For the safety of sea, it is important to monitor sea fog, one of the dangerous meteorological phenomena which cause marine accidents. To detect and monitor sea fog, Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data which is capable to provide spatial distribution of sea fog has been used. The previous automatic sea fog detection algorithms were focused on detecting sea fog using Terra/MODIS only. The improved algorithm is based on the sea fog detection algorithm by Wu and Li (2014) and it is applicable to both Terra and Aqua MODIS data. We have focused on detecting spring season sea fog events in the Yellow Sea. The algorithm includes application of cloud mask product, the Normalized Difference Snow Index (NDSI), the STandard Deviation test using infrared channel ($STD_{IR}$) with various window size, Temperature Difference Index(TDI) in the algorithm (BTCT - SST) and Normalized Water Vapor Index (NWVI). Through the calculation of the Hanssen-Kuiper Skill Score (KSS) using sea fog manual detection result, we derived more suitable threshold for each index. The adjusted threshold is expected to bring higher accuracy of sea fog detection for spring season daytime sea fog detection using MODIS in the Yellow Sea.
An algorithm for detection of yellow sand aerosols has been developed with infrared bands from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) and Multi-functional Transport Satellite-1 Replacement (MTSAT-1R) data. The algorithm is the hybrid algorithm that has used two methods combined together. The first method used the differential absorption in brightness temperature difference between $11{\mu}m$ and $12{\mu}m$ (BTD1). The radiation at 11 ${\mu}m$ is absorbed more than at 12 ${\mu}m$ when yellow sand is loaded in the atmosphere, whereas it will be the other way around when cloud is present. The second method uses the brightness temperature difference between $3.7{\mu}m$ and $11{\mu}m$ (BTD2). The technique would be most sensitive to dust loading during the day when the BTD2 is enhanced by reflection of $3.7{\mu}m$ solar radiation. We have applied the three methods to MTSAT-1R for derivation of the yellow sand dust and in conjunction with the Principle Component Analysis (PCA), a form of eigenvector statistical analysis. As produced Principle Component Image (PCI) through the PCA is the correlation between BTD1 and BTD2, errors of about 10% that have a low correlation are eliminated for aerosol detection. For the region of aerosol detection, aerosol index (AI) is produced to the scale of BTD1 and BTD2 values over land and ocean respectively. AI shows better results for yellow sand detection in comparison with the results from individual method. The comparison between AI and OMI aerosol index (AI) shows remarkable good correlations during daytime and relatively good correlations over the land.
The technique of Brightness Temperature Difference (BTD) between 11 and $12{\mu}m$ separates yellow sand dust from clouds according to the difference in absorptive characteristics between the channels. However, this method causes consistent false alarms in many cases, especially over the desert. In order to reduce these false alarms, we should eliminate the background noise originated from surface. We adopted the Background BTD (BBTD), which stands for surface characteristics on clear sky condition without any dust or cloud. We took an average of brightness temperatures of 11 and $12{\mu}m$ channels during the previous 15 days from a target date and then calculated BTD of averaged ones to obtain decontaminated pixels from dust. After defining the BBTD, we subtracted this index from BTD for the Yellow Sand Index (YSI). In the previous study, this method was already verified using the geostationary satellite, MTSAT. In this study, we applied this to the polar orbiting satellite, MODIS, to detect yellow sand dust over Northeast Asia. Products of yellow sand dust from OMI and MTSAT were used to verify MODIS YSI. The coefficient of determination between MODIS YSI and MTSAT YSI was 0.61, and MODIS YSI and OMI AI was also 0.61. As a result of comparing two products, significantly enhanced signals of dust aerosols were detected by removing the false alarms over the desert. Furthermore, the discontinuity between land and ocean on BTD was removed. This was even effective on the case of fall. This study illustrates that the proposed algorithm can provide the reliable distribution of dust aerosols over the desert even at night.
An algorithm for detection of yellow sand aerosols has been developed with infrared bands. This algorithm is a hybrid algorithm that has used two methods combined. The first method used the differential absorption in brightness temperature difference between $11{\mu}m\;and\;12{\mu}m\;(BTD1)$. The radiation at $11{\mu}m$ is absorbed more than at $12{\mu}m$ when yellow sand is loaded in the atmosphere, whereas it will be the other way around when cloud is present. The second method uses the brightness temperature difference between $3.7{\mu}m\;and\;11{\mu}m(BTD2)$. This technique is sensitive to dust loading, which the BTD2 is enhanced by reflection of $3.7{\mu}m$ solar radiation. First the Principle Component Analysis (PCA), a form of eigenvector statistical analysis from the two methods, is performed and the aerosol pixel with the lowest 10% of the eigenvalue is eliminated. Then the aerosol index (AI) from the combination of BTD 1 and 2 is derived. We applied this method to Multi-functional Transport Satellite-l Replacement (MTSAT-1R) data and obtained that the derived AI showed remarkably good agreements with Ozone Mapping Instrument (OMI) AI and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aerosol optical depth.

In order to analysis on color difference of yellow natural dyes, I have dyed cellulose and protein fabrics. The results of experiment have been analysed by wavelength of maximum absorption, amounts of dye uptake, color difference, Hunter's value and Munsell's value. The results from these analyses are as follows : Bud of pagoda tree, Amur cork, and Curcuma showed greenish yellow color, Gardenia Jasminoides showed reddish yellow color. Barberry root showed reddish yellow color with post-mordanting method on cellulose fabric. Moreover, Dupioni silk was dyed in reddish yellow color by Barberry root and Rhubarb. In addition to Chroma index, Gardenia Jasminoides and Curcuma showed clear color overall. However, dyeing rayon and silk by Barberry root, and dyeing silk by Rhubarb showed clear color. Comparing all the results to actual dyed materials, Bud of pagoda tree had small dye uptake, and both ${\Delta}a$ and ${\Delta}b$ value were short which can't recognized the yellow color easily. Dye uptake of Amur cork and Gardenia Jasminoides was small just like Bud of pagoda tree. However, ${\Delta}b$ value order was Gardenia Jasminoides>Amur cork>Bud of pagoda tree. Therefore, Gardenia Jasminoides recognized reddish yellow because of big value of red color and yellow color. In case of Barberry root and Rhubarb which have larger dye uptake, Baberry root recognized yellow color on rayon only, and couldn't recognized yellow color on bleached cotton fabric, ramie, silk, and dupioni silk. Rhubarb recognized yellow color on rayon with pre-mordanting method only, but recognized silk and dupioni silk as brown like color. Moreover, we could not analyze color by dye uptake, Lab, and H(v/c) for Barberry root and Rhubarb. As a result, I think we need to attach color table for the research paper which handled the color of dyeing materials.
Three pseudo-silver eels (PS1~PS3) were found by analysis of silvering index and biological characteristics of 454 eels, Anguilla japonica, collected from the 9 sites of Korean fresh and brackish waters from September 2014 to August 2015. Two specimens (PS1~PS2) from Lake Soyang and one (PS3) from Geum river estuary were identified as pseudo-silver eel showing a large difference between silvering index and GSI. The external morphology of the pseudo-silver eels were in S2 (late silver eel) stage, but they were classified into Y1 (yellow eel) and Y2 (late yellow eel) stage in GSI, Gut index, Eye index and Y2 stage in gonadal development and mean egg diameter.
Investigations were made on population biology of Pampus echinogaster (Basilewsky, 1855) in the coastal areas of Korea, Yellow Sea, between August 2005 and July 2006. Population structure was not significantly different between male and females. Monthly variation of gonadosomatic index (GSI) of both sexes defined spawning period extending from March through July. A similar pattern was also observed in change at maturity stages. For males and females GSI was positively correlated with hepatosomatic index (HSI). Fecundity, ranging from 41,250 to 103,610 eggs, was related to body size, indicating that body size is the useful determinant of fecundity. The sexual maturity ($L_{50}$) was estimated as 14.98 cm TL for males and 19.32 cm TL for females. Parameters of growth estimated by the modified von Bertalanffy growth function model showed that the values of $L_{\infty}$ and K for combined data were 39.12 cm TL and 0.65 $yr^{-1}$. The growth performance index of this study (2.75) was higher than that of the previous study (2.45). This difference could be attributed to sampling method. The recruitment patterns indicated one normally distributed group. Percentage of the recruitment was 51.04% in the spawning season and the highest in August (19.78%).
This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of the substitution of flour with young-barley-leaf powder on the quality characteristics of yellow layer cake. The physical properties of the cakes (i.e., viscosity, specific gravity, specific volume, cake index, and color) were measured, and the changes in hardness during the three-day storage at $22^{\circ}C$ were measured. Sensory evaluation was done with five-scale acceptance test. Both the viscosity and specific gravity of the batter were significantly influenced by the substitution. Nonetheless, no significant difference was shown in the specific volumes of the cakes. The volume indices of the cakes containing young-barley-leaf powder were higher than those of the control. The lightness, redness, and yellowness values of the crusts decreased with the addition of young-barley-leaf powder. While the lightness values of the crumbs decreased, the redness and yellowness values increased. The substitution of more than 6% flour with young-barley-leaf powder kept the hardness of the cakes lower than that of the control during the three-day storage. The cakes containing 2, 4, and 6% young-barely-leaf powder showed no significant differences from the control in the acceptance test, except in the crumb color.
UV transmission spectra of water-soluble acrylic resin films containing hydroxybenzophenolic, hydroxyphenylbenzotriazolic UV absorber and HALS(hindered amine light stabilizer) were investigated by exposure time(before exposure weathered for 160 and 320hours) in QUV Weather-Ometer. Also the YID(yellowness index difference), LID(lightness index difference) and CD(color difference) of dried water-soluble acrylic resin films and the coated woods of Larix leptolepis were analyzed by addition level of UV absorber(0, 1, 2 and 3%) and HALS(0, 0.5, 1 and 1.5%) and by exposure time in QUV Weather-Ometer. They showed no significant effects on UV transmission spectra of dried water-soluble acrylic resin films in the range of 300 to 400nm irrespective of exposure time. However, UV transmission decreased as increase of exposure time. UV transmission spectra were lower in dried water-soluble acrylic resin films containing hydroxybenzophenolic UV absorber and HALS than in these containing hydroxyphenylbenzotriazolic UV absorber and HALS in the range of 350 to 400nm. The least YID, LID and CD in the coated woods of Larix leptolepis appeared at the addition level of 3%, based on non-volatile content, in hydroxybenzophenolic and hydroxyphenylbenzotriazolic UV absorber, and of 1.5% in HALS to water-soluble acrylic resin.
Optical transparency and high diffraction efficiency are two essential factors for high performance of the photopolymer. Optical transparency mainly depends on the miscibility between polymer binder and photopolymerized polymer, while diffraction efficiency depends on the refractive index modulation between polymer binder and photopolymerized polymer. For most of organic materials, the large refractive index difference between two polymers accompanies large structural difference that leads to the poor miscibility and thus poor optical quality via light scattering. Therefore, it is difficult to design a high-performance photopolymer satisfying both requirements. In this work, first, we prepared a new phase-stable photopolymer (PMMA) with large refractive index modulation and investigated the optical properties. Our photopolymer is based on modified poly (methyl methacrylate) as a polymer binder, acryl amide as a photopolymerizable monomer, triethanolamine as initiator, and yellow eosin as a photosensitizer at 532 nm. Diffraction efficiency over 85% and optical transmittance over 90% were obtained for the photopolymer. Second, Organic-inorganic nanocomposite films were prepared by dispersing an aromatic methacrylic monomer and a photo- initiator in organic-inorganic hybrid sol-gel matrices. The film properties could be controlled by optimizing the content of an organically modified silica precursor (TSPEG) in the sol-gel matrices. The photopolymer film modified with the organic chain (TSPEG) showed high diffraction efficiency (> 90%) under an optimized condition. High diffraction efficiency could be ascribed to the fast diffusion and efficient polymerization of monomers under interference light to generate refractive index modulation. The TSPEG modified photopolymer film could be successfully used for holographic memory.
