  • For analyzing systems of multi-variate nonlinear equations, the linearized modelling techniques are elaborated. The technique applies Newton-Raphson iteration, partial differentiation and matrix operation providing solvable solutions to complicated problems. Practical application examples are given in; determining the zero point of functions, determining maximum (or minimum) point of functions, nonlinear regression analysis, and solving complex co-efficient polynomials. Merits and demerits of linearized modelling techniques are also discussed.

  • A simple algorithm for discriminating voiced sounds in a speech is proposed. In addition to low-frequency energy and zero-crossing rate (ZCR), both of which have been widely used in the past for identifying voiced sounds, the proposed algorithm incorporates pitch variation to improve the discrimination rate. Based on TIMIT corpus, evaluation result shows an improvement of 13% in the discrimination of voiced phonemes over that of the traditional algorithm using only energy and ZCR.

  • This paper discusses the regulator problem of minimizing the input energy for the multi-input linear time-invariant discrete-time system with the zero terminal state. The optimal inputs are expressed by the state feedback form and they are made up of three phases. The optimal feedback gains are independent of the initial state.

  • A passive energy recovery snubber for high-power-factor boost rectifier, in which the main switch is implemented with a MOSFET, is described in terms of the equivalent circuits that are operational during turn-on and turn-off sequences. The main switch combined with proposed snubber can be turned on with zero current and turned off at limited voltage stress. The high-power-factor boost rectifier with proposed snubber is implemented, and the experimental results are presented to confirm the validity of proposed snubber.

  • A 9.6 dB gain is observed at 1310 nm in a 5.0 cm bismuth-doped silica fiber. A launched pump power of 100 mW was obtained using an 810-nm laser diode. We demonstrated the simultaneous optical amplification at two wavelengths near second telecommunication windows, which is the range of zero-dispersion for silica fibers.

  • The forecasted energy shortage tends to encourage to develop the next generation energy to countermove the energy problems and the climatic change all over the world. Korean government is pushing ahead with the policy for 'Low Carbon Green Growth' to deal with climate changes and to overcome energy problems. And many studies for low carbon green city or zero carbon city have been progressed. In this study, energy plants and energy scenarios are selected by energy supply suited features of city at city plan. The method to evaluate energy scenario can be proposed to apply various energy plants for energy demand on city planning step and evaluation method can be systematized to be used by users. Also the calculated values are changed into index for comparison according to each energy scenario.

  • Countries worldwide are striving to find new sources of sustainable energy without carbon emission due to the increasing impact of global warming. With the advancement of the fourth industrial revolution on a global scale, there has been a substantial rise in energy demand. Simultaneously, there is a growing emphasis on utilizing energy sources with minimal or zero carbon content to ensure a stable power supply while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In this comprehensive overview, a comparative analysis of carbon reduction policies of government was conducted. Based on international carbon neutrality scenarios and the presence of remaining thermal power generation, it can be categorized into two types: "Rapid" and "Safety". For the domestic scenario, the projected power demand and current greenhouse gas emissions in alignment with "The 10th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand" was examined. Considering all these factors, an overview of the current status of carbon neutrality technologies by focusing on the energy sector, encompassing transitions, hydrogen, transportation and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) was offered followed by summarization of key technological trends and government-driven policies. Furthermore, the central aspects of the domestic carbon reduction strategy were proposed by taking account of current mega trends in the energy sector which are highlighted in international scenario analyses.
