  • In this paper, conventional z-pinning technology which can be used to reinforce inter-laminar property of laminated composites is introduced and new z-pinning technique recently proposed by author is also introduced. On some trial specimens manufactured by the new z-pinning technique, the low-velocity impact test was performed and impact damage area was measured. Similar impact test was performed on normal composite laminate specimens and those test results were compared to each other. Consequently, it can be seen that the new z-pinning technique is more useful in applying to mass production of z-pinned composite laminate structures than the conventional techniques and some clear improvement on impact resistance of z-pinned composite laminates manufactured by the new z-pinning technique is observed.

  • It is very important for a navigator on bridge to know the maneuverability of his ship sufficiently at sea. Generally, the data of a turning circle test have long been used to study and evaluate the maneuverability of a ship. But referring only the data of the turning circle test method, he can not evaluate his ship's maneuvering characteristics sufficiently. So nowaday the test method added Z test to turning circle test for more detail references is considered to be desirable. In this paper, the authors performed PAL test and Z test together in order to study the maneuverability of M. S.Pusan 403, training ship of the National Fisheries University of Pusan. According to the results of PAL test, the rudder effect in port rudder angle of the M. S. Pusan 403 was found to be more effective than that in starboard one, because her changing amounts of angular velocity, turning radius and tangent speed in port rudder angles were found to be larger than those of them in starboard rudder one in unsymmetry. The relation between her drift angle(.8) and rudder angle (0) was found to be changing with .8=0.640 in direct proportion. As it appeared that her calculated K'-values were smaller than the standard K'-values of different kinds of ships in accordance with her Z test, her turning ability was found to be lower. The running distance of a turn in her 10$^{\circ}$ Z test was about 8.3 times her own length and was found not to be exceeded the standard maneuvering distance, therefore she was considered to have good maneuverabilities synthetically.

  • Many epidemiological studies investigate whether an association exists between a binary risk factor X and a binary response variable Y. They analyse whether an observed association between X and Y persists when the level of another factor Z that might influence the association is controlled. This involves testing conditional independence of X and Y controlling for Z. The Mantel-Haenszel test is most widely used to test conditional independence for sparse tables. But if the association between X and Y varies along the levels of Z, Mantel-Haenszel test has a low power problem. In this study, we propose an alternative test procedure which overcomes the low power problem in that case. We find out the null distribution of the alternative test statistic and compare its performance with the Mantel-Haenszel test by simulation.

  • The manoeuvrabilities of a ship are decided by the values of her manoeuvring indices. The manoeuvring indices consist of two kinds: indices K and T. The former decides a ship's turning ability and the latter, the length of time delay to a steady turning motion after her rudder has finished the turn of an ordered angle. In this paper, the author figured out the values of the manoeuvring indices of the m. s. 'SAEBADA' (GT: 2,275,7 ton), the training ship of tile National Fisheries University of Busan through her Z test and analyzed these values and the other data which were obtained from her Z test to study her manoeuvrabilities. The results of]tamed are summarized as follows: 1. The manoeuvring indices K' of the m. s. 'SAEBADA' were $1.052(at\;10{\circ}\;Z\;test)\;0.925(at\;20{\circ}\;Z\;test)\;and\;0.877(at\;30{\circ}\;Z\;test)$. Her manoeuvring indices $0.815(at\;10{\circ}\;Z\;test)\;0.502(at\;20{\circ}\;Z\;test)\;and\;0.441(at\;30{\circ}\;Z\;test)$. Her above calculated values K', T' showed that her obeying ability to the turn of her rudder was more increased when her rudder was used to large angle than to small angle, but on the other hand in this case her turning ability was slightly reduced. 2. As it appeared that the calculated K'-values of the m.s. 'SAEBADA' were slightly smaller than the standard K'-values of the fishing boats similar in length, and her overshoot angles at her Z test were greater than other general ships, her turning ability was found to t]e slightly lower. 3. When the m. s. 'SAEBADA' took a turn at her $10^{\circ}\;Z$ test, running distance was about 8.6 times her own length and didn't exceed the standard manoeuvrability distance, 5 to 11 times general ships' own length, therefore she was considered to have a good manoeuvrability synthetically.

  • The aim of this study was to compare the mechanical properties of high viscosity bulk-fill resin composites, $Filtek^{TM}$ Bulk Fill Posterior Restorative (FBF) and $Tetric^{(R)}$ N-Ceram Bulk Fill (TBF), with conventional composite ($Filtek^{TM}$ Z-350 XT, Z-350). The Vickers hardness test which indicates the degree of conversion was performed and the dye penetration test was performed to measure the microleakage which indicates polymerization shrinkage amount. To minimize experimental error, the standardized 3D-printed molds and the bovine teeth were used. Obtained data were analyzed by the Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney test with the confidence interval of 95%. In the microhardness test within 1 hour of polymerization, lower surface of FBF and TBF showed significantly lower value than that of Z-350 (p < 0.05). But after 24 hours, the microhardness of FBF had increased and showed no significant difference with Z-350 (p > 0.05). In top and 2 mm depth surface, mean microhardness values were in the following order: Z-350 > FBF > TBF (p < 0.05). The mean microleakage value of TBF was significantly lower than others (p < 0.05). For clinical application of bulk-fill resin composites, caution for applying masticatory forces during 24 hours after polymerization is advised and further studies to decrease microleakage should be conducted.

  • Recently the authors had proposed the z-pinning patch concept to simply manufacture z-pinned composite structures at industrial production site and manufactured composite single-lap shear joint specimens using the concept. Through static tensile test on the specimens they had obtained 54~68% improvement of the joint strength. As a sequential study of it, in this study, fatigue test has performed to measure an improvement of joint strength under cyclic loading. The z-pin's material is stainless steel and its surface was specially machined into zagged shapes and chemically corroded to increase the connection force with composite materials. Approximately 98~125% improvement of the joint strength under cyclic loading was obtained.

  • The aim of this study was to develop a method for measuring the slumping resistance of resin composites and to relate it to the rheological characteristics. Five commercial hybrid composites (Z100. Z250. DenFil, Tetric Ceram. ClearFil) and a nanofill composite (Z350) were used to make disc-shaped specimens of 2 mm thickness. An aluminum mold with square shaped cutting surface was pressed onto the composite discs to make standardized imprints. The imprints were light-cured either immediately (non-slumped) or after waiting for 3 minutes at $25^{\circ}C$ (slumped). White stone replicas were made and then scanned for topography using a laser 3-D profilometer. Slumping resistance index (SRI) was defined as the ratio of the groove depth of the slumped specimen to that of the non-slumped specimen. The pre-cure viscoelasticity of each composite was evaluated by an oscillatory shear test and normal stress was measured by a squeeze test using a rheometer. Flow test was also performed using a flow tester. Correlation analysis was performed to investigate the relationship between the viscoelastic properties and the SRI. SRI varied between the six materials (Z100 < DenFil < Z250 < ClearFil < Tetric Ceram < Z350). The SRI was strongly correlated with the viscous (loss) shear modulus G' but not with the loss tangent. Also. slumping resistance was more closely related to the resistance to shear flow than to the normal stress. Slumping tendency could be quantified using the imprint method and SRI. The index may be applicable to evaluate the clinical handling characteristics of composites.

  • This study examined the effects of balance taping therapy on improving knee pain and the obstacles to daily activity in rural elderly women. The research design was a quasi-experimental research using a non-equivalent control group pre-test and post-test design. The data were collected from January 19th to April 14th, 2017. The research subjects included female elderly over 65 years old who visited 12 senior centers located at Y city in rural areas. The participants were composed of 26 people in the experimental group and 28 people in the control group. Data were collected before and 24 hours after balance taping therapy, and the pain and obstacles to daily activity were measured. The collected data were analyzed using the PASW Statistics 23 Program, which included a $X^2-test$, Shapiro-Wilk test, and Mann-Whitney U test. After the intervention, significant differences were observed in the knee pain (Z=-6.658, p<.001) and obstacles to daily activity (Z=-3.466, p=.001). With regard to lower domain variables of the obstacles to daily activity, significant differences in standing up (Z=-2.860, p=.004), daily activity (Z=-2.629, p=.009), walking (Z=-3.868, p<.001), and dressing up (Z=-2.049, p=.040) were observed between the two groups. On the other hand, there were no significant differences in grip (Z=-.542, p=.588) and arm stretching (Z=-.416, p=.678). In conclusion, applying balance taping to rural elderly women clearly decreases the level of knee pain, reduces the obstacles to daily activity, and improves their quality of life.

  • Two logic transformations, De Morgan and re-substitution, are sufficient to convert a unate gate network (UGN) to a more general balanced inversion parity (BIP) network. Circuit classes of interest are discussed in detail. We prove that De Morgan and re-substitution transformations are test-set preserving for path delay faults. Using the results of this paper, we can easily show that a high-level test set for a function z that detects all path delay faults in any UGN realizing z also detects all path delay faults in any BIP realization of z.
