Change in damping capacity with strain amplitude was studied in Mg-Al-Si alloy in as-cast, solution-treated and aged states, respectively. The as-cast microstructure of the alloy is characterized by eutectic ${\beta}$($Mg_{17}Al_{12}$) phase and Chinese script type $Mg_2Si$ particles. The solution treatment dissolved the ${\beta}$ phase into the matrix, while the aging treatment resulted in the distribution of continuous and discontinuous type ${\beta}$ precipitates. The solution-treated microstructure showed better damping capacity than as-cast and aged microstructures both in strain-dependent and strain-independent damping regions. The decrease in second-phase particles which weakens the strong pinning points on dislocations and distribution of solute atoms in the matrix, would be responsible for the enhanced damping capacity after solution treatment.
During May to July 2004, three strains of Providencia spp. with multidrug-resistance (MDR) were isolated from urinary specimen of three patients hospitalized with a same hospital room. By PCR analysis, all three strains have been found to carry both VIM-2 type $metallo-{\beta}-lactamase$ gene and PER-1 type extended spectrum ${\beta}-lactamase$ gene. One out of three strains carried additional resistance gene, armA, 16S rRNA methylase gene responsible for high level resistance to aminoglycosides. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the identification of Providencia spp. simultaneously carrying $bla_{VIM-2},\;bla_{PER-1}$, and armA genes.
In order to investigate the usability of PALMIWON as antidiabetic immuno-modulating prescription for Insulin-dependent diabetes, we studies the effects of PALMIWON on immune cell and ${\beta}-cell$. U937 was used as the model of immune cell and RINm5F as the model of ${\beta}-cell$. The effects of PALMIWON was measured by cell viability in terms of MIT assay. As a result, PALMIWON and the compositional drugs showed the different effects m immune cell and ${\beta}-cell$. Cell viability of U937 was significantly decreased wheras that of RINm5F was no significantly difference between drug treated group and control, or significantly less reduction compared with U937. It implies that PALMIWON is useful as immunotherapeutic agents in the prevention and therapy of type 1 diabetes.
Purpose: Oral wound healing requires gingival fibroblasts to respond to local growth factors. Epigenetic silencing through DNA methylation can potentially decrease the responsiveness of gingival fibroblasts to local growth factors. In this study, our aim was to determine whether the inhibition of DNA methylation sensitized gingival fibroblasts to transforming growth factor-${\beta}1$ (TGF-${\beta}1$). Methods: Gingival fibroblasts were exposed to 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine (5-aza), a clinically approved demethylating agent, before stimulation with TGF-${\beta}1$. Gene expression changes were evaluated using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis. DNA methylation was detected by methylation-sensitive restriction enzymes and PCR amplification. Results: We found that 5-aza enhanced TGF-${\beta}1$-induced interleukin-11 (IL11) expression in gingival fibroblasts 2.37-fold (P=0.008). 5-aza had no significant effects on the expression of proteoglycan 4 (PRG4) and NADPH oxidase 4 (NOX4). Consistent with this, 5-aza caused demethylation of the IL11 gene commonly next to a guanosine (CpG) island in gingival fibroblasts. The TGF-${\beta}$ type I receptor kinase inhibitor SB431542 impeded the changes in IL11 expression, indicating that the effects of 5-aza require TGF-${\beta}$ signaling. 5-aza moderately increased the expression of TGF-${\beta}$ type II receptor (1.40-fold; P=0.009), possibly enhancing the responsiveness of fibroblasts to TGF-${\beta}1$. As part of the feedback response, 5-aza increased the expression of the DNA methyltransferases 1 (DNMT1) (P=0.005) and DNMT3B (P=0.002), which are enzymes responsible for gene methylation. Conclusions: These in vitro data suggest that the inhibition of DNA methylation by 5-aza supports TGF-${\beta}$-induced IL11 expression in gingival fibroblasts.
Gonadotropins are heterodimers consisting an alpha chain ($Cg{\alpha}$) and a beta chain. Interestingly, presence of complicated $LH-{\beta}$ transcripts in rat testis was accidently found; testicular $LH-{\beta}$ transcripts were confined in seminiferous tubules to spermatids, and the translated products were localized in the elongated spermatids. We hypothesized that mouse testis has potential to produce the tissue specific $LH-{\beta}$ with similar structure to the rat testicular forms. To verify our hypothesis, we examined the adult mouse (ICR) testis using RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry. The PCR revealed the presence of the identical products in the reactions for three LH subunit types. The expected product sizes for mouse $Cg{\alpha}$ and $LH-{\beta}$ known as pituitary type were 224 bp and 503 bp, respectively. The testicular type $LH-{\beta}$ products were produced by a primer set based on the rat sequences, with unexpected size of 800 bp. Sequencing revealed that the proximal and distal parts (2-82 and 661- 773 bp, respectively) were homologous to rat testicular $LH-{\beta}$ cDNA, and middle part (83-660 bp) was a unique mouse-specific region. Both $Cg{\alpha}$ and $LH-{\beta}$ positive signals were in the round and elongated spermatids and mature sperms, and the $LH-{\beta}$ signals were more intense. In conclusion, our study demonstrated that the presence and localization of the LH subunits in mouse testis. Further studies will be needed to understand the precise structure and function of mouse testicular LH.
Objective : The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of Injin fractions on hepatic fibrosis induced by $TGF-{\beta}1$. Method : $TGF-{\beta}1$ mRNA, protein, $TGF-{\beta}1$ receptor, Smad family and PAI-I mRNA were studied in HepG2 cell, and the proliferation, connective tissue growth factor, fibronectin and collagen type I mRNA in T3891 fibroblast by quantitative RT-PCR, ELISA and thymidine incorporation assay. Results : On $TGF-{\beta}1$ mRNA and protein synthesis in HepG2, $H_2O$, butanol and hexane fractions of Injin showed inhibitory effect in a dose-dependent way. In the study on $TGF-{\beta}1$ receptor, Smad family and PAI-1 mRNA in HepG2, $H_2O$, butanol and hexane fraction of Injin showed inhibitory effect on the expression of PAI-1 in a dose-dependent way. On the proliferation of T3891 fibroblast induced by $TGF-{\beta}1$, $H_2O$, ethylacetate and butanol fractions of Injin showed inhibitory effect. In the study on the factors affected by $TGF-{\beta}1$, $H_2O$, ethylacetate and butanol fractions of Injin showed inhibitory effect on CTGF, and $H_2O$, butanol, chloroform and hexane fractions showed inhibitory effect on the expression of collagen type I, whereas no fraction showed inhibitory effect on the expression of fibronectin Conclusion : These results show that each fraction of Injin acts as a fibrosis inhibitory factor by itself or in combination, ultimately inhibiting liver cirrhosis.
Solution conformation of cyclo-($Gln^1-Trp^2-Phe^3-{\beta}Ala^4-Leu^5-Met^6$), new NK-2 antagonist in dimethyl sulfoxide solution, has been determined by the use of two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy combined with simulated annealing calculations. The peptide exhibited converged structures with the atomic root-mean-square difference for the backbone atoms ($N,\;C^{\alpha},\;C'$) of all residues being 0.02${\AA}$ in the 25 annealed structures. The analysis of the structures indicated that the cyclic peptide has three intramolecular hydrogen bonds between $Met^6NH$ and ${\beta}Ala^4CO$, ${\beta}Ala^4NH$ and $Met^6CO$, $Phe^3NH$ and $Met^6CO$, and contain a type-I ${\beta}$-turn with Gln and Trp and ${\gamma}$-turn with Leu. The addition of an extra methylene group to Gly, i.e. P-Ala residue, may relax some unfavorable restraints in the cyclic backbone structure, hence enabling an additional hydrogen bond, which results in stabilizing one conformation.

This study was attempted in order to examine relationship of elementary school students' safety consciousness upon risk recognition of accidental type. We carried out targeting 378 elementary school students who attended 4 schools in J city and K city of J province from June 25 July 15, 2009. The statistical processing was done by SPSS WIN 12.0 Version. The statistical significance was set to p<.05. As for correlation between variables in safety characteristics and safety consciousness, and risk recognition of accidental type, the safety consciousness showed positive correlation with risk recognition of traumatic accident(r=.179, p<.01) and risk recognition of environmental accident(r=.104, p<.05).The whole data of risk recognition of accidental type, the safety education within 1 year($\beta=.139$, t=2.654, p<.01) and traffic safety consciousness($\beta=.172$, t=2.714, p<.01) were indicated to had significant influence upon the risk recognition of accidental type.
To purify transforming growth factor type beta(TGF-$\beta$) in canine platelets, Sephadex G-75 gel filtration and semipreparative HPLC were carried out. The column of $2.0 {\times}120cm$ was used for gel filtration and one inch semipreparative column filled with SP-Toyopeal for HPLC. Electrophoresis and bioassay using African green monkey kidney cell were used for identification of TGF-$\beta$ Crude TGF-$\beta$ of 2.75mg was extracted from 5.2g of the platelets by the treatment of acid/ethanol. In gel filtration of crude TGF-$\beta$, 4 peaks were observed at the detection of spectrophotometer at 280nm. Electrophoresis and bioassay identified the 3rd peak TGF-$\beta$. Linear gradient elution from 0 to 3M NaCl in sornipreparative HPLC showed TGF-$\beta$ at 1.5M NaCl. Gel filtration was less expensive and useful method for the purification of TGF-$\beta$.
In this paper, we have introduced a new type of covering property ${\beta}^t_{({\omega}_r,s)}$-closedness, stronger than $P^t_{({\omega}_r,s)}$-closedness [3] in terms of (r, s)-β-open sets [9] and β-ωt-closures in bitopological spaces along with its several characterizations via filter bases and grills [15] and various properties. Further grill generalizations of ${\beta}^t_{({\omega}_r,s)}$-closedness (namely, ${\beta}^t_{({\omega}_r,s)}$-closedness modulo grill) and associated concepts have also been investigated.
