On this earth, we usually encounter three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. Those are the states we experience directly and most often in everyday life. However, if we consider the whole universe, more than 99.99 percent of our visible universe is in plasma state. The earth is in very unusual situation in the universe, and it is great virtue to whole creatures on this planet. In the beginning of the universe, however, there was only plasma. The other stuff came later after then. The Big Bang, beginning of our universe, was dominated by high-temperature plasma. It is where we all came from, and it continues to play a major role not only in our universe but also in various industrial applications of human being.

In this article, we present a brief explanation of simulation for magnetic confined fusion plasma. Devices for nuclear fusion experiment become large, complex, and expensive these days, so the simulation can be a valuable tool for understanding and expecting the fusion plasma physics. Research areas presented here are plasma equilibrium and instability, turbulence study, heating and current driving, boundary and divertor area plasma physics, and integrated operation scenario study. Traditionally, many foreign codes have been used because those are verified and stable, however our own MHD and gyrokinetic codes with better performance are under developing recently. While researchers have devoted their effort to make and use a simulation code in individual areas, many ones also endeavor to integrate the simulation codes in different areas for thorough understanding of fusion plasma physics.

Transparent and top emission organic light-emitting device (OLEDs) are the important issues in realizing new display applications such as see-through electronic displays, and flexible displays. The cathode of the transparent and top emission OLEDs should be transparent in the visible light and should not give any damage to the underlying organic layers, in addition to its intrinsic role of injecting electrons into the organic layers. Several authors have investigated the transparent conducting oxide films prepared by sputtering methods. They have introduced the sophisticated sputtering process for reducing the damages. Other groups have developed thermally evaporated transparent cathodes which are believed to be damage free without causing any permanent defect to the organic layers. This review focuses on the vacuum evaporated damage free transparent cathodes.

Display is a key component in electronic devices. OLED is growing very fast recently due to the explosion of the smart phone market although still LCD is the dominating display technology in the display market at the moment. Also needs for the large area and high resolution TVs and flexible displays are increasing these days. Especially flexible display is expected to be one of the key technologies in mobile devices requiring small device size and large display size. Contrary to the conventional displays, flexible display requires organic materials for the substrate, the active driving element and also for the display element. Plastic film as a substrate, organic semiconductor as an active component of the transistor and organic light emitting materials or electronic paper as a display element are studied actively. In this article, mainly backplane technologies such as substrates and the transistor materials for flexible display will be introduced.
