Objectives This study was designed to development the diagnosis indicators for the fatigue group without disease using analysis of questionnaire data. Methods The subjects were divided into three groups, the fatigue group with disease, the fatigue group without disease, non-fatigue group without disease. Thirteen kinds of questionnaire (Fatigue visual analogue scale, Fatigue severity scale, Pain visual analogue scale, Short-form McGill pain questionnaire score, Headache impact Test-6, Neck disability index, Oswestry low back pain disability questionnaire score, Blood stasis assessment scale, Physical activities questionnaire score, Beck depression inventory, Anger expression inventory score, Mood disability scale, Job stress scale) were carried out for the subjects. Results The results of this study are ; 1) The weight, the systolic and diastolic blood pressure were different among three groups. 2) Among nine questionnaires related to the physical or life conditions, the averages of eight questionnaires were not same one another. 3) Among four questionnaires related to the mental condition or autonomic nervous system, the averages of Beck depression inventory were not same one another. Conclusion The fatigue group without disease can be diagnosed through using the both the questionnaires related to the physical or life condition and the those related to the mental condition or autonomic nervous system.

Objectives The aim of this study is to analyze the characteristics of the tongue coating pattern in the elderly patients with xerostomia. Methods Ninety-six elderly patients with xerostomia were recruited by advertisement and they visited the oral diseases clinics at Kyung Hee University Korean Medicine Hospital and Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gangdong from November, 2011 to August, 2013. After signifying the assent, the subjects who passed screening were enrolled this study. The subjects were evaluated on their clinical characteristics of xerostomia using visual analogue scale for xerostomia, dry mouth questionnaire, unstimulated salivary flow rate. In addition, Yin-deficiency questionnaire was used to evaluate the Yin-deficiency state and Winkel tongue coating index and Digital Tongue imagin system were used to measure the tongue coating of patients. Results The proportion of women was higher than that of men, and there were few smokers in this study population. This population had chronic and relatively severe xerostomia symptoms. Also, thin coating pattern was showed in this elderly patients with xerostomia and this result was regarded to the influence of Yin-deficiency. The thin coating patten was observed in the group with higher Yin-deficiency score. There was no difference in tongue coating between the hyposalivation and normosalivation group. Conclusion In the elderly patients with xerostomia, Yin-deficiency is might be considered as one of the main cause of xerostomia. Hence, it is thought that this patients showed the thin coating pattern. This results could be used in diagnosis and treatment for the elderly patients with xerostomia in traditional Korean medicine.

Objectives Yusanghan(類傷寒) means disease which chills and fever manifest like Cold damage(傷寒) but not Cold damage. However, study on Yussanghan is insignificant. The purpose of this study is to examine the origin and development process of Yusanghan. Methods: 1. Terms and disease related with Yusanghan was collected from books covering Cold damage of all time and analyzed. 2. The transition history was researched by analyzing collected terms. 3. Total appearance frequency of all time by collected disease was researched. Results: Yusanghan was appeared in Hwalinseo(活人書), which Ju Geong(朱肱) of the Song Dynasty wrote, for the first time and the definition and type were established. For the types of those, there are four diseases such as Phlegm-Fluid Retention(痰飮), Food Accumulation(食積), Vexation of Deficiency Type(虛煩), Beriberi(脚氣). Since then, the theory about Yusanghan had developed and the number of types had also increased until the Myung Dynasty. Conclusions: In early days, External Contraction Diseases(外感病) was not included in Yusanghan, but since the late Myung Dynasty, there were a lot of doctors who included External Contraction Diseases in Yusanghan, not in Cold damage. There are Summerheat Stroke, Wind-Dampness(風濕), and Warm Disease(溫病) etc. for included External Contraction Diseases. Because of this, the number of types of Yusanhan had significantly increased.

Objectives Although tongue diagnosis is one of major diagnostic methods in east Asian traditional medicine, the standard of normal tongue color have not established. So we tried to suggest the method to establish the standard of normal tongue color range and the pilot data about the normal range. Materials and methods: 22 precedent study papers that presented the numerical data of normal (light red) tongue color were analyzed. At the same time, 46 adult people tongue color data were also collected and analyzed. Results Precedent studies showed remarkable fluctuations of the range of normal tongue color. Collected tongue color data of the 46 people showed mean Hue value 2 and standard deviation 14 in HSB system. Additionally, 3 ways of standard establishment for normal tongue color were suggested. Conclusion We suggest statistical method as a reasonable method for tongue color standard establishment and $2{\pm}14$ as a reference Hue value for normal tongue color.

Objectives The aim of this study is to design a part in contact with the face of computerized tongue diagnosis system (CTDS), so that external light is effectively shielded even if the facial appearance and degree of protrusion differ when a patient opens or closes his/her jaws. Methods Each of the 4 researchers manually produced clay models of the part in contact with the face of CTDS. Shielding and contact feeling of the clay models were evaluated by 20 assessors. Based on the evaluation, we selected the appropriate model and produced the final silicon model. Then we evaluated the performance of the shielding of the completed silicon model. We took tongue pictures of 60 participants with a CTDS applying the silicon model in condition with external light and without it. The color values in RGB color model and gray scale of the tongue pictures in condition with external light were compared with those without external light. Results There was no significant difference between the color values of the picture taken in condition with external light and those without external light. Conclusions We concluded that the produced part in contact with the face of CTDS can effectively block out the external light.

Objectives The objective and universal grading system for the facial nerve palsy is needed to the objectification of treatment in Oriental medicine. In this study, the facial nerve palsy grading was developed with combination of image processing technique and Nottingham scale. Methods The developed system is composed of measurement part, image processing part, facial nerve palsy evaluation part, and display part. With the video data recorded by webcam at measurement part, the positions of marker were measured at image processing part. In evaluation part, Nottingham scales were calculated in four different facial expressions with measured marker position. The video of facial movement, time history of marker position, and Nottingham scale were displayed in display part. Results & Conclusion The developed system was applied to a normal subject and a abnormal subject with facial nerve palsy. The left-right difference of Nottingham scores was large in the abnormal compared with the normal. In normal case, the change of the length between supraorbital point and infraorbital point was larger than that of the length between lateral canthus and angle of mouth. The abnormal case showed an opposite result. The developed system showed the possibilities of the objective and universal grading system for the facial nerve palsy.

Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of walking exercise on diabetes mellitus indicator and vascular compliance of type 2 diabetes mellitus adults. Methods The subjects were 2 groups; exercise group(n=11, $age=57.36{\pm}8.74$), non-exercise group(n=10, $age=59.20{\pm}5.81$). Walking exercise five or more times a week, and more than 10,000 steps per day with writing the walking diary ordered to the exercise group. For date analysis, mean and standard deviation scores were calculated, and independent t-test was performed. Result After 45 days of walking exercise, weight (p <.01), abdominal obesity rate (p <.05), body fat mass (p <.05) showed significant difference between the groups. but diabetes indicators and vascular compliance tend to decreased in the exercise group, there was no significant difference between the groups. Conclusions Walking exercise is effective in improving body composition.

Objectives This study is on the quantifying method for the acupuncture-moxa cautery heat response index, which are based on the some definitions. Methods The magnitude of the acupuncture-moxa cautery is defined by the pain-feeling of the acupuncture-moxa cautery stimulation: the stimulation magnitude of the acupuncture is 1, that of the direct moxa-cautery is 2, and that of the indirect moxa-cautery is 0.5. The heat variation of the acupuncture-moxa cautery stimulation is defined by the heat variations of the characteristic points pre/post-stimulations in the stenosis of the lumber. The acupuncture-moxa cautery heat response index is defined by the ratio of between the magnitude of the heat variation and the natural logarithmic magnitude of the stimulation. Results With the respect of the acupuncture-moxa cautery heat response index, I experimented and estimated 4 types of stimulations in the stenosis of the lumber: the single acupuncture stimulation with 40%, the single direct moxa-cautery stimulation with 52%, the combinational acupuncture-moxa cautery stimulations with 27%, and the combinational acupuncture-indirect electronic moxa-cautery stimulations with 53%. Conclusions According to the acupuncture-moxa cautery heat response index. the combinational acupuncture-moxa cautery stimulations especially need to be changed to the combinational acupuncture-indirect electronic moxa-cautery stimulations.

Objectives This study was designed to investigate the anti-inflammatory effect of extracts from Ligustrum obtusifolium S. fruits(LOF) in RAW 264.7 Macrophages stimulated with lipopolysaccharide(LPS). Methods We examined productions of nitric oxide(NO), reactive oxygen species(ROS), inducible isoforms of NO synthase(iNOS), cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) to investigate the anti-inflammatory effect of LOF extracts. In addition, we measured generation of pro-inflammatory cytokines(TNF-${\alpha}$, IL-6). Results Cell viability showed that LOF extracts had no cytotoxicity in Raw 264.7 cells. The treatment with LOF extracts significantly decreased the generation of NO and pro-inflammatory cytokines(TNF-${\alpha}$, IL-6) in LPS-stimulated macrophage cells. Furthermore LOF extracts inhibited intracellular ROS generation dose dependently and reduced the expression of iNOS, COX-2 proteins. Conclusions These results showed that the LOF extracts had an anti-inflammatory effect on LPS-stimulated Raw 264.7 cells. These findings provide scientific support for the use of this Ligustrum obtusifolium S. for inflammatory-related diseases.

In the present study, antioxidant activity and protective effect of extracts from Sambucus williamsii var. coreana stems (SWC) were evaluated on tert-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BHP) induced oxidative stress in human liver (Chang) cells. Antioxidant activities of the SWC extracts were determined by various radical scavenging activities, such as DPPH, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), 2,2'-azinobis-(3-ethybenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging activity and oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) assay. SWC extracts showed strong antioxidant effect on various assay. To determine the hepatoprotective effects of SWC on t-BHP induced oxidative damage, cell viability was measured using MTT assay. Pretreatment of SWC extracts showed increasing cell viability, decreasing ROS and restoring mitochondria membrane potential on t-BHP induced oxidative stress in Chang cells. Our findings suggest that SWC extracts may be considered a potential agent for therapeutic protective effect from oxidative stress through its antioxidant activity.

Objectives This study is report the effect of Asian Medical treatments for acne. Methods 25 years old mixed Hispanic female in California resident patient who was suffering from acne was treated with the Chung-We mix Extract powder, Houttuyniae Herba Extract and comedone extractor. She was taken a picture to compare with before and after treatments. Results Her acne was decreased and global acne grading system by 35 points to 7point improvement on the after treatments. Conclusion This case has the effectiveness with Herbs. According to Asian medicine, the caused of acne is internal problems and the acne is diagnosed as several kind of heats in the internal organ. Further clinical case of acne is needed for better results and to develop the ways of accurate diagnosis.
