  • The multicast routing problem lies in the composition of a multicast routing tree including a source node and multiple destinations. There is a trade-off relationship between cost and delay, and the multicast routing problem of optimizing these two conditions at the same time is a difficult problem to solve and it belongs to a multi-objective optimization problem (MOOP). A multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) is efficient to solve MOOP. A micro-genetic algorithm(${\mu}GA$) is a genetic algorithm with a very small population and a reinitialization process, and it is faster than a simple genetic algorithm (SGA). We propose a multi-objective micro-genetic algorithm (MO${\mu}GA$) that combines a MOGA and a ${\mu}GA$ to find optimal solutions (Pareto optimal solutions) of multicast routing problems. Computational results of a MO${\mu}GA$ show fast convergence and give better solutions for the same amount of computation than a MOGA.

  • A* algorithm is a well known pathfinding algorithm. However, there may be a limit to use A* algorithm in real-time in a map where many interactions occur between objects or many obstacles exist. Therefore, it may be necessary to find a naturally looking path quickly instead of finding a shortest path in games. In this paper, we propose a new heuristic function to exploit path information in a map. We also show that the pathfinding algorithm based on the proposed heuristic function can find a good path much faster than A* algorithm on several grid maps.

  • The scope of the matrix application is so broad that it can not be limited. A typical matrix application area in computer science is image processing. Particularly, radar scanning equipment implemented on a small embedded system requires real-time matrix transposition for image processing, and since its memory size is small, a general matrix transposition algorithm can not be applied. In this case, matrix transposition must be done in disk space, such as flash disk, using a limited memory buffer. In this paper, we analyze and improve a recently published flash disk-based matrix transposition algorithm named as asymmetric sub-matrix transposition algorithm. The performance analysis shows that the asymmetric sub-matrix transposition algorithm has lower performance than the conventional sub-matrix transposition algorithm, but the improved asymmetric sub-matrix transposition algorithm is superior to the sub-matrix transposition algorithm in 13 of the 16 experimental data.

  • This paper proposes a combinatorial method to compute the global and local solutions of optimization problem. The present hybrid algorithm is the synthesis of a genetic algorithm and a local concentrate search algorithm (simplex method). The hybrid algorithm is not only faster than the standard genetic algorithm, but also gives a more accurate solution. In addition, this algorithm can find both the global and local optimum solutions. An optimization result is presented to demonstrate that the proposed approach successfully focuses on the advantages of global and local searches. Three numerical examples are also presented in this paper to compare with conventional methods.

  • Note that k-anonymity algorithm has been widely discussed in the area of privacy protection. In this paper, a new search algorithm to achieve k-anonymity for database application is introduced. A lattice is introduced to form a solution space for a k-anonymity problem and then a hybrid search method composed of tabu search and genetic algorithm is proposed. In this algorithm, the tabu search plays the role of mutation in the genetic algorithm. The hybrid method with independent tabu search and genetic algorithm is compared, and the hybrid approach performs the best in average case.

  • In this paper, we propose a new 3-D deinterlacing algorithm based on wide sparse vector correlations and a vertical edge based motion detection algorithm. which is an extension of the deinterlacing algorithm proposed in [10. llJ by the authors. The prooised algorithm is developed mainly for the format conversion problem encountered in current HDTV system, but can also be aplicable to the double scan conversion problesm frequently encountered in ths NTSC systems. By exploiting the edge oriented spatial interpolation based on the wide vector correlations, visually annoying artifiacts caused by interlacing such as a serrate line. line crawling, a line flicker, and a large area flicker can be remarkably reduced since the use of the wide vectors increases the range of the edge orientations that can be detected, and by exploiting sparse vectors correlations the HjW complexity for realizing the algorithm in applications cam be significantly simplified. Simulations are provided indicating thet the proposed algorithm results in a high performance comparable to the performance of the deinterlacing algorithm. based on the wide vector correlations.

  • In this paper, we propose a new algorithm to improve the accuracy of indoor positioning techniques using Wi-Fi access points as beacon nodes. The proposed algorithm is based on the Weighted Centroid algorithm, a popular method widely used for indoor positioning, however, it improves some disadvantages of the Weighted Centroid method and also for other kinds of indoor positioning methods, by using the received signal strength correction method and genetic algorithm to prevent the signal strength fluctuation phenomenon, which is caused by the complex propagation environment. To validate the performance of the proposed algorithm, we conducted experiments in a complex indoor environment, and collect a list of Wi-Fi signal strength data from several access points around the standing user location. By utilizing this kind of algorithm, we can obtain a high accuracy positioning system, which can be used in any building environment with an available Wi-Fi access point setup as a beacon node.

  • Performance index is a measure of telecommunications network integrating reliability and capacity simultaneously. This paper suggests a computerized algorithm evaluating a performance index for telecommunications network and compares this computerized algorithm with the algorithm[1] by experimenting on several benchmarks. A computerized algorithm proposed by this paper is superior to the algorithm[1] with respect to the computation time for most of the benchmarks.

  • This paper presents the development of a tracking algorithm for shipborad satellite antenna systems which can enhance the tracking performance. In order to overcome some drawbacks of the conventional step tracking algorithm a new tracking algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm searches for the best tracking angles using gradient-based formulae and signal intensities measured according to a search pattern. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated through simulation using real data.

  • In this paper, we present a strongly convergent parallel projection algorithm by introducing some parameter sequences for convex feasibility problem. To prove the strong convergence in a simple way, we transmit the parallel algorithm in the original space to an alternating one in a newly constructed product space. Thus, the strong convergence of the parallel projection algorithm is derived with the help of the alternating one under some parametric controlling conditions.
