Workflow based storing and reconstructing model for XML documents (워크플로우 기반의 XML문서의 변경저장 및 재생성모델)

  • Recent business environments require a company to communicate frequently with other companies. This makes it essential to use XML (extensible Markup Language) documents. Especially in e-Business environments, change management of documents is important to record and trace the history of the documents. It is also important to reconstruct a certain version of documents that are exchanged among companies. In this paper, we propose a new method of storing a document by detecting changes automatically and reconstructing the document version when a user requests. A prototype system is implemented on top of a workflow system. Our approach provides efficiency of storage space and convenient management of documents.

  • 워크플로우 관리시스템(WfMS: Workflow Management System)은 업무 프로세스를 컴퓨터에 의해 정의, 실행 및 관리하기 위한 소프트웨어 시스템이다. WfMS에서는 업무 프로세스의 로직을 컴퓨터가 이해 가능한 언어로 표현하므로 다수의 사용자가 이기종의 분산된 환경에서 참여하는 업무 흐름을 관리 하는데에는 효율적이나 지식경영 측면에서의 지원은 미약하다. 본 연구에서는 WfMS 구조하에서 효과적인 지식 관리를 위해 인공지능 기법의 하나인 사례기반추론(CBR: Case Based Reasoning)을 활용하여 업무 흐름상에서 발생하는 지식을 생성, 저장, 추출되도록 하는 업무 지원 시스템을 개발한다. 지식의 생성을 위해 폼 기반 워크플로우 관리 시스템을 활용하고 CBR 엔진은 제약 조건의 형태로 이뤄지는 쿼리에 대해 유사 사례 추출을 담당한다. 사례 베이스의 저장 형식은 XML(extensible Markup Language)을 이용한다. 본 연구에서 개발된 업무 지원 시스템을 활용함으로써 업무 조정자만으로서의 WfMS의 한계를 벗어나 지식경영 도구로서의 WfMS를 기대할 수 있다.

  • Proposed in this paper is a standard-compliant business process modeling tool which is based on the UML(Unified Modeling Language) activity diagram and produces an XPDL(XML Process Definition Language) file as an output. The XPDL is a standard process definition exchange format by WfMC(Workflow Management Coalition). To develop an UML/XPDL-based modeling tool, the mapping of modeling elements between activity diagram and XPDL format is conducted after the detailed analysis of each modeling specification. As a result of this mapping, it is revealed that modeling elements of each activity diagram and XPDL must be expanded. So new modeling elements are identified and added to each specification. Based on this mapping, the prototype system is developed, and the usefulness of the developed system is shown through the case study.

  • Recently, the rapid progress of Internet and Network affects engineering design environment as well as business fields to utilize Web technologies to enhance it's competitiveness in the world. This situation has also caused many companies to seek out the possibility to increase the collaboration between different organizations within their Product design process.   • A workflow management system is a software system to assist designing processes, controlling and managing the execution of the designed processes. One emerging trend in many recent information systems is the provision of process management functions. In this paper, we propose a method of designing processes for automatic process execution directly from process modeling. First of all, the concept of block is presented which is to define a nested process model. A block is the minimum unit that can specify the relationships of process components, i.e., tasks. A general process can be defined by a combination of the blocks defined in this paper. An algorithm is developed to transform a general flat process model into a nested model. We identify basic types of blocks and build ECA (Event-Condition-Action) rules for each of the basic types. This allows us to automate the execution of the process model by using the active features of active databases.

  • The patient's waiting time and length of stay have been reported as a factor decreasing their satisfaction in the hospital, especially in developing countries. This paper focuses on modeling hospital's outpatient department workflow in a developing country and optimizing the patient waiting time as well as total length of stay. By using discrete-event simulation, many alternative scenarios have raised, such as adding more working time, altering human resources, and adjusting the staff's responsibility, those scenarios will be examined to explore better settings for the hospital. The results show that possible to achieve a 9.6% reduction in patient total length of stay and it could be accomplished without adding more resources to the hospital.

  • MDO(Multidisciplinary Design and Optimization) can be applied for design of complex systems such as aircraft and SLV(Space Launch Vehicle). MDO System can be an integrated environment or a system, which is for synthetic and instantaneous analysis and design optimization in various design fields. MDO System has to efficiently use and integrate distributed resources such as various analysis codes, optimization codes, CAD, DBMS, GUI, and etc. in heterogeneous environments. In this paper, we present Web Services-based MDO System that integrates resources for MDO using Globus Toolkit and provides organic autonomous execution using automation technique such as Workflow system and agent. And also, it provides collaborative design environment through web user interfaces.

  • This paper outlines opportunities and challenges in the Implementation of BPEL based WFMS(Work Flow Management System) for the MES(Manufacturing Execution Systems) level in semiconductor manufacturing. At present, the most MES that are composed of several hundreds of applications in semiconductor wafer fabrication shop have the same problems as others about flexibility and adaptability. When a plant has to produce new product mix, remodel the manufacturing execution process, or replace obsolete equipments, the principal road blocks for responding to new manufacturing environment are inflexible communication infrastructure among the manufacturing process components and the difficulty in porting existing application software to new configurations. In this paper, the issues about BPEL standard, used for the flexibility of Workflow Management System, are presented. We introduce the integrated development framework named nanoFlow which is optimized for developing the BPEL based WFMS application for automated manufacturing system. We describe a WFMS implemented with using nanoFlow framework, review and evaluate the system in terms of flexibility and adaptability.

  • As the collaboration of WFMS(workflow management systems) in enterprises increases, security protocols could be considered a critical factor affecting secure operation of WMFS. The security protocol of WFMS could not reflect the nature of collaboration in WFMS, resulting to collaboration of WFMS on Internet causing the operation problems of WFMS. This study suggests collaboration based security protocols based on the collaboration of WFMS on Internet. To reflect the nature of collaboration in WFMS, this study analyzes security requirements for WFMS. Based on security requirements, this study suggests a security architecture and security protocols for WFMS using security agents.

  • Incorporating proprietary existing it solutions like legacy systems or vendor specific with new technologies is an expensive and time consuming task. Such situations take place due to the lack of ability of proprietary software to cooperate with other parties or to cooperation only with specific vendor products. Such a situation is undesirable and causes a prolonged adaptation period for new applications. This thesis is to show the new approach to creation of Internet applications in Service Oriented Architecture through loose coupling, introduces fare more flexibility into a system composed of connected applications. This approach allows one to integrate through XML based Web Service and reuse a number of arbitrary services available over the Internet in a complex processes specified as a workflow model.
