  • In recent years, the most safety studies have been focused on identifying the relationship between safety climate and safe work behavior in accordance with the awareness that prime causes of accidents are organizational, managerial, and human factors rather than pure technical failures across the world. This study focused empirical research aimed at finding out the safety climate factors and examining the relationships of the safety climate and safe work behavior in construction site in Korea, too. A 10 numbers of safety climate factors were adapted from the Mohamed's study(2002) and tested using PLS-GRAPH 3.0 expecting same results as Mohamed' study. And then the relationship between safety climate and safe work behavior was examined. Only two safety climate factors-personal risk appreciation and worker's safety competence-were found and a strong positive relationship between safety climate and safe work behavior was identified in this study. Discussed in details about the results and implications and suggested further studies.

  • A big difference is seen in the perception of self-responsibility concerning safety, as a result of my survey on the safety measures taken in the pipeline construction at workers level between Japan and Indonesia. Specifically, when an accident occurs, a worker in Indonesia will think that the responsibility depends on the person who causes it. However a worker in Japan will think that safety is can only be protected by law and regulations. There is also another difference in the understanding of construction period. It is alright in Indonesia to take 5 times longer period than it takes in Japan if the cost is less. The idea of punctual delivery is very strong in Japan. Through this survey, points which construction industry in Japan could learn from Indonesia came to surface. In addition, over the recent years, several nasty accidents at Japanese sites were caused due to human error to disregard the law. Japanese should arouse the awareness of self-responsibility in this regard. Risk management should be upon self-recognition of each individual worker in both countries. What is important is the "work attitude education", "to grow sense of self-responsibility by thinking on one's own for one's self" in the education curriculum of man to man learning as in technical educational program.

  • The deep learning image processing technique was used to prevent accidents in lathe work caused by worker negligence. During lathe operation, when the chuck is rotated, it is very dangerous if the operator's hand is near the chuck. However, if the chuck is stopped during operation, it is not dangerous for the operator's hand to be in close proximity to the chuck for workpiece measurement, chip removal or tool change. We used YOLO (You Only Look Once), a deep learning image processing program for object detection and classification. Lathe work images such as hand, chuck rotation and chuck stop are used for learning, object detection and classification. As a result of the experiment, object detection and class classification were performed with a success probability of over 80% at a confidence score 0.5. Thus, we conclude that the artificial intelligence deep learning image processing technique can be effective in preventing incidents resulting from worker negligence in future manufacturing systems.

  • Most industrial accidents occur when the workers' unsafe behavior and the unsafe situation of workplace take place at the same time. Although human's unsafe behavior is indispensable to work field, the evaluation scheme to detect the causes for the accident resulted from human's unsafe behavior and counterplan should be prepared to prevent and reduce accident. To do this, we first classify the specific background factors in terms of human inner factor and environment factor and then develop the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) model to analyze the background factors that affect the worker's unsafe behavior. We also develop a checklist to be able to evaluate the occurrence possibility of individual worker's unsafe behavior.

  • In the labor-intensive construction site, potential threats of the musculoskeletal diseases mainly caused by various repetitive physical tasks, vulnerable environment, and the aging of the labor worker exist. However, quantitative measuring method of construction labor worker's work posture has not been improved yet. This study proposed musculoskeletal measuring method by using wearable motion recognition sensor for quantitative evaluation and analysis of working posture of construction workers. This method is expected to be used as a basic data for posture analysis and prevention construction safety accidents, as well as physical workload and labor productivity analysis by labor work type.

  • Safety accidents on the construction scene can cause serious accidents, that take worker's life, and as the government has been making great efforts to reduce industrial accidents, the role of safety managers closely related to accidents at construction sites is becoming important. However, job stress is high due to excessive workload and inefficient work managed by safety managers in the current construction safety management system. So, it is necessary to improve and simplify the work contents. The main purpose of this study is to identify and improve tasks that need improvement and simplification of inefficient tasks, obtained through expert opinions and surveys on the level of difficulty and prevention effect of tasks in the safety manager's working stage, by using 2×2 Matrix analysis techniques. Therefore, this study will ultimately contributes reducing the occurrence of safety accidents on the construction scene.

  • A survey was conducted on safety and health managers to analyze what change have occurred in the safety health management system of companies since the enforcement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act. As a result, it was confirmed that most of the safety and health budgets increased, and most of the safety and health organization operations and safety and health tasks were strengthened. However, further research is needed to see if this has a practical effect on worker safety and reduction of serious accidents, and realistic measures are needed to allow safety and health managers to focus on practical helpful tasks rather than formal ones. In addition, it was confirmed that active support from business owners or management managers and strengthening education on the Serious Accidents Punishment Act were needed through cross-analysis between the education of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and positive change in safety and health.

  • By the effect of globalism and information the workplace environment is complicated and diversified little by little. The job stress due to the life style, the idea and culture, and the automated facility system etc. is to a tendency which compared to increase more. It will not be able to prevent a industrial accident basically because the oriental and western life style is different. Therefore this paper presents the Korean life change unit model through statistical testing in order to minimize industrial accident with the proposed life change unit factors on the workers living In the middle area. Finally, the analytical result of this paper can be easily used in order to minimize the industrial accidents by the job stress with the worker and the occupational safety & health manager in real fields.

  • The live line working is inherently dangerous as the workers have to work under the risk of electrical shock and most of works are carried out at height. The live line working need the some specific techniques and higher level safety measures such as a risk assessment to carry out works safely, but the electrical construction companies performed live-line working are usually small-sized companies. They have less capacity to have own safety management system. This study intended to conduct an in-depth analysis on the cause of electric shock accidents to provide basic data for policy proposing taking into considering the past eleven years for a long-term plan. And the aim of this study is to propose the policy about the equipment performance standards and/or worker's safety standards to revise the standards for preventing electric shock accidents, moreover, co-relation of the electrical work order form and on safety workings, especially electrical construction company/work.

  • Safety aspect in the manufacturing facility or at the construction site is increasingly emphasized in Korea for last a decade. As a result, the number of industrial accident is decreased slowly by improving the reliability of equipments and human performance through organizational efforts. This paper proposes a mathematical model to estimate and predict the human reliability level corresponding to the worker's job experience. For this purpose, we used the statistics of industrial accidents issued by the Department of Labor in the years of 94-96. The methodology developed in this research will provide a basis for better cost estimation in planning labor policy in the early stage of a project. We believe that this effort would eventually lead to a basis for a new approach to the safety planning.
