  • ${\beta}-Sitosteryl-3-O-{\beta}-D-glucopyranoside$ was isolated from the seeds of Plantago asiatica (Plantaginaceae). The assignments of $^{13}C$ NMR spectra of ${\beta}-sitosterol$ and ${\beta}-sitosteryl-3-O-{\beta}-D-glucopyranoside$ were made by comparing with $^{13}C$ NMR spectra of cholesterol and $cholesteryl-3-O-{\beta}-D-glucopyranoside$. Our data indicate that the revision of previous $^{13}C$ NMR spectral assignment is needed.

수오공의 화학성분 (Chemical Constituents of Kyllinga brevifolia)

  • The chemical constituents of Kyllinga brevifolia Rottb. var. leiolepsis Hara (Cyperaceae) were studied. From the chloroform and n-butanol soluble fractions, five compounds were isolated by chromatographic purification process. They were identified as ${\beta}-sitostenone$, ergosterol peroxide, ${\beta}-sitosterol$, ${\beta}-sitosteryl$-3-O-{\beta}-D-glucopyanoside and vitexin, respectively. This is the first report of the identification of ${\beta}-sitostenone$, ergosterol peroxide from Cyperaceae.

  • The rhizoma of Polygonatum odoratum (Liliaceae) has been used as the treatment of body fluid deficiency, dryness symptoms and hyper glycemia. To study effects on acute renal failure of P. odorati rhizoma, urinary volume, urinary electrolytes and serum factors associated with renal dysfunction were measured in $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure rats. It was revealed that its ether ex. had significant diuretic effects, regulated hypoelectrolytes$(Na^+,\;K^+,\;Cl^-)$ and inhibited the increase of creatinine, BUN in acute renal failure rats. From the ether ex. which was more effective than MeOH ex., three lipophilic compounds were isolated and elucidated hydrocarbon(l), ${\beta}-sitosteryl$ stearate(2), ${\beta}-sitosterol$(3). The ${\beta}-sitosteryl$ stearate(2) were isolated from Polygonatum sp. at first.

  • A benzofuran substance was isolated from the methanol extract of Pauownia tomentosa stem which has been used to treat against gonorrhoea and contusion etc. in the oriental traditional medicine. Its structure was elucidated as methyl-5-hydroxy-[1, 4]naphthoquino-[2, 3-b]benzo-[I, 2-g] benzofuran-6-carboxylate by X-ray crystallography and various spectroscopic evidences and also other three known compounds, paulownin, sesamin, $\beta$-sitosteryl-3-O-$\beta$-D-glucopyranoside, were obtained.

  • Three compounds were isolated from the chloroform and n-butanol extracts of Filipendula glaberrima (Rosaceae). The structures of these isolates were elucidated as monotropitin, (+)-catechin, and ${\beta}-sitosteryl-3-O-{\beta}-D-glucopyranoside$ by spectroscopic analysis, and were identified by comparison of their spectra with those of reported ones.

골담초근의 Lipid성분에 관한 연구 (Acylucosyl Sterols from the Roots of Caragana chamlagu)

  • A mixture of acylglucosyl sterols together with ${\beta}-sitosterol$, ${\beta}-sitosterol\;3{\beta}-O-glucoside$ and fatty acids was isolated from the roots of Caragana chamlagu as their acetate forms and the structure elucidated by chemical and spectroscopic means. The major acylglucosyl sterol was ${\beta}-sitosteryl\;3-O-[6'-O-oleoyl]-{\beta}-D-glucopyranoside$ while the minor components were $6'-O-palmitoyl-\;and\;6'-O-stearoyl-{\beta}-D-glucosyl$ sitosterol congeners. The isolation and structure elucidation of these acylglucosyl sterols are reported for the first time from the genus Caragana.

미역줄나무의 항암활성에 관한 연구 (Study on the Antitumor Activity of Tripterygium Regelii Sprague)

  • Tripterygium regelii has been used as an oriental medicine, especially antiparasitic, anti-inflammatory and detoxifying agents in East asia. During our research to develop new antitumor agents from natural products, MeOH ext. and CH2Cl2 ext. of Tripterygium regelii showed the potent antitumor activity. In order to purify active compounds from Tripterygium regelii, activity-guided fractionation was carried out. Silica gel and RP-18 column chromatography for the active fraction led to the isolation of two compounds and their antitumor activities were studied. Those two compounds didn't show potent antitumor activity against human tumor cell lines. The structure of two compounds were determined by $^1H-NMR$, $^{13}C-NMR$, DEPT, $^1H-^{13}C$ COSY and IR spectrum. Compound I and Compound II were turned out to be Celastrol, and ${\beta}-sitosteryl-3-o-{\beta}-D-glucopyranoside$ respectively.

  • The ether soluble fraction of the methanol extract from the fruits of Crataegus pinnatifida var. psilosa was applied to silica gel column chromatography, eluted step-gradiently with a mixture of dichloromethane and methanol, repeatedly, and five compounds were isolated. These compounds are identified as ursolic acid(I), corosolic acid(II) and euscapic acid (III), ${\beta}-sitosteryl-3-O-{\beta}-_D-glucopyranoside(IV)$ and hyperin(V).

냉초(冷草)의 화학성분(化學成分) 연구(硏究) (Chemical Components of the Root of Veronicastrum sibiricum Pennell)

  • Veronicastrum sibiricum (L.) Pennell (Scrophulariaceae) is a perennial herb growing in moist land. It has been used as a korean folk medicine in treating common cold, leucorrhea, cystitis and liver damage and as cholagogue. The present study dealt with the elucidation of the chemical components. From the roots of the plant, five iridoids were isolated and identified as minecoside $(mp\;142{\sim}3^{\circ})$, 6-O-veratryl catalpol ester $(mp\;216{\sim}8^{\circ})$, catalpol $(mp\;204{\sim}6^{\circ})$, aucubin $(mp\;180{\sim}2^{\circ})$ and 6-desoxy-8-isoferuloyl harpagide $(mp\;139{\sim}41^{\circ})$. Furthermore, ${\beta}-sitosteryl-3-O-D-glucoside$, campesteryl 3-O-D-glucoside, ${\beta}-sitosterol$, campesterol, stigmasterol and mannitol were also isolated.
