Dispersion and Nonlinear Properties of Elliptical Air Hole Photonic Crystal Fiber

  • The effect of eccentricity on dispersion and nonlinear properties of a photonic crystal fiber having elliptical air holes is investigated using a fully vectorial effective index method. It is found that the effective refractive index increases with increase of eccentricity. The dependence of dispersion and nonlinear properties of the PCF on the eccentricity of the air hole is investigated. It is revealed that eccentricity of the air hole affects the zero dispersion wavelength. Further, the nonlinear properties such as mode field area, nonlinear coefficient and self phase modulation of the Photonic crystal fibers are analyzed. The mode field area increases and the nonlinear coefficient decreases with increase in eccentricity. The variation of the self phase modulation with elliptical air hole is also discussed.

천이주파수 변조를 이용한 가시광통신의 조명제어 (Illumination Control in Visible Light Communication Using Transition Frequency Modulation)

  • In this study, we utilized the duty factor of the transition frequency modulation (TFM) for the illumination control of the light emitting diode (LED) light in visible light communication (VLC). The average optical power is linearly proportional to the duty factor in TFM waveforms. We used the transition frequencies of Na=5 and Nb=1 for the high and the low bits, respectively, of the non-return-to-zero (NRZ) data in the VLC transmitter. A resistor and capacitor high-pass filter (HPF) was used in the VLC receiver to eliminate the 120 Hz optical noise from adjacent lighting lamps and the spikes at the HPF output were used to recover NRZ data from the TFM waveform. In experiments, the illumination of the LED light was controlled in the range of 25-90% of the constant-wave optical power by changing the duty factor of the TFM waveforms.

  • This paper proposes a soft switching boost converter with an auxiliary resonant circuit. The auxiliary resonant circuit is added to a general boost converter and that is composed of one switch, one diode, one inductor and two capacitors. The resonant network helps the main switch to operate with a zero voltage switching(ZVS) and auxiliary switch also operates under the zero voltage and zero current conditions. The soft switching range is extended by the auxiliary switch and it is possible to control the proposed converter with a pulse width modulation(PWM). The ZVS and ZCS techniques make switching losses decreased and efficiency of the system improved. A theoretical analysis is verified through the simulation and experiment.

  • This study proposes a suppression of zero sequence current (ZSC), which is caused by zero sequence voltage (ZSV) for a dual two-level inverter with single DC bus. Large output voltages enable the dual inverter with single DC bus to improve a system efficiency compared with single inverter. However, the structure of dual inverter with single DC bus inevitably generates ZSC, which reduces the system efficiency and causes a current ripple. ZSV is also produced by dead time, and its magnitude is determined by the DC bus and current direction. This study presents a novel space vector modulation method that allows the instantaneous suppression of ZSC. Based on a condition where a switching period is twice a sampling (control) period, the proposed control method is implemented by injecting the offset voltage at the primary inverter. This offset voltage is injected in half of the switching period to suppress the ZSC. Simulation and experiments are used to compare the proposed and conventional methods to determine the ZSC suppression performance.

  • This paper presents a novel topological prototype of voltage source series quasi-resonant zero current soft-switching pulse frequency modulated dc-dc power converter circuit using IGBTs which incorporates a high-frequency flyback transformer link. Its steady-state operating principle is described on the basis of simulation analysis, along with the open loop controlled power regulation characteristics of the multi-functional coupled inductors linked dc-dc power converter operating under a principle of zero current soft switching commutation.

  • A new three phase three-level Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Switched Voltage Source (SVS) inverter with zero neutral point potential is proposed. The major advantage is that the peak value of the phase output voltage is twice as high as that of the conventional neutral-point-clamped (NPC) PWM inverter. Furthermore, three-level waveforms of the proposed inverter can be achieved without switch voltage unbalance problem. Since the average neutral point potential of the proposed inverter is zero, the common ground between input stage and output stage is possible. The proposed inverter is verified by experimental results based on a laboratory prototype.

  • This paper proposes a new zero-current transition (ZCT) pulse-width modulation (PWM) switch cell that overcomes the limitations of the conventional ZCT converters. The proposed ZCT cell provides zero-current-switching (ZCS) condition for the main switch and the auxiliary switch. The conduction loss and current stress of the main switch are minimized, since the circulating current for the soft switching does not flow through the main switch. The proposed ZCT PWM switch cell is suitable for the high power applications employing IGBTs. Design guidelines with a design example are described and verified by experimental results from the 1 kW prototype boost converter operating at 70kHz.

  • 본 논문에서는 일정한 주파수로 동작하는 영전압 스위칭 방식의 PWM 컨버터를 제안하였다. 제안된 컨버터에서 컨버터의 주스위치는 항상 영전압에서 스위칭을 하며, 보조 스위치는 항상 소프트 스위칭을 한다. 또한, 컨버터 스위치의 전압 및 전류 스트레스는 기존의 PWM 컨버터와 같이 적다. 제안된 컨버터는 배터리 컨버터로 적용하기 위하여 buck형 컨버터로 구현하였다. 컨버터는 스위칭 특성은 실험적으로 확인하였다.

Optimal Design Methodology of Zero-Voltage-Switching Full-Bridge Pulse Width Modulated Converter for Server Power Supplies Based on Self-driven Synchronous Rectifier Performance

  • In this paper, high-efficiency design methodology of a zero-voltage-switching full-bridge (ZVS-FB) pulse width modulation (PWM) converter for server-computer power supply is discussed based on self-driven synchronous rectifier (SR) performance. The design approach focuses on rectifier conduction loss on the secondary side because of high output current application. Various-number parallel-connected SRs are evaluated to reduce high conduction loss. For this approach, the reliability of gate control signals produced from a self-driver is analyzed in detail to determine whether the converter achieves high efficiency. A laboratory prototype that operates at 80 kHz and rated 1 kW/12 V is built for various-number parallel combination of SRs to verify the proposed theoretical analysis and evaluations. Measurement results show that the best efficiency of the converter is 95.16%.

  • 본 논문에서는 3-Level NPC(Neutral Point Clamped) 인버터에서 ZDPWM(Zero Dead Time Pulse Width Modulation) 기법에 대해서 제안한다. 3-Level NPC 인버터에서 기존 PWM 기법은 각 스위치는 서로 상보적인 동작을 수행하고, 반도체 스위칭 소자 특성상 Rise Time과 Fall Time의 시간차이로 인하여 단락사고를 방지하기 위해 스위칭 신호의 Rising Edge에 데드타임을 인가하여 단락을 방지한다. 그러나 이러한 데드타임은 지령 스위칭 신호와 실제 스위칭 신호의 오차로 인하여 출력 전압 및 전류에 왜곡이 발생하고, 이러한 왜곡으로 인하여 시스템의 오작동 및 직류링크단 전압의 불평형의 원인이 된다. 제안하는 PWM기법은 지령전압과 출력전류의 위상에 따라 영역을 나눈 후 전류의 방향에 따라 옵셋 전압을 생성하여 새로운 지령전압을 만들어 각 스위치에 스위칭 신호를 인가한다. 제안한 기법에 타당성을 증명하기 위해 시뮬레이션을 통해 검증하였다.
