Aim & Scope

The Journal of Korean Society for Quality Management welcomes state-of-the-art papers from researchers and practitioners working worldwide in the field of quality management. The Journal explores the changing role of quality management. The Journal seeks to explore various aspects of quality management as closely interrelated phenomena in the context of ongoing transformation processes of organizations and societies. Thus the journals' scope is not limited to micro perspectives of management related issues. It seeks further to explore processes, principles and consequences related to quality in a broad range of organizational and scientific processes. These processes embrace managerial, economic, social, environmental and even engineering and statistical dimensions in order to better understand the past, the current situations and the future. The Journal also seeks to embrace a holistic view of quality management and explicitly promotes the emerging field of quality innovation. The Journal is an open forum and one of the main channels for communication of interdisciplinary research and practices. Publications in the Journal engage with the emphatically dynamic nature of contemporary quality management. Fully open access, the Journal is devoted to collaboration, open innovation, co-creation and knowledge-sharing across organizational and national boundaries. The Journal of Korean Society for Quality Management publishes Book Reviews, Case Studies, Empirical Articles, Review Articles, and Theoretical Articles. When evaluating original research, the editors seek well-developed studies that are on sound theoretical footing with respect to their justification. Successful submissions will display high-quality statistical and/or qualitative methodology when it comes to sample and data collection, as well as fluid writing. Papers should clearly describe the implications and significance of the work, contributions to the existing literature, potential limitations and opportunities for future research.

    Purpose: This research reviews the papers, published in the Journal of the Korean Society for Quality Control (KSQC) and the Journal of the Korean Society for Quality Management (KSQM) since 1965, in the area of statistical methods. The literature review is performed in the four fields of the statistical methods and we categorize the published articles into the several sub-areas in each field. Methods: The reviewed articles are classified into the four main categories: probability model and estimation, Bayesian analysis and non-parametric analysis, regression and time series analysis, and application of data analysis. We examine the contents and relationships of the published articles of the several sub-areas in each category. Results: We summarize the reviewed papers in the chronological road-maps for each sub-area, and outline the relations of the connected papers. Some comments on the contents and the contributions of the reviewed papers are also provided in this paper. Conclusion: Various issues are employed and published on the research of the application statistical methods for past 50 years, and many worthy works are achieved in the theory and application areas of statistical methods for improving quality in the manufacturing and service industries. The future direction of the research in the statistical quality management methods also can be explored by the contents of this research.

    Purpose: This article focuses on the reviewing the papers published in the Journal of the Korean Society for Quality Control (JKSQC) and the Journal of the Korean Society for Quality Management (JKSQM) since 1965, in the area of design of experiments. In this paper, moreover, some other contents of another statistical quality control areas is included. Methods: The reviewed articles are classified into the three main categories: theory and application of experimental designs, response surface methodology and mixture experiments, and roust designs. Some omitted papers in the other areas of reviewing works are also included in this paper, and the contents and relationships of the published articles are examined and summarized in each sub-field. Results: We summarize the reviewed papers in the chronological road-maps for each sub-field, and outline the relations of the connected papers. We provide comments on the contents and the contributions of the reviewed papers. The future direction of the research in the theory and application areas of experimental designs can be provided by the contents of this research. Conclusion: The diverse topics on the improving the quality in the various industry fields are studied and published on the theory, methodology and the empirical application in the fields of designs of experiments. We can see that the Korean Society for Quality Management (KSQM) has tremendously contributed on the improvement of quality in the manufacturing and service industries by publishing the reviewed articles in this paper.

    Purpose: This paper reviews the papers on service quality issues which are published in the Journal of the Korean Society for Quality Management (KSQM) since 1965. The literature review is purposed to survey a variety of service quality issues for several categories in terms of industry as well as research model. Methods: By use of the double diamond design process model 71 papers are analyzed 4 stages which are discover, define, develop and deliver. And all of service quality issues are classified into 4 categories: service factory, mass service, service shop and professional service by the service process matrix typology. Results: According to this review, there are several features of research trends. There are 'from physical service to information-intensive service pattern' and 'from private sector to public sector pattern'. And the Kano model has been a steady-selling model to measure the service quality as like a SERVQUAL. Another meaningful issue was a convergency of the research method and tools such as BSC, CRM, AHP, DEA, Information System, Systgem Dynamics and 6 Sigma. Conclusion: The review paper is expected to provide future direction to improve service quality theories and applications. There are three future research topics: Application area, measurement model and research purpose.

    Purpose: Propose model to diagnose and assess National Defense Industry and quality management by investigating and analyzing established standard model. Methods: Research on established internal model including MB, EQA and JQA model and make standard index for quality index extraction and quantitative index to test objectively for internal state. Results: Extract advantage and disadvantage by performance of National Defense Industry level diagnose and build foundation for quality management policy and road map. Conclusion: Due to result of diagnostic assesment of quality management of national defense industry, dependability, SCQM and safety part shows vulnerability and require improvement and support.

    Purpose: This paper treats a defense-supply chain quality management model for analyzing the Korea defense industry. Methods: Various literature, the quality collaboration index for supply chain management model proposed by Korean Standards Association and shared growth index presented by Korea Commission for Corporate Partnership are reviewed to develop the defense supply chain quality management index and model based on the method presented by Hafeez et al.(2006). In addition, based on the proposed model, we survey the supply chain quality management efficiency including focused group interviews in the defense industry. Results: We propose a defense-supply chain quality management index and model for analyzing the quality level between the parent companies and its partners. In addition, the results of applying the model are proposed to improve the quality of military items. Conclusion: A model is developed for improving the quality of military items. This proposed model will be adopted to enhance the quality of military items.

    Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate if companies' efforts of environmental management practices have positive effect on the companies' performance in the first stage of study. In the second stage, we tried to confirm whether the degree of companies' making efforts on cost leadership strategy and quality leadership strategy function as moderate variable on relationship between environmental management practices and performance. Methods: The collected data through survey were analysed using multiple regression model in the first stage of the study and moderate regression model in the second. Results: The results of this study are as follows; environmental management practices have positive effect on corporate performance. Moreover, much effort on quality leadership strategy has limited significant moderate effect on relationship between environmental management practices and performance, while much effort by companies on cost leadership strategy does not have significant moderate effect on the relationship between the two variables. Conclusion: Manufacturing and services companies in Korea need to make effort for environmental management practices to improve corporate performance. Moreover, if that efforts are combined with quality leadership strategy, they can expect synergy effect with environmental management practices for performance improvement.

    Purpose: In this study, we revealed the influence of customer buying factors in the purchase process of eco-friendly product. Especially, we focused on the information acquisition, alternative evaluation, and after-purchase activity process based on Korea-China customer's survey. Methods: In the information acquisition process, we investigate the channels of information acquisition about eco-friendly product, a reliability of information, and an impediment of acquiring product information. At the stage of alternative evaluation, we extract various causes that affects pre-purchasing process and perform the AHP analysis to identify critical causes. At last, we compare several factors which affects before and after purchasing process. Results: Especially, an average utilization and cognition score of eco-friendly products of Chinese consumers is higher than Korean consumers' score. In addition, critical buying factors of Korean consumers are a product quality, an evaluation of existing users. However, that of Chinese consumers are safety of products and environmental benefits of products. Conclusion: In recent years, as the rapid economic development of China, environment pollutions like heavy smog and yellow dust have been occurred frequently. In that manner, Chinese consumer's environmental consciousness is rapidly increasing; not only try to be active participant in eco-friendly activities, but also eco-friendly purchasing activities. In addition, Chinese consumers recognize eco-friendly products as good products made with advanced technology.

    Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to study whether the adoption of Six Sigma quality management by a firm positively affects its financial performance. The correlation between the duration of Six Sigma implementation period and the financial status of the firm is investigated as well. Methods: We conduct the analysis using data from Manufacturing Industry Productivity Panel Survey 2013 provided by Korea Productivity Center and Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Propensity score matching is used to reduce sample selection bias of observational study. Furthermore, we use multiple linear regression in order to study the relationship between the implementation of Six Sigma quality management and financial performance. The return on assets and ratio of net income to net sales are considered as dependent variable and implementation of Six Sigma as independent variable. Results: The indication of this analysis is that implementation of Six Sigma quality management does not significantly enhance financial status. The firms that adopted Six Sigma quality management were categorized into three groups according to the implementation period. Comparison of each group with the firms that do not adopt Six Sigma quality management does not show statistically significant enhancement of financial status. Conclusion: In conclusion, both adoption and duration of six sigma quality management do not affect financial performance significantly.

    Purpose: The paper aims to measure customer experience at banks in South Korea. This study examines six factors of customer experience and identifies their impacts on customer loyalty. Methods: The collected data with surveys were analyzed by using multi-regression analysis. The measurement tools used for this study were categorized into six dimensions: Customization, Employees, Servicescape, Internet Banking, Value addition, and the Presence of other customers. Results: Customer experience has an influence on customer satisfaction: The effects of Customization, Employees, Servicescape, Internet Banking and Value addition were found. However, the presence of other customers was not significant on customer satisfaction. Interestingly, it was found that customer satisfaction made a statistically significant influence on customer loyalty. Conclusion: This study focuses on a bank sector of customer experience. Thus, six factors of measuring customer experience were found. The results of this study will predict customers' experience and also build up effective strategies for the utmost satisfaction of the customers.

    Purpose: This paper suggests a hierarchical time delay model to evaluate failure risks in FMEA(failure modes and effects analysis). In place of the conventional RPN(risk priority number), a more reasonable and objective risk metric is proposed under hierarchical failure cause structure considering time delay between a failure mode and its causes. Methods: The structure of failure modes and their corresponding causes are analyzed together with the time gaps between occurrences of causes and failures. Assuming the severity of a failure depends on the length of the delayed time for corrective action, a severity model is developed. Using the expected severity, a risk priority metric is defined. Results: For linear and quadratic types of severity, nice forms of expected severity are derived and a meaningful metric for risk evaluation is defined. Conclusion: The suggested REM(risk evaluation metric) provides a more reasonable and objective risk measure than the conventional RPN for FMEA.

    Purpose: This study was designed to analyze the behavioral change of knowledge structures and the trends of research topics in the quality management field. Methods: The network structure and knowledge structure of the words were visualized in map form using co-word analysis, cluster analysis and strategic diagram. Results: Summarizing the research results obtained in this study are as follows. First, the word network derived from co-occurrence matrix had 106 nodes and 5,314 links and its density was analyzed to 0.95. Average betweenness centrality of word network was 2.37. In addition, average closeness centrality and average eigenvector centrality of word network were 0.01. Second, by applying optimal criteria of cluster decision and K-means algorithm to word co-occurrence matrix, 106 words were grouped into seven clusters such as standard & efficiency, product design, reliability, control chart, quality model, 6 sigma, and service quality. Conclusion: According to the results of strategic diagram analysis over time, the traditional research topics of quality management field related to reliability, 6 sigma, control chart topics in the third quadrant were revealed to be declined for their study importance. Research topics related to product design and customer satisfaction were found to be an important research topic over analysis periods. Research topic related to management innovation was emerging state and the scope of research topics related to process model was extended to research topics with system performance. Research topic related to service quality located in the first quadrant was analyzed as the key research topic.

    Purpose: Present study was designed to examine the casual relationships among service quality, self-efficacy, perceived usefulness, user satisfaction and Continuous Usage in new technology-based banking system. Also, we intended to testify the moderating effects of user experience period in causal model. We applied path analysis model in order to test the hypotheses and research model. Methods: Survey tool, that is, questionnaire has obtained validity through literature survey, exploratory survey and pretest and sample 279 was selected. For statistical treatment of pretest and main analysis, SPSS20.0 and AMOS 20.0 were employed and structural equation model was employed as analysis method. Results: Result of this study shows as follows. All factors have an effect on user satisfaction and Continuous Usage, and we found that user experience period played moderating effect in causal relationship. Therefore, new technology-based banking system is found that the determinants of continuous usage intention is different according to the user experience period. Conclusion: Present study shows that self-efficacy in via of user experience period, there is a need to emphasize that the main consideration factor new technology-based banking system. However, present study has some limitations to additionally research in the future.

    Purpose: This study can provide a strategic advantage for the marketing information of CRM of apartment provider microscopically. It is also expected to contribute to policy for public housing supply in the macro. Methods: This study is contained theoretical research on CRM & Residential Satisfaction & the brand of Apartments with the search for prior literature. Establish a research model to derive a hypothesis. It performs measurements aimed at an apartment tenant. After the test the hypothesis proposes a conclusion. Results: CRM activity of the housing construction companies is confirmed that a significant positive influence on residential satisfaction and brand value. Conclusion: Housing construction companies through improved residential satisfaction have on the growth strategy that takes the brand value in regardless of environmental factors. it is necessary to focus on CRM activities.

    Purpose: This study was to identify customers' demands in railway services system and then to seek the way to satisfy the customer expectations. Methods: We suggest a Quality Function Deployment(QFD)-based approach comprised of three stages. In first stage, SERVPERF survey was carried out to assess current positions of customer expectations in the market. Then, factor analysis was incorporated into SERVPERF to classify customer expectations for the house of quality. In the second stage, the analytic network process was used to prioritize the importance of the customer attributes. Finally, QFD was performed utilizing customer attributes and their weights. Results: The QFD identified the most important customer expectations as: accident prevention, swift reaction to accident, on-time arrivals and departures of the train. It also shows that driving capability, equipment for safety, and training for disaster are the most critical technical requirements. Conclusion: The results are useful for identifying the customers' demands in railway services systems, and they can contribute to the service quality and customer satisfaction.
