열차폐코팅용 (La1-xGdx)2Zr2O7 산화물의 상형성과 열전도도 (Phase Evolution and Thermal Conductivities of (La1-xGdx)2Zr2O7 Oxides for Thermal Barrier Coatings)

  • With increase in operating temperature of gas turbine for higher efficiency, it is necessary to find new materials of TBC for replacement of YSZ. Among candidate materials for future TBCs, zirconate-based oxides with pyrochlore and fluorite are prevailing ones. In this study, phase structure and thermal conductivities of $(La_{1-x}Gd_x)_2Zr_2O_7$ oxide system are investigated. $(La_{1-x}Gd_x)_2Zr_2O_7$ system are comprised by selecting $La^{3+}/Gd^{3+}$ as A-site ions and $Zr^{4+}$ as B-site ion in $A_2B_2O_7$ pyrochlore structures. With powder mixture from each oxide, $(La_{1-x}Gd_x)_2Zr_2O_7$ oxides are fabricated via solid-state reaction at $1600^{\circ}C$. Either pyrochlore or fluorite or mixture of both appears after heat treatment. For the developed phases along $(La_{1-x}Gd_x)_2Zr_2O_7$ compositions, thermal conductivities are examined, with which the potential of $(La_{1-x}Gd_x)_2Zr_2O_7$ compositions for TBC application is also discussed.

  • In order to comply with demand for high efficient gas turbines operating at higher temperatures, considerable amounts of research efforts have been performed with searching for the next-generation thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) with respect to coating materials as well as processing methods. In this study, thermal barrier coatings in the $(La_{1-x}Gd_x)_2Zr_2O_7$ system, which is one of the most versatile materials replacing yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ), are fabricated by suspension plasma spray with suspension made of synthesized powders via solidstate reaction. Dense, $100{\sim}400{\mu}m$ thick coatings of fluorite-phase zirconate with moderate amount of segmented microstructures are obtained by using suspension plasma spray. Phase formation and thermal diffusivity are characterized with coating compositions. The feasibility of $(La_{1-x}Gd_x)_2Zr_2O_7$ coatings for TBC applications is also discussed.

  • As operating temperatures of engines or turbines continually increase for higher efficiency, significant amounts of researches have been focused on finding new materials, which would be alternatives to conventional yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) for thermal barrier coatings (TBCs). In this study, phase evolution and thermo-physical properties of $La_2(Zr_{1-x}Hf_x)_2O_7$ pyrochlore systems are investigated for TBC applications. $La_2(Zr_{1-x}Hf_x)_2O_7$ systems are comprised by selecting $La^{3+}$ as A-site ions and $Zr^{4+}/Hf^{4+}$ as B-site ions in $A_2B_2O_7$ pyrochlore structures. For the developed phases in $La_2(Zr_{1-x}Hf_x)_2O_7$ compositions, thermo-physical properties such as thermal conductivity, thermal expansion coefficient are examined. The potential of these $La_2(Zr_{1-x}Hf_x)_2O_7$ compositions for TBC application is also discussed.

  • The effect of Co dopant on the (La, Sr)MnO3 cathode was investigated. La2Zr2O7 and SrZrO3 were formed as the reaction products between YSZ and LSMC. The reactivity of LSMC with YSZ increased with increasing Co content. However, the cathodic polarization resistance decreased with increasing Co doping. Therefore, doping Co at Mn site in the (La, Sr)MnO3 cathode was effective on controlling the polarization resistance of the cathode. The polarization property of LSMC-YSZ composite(60 wt%: 40 wt%) cathode was better than that of LSMC single cathode.

  • 본 논문에서는 Pb(Sn$_{1}$7/Mn$_{2}$7/Nb$_{4}$7/)O$_{3}$- Pb(Zr, Ti)O$_{3}$계에 La$_{2}$O$_{3}$를 첨가하여 그양에 따른 압전일 전기력 성질의 변화를 고찰하였다. La$_{2}$O$_{3}$ 첨가량의 증가에 따라 유전상수, 압전 d상수, 유전손실, 비저항 등은 증가하였으나 경시 변화량은 오히려 감소하였다.

  • The joining behavior of YSZ ceramics to the glasses used in the $9Al_2O_3-24ZrO_2-51SiO_2-16R_2O$ and $9Al_2O_3-24ZrO_2-51SiO_2-7La_2O_3-9R_2O$ (wt%) glass systems was investigated. The glass transition and softening temperatures were determined to be $430^{\circ}C$ and $760^{\circ}C$, respectively. The behavior of the contact angle was inversely proportional to an increase in the temperature. The Zr element in YSZ acted as a nucleation agent and contributed to the bonding behavior at the interface.

  • Rare-earth zirconates, such as $La_2Zr_2O_7$ and $Gd_2Zr_2O_7$, have been investigated as one of the candidates for replacing conventional yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) for thermal barrier coating (TBC) applications at higher turbine inlet temperatures. In this study, double-ceramic-layer (DCL) TBCs of YSZ 1st layer and $La_2Zr_2O_7$ top coat layer are fabricated by suspension plasma spray with serial liquid feeders. Microstructures, hardness profiles, and thermal durability of DCL-TBCs are also characterized. Fabricated DCL-TBCs of YSZ/$La_2Zr_2O_7$ exhibit excellent properties, such as adhesion strength (>25 MPa) and electrical thermal fatigue (~1429 cycles), which are comparable with TBCs fabricated by atmospheric plasma spray.

  • The perovskites in the $LaAlO_3-BaZrO_3$ system (i.e., $(1-x)LaAlO_3-xBaZrO_3$ were fabricated by a solid state reaction and their dielectric properties were investigated. For the compositions of x=0.1~0.9, the mixture of $LaAlO_3$ with a rhombohedral structure and $BaZrO_3$ with a cubic was observed when the sintering was conducted at $1500^{\circ}C$, indicating that the solubility of constituent elements was very low and a narrow solid solution region might exist. The large difference of ionic radii between $La^{3+}$ ion (0.136nm, C.N.=12) and $Ba^{2+}$ ion (0.161nm) or $Al^{3+}$ ion (0.0535nm, C.N.=6) and $Zr^{4+}$ ion (0.072nm) might hinder the mutual substitution. Within the compositions of x=0~0.7, the dielectric constant of the mixture increased with the amount of $BaZrO_3$, i.e., x value, which was in good agreement with the logarithmic mixing rule (In $_{r,i}={\Sigma}v_iln\;_{r,i}$). The increase in $BaZrO_3$ doping decreased $Q{\times}f$ value significantly due to the low $Q{\times}f$ value of $BaZrO_3$ itself, a poor microstructure of the mixture with an increased grain boundary area per volume, and defects in the cation and oxygen sub-lattices which were respectively caused by the evaporation of barium during the sintering process and the substitution of Ba on La-site or Al on Zr-site.

Effect of Li3BO3 Additive on Densification and Ion Conductivity of Garnet-Type Li7La3Zr2O12 Solid Electrolytes of All-Solid-State Lithium-Ion Batteries

  • In this study, we investigate the effect of the$Li_3BO_3$ additive on the densification and ionic conductivity of garnet-type $Li_7La_3Zr_2O_{12}$ solid electrolytes for all-solid-state lithium batteries. We analyze their densification behavior with the addition of $Li_3BO_3$ in the range of 2-10 wt.% by dilatometer measurements and isothermal sintering. Dilatometry analysis reveals that the sintering of $Li_7La_3Zr_2O_{12}-Li_3BO_3$ composites is characterized by two stages, resulting in two peaks, which show a significant dependence on the $Li_3BO_3$ additive content, in the shrinkage rate curves. Sintered density and total ion conductivity of the system increases with increasing $Li_3BO_3$ content. After sintering at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 8 h, the $Li_7La_3Zr_2O_{12}-8$ wt.% $Li_3BO_3$ composite shows a total ionic conductivity of $1.61{\times}10^{-5}Scm^{-1}$, while that of the pure $Li_7La_3Zr_2O_{12}$ is only $5.98{\times}10^{-6}Scm^{-1}$.

$MnO_2$가 첨가될 PSS-PT-PZ 세라믹의 유전 및 초전특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Dielectric and Pyroelectric Properties of the PSS-PT-PZ Ceramics Added $MnO_2$)

  • In this study, $(Pb_{0.99}La_{0.01})[(Sb_{1/2}Sn_{1/2})_{0.10}Ti_{0.25}Zr_{0.65}]O_3$, added $MnO_2$ (0-0.30[mol%]) ceramics were fabricated by the mixed oxide method. The sintering temperature and time were $1250[^{\circ}C]$, 2[hr], respectively. In the $(Pb_{0.99}La_{0.01})[(Sb_{1/2}Sn_{1/2})_{0.10}Ti_{0.25}Zr_{0.65}]O_3$ added $MnO_2$ (0.24[mol%]) specimens, relative dielectric constant and dielectric loss were minimum values 3.52, 0.003, respectively, and Curie temperature were highest values $256[^{\circ}C]$. Pyroelectric coefficient and voltage responsivity of the $(Pb_{0.99}La_{0.01})[(Sb_{1/2}Sn_{1/2})_{0.10}Ti_{0.25}Zr_{0.65}]O_3$, and added $MnO_2$ (0.24[mol%]) specimen were good values, $6.73{\times}10^{-8}[C/cm^2K],\;125[v/W]$, respectively. Figure of merit of pyroelectric current, voltage and detectivity of the specimen, $(Pb_{0.99}La_{0.01})[(Sb_{1/2}Sn_{1/2})_{0.10}Ti_{0.25}Zr_{0.65}]O_3$ added $MnO_2$ (0.24[mol%]) were good values $2.714{\times}10^{-8}[Ccm/J],\;7.706{\times}10^{-11}[Ccm/J],\;2.640{\times}10^{-8}[Ccm/J]$, respectively. Voltage responsivity of the $(Pb_{0.99}La_{0.01})[(Sb_{1/2}Sn_{1/2})_{0.10}Ti_{0.25}Zr_{0.65}]O_3$ added $MnO_2$ (0.24[mol%]) specimens were decreased with increasing the chopper frequency.
