$^{129}I$ is especially one of the most harmful radioactive elements because of its long half-life ($t_{1/2}$=$1.7{\times}10^7$ yr). The efficient removal of iodide ($I^-$) and iodate (${IO_3}^-$) in a aqueous solution by adsorption using activated alumina and activated carbon was studied. The removal efficiency was over 99% for iodide ion with silver treated basic alumina and iodate ion with acidic alumina or silver treated acidic alumina without any chemical addition or physical treatments.

On November 15, 2017, Pohang earthquake occurred. Its local magnitude was announced to be $M_L=5.4$ by Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). Ground motion data recorded at KMA stations were obtained from their data bases. From the data, horizontal and vertical response spectra, and V/H ratio were calculated. The horizontal spectra were defined as GMRotI50 spectra. From the statistical analysis of the GMRotI50 spectra, a mean plus one standard deviation spectrum in lognormal distribution is obtained. Regression analysis is performed on this curve to determine the shape of spectrum including transition periods. Applying the same procedure, the shape and transition periods of vertical spectrum were obtained. These results were compared with theKorean standard design spectra, which were developed from domestic and overseas intra-plate earthquake records, and Gyeongju earthquake response spectra. The response spectra of Pohang earthquake were found to be almost identical with the newly proposed design spectra. Even the V/H ratios showed good agreement. These results confirmed that the method adopted when developing the standard design spectra were valid and the developed design spectra were reliable.

This study was performed to determine the protein profiles using sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and Angiotensin-I-converting enzyme(ACE) inhibitory activity (IC50) as affected by the various meat cuts, digestion times with pepsin. Hydrolysates having the protein concentration of 10 ug/mL had approximately 36∼39% ACE inhibitory activities, regardless of meat cut and digestion time. Protein concentration and ACE inhibitory activity of the diluted hydrolysate increased after 1-hr digestion. In original hydrolysates, ACE inhibitory activities of loin had higher than those of round (P<0.05). In addition, non-heated hydrolysates had higher ACE inhibitory activities than heated counterparts. When myosin B was digested by pepsin more than 1 hr, improved ACE inhibitory activities were observed as compared to the non-digested control.

The Interferometric Monitoring of Gamma–ray Bright Active galactic nuclei (iMOGABA) program provides not only simultaneous multifrequency observations of bright gamma–ray detected active galactic nuclei (AGN), but also covers the highest Very Large Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) frequencies ever being systematically monitored, up to 129 GHz. However, observation and imaging of weak sources at the highest observed frequencies is very challenging. In the second paper in this series, we evaluate the viability of the frequency phase transfer technique to iMOGABA in order to obtain larger coherence time at the higher frequencies of this program (86 and 129 GHz) and image additional sources that were not detected using standard techniques. We find that this method is applicable to the iMOGABA program even under non–optimal weather conditions.

In order to identify antibiotic substances in the extract of a lichen, Umbilicaria vellea, the extract was chromatographed and two compounds were isolated. Compound I which showed antifungal and antibacterial activities, melted around 129∼132$^{\circ}C$ and showed UV absorption at 217, 265 and 300 nm. It showed a molecular ion at m/z 196. Its molecular formular was confirmed to be $C_{10}H_{12}O_4$ from elemental analysis. From its IR and NMR data it was identified to be ethyl 2,4-dihydroxy-6-methyl benzoate. Compound II melted around 58∼59$^{\circ}C$ and showed UV absorption at 212, 276 and 282 nm. It showed a molecular ion at m/z 124 and molecular formular was confirmed to be $C_7H_8O_2.$ From the analysis of its IR and NMR spectra it was identified to be 5-methyl-1,3-benzenediol.

Recently, a lot of articles and writings defending animal right and welfare are introduced into our society. For example, P. Singer's Animal Liberation, T. Regan's The Case for Animal Rights, and J. Rachels's Created From Animal are representative writings of animal ethics. In his books, P. Singer maintains that all animals are equal. T. Regan insisted that animals as a subject of a life have rights. J. Rachels's moral individualism is that how an individual may be treated is to be determined, not by considering his group membership, but by considering his own particular characteristics. Interestingly, they use common argument called 'argument from marginal cases' to justify their theoretical positions. If we can disclose the weakness of the argument, all kinds of animal ethics which defend animal right and welfare such as animal liberation theory, animal rights theory and moral individualism will collapse. In this paper, I will examine the concrete contexts in which Singer, Regan and Rachels make use of the argument. And I will critically examine the argument. Lastly I will show that the attempt to deny the difference of species is unsuccessful.

While the issue of caring for the elderly that faces the modern society has reached a serious level, it is expected that it will be particularly true in the Republic of Korea where an aged, not an aging, society is impending. In this paper I did research on establishing behavioral model of residents who dwell in home or welfare facilities. I suggested a behavioral model in daily living, $W_{ip}(n)$, based on event triggering. A multi-hop routing-based wireless luminance/temperature sensor network was built based on the proposed resident's behavioral model. 1 did experiments on behavioral activities of residents on the wireless sensor network system. According to experimental results. I could classify whether the daily activity of a resident someday is regular or not. These experimental results show that the proposed behavioral model is highly applicable in caring for residents in home or welfare facilities effectively in the future.

This study aims to emphasize the importance and activation of citizen oral history. As is well known, research on oral history gradually began in earnest in Korea from the 1980s. Until now, citizen interviews by researchers and elite interviews by researchers have steadily increased in quantity. However, citizen interviews by citizens are insignificant. The "Digital Life-history Archiving" project, which has been under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism since 2021, is a new and meaningful attempt. Citizens are educated on archiving and oral history to conduct interviews and produce archives. It is producing high-quality oral archives, securing citizens' archiving capabilities, and building local cultural resources. Based on the experience of participating in this project in 2021, I evaluated the performance and limitations and looked at the implications. I expect it to help reduce trial and error in the future. I also proposed a plan to actively produce and utilize citizen oral archives. To this end, specific cooperation between oral-history institutions and oral archives platforms were also proposed.

A reliability Acceptance Sampling Plan (RASP) is developed for testing the exponential mean lifetime under the periodic (i. e., equally-spaced) inspection and Type I censoring. Under the periodic inspection, the exact sampling distribution of maximum likelihood (ML) estimator of mean can not be derived. Hence sample size and acceptance criterion are determined by the algorithm proposed on the basis of Monte Carlo simulation such that the producer's and consumer's risks are satisfied for given censoring time and number of inspections. In addition, the developed RASP is compared in terms of sampling size, OC curve, and expected completion time. The effects for the RASP by the chosen inspection scheme are also discussed.

We perform intelligent substation construction of 154kV class with KEPRI. The intelligent substation is build in Gochang 765kV testing facility and consists of electronic instruments, digital control panel, remote monitoring and diagnosis system, and digital relay system. Rogowski coil type CT(RCT) and capacitive voltage divider(CVD) are applicable for instrument transformer of conventional type. Digital control panel(DCP) replaces local panel which is drived by mechanical operation. For monitoring rendition of GIS and TR, various sensors are used. In this paper, we report the synopsis and the progress state of project.
