Comparison of Serum Adiponectin Levels According to Body Mass Index and Dietary Behaviors of Female University Students in Seoul (서울지역 여대생의 비만도 및 식습관에 따른 혈중 adiponectin 농도의 차이)

  • This study was conducted to determine whether dietary factors could be related with serum adiponectin concentrations in 243, year-three female university students living in Seoul. The mean of body mass index (BMI) and adiponectin levels of all subjects were $20.17kg/m^2$ and $11.07{\mu}g/ml$, respectively. When the subjects were divided into 3 groups based on BMI (underweight: < 18.5, normal: $18.5{\leq}&lt;23$, overweight and obesity: ${\geq}23$), serum adiponectin levels in underweight group was significantly higher than that in 'normal' or 'overweight and 'obesity' groups. Also when the subjects were divided into two groups by mean adequacy ratio (MAR), serum adiponectin concentration of the high MAR group (MAR > 75) was slightly higher than that the low MAR group ($MAR{\leq}75$). Serum adiponectin levels showed a negative correlation with body weight (p < 0.01) or BMI (p < 0.001) and a positive correlation with intakes of of animal or total protein (please clarify) or vegetable protein.Among the dietary behaviors, serum adiponectin levels of females who answered 'yes' to the question about 'eating breakfast' was significantly higher than that of those who answered 'sometimes' or 'No' (p < 0.05) and serum adiponectin levels were higher among those who reported higher fruit intakes. Overall, our results suggested that healthy lifestyle including acceptable BMI, eating breakfast and higher fruit consumption might play an important role in the prevention of obesity and enhancement of blood adiponectin levels.

  • GuessWhat?! is a game in which two machine players, composed of questioner and answerer, ask and answer yes-no-N/A questions about the object hidden for the answerer in the image, and the questioner chooses the correct object. GuessWhat?! has received much attention in the field of deep learning and artificial intelligence as a testbed for cutting-edge research on the interplay of computer vision and dialogue systems. In this study, we discuss the objective function and characteristics of the GuessWhat?! game. In addition, we propose a simple solver for GuessWhat?! using a simple rule-based algorithm. Although a human needs four or five questions on average to solve this problem, the proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art deep learning methods using only two questions, and exceeds human performance using five questions.

Gender and Age Differences in Attitude toward 3-D Body Scanning (성별 및 연령에 따른 3차원 인체측정에 대한 태도 비교)

  • The purpose of this research is to compare the people’s attitude toward 3-D body scanning by their gender and age in order to provide the application of 3-D body scanning data for new services or products. This study collected questionnaire data from 442 Korean females and 258 Korean males who participated in the 3-D body scanning. The result of this study were as follows: 1. Most people had good feelings for 3-D body scanning. Male respondents were more dissatisfied than female, and teenagers had higher dissatisfaction rate than other age groups for the measurement garment. 2. 80.5% of all respondents had the intention for re-measurement of 3-D body scanning. Male respondents and teenagers had low intention for re-measurement. 3. For the use of 3-D body scanning data, 79.6% said "yes" for making avatar, and 88.3% agreed with the custom made clothes. There was no difference between gender and age for this question. The results of the study will demonstrate how clothing retailers and marketers can use the 3-D body scanning data.

Effects of Continuous Speech Therapy in Patients with Non-fluent Aphasia Using kMIT (kMIT를 이용한 비유창성 실어증 환자 음성 언어의 치료효과 연구)

  • Melody intonation therepy (MIT) is to improve the linguistic aspects of the verbal utterance for aphasic patients utilizing the intact right brain. It is applied to the aphasic patients with good comprehension, poor fluency, and little available speech are thought to be ideal candidates. The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of Korean Melody intonation therapy (kMIT) in patients with non-fluent aphasia. Five male non-fluent aphasic patients were participated in this study. Average ages were 49.9 years old. Each therapy took 45-50minutes once a week for six months. Aphasic Screen lest (RISS) was used to assess language parameter such as Auditory comprehension, oral expression, reading, writing and calculation ability before and after kMIT. Mean of Length Utterance, verbal intelligibility and articulation disorder were assessed also. Computerized Speech Lab was used to assess the acoustic characteristics of aphasic patients before and after kMIT. The results are as follows : 1) Auditory comprehension, oral expression, reading, writing and calculation ability of the subjects increased after UH'. However, only oral expression showed significant difference (p<0.05). 2) Mean of Length Utterance of five patients generally increased after Un. 3) After kMIT, verbal intelligibility increased and showed significant difference (p<0.05). 4) Misarticulation rate generally decreased after m. 5) Voice Onset Time of the alveolar lenis /t/ and velar lenis /k/ gradually decreased after kMIT. 6) However, intonation pattern were increased gradually in yes'no question after kMIT.

Awareness Survey on Korean Traditional Festival Food of North Korean Defectors Living in South Korea (한국에 거주하는 북한 이탈 주민의 명절음식에 대한 인식도 조사)

  • The study interviewed 102 North Korean defectors residing in South Korea after completing the Hanawon program through face-to-face interviews. The most celebrated holiday in South Korea was found to be Seollal at 65.7%, followed by Chuseok at 23.2%, Christmas at 7.8%, and Hansik at 1%. With respect to the question of wheather or not North Korea creates a more festive mood compared to South Korea, 33.3% of respondents answered that they felt similar in both countries 2.6% said "yes", they were in a more festive mood in North Korea, whereas 21.6% said "no", and 18.6% said they felt "very different". The most representative traditional food was ranked in the order of rice dishes with kimchi (19.6%), rice cake (11.8%) and boiled rice (8.9%) on National Liberation Day of Korea; rice dishes (17.6%), rice cake (7.8%) and boiled rice (4.9%) on North Korea Constitution Day; and rice cake (57.8%), noodles (9.8%), dumplings (9.8%) and boiled rice (8.8%) on Lunar New Year's Day. In regard to positive recognition about festival foods, "festival food of South Korea has diverse recipes" showed the highest positively in South Korea. The respondents positively recognized that festival foods of North Korea are not sweet, have a unique taste are traditional and have a table setting.

Knowledge, Attitude, Performance on the Hand Washing by Dental Hygiene Students (치위생과 학생의 손 씻기에 대한 지식, 태도, 수행도)

  • This study was conducted to assess knowledge, attitude, and performance of dental hygiene students on the hand washing. We surveyed 288 students attending the department of dental hygiene at K Universities and H Universities in Gwangju during the period from September 5 to November 20, 2014. The obtained data were analysed using SPSS version 20.0. According to the general characteristics, the hand washing knowledge of the third year students was highest with 4.72. At the question on the change of awareness after the education of hand washing, the hand washing performance showed that 4.17 for 'yes' was higher than 4.03 for 'no'. There was negatively correlated between knowledge and attitude (r=-0.020, p>0.05). The performance was positively correlated with attitude (r=0.161, p<0.05). There is a need to develop a continuous education program for finding out the right way to hand washing, which is able to enhance knowledge, attitude, and performance on hand washing.

The Development of a Simple Evaluation Questionnaire for Screening the Overweight-type Dietary Pattern in 30 to 49 Year Old Adults (한국 장년 성인의 과체중 예방을 위한 식생활 간이평가표 개발)

  • A study was performed to develop as a screening tool the Simple Evaluation Questionnaire for Screening the Over-weight-type Dietary Pattern in 30 to 49 Year Old Adults. We used the data from the 30 to 49 year old subjects who participated in the three surveys - the health behavior survey, the dietary habit survey and the food intake survey - as the National Health and Nutrition Survey 1998. The 3,598 adults were classified into to two body fatness groups of normal (including underweight) and overweight (including obese) on the basis of their relative body weight (RBW) When comparing variables between the two groups, significant differences were found in gender, education, job, employment status, perceived health status, sadness / depression state, stress level, age, number of diseases, age when overweightedness started, maximum body weight, sleep length, drinking pattern (yes/no) , amount of alcoholic drinks, frequency of intoxication or drunkeness, amount of alcoholic drinks when drunk, intensity of exercise, frequency of exercise, exercise duration, skipped meals, small meals and drug supplements. In terms of food intake, there were significant differences in the daily food intake in terms of breakfast, dinner, daily kimchi and dairy products. In terms of mealtimes, we found differences in the amount of cooked rice at breakfast, kimchi at lunch, soup / kuk at dinner, fresh vegetables for snacks, fried foods for snacks between breakfast and lunch, and fruits /juices for snacks between lunch and dinner. After developing questions with indicators and analyzing the indicators by logistic regression analysis three times, we chose 10 questions for a simple evaluation of dietary patterns for the overweight-type category in order to give one point each. Among them we selected two questions to add one additional point and one question to add two additional points. The average scores of the overweight and normal groups, as shown by the developed questionnaire, were $5.97 \pm 2.36 \pm 7.36 \pm 2.21$, respectively. A score of seven points was selected as the cut-off point. We examined the sensitivity, specificity and positive predictive value of the questionnaire to the results of 67%, 59% and 62%, respectively.

Work-Related Upper Extremity Musculoskeletal Pain Korean Baristas (한국의 바리스타들의 업무 관련 상지 근골격계 통증)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of work-related upper extremity musculoskeletal pain in baristas and to identify the elements that are related to pain. The questionnaires were distributed to 100 workers in 63 cafes on Jeonju city in Korea. As a result of investigating work related pain, 65.3% (n=64) answered "yes" to the question that had pain at least once a week, month, or year, or 34.7% (n=34) answered "no". Most of the workers were right-handed, and when they felt pain, they felt 25 to 50% of time per day. Especially, baristas reported that the use of porter filters during work and the tamping operation were the most painful. In conclusion, our study indicated that necessary to introduce and develop a program to prevent cafe worker disease, as well as need to future research to improve work environment and posture according to the characteristics of the cafe works.

Difficulties experienced by endodontics researchers in conducting studies and writing papers

  • Objectives: The study investigated the difficulties experienced by endodontics researchers around the world in conducting studies and writing papers. Materials and Methods: A survey consisting of 18 questions on the difficulties experienced by endodontics researchers in performing studies and writing papers was e-mailed to academics in the field of endodontics working at 202 universities. The independent risk factors were analyzed using binary logistic regression at a significance level of 0.05. Results: A total of 581 individuals (10.7%) agreed to participate in the study. Almost half the participants (48.2%) reported that they had received some type of training in conducting studies and writing papers. In response to the question, "Do you get help from a statistician to perform the statistical analyses of your studies?," 77.1% answered "yes." Around 40% of the participants stated that the need to obtain ethical approval negatively affected their desire to conduct studies. The participants' regions had no effect on the reported difficulties associated with writing papers in English or conducting statistical analyses (p > 0.05). Most participants (81.8%) reported difficulties in writing the Discussion section, regardless of their region, academic degrees, or years of experience. Conclusions: The participants stated they experienced difficulties in many areas, such as conducting statistical analyses, finding new ideas, and writing in English. Engaging in a detailed examination of ethics committee rules, expanding biostatistics education, increasing the number of institutions providing research funding, and increasing the number of endodontics journals can increase the enthusiasm of endodontics researchers to publish papers.

Dental Hygienists' Awareness of Long-term Senior Care Insurance System (노인장기요양보험제도에 관한 치과위생사의 인지도)

  • The purpose of this study is to cover dental hygienists who work for metropolitan dental hospitals or clinics in Seoul city, Incheon city and Gyeonggi province from January to April 2009 and profile their awareness of Long-term Senior Care Insurance System (hereinafter called 'LSCI (System)', so that it may provide material reference data to contribute to expanding and establishing oral health medical services in the framework of LSCI System. As a result, this study could come to the following conclusions: 1. It was found that the highest priority of dental hygienists' visiting oral hygienic services under LSCI System was focused on 'caring and preventive treatment', and their secondary priority was focused upon 'oral health education.' 2. In response to a question item about whether dental hygienists need dentist's prescription in written before performing their visiting oral hygienic services, it was found that 38.2% dental hygienists answered 'Yes (necessary)' and 61.8% answered 'No (unnecessary).' 3. In response to a question item about whether dental hygienists may open up long-term senior care center, it was found that absolute majority of dental hygienists (93.4%) answered 'No' and only 6.6% dental hygienists answered 'Yes.' The standardized professional education are thought to be needed to be developed aiming at the success in oral-hygiene service within a LSCI, by strengthening professionalism in dental hygienists.
