The effect of mixed treatments of wood vinegar and sulfonylurea-based herbicides on weed control, yield and yield components, and quality of rice was investigated. Two herbicides were tested namely: imazosulfuron-ethyl+thiobencarb[ethyl-1-(2-chloroimidazo[1,2-$\alpha$]pyridin-3-ylsulfonyl)-3-(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl) urea+S-4-chlorobenzyl diethyl(thiocarbamate)], and bensulfuronmethyl+butachlor [methyl $\alpha$-[(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-ylcarbamoyl)sulfamoyl]-o-toluate+N-butoxymethyl-2-chloro-2',6'-diethylacetanilide]. The experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications and 5 treatments. Treatments used were recommended(RH: 100%) and half-recommended(HRH: 50%) application rates of each herbicide. Half-recommended application rates were combined with 1 mL wood vinegar $500mL\;water^{-1}$(500) and 1 mL wood vinegar $1000mL\;water^{-1}$(1000) wood vinegar. Plots for no herbicide treatments were also prepared and used as control. Results showed that wood vinegar significantly increased efficacy of HRH in bensulfuron-methyl+butachlor while high efficacy was already obtained in HRH treatment of imazosulfuron-ethyl+thiobencarb. Wood vinegar did not improve the efficacy of imazosulfuron-ethyl+thiobencarb but improved rice yield. Significantly similar rice yields were obtained in the HRH+1000 WV and RH treatments of both herbicides. There were no significant variations in the yield components among the treatments; however, differences in yield can be attributed to the variations in the spikelet number and ripening ratio. Data on rice quality analysis did not show clear trend on the effects of the treatments on grain appearance and nutritional quality.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of Dandelion (Taraxzcum coreanum) supplementation on milk yield, milk composition and blood characteristics in lactating dairy cows. Eight lactating dairy cows were divided into two groups (control: TMR supplementation, treatment: TMR with Dandelion supplementation). The milk yield, milk fat, lactose, solids not fat (SNF) and somatic cells counts (SCC) were not significantly different between the control group and the treatment group, whereas milk protein, milk urea nitrogen (MUN) and free fat acid (FFA) were significantly higher in the treatment group compared to the control (p<0.05). The blood components of the treatment group were compared with those of the control group and only aspartate aminotransferase (AST) appeared significantly high (p<0.05). The other blood components were not significantly different in the two groups. Blood corpuscle components in the groups were not significantly different. Especially, all blood corpuscle components in the treatment group were within the normal range. However, the white blood cells (WBC), lymphocytes (LYM) and hematocrits (HCT) in the control group exceeded the normal range. Based on the above results, the addition of Dandelion to feed increased milk protein, MUN and FFA, but did not significantly affect the composition of the blood and corpuscle in Holstein milking cows.
To determine effects of simulated acid rain on the growth and yield of rice, soybean and sesame, and on the soil acidity, two cultivars of rice, soybean and sesame were exposed twice a week to one of four simulated rain acidities[pH 2. 6, 3. 6, 4. 6 and 5. 6(control)]. The plants were protected from ambient rain by a polyethylene film cover. No visible damage due to the simulated acid rain was observed at any stage of growth for either of the crops. In rice, heading date, plant height and yield components except ripening ratio were not significantly affected by the pH ofsimulated rain, but the ripening ratio and rough rice yield linearly decreased as the pH of simulated rain was decreased. In soybean, maturing date and yield components except 100 seed weight were not significantly influenced by the pH of simulated rain, but the 100 seed weight and yield linearly decreased as the pH of simulated rain was decreased. Seed yield and the other agronomic characteristics of sesame were not significantly affected by the pH of simulated rain. Soil pH after cropping rice, soybean and sesame decreased as pH of simulated rain was decreased.
The effects of liming and inoculation of nodule bacteria on the growth and yield of soybeans in the 1st and 3rd year paddy-upland rotated paddy fields was investigated. Compared with the 1st rotated field, the degree of nodulation was much higher in the 3rd rotated one with greater difference at flowering stage than at the early stage of soybean growth. At the same time, greater difference in the degree of nodulation was also recognized between soybean varieties. In the 3rd year rotated field, a great deal of nodulation effect was recognized in the no-limed field but not in the limed one. The growth of soybean was not much affected by liming and nodulation at early stage but it was much increased by liming at flowering stage, especially in Williams 79, indeterminate type variety. Most of yield components and yield of soybean at maturity was much increased by liming with greater in Williams 79 than in Namhaekong. Nodulation effect on the yield components and yield was great in the no-limed filed but not in the limed one for both varieties. The yield and yield components of soybean, without no relation with liming and nodulation, was much great in the 3rd year rotated paddy fields than in the 1st year one, which was inferred that the more rotated fields the more yield and better growth of soybeans could be possible in the paddy-upland rotatonal soybean croppings.
The present study was conducted to investigate the variations in morphological traits, yield and yield-related components of rice cultivars exposed to different weather conditions by growing at the locations with different altitude but with equal latitude. Three Japonica varieties (Daegoldo, Jinheung, Shin #2) and three Tongil type semi-dwarf varieties(Josaengtongil, Suweon 287, wx 817-65-2-3) were seeded at Suweon on April 21 and transplanted at Suweon ($127^{\circ}$ N37 20', altitude 37m) and Jechun ($128.2^{\circ}$, N37 10', altitude 280-300m) on June 1 with the spacing of 30 $\times$ 15 em. The morphological traits, yield and yield-related components were measured. Culm length, paincle length and 1000-grain weight showed a little increase in Japonica varieties in Jechun as compared to those in Suweon and vice versa in semi-dwarf varieties, showing no significant differences. Number of panicles, per hill and number of spikelets per panicle among yield-related components showed remarkable increase in all varieties in Jechun as compared to those in 'Suweon but such inter-locational differences differed with varieties within varietal group and between varietal groups. On the contrary, grain fertility was higher in Suweon than that in Jechun and in Japonica varieties than that in semi-dwarf varieites , showing greater inter-locational difference in semi-dwarf varieties. Among Japonica varieties Jinheung and Shin #2 showed remarkable increase in yield in Jechun as compared to that in Suweon but in semidwarf varieties it was just the opposite. The importance of each of the yield-related component contributing to yield showed similar tendency 'regardless of locations in Japonica varieties. However, it was evidently different between locations in semidwarf varieties, where number of spikelets per panicle showed greatest direct effect on yield in Suweon but in Jechun so did grain fertility followed by the number of spikelets per panicle.
The effects of various weather factors on yield components of rice, year variation of yield components within regions, and regional differences of yield components within year were investigated at three Crop Experiment Stations O.R.D., Suweon, Iri, Milyang, and at nine provincial Offices of Rural Development for eight years from 1966 to 1973 for the purpose of providing information required in improving cultural practices and predicting the yield level of rice. The experimental results analyzed by standard partial regression analysis are summarized as follows: 1. When rice was grown in ordinary seasonal culture the number of panicles greatly affected rice yield compared to other yield components. However, when rice was seeded in ordinary season and transplanted late, and transplanted in ordinary season in the northern area the ratio of ripening was closely related to the rice yield. 2. The number of panicles showed the greatest year variation when the Jinheung variety was grown in the northern area. The ripening ratio or 1, 000 grain weight also greatly varied due to years. However, the number of spikelets per unit area showed the greatest effects on yield of the Tongil variety. 2. Regional variation of yield components was classified into five groups; 1) Vegetation dependable type (V), 2) Partial vegetation dependable type (P), 3) Medium type (M), 4) Partial ripening dependable type (P.R), and 5) Ripening dependable type (R). In general, the number of kernel of rice in the southern area showed the greatest partial regression coefficient among yield components. However, in the mid-northern part of country the ripening ratio was one of the component!; affecting rice yield most. 4. A multivariate equation was obtained for both normal planting and late planting by log-transforming from the multiplication of each component of four yield components to additive fashion. It revealed that a more accurate yield could be estimated from the above equation in both cases of ordinary seasonal culture and late transplanting. 5. A highly positive correlation coefficient was obtained between the number of tillers from 20 days after transplanting and the number of panicles at each(tillering) stage 20 days after transplanting in normal planting and late planting methods. 6. A close relationship was found between the number of panicles and weather factors 21 to 30 days, after transplanting. 7. The average temperature 31 to 40 days after transplanting was greatly responsible for the maximum number of tillers while the number of duration of sunshine hours per day 11 to 30 days after transplantation was responsible for that character. The effect of water temperature was negligible. 8. No reasonable prediction for number of panicles was calculated from using either number of tillers or climatic factors. The number of panicles could early be estimated formulating a multiple equation using number of tillers 20 days after transplantation and maximum temperature, temperature range and duration of sunshine for the period of 20 days from 20 to 40 days after transplantation. 9. The effects of maximum temperature and day length 25 to 34 days before heading, on kernel number per panicle, were great in the mid-northern area. However, the minimum temperature and day length greatly affected the kernel number per panicle in the southern area. The maximum temperature had a negative relationship with the kernel number per panicle in the southern area. 10. The maximum temperature was highly responsible for an increased ripening ratio. On the other hand, the minimum temperature at pre-heading and early ripening stages showed an adverse effect on ripening ratio. 11. The 1, 000 grain weight was greatly affected by the maximum temperature during pre- or mid-ripening stage and was negatively associated with the minimum temperature over the entire ripening period.
In order to obtain basic informations for selecting early maturing rice varieties which is suitable for early cropping before Alisma plantago in the southern part of Korea. Eleven rice varieties were grown from May to September in 1999∼2001 at Sunchon Youngieon Experiment Field and yield components and yield of plants were investingated. Early maturing rice cv. Jinbubyeo showed higher rough rice yield than any other varieties used in the experiment. It showed high yield components, culm length, panicle length, number of panicles per plant, number of spikelets per panicle and ratio of ripened grains. therefore, it was concluded that Jinbubyeo was the most suitable variety with high yield for the cultivation before Alisma plantago at the southern part of Korea. The heritability of culm length number of spikelets per panicle and rough rice yield were high and that of panicle length number of panicle per plant, ratio of ripened grain and 1,000 grain wt. of milled rice were low. The rough rice yield showed highly significant positive correlations with culm length, panicle length, number of spikelets per panicles and ratio of ripened grains.
This paper surveys research since the 1990s on the ability of the yield spread and its components (i.e., expectation spread and term premium components) for future economic activity, and also conducts an empirical analysis of their forecasting ability using the yield data of Korean government bonds. This paper's survey, particularly for the US, shows that the yield spread has significant predictive power for some macroeconomic variables, but since the mid-1980s, its predictive power seems to have declined, possibly due to stronger inflation targeting. Next, this paper's empirical analysis using Korean data indicates that the yield spread, and the term premium component in particular, has significant predictive power for industrial production (IP) growth, consumer price index growth, and the IP gap. An out-of-sample analysis shows that the prediction equations are unstable over time, and that in predicting IP growth, the yield spread decomposition makes a significant contribution to the prediction of IP growth.
The experiments were carried out to develop simulation model for estimating the yield of soybean in upland and paddy field condition. Field experiments were done at National Institute of Crop Science in 2005. The evaluated soybean cultivars were Taekwangkong, Daewonkong, and Hwangkeumkong. Soybean seeds were planted by hill seeding with 3-4 seeds and row and hill spacing were $60{\times}10cm$ in upland and $60{\times}15cm$ in paddy field. Seeds were sown on row (without making ridge) and on the top of ridge in upland and paddy field, respectively. Field parameters were measured yield components ($plants/m^{2}$, pod no./plant, and 100-seed weight, seed yield and growth characteristics (stem length, leaf area at each stage, and dry weight of shoot) and after measuring they were compared the relationships with seed yield and yield components and seed yield and growth characteristics. Seed yield of soybean was affected by cultivars and planting density. Seed yield was higher in upland than paddy field due to the higher planting density in upland field. The upland soybeans generally had lower 100-seed weight than that of paddy field. Seed yield of soybean in a paddy field was greatest in Taekwangkong and followed by Daewonkong and Hwangkeumkong. The harvest index of taekwangkong and Hwanggumkong was higher in upland than paddy field, however, it was higher in paddy field than upland in Daewonkong. Seed yield was greatest in Daewonkong in both experimental fields. The greatest stem length was observed in taekwangkong and Hwanggumkong (R6) in late growth stage in paddy field. Dry weight of shoot and pod, pod number, stem length, and stem diameter were higher grown in paddy field than grown in upland. Crop growth rate (CGR) of cultivars was higher in paddy field after 8 WAS(weeks after sowing) and it was greatest at 13 WAS in Daewonkong among the cultivars. In upland field, CGR was greatest in Taekwangkong and then followed by Daewonkong and Hwanggumkong during 12 and 15 WAS. There was no significant relationships between 100-seed weight and seed yield in both experimental fields. A significant positive relationship was observed between seed number and seed yield. The correlation coefficients between leaf area and shoot dry weight were about 0.8 during the whole growth stage except 5 WAS and 4-5 WAS in paddy field and upland, respectively. This experiment was done just one year and drained paddy field condition was not satisfied drained condition successfully at 7th leaf age of soybean by the heavy rain, so we suggest that the excessive soil water reduced seed yield in paddy field and the weather condition should be considered for utilizing of these results.

To determine optimal plant density of forage rape in southern areas of Korea, Velox, the highest yielding variety among seventeen introduced varieties of forage rape, was grown under five different plant densities. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Yield components such as stem diameter, number of main stem, leaves, number of branches and number of branch leaves and fresh yield were highest at the plots with 50cm row spacing and 30cm plant spacing. 2. Dry matter yield, content of crude protein, IVDMD and digestible dry matter yield were highest at the plots of broadcasting. 3. Since plants under high density were high in plant length and small in stem diameter, contents of crude fiber such as NDF, ADF, cellulose and lignin were lowest at the plots of broadcasting.
