This paper presents a process control language for constructing multiloop control system. which include advanced control algorithms. In order to make controller, this language uses function blocks that do specific operations. Then, the total control algorithm is a set of function blocks, of which each block is represented as a function code. The function code is a line of simple ASCII codes denoting function, input, output, parameters. It is possible to use variables as input/output port of any block. Compared with other language using function block concept, the proposed one enables to use advanced control algorithms undefinitely, such as fuzzy, neural network, predictive controller, etc., because vector and matrix variables as input/output can be used freely in this language. To raise flexibility, we put an intermediate level, which is C-language code, between function code and target-dependent operation code.

Although the fuzzy logic controller(FLC) has been adopted in many engineering applications, its performance is not guaranteed since there is no definite theoretic analysis. It may be the main factor that one hesitates to adopt the FLC in critical applications. In this paper, observing the similarity in the pattern of control input between the FLC and a conventional robust controller, i.e., the variable structure controller, we present theoretic analysis for robustness of a fuzzy control system based on the Lyapunov theory.

A new tri-aural ultrasonic sensor system is suggested to build more accurate world maps for mobile robots with less scanning. In ordinary single sensor systems, the inherent beam-width of sonar transmitter causes ambiguity in sensing direction. Dual sensors may be used to discriminate plane and corner with several scans. However, the proposed method uses triple sensors, and achieves more accuracy with less scanning.

In this paper, a new trace driven simulation algorithm is proposed to evaluate the bus traffic and the miss ration of the various sector cache memories, which have various sub-block sizes and block sizes and associativities and number of sets, with a single pass through an address trace. Trace-driven simulaton is usually used as a method for performance evaluation of sector cache memories, but it spends a lot of simulation time for simulating the diverse cache configurations with a long address trace. The proposed algorithm shortens the simulation time by evaluating the performance of the various sector cache configurations. which have various sub-block sizes and block sizes and associativities and number of sets , with a single pass through an address trace. Our simulation results show that the run times of the proposed simulation algorithm can be considerably reduced than those of existing simulation algorithms, when the proposed algorithm is miplemented in C language and the address traces obtained from the various sample programs are used as a input of trace-driven simulation.

In this paper a method to perform Exclusive-OR operation between two tabular type Boolean expressions is presented. The proposed method allows to solve the switching equations and the simultaneous equations in a rather direct manner, compared with Unger's method.

This paper presents a method of constructing the multiple-valued combinational logic systems(MVCLS) by decision diagram. The switching function truth table of MVCLS is transformed into canonical normal form of sum-of-products(SOP) with literals at first. Next, the canonical normal form of SOP is transfered into multiple-valued logic decision diagram(MVLDD). The selecting of variable ordering is very important in this stage. The MVLDDs are quite different from each other according to the variable ordering. Sometimes the inadequate variable ordering produces a very large size of MVLDD means the large size of circuit implementation. An algorithm for generating the proper variable ordering produce minimal MVLDD and an example shows the verity of the algorithm. The circuits are realized with T-gate acceording to the minimal MVLDD.

The techniques for the estimation of motion vector from the image sequence assume implicitly that the intensity of image is constant through the time. But this assumption can be distored by such causes as the added noises and the sub-pel motion following the sampling, and the errors can be generated on the motion estimation by the change of intensity. In this paper, we analyzed theoretically the effect of the change of intensity by the noise on the motion estimation with the white Gaussian noise. We know a fact that the signal may be fluctuated to reduce the effect of the noise and so the sampling rate have to make down. Also we confirmed the theoretically analysis through the experiments which investigated the relation between the noises and the sampling rates.

One of the ways to measure the distance in the computer vision is to use the focus and defocus. There are two methods in this way. The first method is caculating the distance from the focused images in a point (MMDFP: the method measuring the distance to the focal plane). The second method is to measure the distance from the difference of the camera parameters, in other words, the apertures of the focal planes, of two images with having the different parameters (MMDCI: the method to measure the distance by comparing two images). The problem of the existing methods in MMDFP is to decide the thresholding vaue on detecting the most optimally focused object in the defocused image. In this case, it could be solved by comparing only the error energy in 3x3 window between two images. In MMDCI, the difficulty is the influence of the deflection effect. Therefor, to minimize its influence, we utilize two differently focused images instead of different aperture images in this paper. At the first, the amount of defocusing between two images is measured through the introduction of regularization and then the distance from the camera to the objects is caculated by the new equation measuring the distance. In the results of simulation, we see the fact to be able to measure the distance from two differently defocused images, and for our approach to be robuster than the method using the different aperture in the noisy image.

In this paper, the probabilistic relations of dual morphological operations, such as dilation and erosion, closing and opening, and close- open and open-close, and the statistical properties for a continuous stationary lst order Gauss-Markov source are analyzed. The result is that the dual filters have symmetrical means and skews, and equal variances. Also, the statistics of morphological filters are very similar with those of input source, as correlation coefficient increases.

The objective of this paper is to develop an algorithm for a real-time automatic fingerprint recognition system. The algorithm employs the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) in determining the directions of ridges in fingerprint images, and utilizes statistical information in recognizing the fingerprints. The information used in fingerprint recognition is based on the dircetions along ridge curves and characteristic points such as core points and delta points. In order to find ridge directions, the algorithm applies the FFT to a small block of the size 8x8 pixels, and decides the directions by interpreting the resulted Fourier spectrum. By using the FFT, the algorithm does not require conventional preprocessing procedures such as smoothing, binarization, thinning, and restorationl. Finally, in matching two fingerprint images, the algorithm searches and compares two kinds of feature blocks, one as the blocks where the dircetions cannot be defined from the Fourier spectrum, and the other as the blocks where the changes of directions become abrupt. The proposed algorithm has been implemented on a SunSparc-2 workstation under the Open Window environment. In the experiment, the proposed algorithm has been applied to a set of fingerprint images obtained by a prism system. The result has shown that while the rate of Type II error - Incorrect recognition of two different fingerprints as the identical fingerprints - is held at 0.0%, the rate of Type I error - Incorrect recognition of two identical fingerprints as the different ones - is 2.2%.

In this paper, we propose a modified error function to improve the EBP(Error Back-Propagation) algorithm of Multi-Layer Perceptrons. Using the modified error function, the output node of MLP generates a strong error signal in the case that the output node is far from the desired value, and generates a weak error signal in the opposite case. This accelerates the learning speed of EBP algorothm in the initial stage and prevents overspecialization for training patterns in the final stage. The effectiveness of our modification is verified through the simulation of handwritten digit recognition.

A spacecraft power system can be divided into two types : DET system(Direct Energy Transfer system) and PPT system(Peak Power Tracking system). In a DET system employing the regulated bus voltage control method, the battery charger and discharger are widely used for the bus voltage regulation. The battery charger has two different modes of operation. One is the bus voltage regulation mode and the other is the charge current regulation mode. The battery discharger is employed to provide the power when the spacecraft is in the earth's shadow or the sun is eclipsed. The operating mode, charging or discharging, is selected by a power control circuit. In this paper, small-signal dynamic characteristics of battery charging and discharging system are analyzed to facilitate design of control loop for optimum performance. Control loop designs in various operating modes are discussed. Anaylses are verified through experiments.
