A prosthetic knee for above-knee (AK) amputee is categorized into passive and active type. The passive prosthetic knee is generally made by elastic material. Although AK amputee can easily walk by using passive prosthetic leg, knee joint motions are not similar to ordinary persons. The active prosthetic leg can control the knee angle owing to the actuator and microprocessor. However, the active type is not cost-effective and the stability may be lost due to the malfunction of sensors. In order to resolve these disadvantages of passive and active type, a semi-active prosthetic knee which can control the knee angle is proposed in this work. The proposed semi-active one requires a less input energy but provides active type performance. In order to achieve this goal, in this work, a semi-active prosthetic knee using magneto-rheological (MR) damper for AK amputees is designed. The MR damper can support the weight of body by using less energy than actuator of active prosthetic. It can control knee angle by inducing the magnetic field at the time of stance phase. This salient characteristic is evaluated and presented in this work.
For the purpose of investigating the subjective symptom of industrial fatigue, a questionnaire survey was carried out on 282 labor workers and 189 managerial workers who were employed at the manufacture of electronic products in two small scale industries. Checklist of industrial fatigue was composed of physical symptoms(10 items), mental symptoms(10 items), and sensory neurotic symptoms(10 items). The results were as follows : 1. Complain rate of fatigue was the highest in "eye strain" of physical symptom, "feel anxious about things" of mental symptom, and "feel stiffness in the neck or the shoulders" of sensory neurotic symptom in labor workers and managerial workers. 2. Managerial workers demonstrated II dominant type (mental or night work type), while labor workers demonstrated I dominant type of fatigue (general type). 3. Mean weighted score of fatigue complaints in labor workers (23.16) was significantly higher than that in managerial workers (20.34). 4. Mean weighted scores of fatigue complaints in male, 5~9 years of work duration, married, 4~5 hours of sleeping time, graduation of high school and college, and large of workload were significantly higher in labor workers than in managerial workers. 5. In poor work condition with temperature, ventilation, illumination and noise, the average weighted score was significantly higher in labor workers than in managerial workers.

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the health service delivery level and educational needs by work experiences and types of public health center among the nurses who work as visiting health services workers at public health centers. Methods: Data collected from 484 nursing staff for 2 weeks, was analyzed using the SPSS program t-test, ANOVA, and Spearman Rank-Order Correlation. Nurses with more than 2 years experience were 79.1%; and 43.6% of the subjects worked within Gun type public health centers. Results: The health service performance frequency of metropolitan city type public health centers was significantly high in the areas of education, behavior pattern, chronic disease, pregnant women & infants, and multi-cultural family. The health service performance frequency of Gun type public health centers was significantly high in the areas of type of test, fundamental nursing, and basic rehabilitation. In addition, the correlation between the performance frequency and educational needs was positively correlated, and the subjects with greater educational needs performed more. Conclusion: Educational programs should be designed according to the types of public health centers rather than work experiences, especially in systematic training for frequently performed items after reviewing the practice precisely.
Construction industry is considered as one of the most high-risk industries for work-related injuries and fatalities, accounting for more than half of fatalities in Korea. Advanced countries have recognized the critical role of designers in preventing construction accidents and have established regulations on design for safety. In line with this, the Korean government have also implemented regulations that require owners and designers to review the safety of design outcomes. However, it has been observed that designers face challenges in identifying hazards and integrating design solutions at the design stage mainly due to their shortage of required knowledge and skills. This study aimed to examine design solutions that can be applied to prevent fall accidents in the construction industry, and to establish a relationship between these solutions and fatal fall accidents occurred over the past three years in Korea. This study also analyzed the relationships of four variables (construction type, cost, work type, and fall location) with design solutions. The results indicated that all four variables have significant relationships with design solutions, with fall location showing the strongest relationship. The design solutions and their relationships with fatal fall accidents identified in this study can be utilized in identifying hazard and integrating design solutions to ensure design for safety.

This study evaluated thermo-physiological and subjective properties of improved disposable coveralls for railroad carriage maintenance through climatic chamber trials and a filed study. Subjects wore five kinds of disposable coveralls (Type A: a disposable coverall on the market, Type B: a coverall with an improved hood and size-adjustable design, Type C: a coverall with a portable hood, Type D: a coverall with small holes for ventilation, Type E: a sleeveless coverall, Type F: a separated type of coverall with half sleeves) The air temperature in the climatic chamber was set in 9$^{\circ}C$ and 30$^{\circ}C$ For each condition, subjects simulated the railroad work for 120min. and rectal temperature, skin temperatures, clothing microclimate and subjective sensations were measured. The results of chamber trials showed rectal temperature and clothing microclimate did not display significant differences by clothing type. In 30$^{\circ}C$ air temperature, mean skin temperature was higher in Type E and Type F than in Type A(p<0.05) but between the improved coveralls(B-F), we could not find any significant difference. In the case of thermal comfort, the most preferred types were Type B and Type C in 9$^{\circ}C$ and Type F in 30$^{\circ}C$. All subjects felt more comfortable in the improved coveralls than in coveralls of the market (Type A). In field study, workers preferred Type B, Type C and Type F to Type A but the most favorite type differed by the specific type of work. Especially, workers were dissatisfied that Type D tore easily due to lots of small holes around the armpits and Type I did not protect workers' shoulder and arms from oil contamination. According to the climatic chamber trials and field study, the most effective coveralls were Type B and Type C for winter and Type F for summer.
Many people expect remarkable growth in Cloud Computing industry because of it's effectiveness. But Cloud Computing industry is still at an early stage. Especially, people who in the public sector hesitate to adopt Cloud Computing Services due to security issues and their conservative views. Also, they just have limited understanding, so we need to investigate what they really know and understand. The purpose of this study is to propose Improvement plans on cloud-based smart work service of a quasi-governmental agency based on the view point of preference and tendency. To discover three types of cloud-based smart work issues and interpret theoretical definitions of those, we conducted a subjectivity analysis through qualitative methodology. At the result, the study draws three elements of typology: convenience type, concentration type, and collaboration type, and provides directions to strategic-policy studies for future cloud-based smart work services of quasi-governmental agency.
Background: Occupational accidents are unplanned events that cause damage. The socio-economic impacts and human costs of accidents are tremendous around the world. Many fatalities happen every year in workplaces such as electricity distribution companies. Some electrical injuries are electrocution, electric shock, and burns. This study was conducted in an electricity distribution company (with rotational 12-hour shift work) in Iran during an 8-year period to survey descriptive factors of injuries. Methods: Variables collected included accident time, age of injured worker, employment type, work experience, injury cause, educational background, and other information about accidents. Results: Results indicated that most of the accidents occurred in summer, and 51.3% were during shift work. Worker negligence (malpractice) was the cause of 75% of deaths. Type of employment had a significant relationship with type of injuries (p < 0.05). Most injuries were electrical burns. Conclusion: High rate of accidents in summer may be due to the warm weather or insufficient professional skills in seasonal workers. Shift workers are at risk of sleep complaints leading to a high rate of work injuries. Acquiring knowledge about safety was related to job experiences. Temporary workers have no chance to work all year like permanent workers, therefore impressive experiences may be less in them. Because the lack of protective equipment and negligence are main causes of accidents, periodical inspections in workshops are necessary.

In the current age of the information oriented society in which we live, many people use PCs and are dependant on the databases provided by the network server. However, online data can be missed during the occurrence of a blackout and furthermore, power failure can greatly effect Power Quality. This has resulted in the trend of using interruption-free live-line work when trouble occurs in a power system. However, 83% of the population receives an electric shock experience when a laborer is performing interruption-free live-line work. In the interruption-free method, education and training problems have been pinpointed. However, there are few instructors to implement the necessary training. Furthermore, the trainees undergo only a short training period of just 4 weeks. In this paper, to develop a method with no restrictions on time and place and to ensure a reduction in the misuse of materials, immersion type virtual reality (or environment) technology is used. The users of a 3D immersion type VR training system can interact with the system by performing the equivalent action in a safe environment. Thus, it can be valuable to apply this training system to such dangerous work as 'Interruption-free live-line work exchanging COS (Cut-Out-Switch)'. In this program, the user carries out work according to instructions displayed through the window and speaker and cannot perform other tasks until each part of the task is completed in the proper sequence. The workers using this system can utilize their hands and viewpoint movement since they are in a real environment but the trainee cannot use all parts and senses of a real body with the current VR technology. Despite these weak points, when we consider the trends of improvement in electrical devices and communication technology, we can say that 3D graphic VR application has high potentiality.
Background: Dental hygienists study dental radiology through the dental hygiene department and curriculum, and most of the radiography work in dental clinics is performed by dental hygienists; however, the legal work regulations for dental hygienists place restrictions on the type of radiography performed. This study aimed to identify the actual conditions of the radiographic work performed by dental hygienists and to determine the difference according to the type of hospital. Methods: This study included 195 dental hygienists working at dental medical institutions in the metropolitan area. A survey was conducted on regarding the radiographic work performed and the clinical career of the main performers. The radiography work was divided into periapical radiography, bite-wing radiography, occlusal radiography, panoramic radiography, computed tomography (CT), and cephalometric radiography. Results: The frequency of performing intraoral radiography was as follows: periapical radiography, 94.9%; bite-wing radiography, 93.8%; and occlusal radiography, 77.9%. The frequency of performing extraoral radiography was 94.4% for panoramic radiography, 89.7% for CT, and 73.3% for cephalometric radiography. The frequency of internal and external radiography performance was higher among hygienists in dental clinics than among those in dental hospitals and university hospitals. The analysis of the dental hygienists' clinical experience in the areas of intraoral and extraoral radiography showed that those working at university hospitals, dental hospitals, and dental clinics had over 5 years, 2~4 years, and 1 year of clinical experience, respectively. The hygienists with less than 1 year of clinical experience showed high performance frequency (p<0.05). Conclusion: For the dental hygienists to perform radiography safely, a discussion regarding the revision of related laws and regulations is warranted.
Leisure time is a critical part of modern life and is increasingly important in modern society. Therefore, analyzing expectations and values of leisure and researching leisure practices are integral in measuring the quality of life. In this respect, differences between values and attitudes leading to the ideal leisure life and the actual leisure life could provoke negative influence on our lives, further, decreasing quality of life. Therefore, classifying leisure lifestyle through analyzing value of lifestyle and the actual state of leisure precisely is very necessary. Leisure lifestyle could be very useful standard satisfying various desires and demands related to leisure. In the research, we surveyed 3,000 people over 10 years of age, one on one interview method, asking value of life behaviors (Individualism vs. Collectivism, Pro-Stability vs. Pro-Change, Statistical way of life vs. Active way of life, Family-centered life vs. Work-centered life) and practices of leisure life (With whom, How frequently, Where, For what) in respect to both value and behaviors. Through this survey, five groups of leisure life type have been identified; "Community-oriented Type", "Cocoon Type", "Family-oriented Type", "Personal-stability Type" and "Multiplicity Type". These leisure lifestyles would provide effectual alternatives for reducing gaps between expectations for ideal leisure life and actual life. Furthermore, this could be used for ground work to develop measurements for satisfying various leisure demands.
