, and at a $PO{_4}^{3-}$ concentration of $5{\mu}M$. The $NO_3{^-}:NH_4{^+}$ ratio experiments showed that M. aeruginosa had the highest growth rate at a ratio of 1 : 1 when TN was $100{\mu}M$ and $250{\mu}M$, and the lowest growth rate at a ratio of 1 : 1 when the TN was $500{\mu}M$. The N : P ratio with fixed TN experiments indicated that M. aeruginosa had the highest growth rates at 50 : 1, 20 : 1, and 100 : 1 ratios when the TN was 100, 250, and $500{\mu}M$, respectively. In contrast, the N : P ratio with fixed TP experiments showed that M. aeruginosa had the highest growth rates at 200 : 1 ratio at all tested TP concentrations. In conclusion, our results imply that the $NO_3{^-}:NH_4{^+}$ ratio and the $PO{_4}^{3-}$ concentration affect the early stage of growth of M. aeruginosa. In particular, our results suggest that the maximum growth of M. aeruginosa is not simply affected by the $NO_3{^-}:NH_4{^+}$ ratio and the N : P ratio, but is determined by the TN concentration if a certain minimum $PO{_4}^{3-}$ concentration is present.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the Effect of Electro acupuncture at Kugmun $(P_4)$ and Naegwan $(P_6)$ on EKG of hypertension patients. Methods Subjects were ten patients who showed abnormal findings on EKG. They were divided into two Groups, Experiment Group and Control Group. It showed significant change compared with Control Group that received electro acupuncture at non acupoint. In fact Kugmun $(P_4)$ and Naegwan $(P_6)$ is able to cure chest pain, hypertension, chest discomfort, palpitation, insomnia, headache, and so on. It proved that it has ability of controling heart function. Conclusions : In conclusion, electro acupuncture at Kugmun $(P_4)$ and Naegwan $(P_6)$ changed EKG findings and Pulse. Especially electro acupuncture at Kugmun $(P_4)$ and Naegwan $(P_6)$ decreased the pulse for tachycardia and increased the pulse for bradycardia. It is thought that it makes to consist vital homeostasis.
Microstructueral development and electrical properties in ZnO-Bi2O3-ZnAl2O4 system were investigated with ZnAl2O4 content(0.1~1.0 mol%). The shrinakge of specimens started around $700^{\circ}C$ and finished at 110$0^{\circ}C$, reaching a maximum shrinkage rate at 80$0^{\circ}C$. The shrinkage rate is strongly related to the fromation of a Bi-rich liquid. The increase of the ZnAl2O4 content inhibited the grain growth of ZnO. Most of ZnAl2O4 particles located at the grain boundaries were about 2~3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. ZnO grain size changed little up to 110$0^{\circ}C$, but increased markedly above 115$0^{\circ}C$, especially at lower ZnAl2O4 content. Drastic decreasing in breakdown voltage(Vb) with increasing temperature is expected to be dependent on the ZnO grain size and the distribution of the largest grains between the electrode. The nonlinear I-V characteristic was significantly influenced by the ZnAl2O4 content, which exhibited a maximum value at about 15${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of ZnO grain size.

Native Kerean lawngrass (Zeysia japonica steud.) and Manilagrass ( Zeysia matrella Merr.) are frequently used as sport turf and lawn in Kerea and ether Asian countries because of its excellent summer qualities and superior winter-hardiness compared to ether warm-season turfgrass . The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of the plant growth retardants ( PGR ) en the inhibition (d the growth of the two Kerean native turfgrasses. Kerean lawngrass and Manilagrass were treated with [2 RS , 3 RS] -1- [4- chlorophenyl ] -4, 4-dimethyl -2- [1 H -1, 2, 4- tiazol -1- y] pentan -3- ol ( PP -333) at 93 and 930 gha -j ; 5-[4- chlorphenyl ]-3, 4, 5, 9, 10- peiitaaza - tetracyclo [5, 4, 1, 0 2 6 . o ~'~I -3, 9- diene ( BAS -106) at 16 and 160 gha ; [ E I-] - cyclohexyl -4, 4- dimethyl -2- [1, 2, 4- triazol -1- yl ]-1-pentene - 3- ol ( NTN -821) at 56 and 560 gha ', and 4- chloro -2- [$\alpha$- hydrozybenzy I isonicotin anilide ( CGR -811) at 92 gha in pot study . All PGR treatments were effective in reducing the plant height, with the exception of BAS -106 at 16 gha for Korean lawngrass ; however , all increased quality to some degree , with the exception of PP -333 at 93 gha . The low PGR rates significantly increased Korean lawngrass height during late jtily aitd mid-August . On the other hand , BAS -106 significantly increased Manilagrass height {rom 24 Septeml)er onwards . All PGR treatments haol higher turfgrass quality than untreatments , and also the high rates of PGIt treatments were more effective in increasing quality than the low rates observed on 8 October . Meanwhile , Manilagrass quality was increased to some extent than Korean lawegrass . PP - 333 was significantly effective in reducing clipping yield and the same results were found with the application of NTN -821 at 560 gha -l for both Korean lawngrass and Manilagrass , BAS -106 at 160 gha for Korean lawegrass , and CGR -811 at 92 gha for Manilagrass . The high PGR rates had higher turfgrass shoot weight observed on 8 October than the low rates , and there were little increases obtained with the low rates of PP -333 for Korean lawngrass and BAS - 1 06 for Manilagrass . Effeets on stolon growth varied between growth retardants , and between retardant treatments ; the high rates of PGR as well as the low rate of NTN -821 elongated stolon of Korean lawngrass and manoilagrass . However , PP -333 at 93 gha and BAS -106 at 16 gha - shortened stolons of Korean lawugrass , resulting in inhibition or little difference of stolon dry weight . NTN -821 at 560 gha and CGR -811 had no positive effect on the stolon length of Manilagrass . 101) -333 and the low rate of BAS -106 and NTN -821 decreased root weight of Korean lawng - rass All PGR rates had negative effect on the root weight of Manilagrass with the exception of BAS -106 CR -811 and the high rate of NTN -821 which made no difference in root weight between retarolant treatments and the control .
The characteristics of physico-chemical factors and the species compositions of phytoplankton were investigated to analyze the marine ecosystem at the depths during summer in the coast of Dokdo (stations DOK1$\sim$3). The mean values of conductivity (32 mS cm$^{-1}$), total dissolved solids (45 mg L$^{-1}$), salinity (35.5 psu), total suspended solids (39 mg L$^{-1}$) were the highest in DOK1. The biomass (chl-${\alpha}$) of phytoplankton was the highest in the surface of station DOK1 (3.1 ${\mu}g$ L$^{-1}$). By means of physico-chemical factors (salinity, turbidity, chl-${\alpha}$, T-N, T-P and Si), the coast of Dokdo was estimated to be more polluted than the previous results in 2000. A total of 72 species in Dokdo were composed of 54 species (76.1%) for Bacillariophyceae and 13 species (18.3%) for Dinophyceae, 3 species (4.2%) for Chrysophyceae and 1 species (1.4%) for Cyanophyceae. The standing crops of phytoplankton were the highest (8.5 $\times$ 10$^4$ cells L$^{-1}$) at 20 m of station DOK1, while they were the lowest (1.65 $\times$ 10$^4$ cells L$^{-1}$) at 30 m of station 1. The dominance index was maximum (0.73) at 10 m of station DOK1 and was minimum (0.4) at 30 m of station 1. The diversity index was the highest (2.92) in the surface of station 2, while it was the lowest at 20 m (1.58). The dominant species of phytoplankton were Chaetoceros affinis (3.3 $\times$ 10$^4$ cells L$^{-1}$) at 20 m, Climacosphenia moniligera (2.8 $\times$ 10$^4$ cells L$^{-1}$) at 40 m and Melosira juergensii (1.7 $\times$ 10$^4$ cells L$^{-1}$) at 10 m of station DOK1. At the surface of station DOK2, the dominant species were Bacillaria paxillifer and Richelia intracellularis (1.4 $\times$ 10$^4$ cells L$^{-1}$, respectively), while it was Paralia sulcata (1.6 $\times$ 10$^4$ cells L$^{-1}$) at the surface of station DOK3. The station DOKl, where affected by upwelling, turbulence and convection due to the East Korean Warm Current, was the most eutrophicated water body in three stations. The monitoring of marine ecosystem in the coast of Dokdo should be continued to show the alternatives for water and species conservation and to purify the eutrophicated water body due to artificial pollutants as well as physico-chemical factors by the global warming, the climatic change, CO$_2$ etc.

Poly (sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSS) is ionomer based on polystyrene that is electrical conductivity and isoviscosity. LiFePO4 has been a promising electrode material however its poor conductivity limits practical application. To enhance the electronic conductivity of LiFePO4, in this study we prepared LiFePO4- PSS composite by the hydrothermal method. LiFePO4 was heated at $170^{\circ}C$ for 12h and then different wt% PSS (0%, 2.91%, 4.75%, 7.36%, 10%) are added to LiFePO4 and milled at 300rpm for 10h. And then the obtained powders were subsequently heated at $500^{\circ}C$ for 1h under argon flow. The cathode electrode were made from mixtures of LiFePO4-PSS: SP-270- PVDF in a weighting ratio 75%: 25%:5%. The electrochemical properties of LiFePO4- PSS/Li batteries were analyzed by cyclic voltammetry and charge/discharge tests. LiFePO4-C/Li battery with 4.75 wt% PSS displays discharge capacity of 128 mAh g-1 at room temperature that is considerably higher than pure LiFePO4/Li battery ( 113.48 mAhg-1).
Objective : This study examines whether functional motion is present at one or more years after Bioflex System placement. BioFlex System is a flexible rod system which has been used to preserve motion at the area of implantation. There has not been a scientific study showing how much motion is preserved after implantation. Methods : A total of 12 consecutive patients underwent posterior dynamic stabilization using the BioFlex System. Six patients were treated using a L3-4-5 construct and other six patients using a L4-5-S1 construct. Follow-up ranged from 12 to 33 months and standing neutral lateral, extension, flexion and posteroanterior (PA) radiographs were obtained at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months and at more than 12 months postoperatively. Range of motion (ROM), whole lumbar lordosis, and ROMs of motion segments from L2 to S1 were determined. Results : Patients with a L3-4-5 construct demonstrated a decrease in mean ROM for whole lumbar decreased from 40.08 to 30.77. Mean ROM for L3-4 (6.12 to 2.20) and L4-5 (6.55 to 1.67) also decreased after one year. Patients with a L4-5-S1 construct demonstrated L4-5 (8.75 to 2.70) and L5-S1 (9.97 to 3.25) decrease of mean ROM at one year postoperatively. Lumbar lordosis was preservep at both L3-4-5 and L4-5-S1 constructs. Clinical results showed significant improvements in both study groups. Conclusion : The present study provides preliminary information regarding the BioFlex motion preservation system. We conclude that the BioFlex System preserves functional motion to some degree at instrumented levels. However, although total lumbar lordosis was preserved, ROMs at implantation segments were lower than preoperative values.

Precipitation samples were collected at Anmyeon (1997 - 2004), Uljin, and Gosan (1998 ~ 2004), the background area of the Korean Peninsula. These samples were analyzed for the concentration of 9 major ionic components ($F^{-}$,$Cl^{-}$, $NO_{3}^{-}$, $SO_{4}^{2-}$, $Na^{+}$, $NH_{4}^{+}$, $K^{+}$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$) with including a pH and an electric conductivity. Data quality for these samples was verified by ion balance and conductivity balance which are based on GAW manual for precipitation chemistry and the number of valid data at Anmyeon, Uljin, and Gosan is 249, 173, and 188, respectively. During the study period, the precipitation-weighted average pH at Anmyeon, Uljin, and Gosan was found to be 4.81, 4.87 and 4.89, respectively and each annual average pH was showed below pH 5.6 for every site. From the frequency survey on the precipitation acidity, the occurrence rate of acid rain below pH 5.6 is greater than $80\%$ for every site. Particularly, the highest occurrence rate for strong acid rain below pH 4.5 was found at Anmyeon, $32.1\%$, compared with other sites ($10.4\%$ at Uljin, $15.4\%$ at Gosan). That's because acidifying species (nss-$SO_{4}^{2-}$, $NO_{3}^{-}$) are remarkably high concentration at Anmyeon.
