The purpose of this study was to compare clothes-wearing in winter between Korean and Japanese college students and to provide the fundamental data for apparel manufacturers to produce young woman's clothing. A total of 332 Korean female students in the capital area and 347 Japanese female students in Tokyo aged between 19 and 25 were used into data analysis from December 2007 to January 2008. Their majors were Fashion Design and Clothing & Textiles. The questionnaires consisted of 36 questions in total. Their details were as follows: 2 questions about the purposes of wearing clothes in winter, 5 questions about whether or not underwear was worn and its types, 9 questions about the types of wearing outer garments, 17 questions about the types of wearing accessories, and 3 questions about demographic characteristics. The results were as follows: It was found that many female students wore clothes for "a protection purpose" or "an ornamental purpose" in winter. There was significant difference between Korea and Japan. As for the question about whether or not underwear was worn in winter, less Korean students answered than Japanese students that they wore both of upper and lower underwear. More upper underwear was worn than lower underwear. As for the question about the types of wearing outer garments, both Korean and Japanese students answered that they wore 3-layered upper garments in winter most. The types of upper garments worn in winter were different between Korea and Japan. The lower garments worn in winter were different between the two countries as well. The Korean students mainly wore pants while the Japanese students wore skirts. As for the types of accessories, there was significant difference between Korea and Japan about most of the questions about hats and gloves. Korean students wore them more than Japanese students. There was no significant difference between the two countries about whether or not scarves or earmuffs were worn. In both countries, more students wore scarves while less students wore earmuffs.
The aim of this study was to use a 3D human body scanner to analyze the cross section of different body parts when a girdle is worn. Two types of girdles were selected as experimental garments: a standard type girdle (Garment A) and a high-waist type girdle (Garment B). Their sizes were 88 (S) and 94 (M). Ten female subjects in their twenties who wear girdles sizes 88 (S) and 94 (M) participated the experiment. Their bodies were scanned three times with the 3D human body scanner, before and after wearing experimental girdles. The data were collected by overlapping the cross sections of the 3D scanned body shape data. The space length was measured from the overlapped cross sections. The results show that human body silhouette are changed after wearing the compression type garments and the amount and place of the body change is different by style of garments. First, the waist girth shape became rounder. Second, there was a definite difference in space amount at abdomen girth between two types of girdle. The abdomen area was pushed toward the front after wearing the standard type girdle (A). The high-waist type girdle (B) pushed abdomen area toward the back. Third, there was clear difference at the hip area after wearing two types of girdle. The hip area pushed toward the front with the standard type girdle (A) and pushed toward the back with the high-waist type girdle (B).

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the suitability of Boesun (the Korean Socks) to the foot. In order to find the problem of Boesun, I made up the questionnaire. The suitabltity of Boesun to the foot was experimented by 'the replica method', 'the fuse method' and 'the deform painting method'. The pressure of Boesun to the foot was measured by utilizing a human sensitivity as a sensor. The results were as follows. 1. In the questionnaire, the fore part of Boesum was uncomfortable by the pressure. 2. The surface area of Boesun was generally smaller than the surface area of the foot, but the ratio of two surface area related closely to the individual. 3. At the cross-sections from No. 1 to No. 10, the breadth of the worn Boesun was smaller than the breadth of the foot. Because of the smaller breadth of the worn Boesun, the foot was get the pressure at the fore part of Boesun. This result accorded with the result of the questionnaire. 4. The location of the deformation by 'deform painting method' was almost the fore part of Boesun. 5. The pressure of Kwon's Boesun was 2.57$\~$2.99kg, the pressure of Kim's Boesun was 1.31$\~$1.74 kg and the pressure of Lee's Boesun was 3.42$\~$3.88kg. Compared with the distribution chart of the pressure, Kwon's Boesun was involved the back part of 'slightly pressured' and the fore part of 'pressured', Kim's Boesun was involved the fore part of 'slightly pressured' and Lee's Boesun was involved the middle part of 'pressured'.

This study was conducted to measure the exposure levels to noise for the middle and the high school students who worn headsets in the PC rooms. The noise levels from the headsets were measured with noise dosimeters, and the statistical relationships between the utilization pattern, user's views on the PC rooms and it's environment were analyzed for the selected PC rooms in the Ahnshan area. The results were as follows; 1. No significant difference was found in the number of uses and average time spent per day by education level and by sex of the users(p>0.05). 2. No statistical significant difference was found between the contents selected by education level of the users (p>0.05). The male participants overwhelmingly enjoyed the PC games (98.3 %) while females selected for listening music (75.0 %) with significant difference(P<0.05), followed by browsing internet and PC communications (70.0 %), PC game (66.7 %) and chatting (33.3 %). 3. The actual noise measurements of the headsets worn by the users of different sexes and educational backgrounds produced no differences(p>0.05), while a significant difference was found between genders (p<0.05). 4. For sound pressure level measurements, the weighted average(Lavg) of 84.5 dB(A) on the left headsets exceeded that of 79.8 dB(A) on the right headsets significantly(p<0.01) and the maximum value of 96.9 dB(A) on the left headsets exceeded the maximum value of 93.5 dB(A) on the right headsets(p<0.01). 5. The actual noise measurements of the headsets worn by the users of different sexes and educational backgrounds produced no differences(p>0.05), however, the contents selected by the users with different educational backgrounds were noted with significant difference(p<0.05) while no difference was found by gender(p>0.05).
This study aims to examine the differences in impression formation according to the accessories and hairstyles worn by men, and to investigate the relation between men's appearance and occupation inferences. The subjects were 320 female university students residing in the Seoul metropolitan area. First, wearing eyeglasses gave an impression of more intelligent image and less mild image. It was evaluated that the men wearing neckties have a high dimension of intelligence, and men wearing no necktie have a high dimension of progressiveness. Men with classic hairstyles had a high dimension of intelligence, while men with sports hairstyles had a high dimension of progressiveness, conspicuousness, and attractiveness. Second, metal rims on glasses had a high dimension of empowerment and attractiveness when a red necktie was worn, while horn-rimmed glasses with no necktie had a high dimension of conspicuousness and progressiveness. The men with sports hairstyles, with no eyeglasses had the highest dimension of progressiveness when a red necktie was worn. Third, it was evaluated that wearing a cloche hat or baseball cap had a low dimension of empowerment, while wearing a necklace had a high dimension of empowerment, conspicuousness, and progressiveness. Fourth, the men who wore a suit, eyeglasses, and a necktie with a classic hairstyle were deduced to be professionals, with high-ranking or white-collar jobs. It was found that when men wore a suit with a sports hairstyle, no eyeglasses, and no ties, they were inferred to be engaged in a service job. The baseball caps were strongly associated with technical or simple labor job.

Clothes for a 3 to 6 year-old toddler should be made in consideration of their behavioral characteristics since it is when the physical ability of toddlers has rapidly developed and their social, emotional, and cognitive development are increasingly active. Indoor clothes are the item that consumers prefer because they provide the function of outside underwear when functioning as outerwear when indoors that is used frequently for toddlers. We analyzed the wearing condition and the uncomfortable aspects of toddler's clothes worn indoors through consumer surveys of toddler wear. This study gathers data for the development of indoor clothing that is useful for 3-6 year old toddlers. Consumer surveys indicate that the clothes most worn indoors were underwear (69.4%). The most important aspect in the selection of indoor clothes was the suitability for activities (29%). The preferred colors for indoor clothes were found to be pastel-tone colors (66%). Regarding the uncomfortable aspects of indoor clothes, knees of the clothes (36.8%) have the most naps and the breast of the clothes (37.8%) dirty quickly. Knee parts (35.4%) become worn easily; in addition, the material for the knee area is likely to have naps and require special functions. In conclusion, designing toddler clothing requires elaborated design techniques that consider the characteristics of the subject group and reduce inconveniences. This study will serve as preliminary data to develop ultimate products that have the functionality to meet gender behavior characteristics and the aesthetics for toddlers 3 to 6 years of age.
Transitional zones, one of the typical weak area of earthworks, require lasting a maintenance work due to a differential stiffness of substructures. It is very difficult problem that transition zone was perfectively prevented against a differential settlement. The transitional zone will deteriorate at an accelerate rate. This may lead to pumping ballast, swinging or hanging sleepers, permanent rail deformations, worn track components, and loss of surface and gauge. In this study, it is performed that settlement behavior in transitional zone was compared with small model test.

This study improves maternity clothes worn by pregnant women across each trimester. A total of 164 survey results from pregnant women living in the metropolitan area around Seoul, South Korea were received from November 2015 to July 2017. The results of this study were as follows. First, Internet shopping purchases were significantly lower during the first trimester of pregnancy than during the mid-trimester and third trimester (p<.001). Further, satisfaction levels with most items purchased online were significantly lower in the first trimester of pregnancy. Regarding the purchase price, there was no difference according to the pregnancy trimester. During the first trimester of pregnancy less body shape changes occur than in the mid-trimester and third trimester; however, the first trimester shows the lowest satisfaction levels for each item of maternity clothing and most body parts when worn. There were also no differences according to pregnancy trimester in terms of preferred maternity clothes purchased, but there were significant differences according to occupational status. Working pregnant women generally preferred not to reveal their body shape.
This study highlights the homogeneity in the heritage of the costume cultures between the Gulf of Aden, a part of the Horn region of Africa and the Arab region of West. Asia. Specifically, a cross-cultural perspective is used to examine the similarities between the two regions based on their (1) geographic living cultures and (2) the use of a costume accessory called Burga-a face veil. The current trend in research on the traditional costume culture of Africa mostly ties art with the traditional costume culture and examines its from an aesthetic or animalism perspective rather than from a cross cultural Perspective. Compared to Previous research in this area this study used literature reviews and Pictorial analysis to analyze costume cultures from a cross-cultural perspective. The Burga, which is worn in the low lands of the Horn region, which is located between the West Asia and African continents, as well as the Arab region, shows a reciprocal cultural exchange between the two regions. Similarities can be found in the shape, design, decorative elements, and the way the Bursa was worn in two regions. Although the Burga as a face veil is only a small part of a costume, it reaffirms the similar living cultures and geographic characteristics of the two regions. As the living culture environment becomes similar around the world, this study should help with cross culture negotiations as well as forther the development of traditional costume research.

Surface modified carbon nanotubes were applied into the epoxy composites to investigate its tribological property. Carbon nanotubes reinforced epoxy composites were fabricated by casting. Effects to the tribological property of loading concentrations and types of surface modification of carbon nanotubes were investigated under sliding condition using linear reciprocal sliding wear tester. The results show that the small amount of carbon nanotubes into the epoxy exhibited lower weight loss than the pure epoxy. It is concluded that the effect of an enormous aspect ratio of carbon nanotubes surface area which wider than conventional fillers that react as interface for stress transfer. As increased the contents of carbon nanotubes, the weight loss from the wear test was reduced. And the surface modified carbon nanotubes show better tribological property than as produced carbon nanotubes. It is due that a surface modification of carbon nanotubes increases the interfacial bonding between carbon nanotubes and epoxy matrix through chemical bonding. Changes in worn surface morphology are also observed by optical microscope and SEM for investigating wear behaviors. Carbon nanotubes in the epoxy matrix near the surface are exposed, because it becomes the lubricating working film on the worn surface. It reduces the friction and results in the lower surface roughness morphology in the epoxy matrix as increasing the contents of the carbon nanotubes.
