Graded 다층박막거울을 이용한 단색 엑스선 획득 (Acquisition of Monochromatic X-ray using Graded Multilayer Mirror)

  • 최근 의료영상기술에서 유방암 엑스선 진단기술의 주요 이슈는 정확한 조기암 진단과 환자의 피폭선량의 감소에 있다. 엑스선 영상대비도를 높이고 피폭선량을 줄이는 기술 중 하나로써 다층박막거울을 이용한 단색 엑스선을 획득하는 연구가 선행되어 왔다. 그러나 기존의 Uniform 다층박막거울은 거울면의 일부 반사영역에서만 원하는 파장대역의 단색 엑스선을 얻을 수 있어서 엑스선 영상기술 응용에 한계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 다층박막거울의 전 영역에 걸쳐 동일한 단색엑스선을 얻기 위해 거울에 입사하는 백색 엑스선의 입사각에 상응하는 선형적 기울기의 박막두께를 갖는 Graded 다층박막거울을 설계하였고, 기존 이온빔 스퍼터링 장치에 마스크 제어 장치를 추가 제작하여 $100{\times}100mm^2$ 크기로 제작하였다. 제작된 Graded 다층박막거울은 17.5keV의 단색 엑스선을 획득할 수 있도록 설계하였으며 박막두께주기는 2.88nm~4.62nm(Center 3.87nm)이다. 엑스선 반사율은 60% 이상이며, 단색 엑스선의 FWHM은 1.4keV 이하이고 엑스선 빔 폭은 3mm정도이다. 유방촬영에 적합한 몰리브덴 특성엑스선에 해당하는 17.5keV의 단색 엑스선을 얻음으로써 저선량 고감도 유방암 진단장치 개발에 응용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

An Investigation of X-ray pulsation searches: Weighted vs unweighted H test

  • Timing analysis에서 pulsar 또는 magnetar의 pulsation 측정은 background 또는 주변의 다른 source의 영향으로 매우 세밀하게 측정을 진행해야 할 수 있다. 하지만 gamma-ray 영역에서는 instrument의 낮은 imaging resolution으로 인해 likeihood 분석법을 사용하며, pulsation측정의 sensitivity를 향상시키기 위해 weighted H-test를 적용하고 있다. weighted H-test는 Instrument의 responses와 source, background의 radiational properties를 이용하여 각 photon의 probability를 계산하고 이를 weight하여 pulsation detection의 sensitivity를 향상시키는 방법으로 이번 연구를 통해 이를 X-ray에서 적용할 수 있도록 확장하였다. 이번 발표에서는 X-ray 데이터 중 상대적으로 낮은 imaging resolution을 갖는 XMM-Newton data에 weighted H-test를 적용하여 기존의 H-test와의 차이를 비교해보고, weighted H-test가 갖는 이점에 대하여 논의하고자 한다.

Restoration of Chest X-ray by Kalman Filter

  • A grid was sandwiched between two cascaded imaging plates. Using a fan-beam X-ray tube and a single exposure scheme, the two imaging plates, respectively, recorded grid-less and grid type information of the object. Referring to the mathematical model of the Grid-less and grid technique, it was explained that the collected components whereas that of imaging plates with grid was of high together with large scattered components whereas that of imaging plate with grid was of low and suppressed scattered components. Based on this assumption and using a Gaussian convolution kernel representing the effect of scattering, the related data of the imaging plates were simulated by computer. These observed data were then employed in the developed post-processing estimation and restoration (kalman-filter) algorithms and accordingly, the quality of the resultant image was effectively improved.

유방촬영장치의 타깃에 따른 에너지스펙트럼 및 팬텀영상화질 (The energy spectrum and phantom image quality according to mammography target-filter combinations)

  • 엑스선의 에너지가 높으면 엑스선이 피사체(object)를 통과하여 영상의 대조도를 떨어뜨리고 엑스선의 에너지가 낮으면 영상의 대조도는 증가시키지만 엑스선이 피사체에 흡수되어 환자의 피폭선량을 증가시킨다. 그러므로 적정한 엑스선 에너지는 영상의 질과 피폭선량에 영향을 미치는 매우 중요한 요소이다. 본 논문에서는 새로운 양극물질을 사용하는 유방촬영 장치의 도입에 따라 방사선 선질이 다양해진 유방촬영장치의 영상품질관리와 환자선량관리을 위하여 유방촬영장치의 타겟 물질에 따른 에너지스펙트럼을 시뮬레이션하고 팬텀 영상의 화질을 비교하였다.

치과 영상용 삽입형 초소형 X선 튜브의 가능성 연구 (Feasibility study of insertable miniature x-ray source for dental imaging)

  • 기존 구내 치근단 촬영용 장치는 환자 피폭선량, 촬영시 고통 등의 문제점을 지니고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위한 신개념의 삽입형 초소형 X선 시스템의 가능성을 검증하였다. 먼저 초소형 X선 튜브에 사용될 콜리메이터와 필터를 설계하기 위하여 Geant4를 이용하여 최적의 콜리메이터 두께와 필터 두께를 결정하였으며 CdTe 검출기와 PX4 모듈을 이용하여 결정된 두께에서의 X선 스펙트럼을 확인하였다. 또한 기존 상용화된 치근단 촬영장치와 XOFT사의 초소형 X선 튜브를 이용하여 제작된 치아 팬텀에 대한 영상을 획득하였다. 그 결과 제안된 신개념의 삽입형 초소형 X선 시스템은 기존 시스템과 유사한 영상의 질을 나타내었다. 이는 향후 치근단 촬영용 장치를 비롯하여 다양한 응용부위에 활용할 수 있음을 나타낸다.

  • This study was done to provide basic data on the safety of professionals in medical imaging system by measuring the electromagnetic waves generated in the medical imaging system being used in medical organization. The studied medical imaging systems were general X-ray system, computed tomography(CT), ultrasonographic system, magnetic resonance imaging(MRI), PET-CT and fluoroscopic system, and through these devices, electric field and magnetic field were measured and analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the measured values classified by the medical organizations were not much significant, but in the measurement by the medical imaging systems, there were high hazard elements in the sequential order of electric field PET-CT($17.7{\pm}22.9$)v/m, CT($10.3{\pm}8.7$)v/m, general X-ray system ($8.8{\pm}8.8$)v/m, magnetic field general X-ray system($5.06{\pm}8.26$)mG, CT($2.71{\pm}4.53$)mG and PET-CT($0.74{\pm}0.34$)mG, the systems that adopted X-ray as main ray source, and the more aged the medical imaging systems, the greater the effects of electro-magnetic waves($10.6{\pm}15.93v/m$ for 5 years or more, $6.14{\pm}5.60v/m$ for 5 years or less). The effects of electromagnetic waves on medical imaging systems or facilities were not much when the notification of ministry of knowledge economy is considered, but in the overall perspective considering all the equipments and facility of the medical organization, such effects were significant. It is determined that sustainable safety managements of electric field and magnetic field must be done during process from medical imaging system installation to maintenance to rule out such factors.

  • In this paper we propose an directional analytic approach in image data space for X-ray image which is detected from the X-ray projection system. Such a radiographic nondestructive testing has long been used for steel-tube inspection and weld monitoring. The welded area and thickness of steel-tube are detected from gradient radiating mechanism based on the evaluation of biased X-ray source position. The welded area is an ellipse type on low contrast X-ray image including noise. Noise originates from most of elements of the system. such as shielding CCD camera, imaging screen, X-ray source, inspected object, electronic circuits and etc.. Projection incorrectness and noise influence on imaging quality is to be represented by vertical pixels' distribution. Space analysis due to vertical direction also shows the segmental possibility between regions by visual edge evaluation.

X-ray 영상기법을 이용한 비소 흡수가 고사리 내부 수액 거동에 미치는 영향 연구 (X-ray Micro-imaging of Arsenic Absorption of Sap Flow in Xylem Vessels of Pteris)

  • The global environment is deteriorating at an alarming rate, despite of enhanced international environmental regulation. Many studies have been performed to reduce toxic pollutants. Recently, plant-based phytoremediation technology for moving toxic contaminants from soil and water has been receiving large attention. Arsenic-contaminated soil is one of the major pollutant sources for drinking water. Pteris erotica has been known as a hyper-accumulator of arsenic from soils. In this study, we investigated the effect of arsenic absorption on sap flow inside xylem vessels of Pteris. The synchrotron X-ray micro-imaging technique was employed to monitor the refilling process of water containing arsenic inside the xylem vessels of Pteris's leaves and stems non-invasively. The captured phase-contrast X-ray images show both anatomy of internal structure and transport of water inside Pteris. The exposure of Pteris to arsenic solution was found to increase largely the water raise speed in xylem vessels. The present results would provide important information needed for understanding the mechanisms of accumulation and transportation of toxic materials in plants.

In this study, we investigated the arsenic absorption effect on sap flow inside xylem vessels of a fern brake. The synchrotron X-ray micro-imaging technique was employed to monitor flow inside the plant non-invasively. The captured phase-contrast X-ray images show both anatomy and transport of water inside the fern brake. The refilling process of water containing arsenic inside the xylem vessels of fern brake's leaves and stems was clearly observed. These results would provide important information needed fur understanding the mechanisms of accumulation, translocation, and transformation of toxic materials in plants.
