Hydrogen Permeance of Ce1-xYxO2-δ Membranes According to Yttrium Content

  • Porous ceramic membranes consisting of $Ce_{1-x}Y_xO_{2-{\delta}}$ were developed for hydrogen permeation tests. Various amounts (x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2) of yttrium were doped to ceria to study the effect of yttrium doping on ceria membranes on various properties, including hydrogen permeability. $Ce_{1-x}Y_xO_{2-{\delta}}$ powder was synthesized by the sol-gel method. These membranes were fabricated by pressing and sintering at $1300^{\circ}C$ for 6 h. As the amount of yttrium increased, the grain size of the membrane decreased. Hydrogen permeability was improved as the yttrium content increased. Selective permeability of hydrogen compared to CO is explained by electric conductivity. As the temperature rose, both the hydrogen perm-selectivity and electric conductivity on $Ce_{0.8}Y_{0.2}O_{1.9}$ improved.

Yttrium-doped and Conductive Polymer-Coated High Nickel Layered Cathode Material with Enhanced Structural Stability

  • In this study, high nickel layered LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries were modified by yttrium doping and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) coating. The effects of yttrium doping and PEDOT:PSS coating on the structural and electrochemical properties of the LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 cathode material were investigated and compared. The substitution of nickel with an electrochemically inert yttrium was confirmed to be successful in stabilizing the layered structure framework. Moreover, coating the surfaces of the LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 particles with a conductive polymer, PEDOT:PSS, improved the capacity retention, thermal stability, and impedance of the cathode material by increasing its ionic and electric conductivities.

이트륨 옥살레이트의 반응성 결정화 및 열분해 특성 연구

  • 이트륨 옥살레이트 결정화에 있어서 반응물의 농도, 반응 온도, 반응물의 주입속도 변화등의 반응조건(reaction condition)의 변화와 반응기 내에서의 교반속도와 같은 hydrodynamic condition의 변화가 생성된 옥살레이트 결정의 입자크기, 결정형태등에 미치는 영향을 체계적으로 관찰하였다. 그리고 agglomeration의 영향에 의한 particle의 크기변화에 있어 생성물의 과포화는 agglomerates를 결정 짓는 가장 중요한 변수이다. 또한 반응성 결정화에 의해서 얻어진 Yttrium Oxalate가 온도 변화에 따라서 Yttrium Oxide로 열분해되는 온도구간과 결정구조의 변화 및 분자 구조의 변화를 관찰하여 최종의 Yttrium Oxide가 생성되는 것을 확인하였다.

  • YIG 전구체 분말은 요소의 열분해반응을 이용한 균일침전법에 의해서 질산염으로부터 제조하였다. 침전은 철이온이 먼저 침전한 후 이트륨이온이 침전하는 과정으로 이루어졌다. YGI전구체 분말은 철산화물과 비정질로 구성되어 있으며 그 분말의 대략적인 화학식은 2.5Fe2O3.Y3(OH)9-2x(CO3)x.nH2O로 되어있다. YIG 전구체 분말의 열분해과정은 dehydration, 철산화물의 recrystallization, yttrium carbonate 및 yttrium oxide의 형성과 고상반응등 여러단계로 구성되어 있다. 열처리온도가 증가함에 따라 Y2O3와 Fe2O3의 고상반응에 의해 YFeO3 intermediate을 경유해서 YIG상이 형성됨을 확인하였다. 단일상의 YIG는 120$0^{\circ}C$에서 6시간 공기중에서 소성함에 의해서 얻을 수 있었다.

Characterization of Spray-Dried Yttrium Aluminum Garnet Powder

  • Yttrium aluminum garnet(YAG) powders were synthesized by spray-drying of the hydroxides coprecipitated from a mixture of aqueous solutions of $Al(NO_3)_3.9H_2O \;and\; Y(NO_3)_3.6H_2O$ Phase formation in the powders during heat treatments and their sintering charactristics were investigated. In the powder obtained by washing the hydroxides before spray-drying, a metastable yttrium aluminum hexagonal (YAH) phase was first crystallized and then transformed into YAG as temperature was increased. The formation of YAH was attributed to a deviation in compositions of the particles from the starting composition of YAG. However, the powder prepared without washing step contained a stable yttrium aluminum monoclinic(YAM) phase in addition to YAG due to a large deviation from the starting composition. A powder compact of a single phase YAG was pressureless-sintered for 4 hrs at $1700^{\circ}C$ and the density was 93% of the theoretical density.

  • YIG precursor powder was obtained by homogeneous precipitation in chloride salt solution by thermal decom-position of urea. It was found that ferric ions precipitated prior to yttrium ions. The precipitate was minute and spherical in shape. The precipitate formed consisted of the mixture of amorphous and ferric oxyhydroxide. Crystallization of YIG was proceeded by solid state reaction of intermediate YFeO3 and Fe2O3 in the temperature range of 85$0^{\circ}C$ to 140$0^{\circ}C$. Single phase of YIG was obtained by heat-treatment of the powder at 140$0^{\circ}C$ for 6 hrs in air. The powder calcined was molded into pellets and sintered in air. The maximum density of 4,92 g/cm3(95.1% of theoretical density) was obtainable for the pellet sintered at 145$0^{\circ}C$ using the powder calcined at 90$0^{\circ}C$.

  • Yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) thin films were prepared by the electrochemical vapor deposition (EVD) method on the porous Al2O3 substrates. Y2O3 mol% of thin film was linearly increased with yttrium mole fraction of vapor phase. As yttrium mole fraction(Zyc13=0.18) increased dense and faceted thin films were enhanced. However as the yttrium mole fraction (Zyc13=0.04) decreased porous thin films with monoclinnic phase prevailed. With increasing pressure difference of substrate sides penetration depth decreased porosity and amount of monoclinic phase in the films increased.

  • Variations with structural and electrical properties of Yttrium added PZT thin films were observed and measured respectively. Area of rosette was increased by Yttrium added and shapes of hysteresis curves were changed to slim type. $Y^{3+}$ ion substituted $Pb^{2+}$ ion and played the role of doner. Because the creation of space charges was restricted by Yttrium, degradation of remanent polarizations by cumutation of polarization reversals of PZT was protected. But coercive field was increased because of vacancies generated Yttrium added.
