This study purposed to examine the participative intention for health promotion program in a university and to find out the factors to associate with the participative intention. The data were based on the self-reported questionnaires from 746 women who study in E university, and this survey performed May, 1998. This study performed to analyze the participative intention for health promotion programs and the factors associate with health promotion program using $chi^2$-test and trend test by the PC-SAS 6.12. The major findings were as follows: 1. The tendency of participative intention for health promotion programs showed that Influenza preventive program was the highest among the health promotion programs, and the next were Weight control program, Rubella preventive program, Fitness program. On the other hand, Smoking preventive program and Non-drinking program were lower than the other program. 2. The four significant factors on participative intention for health promotion programs were grade, concern for health, and behavior change experience through the health education. On the other hand, the cognitive level for health, experience for health education were not the significant factors associate with the participative intention for health promotion programs. 3. The relationship between factors and each health promotion program showed that Rubella preventive program, Influenza preventive program, Weight control program, Smoking cessation program and Non-drinking program were associated with the grade or the health concern. And Chronic diseases preventive program was associated with the grade and the concern for health. Fitness program and Sex education program were associated with the concern for health and the behavior change experience through health education.

The purpose of this study was to identify the major factors affecting performance in health promoting lifestyles in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis(CAPO) patients. The subjects for this study were 98 CAPO patients living in Pusan city. The data for this study were collected from October 15th, 1999 to January 15th, 2000 by structured questionaries. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS softwares. The results were as follows: 1. The average score of performance in the health promoting lifestyles was 2.34. The variable with the highest degree of performance was self-actualization and nutrition, whereas the one with the lowest degree was exercise. 2. In the subscale of the health promoting lifestyles, especially educational level, marital state and CAPO period, there was significant differences between demographic variables and performance in the health promoting lifestyles. 3. The activity-related affect, situational influences, self-efficacy, and perceived barriers in the behavior-specific cognitions and affect have a significant correlation with performance in the health promoting lifestyles. 4. The most important variable that affects the performance in the health promoting lifestyles was situational influences, and the self-efficacy, perceived barriers, every monthly treatment cost, duration of chronic renal failure followed in order, activity-related affect. Those six variables accounted for 38.3% among the variables in health promoting lifestyles.

As the complexity of the our environment is further complicated by advancements in industry and increase in vehicle traffic flow, the incidents of injury causing accidents are on the rise. Consequently, there is increasing emphasis on the importance of systematic and continual safety education for injury preventive behaviors. This study investigates safety related problems of elementary school students based on the PRECEDE model, proposed by Green et al.(1980 Green), to comprehensively identify the requirements of school safety education. The identified requirements were used to diagnose the current state of elementary school safety education through the analysis of multidimensional factors. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 594 sixth grade students from randomly selected 4 schools in Seoul to examine their injury preventive behaviors and to determine the educational diagnosis variables that affect it. The duration of the survey was 3 weeks starting from April 12, 1999 to May 8, 1999. A summary of the survey results are presented below; 1. Situations in which accidents have occurred were, in their order of frequency, ‘during play or sports activities within the school grounds’ was most frequent at 59.6％, ‘during play on local streets’ at 49.5％, and ‘traffic accidents’ at 41.6％. 2. Categorization of the injury preventive behavior showed that ‘not playing at high traffic flow locations such as streets and construction sites’ had the higher level of observance, while ‘wearing of helmets and joint protection devices during playing’ was least observed. 3. Considering injury preventive behaviors in relation to educational diagnosis variables indicated, for predisposing factors, lower ‘perception to injury accidents’ (p〈0.001) combined with higher ‘concerns for injury accidents’(p〈0.001), ‘practice of preventive behavior’(p〈0.001), and ‘the level of safety knowledge’(p〈0.001) resulted in significantly higher observance of injury preventive behaviors. For enabling factors, higher ‘perceived level of the school safety education’ (p〈0.001) and ‘availability of safety education resources’(p〈0.01) indicated significantly higher observance of injury preventive behaviors. For the reinforcing factor, frequent exposure to ‘safety education brochure’ (p〈0.01) and ‘audio-visual material for safety education’(p〈0.01) combined with more ‘regional safety education’ (p〈0.01), ‘home safety education’ (p〈0.01), ‘school safety education’(p〈0.001), and, ‘parents’ observance of preventive behaviors' (p〈0.001) showed significantly higher observance of injury preventive behaviors. 4. An analysis of the factors that affect injury preventive behaviors showed that the enabling factor ‘awareness of school safety education’ had the highest correlation with injury preventive behaviors followed by factors, in their order of significance, ‘practice of preventive behavior’, ‘perception to injury accidents’, ‘level of safety knowledge’, ‘parents’ observances of preventive behaviors', and ‘concerns for injury accidents.’

The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between psychosocial well-bing and health promoting lifestyle practices of university students in Korea. The subjects were 282 students of one university in Chung-ju. The data were analyzed by the SAS program using mean, frequency, t-test, ANOVA and pearson correlation coefficient. The major results were as follows: 1. The average score for psychosocial well-being and health promoting lifestyle practices were low at 55.97, 103.5. In the subcategories of health promoting lifestyle practices, the highest degree of performance was interpersonal support(2.77), and the lowest degree was health responsibility(1.49). 2. There weren't statistically significant differences for the Psychosocial well-being according to sociodemographic variables. The performance of health promoting lifestyle practices was significant different according to gender and school year. 3. The Psychosocial well-being was negatively correlated with health promoting lifestyle practices. Also it was negatively correlated with subscale of health promoting lifestyle practices except health responsibility. So, significant correlation between psychoscial well-bing and self-actualization, exercise, nutrition, interpersonal support, stress management was found. Based upon this results, health promoting behavior will be clues for developing a interventional programs and strategies for the health promoting lifestyle practices in university students

The purpose of this research was to find out plans to promote the fulfillment of the breast self-examination and breast cancer screening, which is preventive health behavior about women's having breast cancer exam in some part of our country with searching for the primary causes which have an effect on their fulfillment. The subjects of the study were 540 literate volunteers who were of age from 20 to 69 and who visited 8 health centers in Taegu. The survey research was made through questionares in the 8 health centers in Taegu from the 15th to the 30th of September, 1998. Based on Becker's health belief model asking medical staff's opinions with bibliographies, the major findings from the survey was as follow. The fulfillment rate of the breast self-examination and the breast cancer screening was 37.8％(204 subjects), 27.6％ (149 subjects) each. Getting breast self-exam varied significantly depending on subject's age, income of family, religion, occupation and the number of children. As far as the breast cancer screening was concerned, there was remarkably significant difference in accordance with their age, marital status, religion, occupation, income of family, the number of children, ways of nursing and parturition age of the first baby. The subjects in their forties accounted for the highest rate. Based on the fulfillment of the breast self-examination and the breast cancer screening, the average points of all the variables presented from the health belief as well as the points of the susceptibility, seriousness, benefits, knowledge and level of health concern of interest in health were significantly higher than the points of non-fulfillment of them in the statistical analysis whereas the barriers was lower than them. In consequence of the multiple-logistic regression analysis putting the breast self-examination and the breast cancer screening in dependent variables, occupation, knowledge, seriousness, benefits, barriers and cues to action had significant effects on breast self-examination against breast cancer. Looking more attainments, thinking diseases more seriously, feeling more usefulness and there being any patient around with breast cancer led to the higher rate of the breast self-examination against it. On the other hand, feeling more impedition as well as housewives caused the lower rate of it. The breast cancer screening was significantly affected by age, sensitivity, usefulness, impedition and behavior momentum as well. The cases who are older, feeling more sensitivity against breast cancer, more usefulness of the examination and where any patient around, the fulfillment rate was higher. Contrarily the more impedition they felt, the lower the fulfillment rate was. Accordingly, the study of the causes, which have significant effects on the fulfillment of the self-examination and the breast cancer screening in order to find it in an early stage, and the development of health education programs as well as proper education for public health through carrying on campaigns and stepping up public relations must be indispensable.

본 연구는 초등학교 6학년 아동을 대상으로 비만상태에 따른 체형만족도와 체형존중감과의 관계를 알아보기 위하여 1999년 5월 1일부터 5월31일까지 제천시 5개 초등학교 6학년 아동 669명을 대상으로 신체계측 자료와 설문지 조사를 이용하여 자료수집을 하였으며 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 비만상태는 전체의 14.0%, 남자의 21.4%, 여자의 6.6%가 비만이었으며, 평균체중은 남자가 41.09kg(표준편차, 9.102), 여자가 39.99kg(표준편차, 7.743)이었고 평균신장은 남자가 147.51cm(표준편차, 7.122), 여자가 149.13cm (표준편차, 6.852)이었다. 2. 비만상태에 따른 체형만족도는 전체($chi^2$=110.31, p= .000), 남($chi^2$=99.97, p= .000), 여 ($chi^2$=62.23, p= .000) 모두 유의한 차이가 있었다. 전체에서는 저체중군의 38.8%, 정상체중군의 32.0%, 과 체중군의 24.29%, 비만군의 10.6%가 체형에 대해 만족하였고, 남자에서는 저체중군의 25.7%, 정상체중군의 28.8%, 과체중군의 31.7%, 비만군의 12.5%가 체형에 대해 만족하였으며, 여자에서는 저체중군의 42.3%, 정상체중군의 23.7%, 과체중군의 12.0%, 비만군의 4.5%가 체형에 대해 만족하였다. 3. 비만상태에 따른 체형존중감은 전체(F=8.634, p= .000), 남(F=11.738, p= .000), 여 (F=4.502, p= .004) 모두 유의한 차이가 있었다. 평균 체형존중감 점수는 전체에서 정상체중군이 12.764점(표준편차 5.344)으로 가장 높았고 비만군이 9.840점(표준편차 4.638)로 가장 낮았으며, 남자에서는 과체중군이 14.780점(표준편차 4.601), 여자에서는 저체중군이 12.284점(표준편차 4.604)으로 체형존중감이 가장 높았고, 남(평균 10.166점, 표준편차 4.246), 여(평균 8.772점, 표준편차 5.723) 모두 비만군에서 체형존중감이 가장 낮았다. 4. 비만도와 체형만족도 및 체형존중감과의 상관관계는 비만도와 체형만족도(r= -.2081, p= .000), 비만도와 체형존중감(r= -.2250, p= .000)은 유의한 역상관관계를 나타내어 비만도가 높을수록 체형만족도와 체형존중감이 낮았다. 5. 일반적 특성에 따른 비만상태는 전체에서는 성별($chi^2$=88.136, p=.000), 체형에 대한 인식($chi^2$=242.371, p= .000)에서, 남자에서는 부의 체형($chi^2$=15.11, p= .019), 체형에 대한 인식($chi^2$=138.95, p= .000)에서, 여자에서는 모의 학력($chi^2$=19.46, p= .022), 체형에 대한 인식($chi^2$=143.35, p= .000)에서 유의한 차이가 있었다. 전체에서 성별은 남자에서 비만은 21.4%, 여자에서 비만은 6.6%로 남자가 비만인 경우가 더 많았고, 체형에 대한 인식은 자신의 체형이 말랐다고 인식하는 경우 비만은 0.7%, 보통이라고 인식하는 경우 비만은 9.3%, 비만하다고 인식하는 경우 비만은 64.6%로 나타났다. 남자에서 부의 체형이 마른 경우 실제 비만인 학생은 21.20%, 보통인 경우 19.1%, 비만인 경우 42.9%로 나타났고, 자신의 체형에 대한 인식은 체형이 말랐다고 인식하는 경우 비만은 1.3%, 보통이라고 인식하는 경우 비만은 16.6%, 비만이라고 인식하는 경우 비만은 83.4% 이었다. 여자에서 모의 학력이 초등졸에서는 실제 비만은 없었고 중졸에서는 비만이 11.1%, 고졸에서는 4.9%, 대졸이상에서는 13.2%로 나타났고, 체형에 대한 인식에서는 말랐다고 인식하는 경우 실제 비만은 없었고, 보통이라고 인식한 경우 비만은 2.6%, 비만하다고 인식한 경우 비만은 43.3% 이었다.

The purpose of this study was to identify the factors that affected to physical functions, activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs). The subjects for this study, 236 persons, 65 years and over, who were living at rural area in Chun-Cheon city. This survey was carried out from march 3rd to April 25th, 1998. The data was analysed by using SPSS PC+ program. The results were as follows. 1.The variables that were related to the conditions of physical functions were as follows; age, sex, educational level among the general characteristics; raising ways of money, monthly using money for life, states of pocket money, obtaining method of pocket money, state of weight, problems in mind, whether or not chronic illness among socio ㆍeconoㆍphysical conditions; the level of satisfactions in life, subjective condition of health among the subjective thinking ; controlling state in smoking and drinking of alcohol among the lifestyles for promoting health. But the variables for medical utilization were not related to the level of physical function. 2. The variables that were associated with the condition of ADLs were as follows; age among the general characteristics; monthly using money for life, working amount among the socioㆍeconoㆍphysical conditions; subjective conditions of health among the subjective thinking. But The variables for medical utilization, lifestyle for promoting health were irrelevant to the conditions of ADLs. 3. The variables that were related to the conditions of IADLs were as follows; age, educational level among the general characteristics; raising ways of money, monthly using money for life, resident type in the household, procurement method of pocket money, level of weight, problems in mind, wether or not chronic illness among socioㆍeconoㆍphysical condition; regularity of health checking among lifestyles for promoting health; kinds of utilizing medical agent among the variables about utilization patterns of medical agencies; subjective condition of health among the subjective thinking In this study, in the aged there were related factors of physical and life functions, were age, working amount, subjective condition of health.

The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data for establishing school education environment protection measures, on the basis of comparing and analyzing the realities and students' recognition degree of the environment and hygiene around the middle and high schools located in the rural areas. These study data were investigated by the self-administered questionnaires, taking as subject the 805 students in the middle and high schools located rural areas. And the results were as follows: First, as the result of having investigated the distribution degree of harmful environment within the purification zone around schools, it was found out that students responded: within the purification zone around the middle school, there were cartoon rooms (46.2％), electronic game rooms (45.9％), and singing rooms (45.0％). within the purification zone around the high school, there were electronic game rooms (46.3％), singing rooms (42.3％), billiard halls (41.4％), PC rooms (40.1 ％), and Soju-room (35.2％). Secondly, as having analyzed student's recognition degree of the harmful environment around the school, it was found out that middle school students responded that sexual utensils-treating shops (3.74 points) were most harmful, and next corrupted bathhouses (3.52 points), and Soju-room (3.47 points), and high school students also responded relating to harmfulness in a similar sequence. Thirdly, in case of students' recognition degree of the harmful environment around the school according to general characteristics, 1) girl students had a higher ratio of recognition that the environment around the school was harmful than boy students (p〈0.001). 2) groups of students whose living standard was high had a higher ratio of recognition that the environment around the school was harmful than groups of students whose living standard was low (p〈0.05). 3) groups of students whose school was located near the park or the residential street had a higher degree of recognition that the environment around the school was harmful than groups of students whose school was located near the factory or the shopping area (p〈0.01). 4) groups of students whose school was located near the park or the residential street had a higher degree of recognition that the environment around the school was harmful than groups of students whose school was located near the amusement area or the shopping area (p〈0.05). Fourthly, 1) relating to the harmful shops where they experienced most highly the behavior of drinking and smoking, middle school students responded that they did so in the electronic game room (22.5％) and high school students did so in the singing room (31.4％), and high school students had a very high experience ratio of drinking and smoking, compared with middle school students (p〈0.001). 2) relating to the harmful shops where they could get in contact with lewd articles, both of middle school students (5.3％) and high school students (8.3％) responded that they could do so in the video room. 3) relating to the harmful shops where they experienced unsound opposite sex acquaintance, both of middle school students (5.8％) and high school students (16.6％) responded that they did so most highly in hotels, and high school students had a remarkably high experience ratio of unsound opposite sex acquaintance, compared with middle school students (p〈0.05). 4) relating to the harmful shops where they experienced violence, middle school students responded that they did so in the electronic game room (14.0％) and then in the singing room (3.7％), and high school students responded that they did so in the electronic game room (9.3％), the nightclub (4.6％), Soju-room (4.1 ％), and high school students had a remarkably high experience ratio of violence, compared with middle school students (p〈0.05). 5) relating to the harmful places where they experienced drugs both of middle school students (0.8％) and high school students (2.4％) responded that they did so in the hotels. Fifthly, when going to the harmful shops, students had the experience of being guided and regulated roughly 1 time - 2 times, and middle school students (16.4％) and high school students (16.7％) had almost similar experience ratios of being guided and regulated. Conclusively, there was a limit in controlling the environment and purification zone only by legal regulations and institutional controls, the self-control purification effort for the school and the surrounding environment was required greatly, in order to protect students from harmful environment. In addition, the constant study to establish the educational environment purification measures must be carried out.

The study of home injury and injury prevention has been a neglected area of research and practice. This study has the following purposes: 1) to describe the pattern of home injuries; 2) to analyze the differences in injuries by social characteristics; and 3) to compare the impact of safety structure and action. The data were collected by person-to-person interviews with 450 residents living in Wonju area. The statistical methods used for the analysis were $\chi$2-test and multiple logistic regression. The results are as follows: 1) Whether or not a certain injury has occurred varies by household type. The elderly household reported more injuries than other types of household. 2) Using logistic regression method, we found that safety-related behavioral habit was statistically significant in predicting injury occurrence. However, residence type was not a statistically significant variable. This indicates that cognitive change strategy is more important than structural change strategy.

With the increasing number of women involved in social activities, beauty industry has flourished. More women than ever before are concerned about make-up, hair care, skin care, and weight control, etc. With the success and commercialization of beauty industry, unconfirmed beauty care services have been introduced in the market. However, the health hazard from diverse beauty care services has not been systematically addressed. This study has the following two purposes: 1) to examine the utilization pattern of diverse beauty care services; and 2) to examine the health hazard from beauty care services. For this study, two major universities located in Seoul area were selected. While 450 female college students were selected from one women's university, the other 450 were from mixed university. Using survey questionnaire, we interviewed with 900 female college students. The results are as follows: As for the beauty care patterns, makeup accounted for 78.6％, Skin care 49.5％, weight/body control 32.0％, hair care 81.5％, and cosmetic operation 14.9％, indicating significant high rates of makeup(x2=9.215, p=0.002) and hair care(x2=4.435, p=0.035) at both mixed and women's universities. The health hazard was measured using four questions. The past studies have not paid special attention to the methodological issue of how to ask health hazard. Depending on how to ask health hazard, the percentage of respondents reporting health problems varied. When the respondents were asked whether or not they had suffered health problems for a short period, over 60％ of respondents reported health problems; when they were asked in other ways-1) whether or not they had suffered health problems for a long period, 2) whether or not they had suffered whole body problems, 3) whether or not they had permanent traces on skin due to beauty care activities-, the percentage of respondents reporting health problems dropped substantially to less than 10％, This finding indicates the importance of ‘words’ used in questions. The relationships between health problems and utilization of beauty care services were examined, using χ2 test or t test. We found that there was a significant relationship between health problem and beauty care.
