In this study, the reactivity of a $SnO_2-ZrO_2$(Sn/Zr = 2/1) catalyst for $SO_2$ reduction by CO was investigated in order to optimize the various reaction conditions such as temperature, gas hourly space velocity (GHSV), and [CO]/[$SO_2$] molar ratio. The reaction temperature in the range of $300{\sim}550^{\circ}C$, space velocity in the range of $5000{\sim}30000cm^3/[g_{-cat}{\cdot}h]$ and [CO]/[$SO_2$] molar ratio in the range of 1.0~4.0 were employed. The optimum temperature, GHSV, and [CO]/[$SO_2$] molar ratio were determined to be $325^{\circ}C$, $10000cm^3/[g_{-cat}{\cdot}h]$, and 2.0, respectively; under these conditions, $SO_2$ conversion was over 99% and sulfur selectivity was over 95%. In addition, the effect of $H_2O$ content on the $SO_2$ reduction by CO was also investigated. As the $H_2O$ content increased from 2 vol% up to 6 vol%, the reactivity and sulfur selectivity decreased. In case of 2 vol% $H_2O$ content, the reaction temperature and [CO]/[$SO_2$] molar ratio were varied in the range of $300{\sim}400^{\circ}C$ and 1.0~3.0. The optimum temperature and [CO]/[$SO_2$] molar ratio were $340^{\circ}C$ and 2.0, respectively under which $SO_2$ conversion and sulfur selectivity were about 90% and 87%, respectively.
We employed an unprecedented technique to synthesize porous $WO_3@SnO_2$ nanofibers exhibiting core-shell and fiber-in-tube configurations. Firstly, 2-methylimidazole was uniformly incorporated in as-spun nanofibers containing ammonium metatungstate hydrate and the sacrificial polymer (polyacrylonitrile). Secondly, the 2-methylimidazole on the surfaces of nanofibers was complexed with tin(II) chloride ($SnCl_2$) via simple impregnation of the as-spun nanofibers in ethanol containing tin(II) chloride dihydrate ($SnCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$). The presence of vacant p-orbitals in tin (Sn) and the nucleophilic nitrogen on the imidazole ring allowed for the reaction between $SnCl_2$ and 2-methylimidazole, forming adducts on the surfaces of the as-spun nanofibers. The calcination of these nanofibers resulted in porous $WO_3@SnO_2$ nanofibers with a higher surface area ($55.3m^2{\cdot}g^{-1}$) and a better response to 1-5 ppm of acetone than pristine $SnO_2$ NFs synthesized using a similar method. An improved response to acetone was achieved upon functionalization of the $WO_3@SnO_2$ nanofibers with catalytic palladium nanoparticles. This work demonstrates the potential application of $WO_3@SnO_2$ nanofibers as sensing layers for chemiresistive sensory devices for the detection of acetone in exhaled breath.
Tin (IV) dioxide ($SnO_2$) has attracted much attention due to its potential scientific significance and technological applications. $SnO_2$ nanoparticles were prepared under low temperature and pressure conditions via precipitation from a 0.1 M $SnCl_4{\cdot}5H_2O$ solution by slowly adding $NH_4OH$ while rapidly stirring the solution. $SnO_2$ nanoparticles were obtained from the reaction in the temperature range from 130 to $250^{\circ}C$ during 6 h. The microstructure and phase of the synthesized tin oxide particles were studied using XRD and TEM analyses. The average crystalline sizes of the synthesized $SnO_2$ particles were from 5 to 20 nm and they had a narrow distribution. The average crystalline size of the synthesized particles increased as the reaction temperature increased. The crystalline size of the synthesized tin oxide particles decreased with increases in the pH value. The X-ray analysis showed that the synthesized particles were crystalline, and the SAED patterns also indicate that the synthesized $SnO_2$ nanoparticles were crystalline. Furthermore, the morphology of the synthesized $SnO_2$ nanoparticles was as a function of the reaction temperature. The effects of the synthesis parameters, such as the pH condition and reaction temperature, are also discussed.
The alternate plating method was suggested by a tin-cobalt alloy plating process which has excellent mechanical characteristics and also favorable to environment. Tin-cobalt alloy plating has many advantages such as nontoxicity, variable color-tone, and no post-treatment process. In this study, the plating conditions such as temperature, pH, current density, plating time, and amount of additive (glycine) were determined in the tin-cobalt alloy plating process through Hull-cell test and surface analysis. As the result of Hull-cell analysis, brightness became superior as the amount of glycine increased. It was found that the optimum alloy ratio was 0.03 M of $SnCl_{2}{\cdot}2H_{2}O$ and 0.05 M of $CoSO_{4}{\cdot}7H_{2}O$ at $50^{\circ}C$, pH 8.5, and $0.5A/dm^2$. The optimum amount of additive was 15 g/L of glycine and 0.1 g/L of organic acid. Then, the solution including glycine was recommended as an optimum plating solution for a chromium plating process.
The $SO_2$ reduction using CO and $H_2$ over Sn-Zr based catalysts was performed in this study. Sn-Zr based catalysts with Sn/Zr molar ratio (0/1, 1/4, 1/1, 2/1, 3/1, 1/0) were prepared by the precipitation and co-precipitation method. The effect of the temperature on the reaction characteristics of the $SO_2$ reduction with a reducing agent such as $H_2$ and CO was investigated under the conditions of space velocity of $10,000ml/g_{-cat.}h$, $([CO(or\;H_2)]/[SO_2])$ of 2.0. As a result, the activity of Sn-Zr based catalysts were higher than $SnO_2$ and $ZrO_2$. The reactivity for the $SO_2$ reduction with CO was higher than that with $H_2$, and sulfur yield in the $SO_2$ reduction by $H_2$ was higher than that by CO. The reactivity for the $SO_2$ reduction with $H_2$ was increased with the reaction temperature regardless of Sn-Zr based catalyst with a Sn/Zr molar ratio. $SnO_2-ZrO_2$ (Sn/Zr=1/4) had highest activity at $550^{\circ}C$, in the $SO_2$ reduction with $H_2$ and $SO_2$ conversion of 94.4% and sulfur yield of 66.4% were obtained at $550^{\circ}C$. On the other hand, in the $SO_2$ reduction by CO, the reactivity was decreased with the increase over $325^{\circ}C$. At the optimal temperature of $325^{\circ}C$, $SO_2$ conversion and sulfur yield were about 100% and 99.5%, respectively, in the $SO_2$ reduction over $SnO_2-ZrO_2$ (Sn/Zr=3/1). Also, the $SO_2$ reduction using syngas with $CO/H_2$ ratio over $SnO_2-ZrO_2$ (Sn/Zr=2/1) was performed in order to investigate the application possibility of the simulated coal gas as the reductant in DSRP. As a result, the reactivity of the $SO_2$ reduction using syngas with $CO/H_2$ ratio was increased with increasing the CO content of syngas. Therefore, it could be known that DSRP using the simulated coal gas over Sn-Zr based catalyst is possible to be realized in IGCC system

The scope of homogeneous Lewis acid-catalyzed benzo[N,N]-heterocyclic condensation was expanded to include the use of various metal salts not reported in the literature and $SnCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$ was finally selected. Among various solid supports activated with $SnCl_2$, heterogeneous $SnCl_2/SiO_2$ proved to be the most effective and significantly higher conversions were achieved compared to $SnCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$ itself. The results of TG-DTA and BET indicated that dispersed $SnCl_2$ coordinates with surface hydroxyl groups of silica leading to formation of stable Lewis acid sites. Low catalyst loading, operational simplicity, practicability and applicability to various substrates render this eco-friendly approach as an interesting alternative to previously applied procedures.

Ultra-fine particles of $SnO_{2}$ was synthersized by the sol-gel powder processing using tin(II) chloride dihydrate$(SnCl_{2}{\cdot}2H_{2}O)$ and ethanol$(C_{2}H_{5}OH)$ as raw materials. Gel powders can be obtained by drying of sol at $120^{\circ}C$ after aging 72hrs and 168hrs. The amount of $SnO_{2}$ phase was increased with temperature because of the evaporation of volatile components, and the creation of $SnO_{2}$ phase was almost done by the heat treatment at $700^{\circ}C/30min$ The grain sizes after firing are about 20-30nm, and it showed the narrow distribution of grain size. The specimens to measure electrical properties were fabricated by the thick film screen printing technique on the alumina substrates. The conductance of $SnO_{2}$ was increased with temperature up to $380^{\circ}C$ by the typical conduction mechanism of semiconducting ceramics. There was a region of constant conductance between about $200^{\circ}C$ and $380^{\circ}C$ due to the increment of electron concentration with temperature and the annihilation of conduction carriers by the absorption and electron trapped-ionization of oxygen on the surface of $SnO_{2}$, It was finally showed the intrinsic behaviors above $450^{\circ}C$. The sensing properties of response time, recovery, and sensitivity of CO were improved with aging time.

The effect of Cu coating on the sensing properties of nano $SnO_2:Cu$ based sensors for the $CH_4$, $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas was studied. This work was focussed on investigating the change of sensitivity of nano $SnO_2:Cu$ based sensors for $CH_4$, $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas by Cu coating. Nano sized $SnO_2$ powders were prepared by solution reduction method using stannous chloride($SnCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$), hydrazine($N_2H_2$) and NaOH and subsequent heat treatment. XRD patterns showed that nano $SnO_2$ powders with rutile structure were grown with (110), (101), (211) dominant peak. The particle size of nano $SnO_2:Cu$ powders at 8 wt% Cu was about 50 nm. $SnO_2$ particles were found to contain many pores, according to SEM analysis. The sensitivity of nano $SnO_2:Cu$ based sensors was measured for 5 ppm $CH_4$ gas and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas at room temperature by comparing the resistance in air with that in target gases. The sensitivity for both $CH_4$ and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gases was improved by Cu coating on the nano $SnO_2$ surface. The response time and recovery time of the $SnO_2:Cu$ gas sensors for the $CH_4$ and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gases were 18~20 seconds, and 13~15 seconds, respectively.

The water-splitting process by the metal oxides using solar heat is one of the hydrogen production method. The hydrogen production process using the metal oxides (NiFe2O4/NiAl2O4,CoFe2O4/CoAl2O4, CoMnNiFerrite, CoMnSnFerrite, CoMnZnFerrite, CoSnZnFerrite) was carried out by two steps. The first step was carried out by the CH4-reduction to increase activation of metal oxides at operation temperature. And then, it was carried out the water-splitting reaction using the water at operation temperature for the second step. Hydrogen was produced in this step. The production rates of H2 were 110, 160, 72, 29, 17, $21m{\ell}/hr{\cdot}g-_{Metal\;Oxide}$ for NiFe2O4/NiAl2O4, CoFe2O4/CoAl2O4, CoMnNiFerrite, CoMnSnFerrite, CoMnZnFerrite, CoSnZnFerrite respectively in the second step. CoFe2O4/CoAl2O4 had higher H2 production rate than the other metal oxides.
