  • An experimental study was undertaken to observe the difference in susceptibility of mouse strains to Metagonimus yokogawai infection by estimating it from worm recovery rate and dimension of worms. It was also studied the effects of prednisolone injection on the chronological pattern of worm recovery in ICR mice. The metacercariae were obtained from sweetfish and 300 in each number were given to 5 strains (CBH, A, DBA, $C^{57}BL$ and KK) of mice, and after 7 days period, the worms were collected from their intestine. Prednisolone at the dose of 10 mg/kg was injected to ICR mice every other day from 7 days prior to infection until sacrificed at 6 hours to 35th post-infection day. ICR mice infected with M. yokogawai but untreated were used for controls. The success rate in infection of mice ranged 25.0-83. 3% by strains, the worm recovery rate 1. 2-18. 9%, and the average size of worms O. 554-0. 683 mm long and 0.214-0.244 mm wide. The higher rates and larger size of worms were observed in KK and $C^{57}BL$ strains than others and the difference was statistically significant. In ICR mice for control, the worm recovery rate until 1 day after infection was relatively high (38-66%) but it became much lower (less than 0.7%) during 1-35 days. However, prednisolone injection brought about persistently high recovery rates (16-80%) until 21 days. It was concluded that the susceptibility to M. yokogawai infection is different by strains of mice but it can be elevated by prednisolone injection probably due to suppression of Immune respon3e3 in ICR mice.

  • Bot is a kind of worm/virus that is remotely controlled by a herder. Bot can be used to launch distributed denial-of-service(DDoS) attacks or send spam e-mails etc. Launching cyber attacks using malicious Bots is motivated by increased monetary gain which is not the objective of worm/virus. However, it is very difficult for infected user to detect this infection of Botnet which becomes more serious problems. This is why botnet is a dangerous, malicious program. The Bot DNS Sinkhole is a domestic bot mitigation scheme which will be proved in this paper as one of an efficient ways to prevent malicious activities caused by bots and command/control servers. In this paper, we analysis botnet activities over more than one-year period, including Bot's lifetime, Bot command/control server's characterizing. And we analysis more efficient ways to prevent botnet activities. We have showed that DNS sinkhole scheme is one of the most effective Bot mitigation schemes.

  • Simple and useful synthetic process to control the morphology of block copolymers (BCPs) is required for implementation in various device applications. However, the conventional method to use colloidal templates is not enough to realize the production of pure and massive core-shell nanoparticles due to the cost-intensive complex process. Here, we introduce a novel and facile synthesis method to realize the formation of core-shell $SiO_x$ nanoparticle power by employing an immersion annealing of a sphere-forming poly(styrene-b-dimethylsiloxane) (PS-b-PDMS) BCP. We successfully obtained a PS-encapsulated $SiO_x$ nanoparticle with a diameter of ~20 nm. In addition, we analyzed how the mixing ratio of heptane/ethanol affects the BCP morphology of self-assembled PS-b-PDMS nanoparticles, showing a worm-like structure under the optimum immersion conditions. This useful approach is expected to be extendable to other solvent-based BCP synthesis, providing a new guideline for unique BCP production.

  • Periodic mesoporous organosilicas with rope-based morphology from a reaction gel composition of 1 BTME : 0.57 ODTMABr : 2.36 NaOH : 353 H2O were synthesized. While long rope-shaped product dominated in case of static synthesis condition , gyroid type products instead of rope shaped product appeared and rope shaped product disappeared with agitation. PMO with such a long rope shaped morphology is firstly reported. Additionally, various rope-based morphologies depending on the degree of bending, twisting, folding and winding of rope such as spirals, discoids, toroids, and worm-like aggregates were observed. White powdered products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, N2 sorption measurement, SEM and TEM. From XRD pattern and TEM image, ODTMA-PMO with hexagonal symmetry was identified. The pore diameter and BET surface area of ODTMA-PMO are $32.9{\AA}$ and 799 m2g-1 , respectively. Hexagonally arrayed channels run with long axis of rope and rope-based shapes with various degree of curvature, which was elucidated by using TEM images.

  • Food is important to any animal, and a large part of the behavioral repertoire is concerned with ensuring adequate nutrition. Two main nutritional sensations, hunger and satiety, produce opposite behaviors. Hungry animals seek food, increase exploratory behavior and continue feeding once they encounter food. Satiated animals decrease exploratory behavior, take rest, and stop feeding. The signals of hunger or satiety and their effects on physiology and behavior will depend not only on the animal's current nutritional status, but also on its experience and the environment in which the animal evolved. In our novel, nutritionally rich environment, improper control of appetite contributes to diseases from anorexia to the current epidemic of obesity. Despite extraordinary recent advances, genetic contribution to appetite control is still poorly understood partly due to lack of simple genetic model systems. In this review, we will discuss current understanding of molecular and cellular mechanisms by which animals regulate food intake depending on their nutritional status. Then, focusing on relatively less known muscarinic and cGMP signals, we will discuss how the molecular and behavioral aspects of hunger and satiety are conserved in a simple invertebrate model system, Caenorhabditis elegans so as for us to use it to understand the genetics of appetite control.

  • Comparison of body weight changes of does infected with Haemonchus contortus (treatment groups 2 &3) and uninfected does (control group) was made using weekly body weight measurements over 35 weeks. The animals in treatment group 2 weighted significantly (p < 0.05) less than animals in the control group from the 5th week to the end of the experiment. Does in treatment group 3 had significantly (p < 0.05) lighter body weight than control does from the 13th week to the end of the study. The animals in control group gained an average of 0.75 kg. On the other hand, animals in infected groups 2 and 3 lost an average of 3.90 kg and 4.13 kg body weight, respectively. The animals in groups 2 and 3 also had significantly (p < 0.05) lower preslaughter and hot carcass weights than the controls.

  • Control thresholds for the management of beet army worm, Spodoptera exigua (Lepidoptera : Noctuidae) were evaluated on welsh onion of two different planting time. Two inoculation times were tested for each planting and the number of inoculated larva was 5, 10, 20, 40 per twenty plants. The injured rate of leaves was 33.5% to 10.9% at 7th September at 40 to 5 larva inoculation plot on the five days planting. That of leaves was 20.5% at 40 larva on the twenty days planting. The yields of welsh onion on non-inoculation plot were 4,395 kg per 10a. The rate of reduced yields was 49.2%(1,774.2 kg) and 36.5%(2,220.5 kg) at 40 larva inoculation on the 5 and 20 days planting, respectively. The linear relationships between population density and yield reduction were as following; it was Y=-43.474X + 3419.6 ($R^2\;=\;0.9698$) for 5 days and Y=-32.977X + 3518.9 ($R^2\;=\;0.9928$) for 20 days. Based on these results the control threshold level was estimated to be 1.8 larva for 5 days and 4.6 larva for 20 days per 20 plant. The more damaged leaves by S. exigua larva, the more yield reduction on welsh onion.

  • The statistical interpretations are on the correlations and the linear regressions between the various meteorological conditions the branch Pusan-Observatory of the National-Central-Meteorological-Observatory had measured from 1930 to 1962, and the production of silk worm cocon that the Section of Sericulture in the Ministry of Agriculture & Fishery had recorded from 1930 to 1962 in Gyung Sang Nam Do Korea. These were most in proportion to the sun shine time, an inverse proportion to the atmosphere humidity and the lowest temperature, in proportion to the mean temperature, the highest temperature and the amount of the rain fall. The correlations and linear regressions between the various meteorological factors to control the production of the silkworm cocoon of both per a box of the silk worm egg and per 10a of mulberry field was as follows. (1) The production of the spring silk worm cocoon was dicided by the various meteorological factors. 1. • Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) using crude and affinity-purified antigens of adult worms of Paragonimus westermani was performed for infected cat sera with different worm burden, from preinfection to 18th week after infection. Crude antigen was used with supernatant of homogenated worms by freezing-thawing method, and the supernate was centrifuged for 1 hour at 10,000 rpm at $4^{\circ}C$. Affinity-purified antigen(antibody-bound antigen) was prepared from fractions(bound and unbound) of crude antigen by affinity chromatography on CNBr-activated sepharose 4B, and IgG as a ligand was prepared from paragonimiasis cat serum(6 months infected) obtained by ammonium sulfate ($40%{\sim}45%$ saturated) precipitation method. By SDS-PAGE, crude antigen showed 22 polypeptide fractions while purified antigen showed 4 fractions: 36, 400, 34, 700, 27, 600 and 11, 500 in molecular weights. All cats were divided into five groups($G_1-G_5$) by different worm burdens. The mean of recovered worms(${\pm}SD$) and the number of cats in each group are as follows: $G_1$, 2 worms(0) and 4 cats; $G_2$, 4.75 (${\pm}0.66$) and eight; $G_3$, 10.75(${\pm}1.92$) and four; $G_4$, 23.20(${\pm}3.43$) and five; $G_5$, 48(${\pm}12.63$) and five cats. The results were summarized as follows: 1. The antibody levels(OD value) increased by worm burden in $G_1$ to $G_4$ generally. However, individual antibody levels were not exactly related with worm burden in all groups, especially there was a wide difference in $G_4$ and $G_5$. These results suggested that the worm burden in $G_4$ (about $20{\sim}30$ worms) is enough to produce antibody maximum in cats of $2{\sim}3kg$ weight. 2. The antibody levels increased significantly(p<0.05) compared to control sera at the 3rd week in $G_1$ and $G_2$, at the 2nd week in $G_3$, and at the 1st week in $G_4$ and $G_5$. Especially in the 4th week, OD value increased more in $G_1$(p<0.01) and in $G_2$ to $G_5$(p<0.001). In the pattern of antibody levels by ELISA in each group, OD in $G_1$ increased to the 18th week continuously, in $G_2$ OD was maintained same after the 16th week, but in $G_3$ it decreased after the 16th week, and it was maintained same in $G_4$ and $G_5$ after the 14th week. 3. The antibody levels by ELISA with the affinity-purified antigen were higher than those with crude antigen in all groups generally. Especially, the difference of OD values between two antigens was larger from the 4th to the 10th week. In $G_1$ and $G_2$ OD with purified antigen was higher than that with crude one to the 18th week. It was also higher in $G_3$ than that with crude antigen to the 16th week and OD of $G_4$ and $G_5$ were higher before the 14th week than that with crude antigen, however became lower at the 16th week. Consequently, the antibody level in ELISA with affinity-purified antigen was more sensitive at the early weeks after infection and in light infection groups than that with crude antigen.

  • This study was performed to investigate the growth response of earthworm (Eisenia foetida) in cow manure added Cadmium (Cd) and therefore, to estimate the toxic threshold level of Cadmium and the levels of Cadmium in cow manure for obtain-ing the maximum Cadmium-concentration enable to accumulate in earthworm tis-sue. Seven different concentrations of Cadmium added in cow manure were 0 (control), 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 mg/kg, respectively. Survival rate (SR), mean fresh weight of adult worm at final time ($FW_2$), increasing rate (IR), number of cocoon (NC), number of young worm (NY) and residual matter (RW) were not significantly different among Cadmium concentrations in cow manure. Of the measured growth-characteristics, survival rate (SR) had a significantly positive correlation (p<0.001) with number of cocoon (NC). But mean fresh weight of adult worm at final time ($FW_2$) had a significantly negative correlation (p<0.05) with residual matter of cow manure. The maximum Cadmium concentration accumulated in tissue was ranged from 283.8 mg/kg to 396.2 mg/kg. It was obtained at the level of 956.5 mg/kg and 1116.6 mg/kg in cow manure added Cadmium, respectively.
