Buffering Effect of Job Resources in the Relationship between Job Demands and Work-to-Private-Life Interference: A Study among Health-Care Workers

  • Background: The present study aims at investigating whether and how (1) job demands and job resources are associated with work-to-private-life interference (WLI) and (2) job resources moderate the relationship between job demands and WLI. Methods: Data were collected by a self-report questionnaire from three hospitals in Italy. The sample consisted of 889 health-care workers. Results: All job demands (i.e., quantitative demands, disproportionate patient expectations, and verbal aggression) and job resources (i.e., job autonomy, support from superiors and colleagues, fairness, and organizational support), with the exception of skill discretion, were related to WLI. The effects of quantitative demands on WLI were moderated by support from superiors; fairness and organizational support moderate the effects of all job demands considered. Support from colleagues moderated only verbal aggression. Job autonomy did not buffer any job demands. Conclusion: The present study suggests that the work context has a central importance in relation to the experience of WLI among health-care workers. The results indicated that intervention in the work context may help to contain WLI. Such interventions would especially be aimed at improving the social climate within the unit and quality of the organizational process.

A Study on the Characteristics of Work Roll Texturing for Temper Mill

  • The purpose of this paper is to show the result from the study to improve the formability and appearance which is important in the cold rolled strip, the coated strip and prepainted strip. Furthermore, to give appropriate surface roughness, shape of work roll for temper mill is also important. The strip has a greater peak counts and homogeneous roughness. This makes the prepainted surface smooth and consistent in appearance with good image clarity. Therefore, the surface roughness of the work roll is very important. The reason that surface roughness of the work roll is transferred to the strip surface is the rolling farce and tension at the temper rolling or cold rolling. This study is classified in order to get an accurate and homogeneous roughness. There are few papers published in this field, because its importance is not known and the proper operation of the machine is not generally well known. This paper investigates the correlation between strip surface roughness and the surface of the work roll. After studying the surface roughness and shape according to the texturing method for roll surfaces at temper rolling, the findings were as follows. Irregular surface roughness can be compensated with several paint coatings, but this also makes the quality deteriorate and manufacturing costs go up.

자동차 조립 작업에서의 노동 조건 변화와 근골격계질환과의 관련성 (Association between Changed Working Conditions and Musculoskeletal Disorders among Automobile Assembly Workers)

  • Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) were a major source of disability and lost work time after 'Foreign Currency Crisis(1998-2000)' in Korea. There is considerable evidence documenting the association between psychosocial risk factors and work disability due to WMSDs. But, there is not much in Korea. The present study aimed to explore the predictive association between the changed working conditions and WMSDs after 'Foreign Currency Crisis' in Korea. A study sample of 8,670 automobile assembly workers were recruited for this study. A structured-questionnaire was used to assess general characteristics, working conditions, and information concerning medical treatment of WMSDs. After adjustment for sociodemographic factors, increased overtime work(OR=1.22), daily work time(OR=1.20), work speed (OR=1.32), number of workers(OR=0.83), supervisory control(OR=1.39), physical load(OR=1.39), and mental load (OR=1.25) were all founded to be significantly associated with WMSDs. This study has shown the importance of changed working conditions in the occurrence of WMSDs. Therefore, it will be necessary to reduce WMSDs with controlling both physical and psychosocial factors.

아버지와 자녀의 가족식사 빈도에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Determinants of Family Mealtime Frequency for Fathers with their Children)

  • This study recognizes the changes of the father's role and the importance of family mealtimes as well as examines the individual, family and social contexts surrounding the father's family mealtime. This study analyzed the trend of the father's family mealtime frequency and factors affecting them in order to explore the current conditions of their father's work and family balance through family mealtimes. Data from 492 fathers who have school aged children were collected through an online survey. The overall trend of the frequency of father's family meals showed an average of 2.4 breakfasts and an average of 3.2 dinners per week. The frequency of the father's family meals showed statistically significant differences according to the father's age, children's school age, dual income, weekly working hours, working flexibility, leaving on-time and the priority of work and family. The analysis of hierarchical linear regressions was conducted to determine factors affecting the frequency of father's family mealtime to show that the frequency of father's family mealtime was best explained by father's working conditions and perception variables. Working conditions such as working hours, leaving work on time, working flexibility were significant variables in regards to the father's family mealtime frequency. The father's perception towards parental efficacy, wife's support, and work-family priority were significant factors in regards to the father's family mealtime frequency. This study is meaningful in that it provides basic data on policy making for the compatibility of the father's work and family.

When Work is Related to Disease, What Establishes Evidence for a Causal Relation?

  • Establishing a causal relationship between factors at work and disease is difficult for occupational physicians and researchers. This paper seeks to provide arguments for the judgement of evidence of causality in observational studies that relate work factors to disease. I derived criteria for the judgement of evidence of causality from the following sources: the criteria list of Hill, the approach by Rothman, the methods used by International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), and methods used by epidemiologists. The criteria are applied to two cases of putative occupational diseases; breast cancer caused by shift work and aerotoxic syndrome. Only three of the Hill criteria can be applied to an actual study. Rothman stresses the importance of confounding and alternative explanations than the putative cause. IARC closely follows Hill, but they also incorporate other than epidemiological evidence. Applied to shift work and breast cancer, these results have found moderate evidence for a causal relationship, but applied to the aerotoxic syndrome, there is an absence of evidence of causality. There are no ready to use algorithms for judgement of evidence of causality. Criteria from different sources lead to similar results and can make a conclusion of causality more or less likely.

공공부문 스마트워크 활성화 방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Activation Plan of Smart Work in Public Sector)

  • 이 연구는 공공부문 스마트워크센터 사용자에 대한 AHP 설문을 이용하여 정책의 지속적 사용 및 확산을 위한 우선 정책 과제를 도출하고, 분석결과를 토대로 대응 방안을 모색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. AHP 설문을 위한 정책과제의 대분류는 기술 인프라 개선, 제도 개선, 인식 개선의 세 가지로 구성하였다. 기술 인프라는 스마트워크 기술개선과 스마트 워크 시설개선으로, 제도 개선은 법제도 개선과 추진체계 개선으로, 인식개선은 조직문화 개선과 사용자 인식개선으로 각각 중분류하였다. 총 12개의 정책과제 중 조직문화 개선이 중요성과 긴급성 측면에서 가장 우선적인 정책과제로 분석되었으며, 인사복무규정 개선, 정책결정자의 리더십, 사용자의 인식 개선 과제 등이 우선적으로 해소되어야 할 것으로 나타났다.

Workability and Life Satisfaction: Effects of Workers' Positive Perceptions on Their Return to Jobs

  • Background: The death rate of workers due to industrial accidents in South Korea (3.61 persons in 2017) is higher than the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development average (2.43) and the fifth highest among Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development member countries. Although the pandemic of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has changed, the socioeconomic aspects of Korean society, the number of Koreans suffering accidents and the number of deaths in 2020 have increased. It is necessary to take measures to prevent accidents and make comprehensive efforts to return to work. This study proposes research questions about the effect of workers' positive perception on whether to work after accidents and the impact of the experience of rehabilitation services on the return to work. Methods: This research performed a panel logistic regression analysis using data on workers' compensation insurance in Korea for two years (2018-2019). Results: This research finds that workers' positive perceptions of workability and life satisfaction contributed affirmatively to their re-employment. Several factors related to employment (e.g., work period, the number of job qualifications) also positively affect their return to work. However, the experience of rehabilitation services did not have a significant effect on re-employment. The variables of their health conditions (e.g., disability grade, feelings of health problems, age) negatively influenced their return to jobs. Conclusion: These results suggest the importance of workers' mental recovery and the need to innovate rehabilitation services for their employment. Positive thinking and self-rehabilitation could be critical for workers, parallel with social welfare policies.

Study on the Relationship Among Perception Changes to Pre COVID-19, Leisure Satisfaction, Work-Family Conflict, and Life Satisfaction of Married Working Women

  • The outbreak of COVID-19 has significantly impacted various facets of individuals' lives, including perceptions, leisure activities, work-family balance, and overall life satisfaction. This study aims to explore the intricate relationships among changes in perceptions due to COVID-19, leisure activity satisfaction, work-family conflict, and life satisfaction of married working women. Employing path analysis, we examined a dataset of 1,973 married working women drawn from the 8th Korean Women and Families Panel Survey. The findings indicate that while changes in perception associated with COVID-19 did not directly affect leisure activity satisfaction and life satisfaction, they did significantly decrease work-family conflict, indirectly leading to heightened life satisfaction. Additionally, leisure activity satisfaction emerged as a mitigating factor for work-family conflict, contributing to enhanced life satisfaction. These results emphasize the importance of understanding the interplay between external factors, individual perceptions, and well-being, offering insights for devising tailored strategies. The study holds significance in guiding policies and interventions to enhance the quality of life for married working women in the context of evolving pandemic challenges.

정신재활시설 사례관리 활동에 대한 중요도-수행도 분석: 서울지역 정신재활시설을 중심으로 (Importance-Performance Analysis of Case Management Factors on Psychiatric Rehabilitation Centers in Seoul)

  • 본 연구는 IPA 분석을 통해 정신재활시설 사례관리 특성을 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 서울지역 정신재활시설에 종사하고 있는 사례관리자 114명을 대상으로 사례관리 활동별 중요도와 수행도를 IPA와 대응 표본 T-test를 통해 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 사례관리 단계 중 사정 단계가 가장 높은 수행도와 중요도를 보였다. 중요도와 수행도 평균값을 비교하였을 때, 대부분의 사례관리 활동의 수행도가 중요도에 비하여 낮았다. 또한, 대부분의 사례관리 활동이 제1사분면(높은 중요도-높은 수행도)와 제3사분면(낮은 중요도-낮은 수행도)에 위치하였다. 이 중 당사자 서비스 참여는 타 사례관리 활동보다 중요도와 수행도가 모두 높게 나타났지만, 중요도와 비교하였을 때 수행도가 떨어졌다. 지역사회 자원 연계는 중요도와 수행도가 전반적으로 낮았지만, 낮은 중요도에 비해 수행도는 더 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 정신재활시설의 당사자 서비스 참여와 지역사회 지원 연계를 활성화 시키기 위해 다각적인 노력이 이뤄질 것을 제안하였다.

IT 기술을 이용한 거푸집 동바리공사 안전관리 제안 (Proposal for Safety Management of Formwork Construction Using IT Technology)

  • 건설공사에 있어 가설공사는 그 중요성에 비해 전체공사에 차지하는 공사 금액이 낮고 공사 완료 후에는 철거되므로 다른 공종에 비해 상대적으로 비중이 작게 취급 되는 공종이다. 실제 현장에 근무한 건설기술자들은 공사의 품질과 공사의 안전을 확보하기 위해 여러 공정중 가장 중요한 공종으로 가설공사의 안전을 이야기 한다. 하지만, 가설공사는 공사 진행에 따라 공사현장 여러곳에서 동시에 여러 종류의 가설재가 설치되고, 그것을 사용하여 본 공사가 진행되기 때문에 안전관리가 어려운 것도 사실이다. 건설공사의 안전사고는 거의 가설공사에서 이루어진다고 해도 크게 틀리지는 않는다. 최근 들어 건축물이 대형화, 다양한 복합용도, 대규모 지하공간의 굴착. 초고층으로 바뀌어가는 건설 추세로 보아 가설공사의 중요성과 안전성은 절대 소홀히 할 수 없다. 본 연구의 목적은 IT 기술을 이용하여 건설공사에서 사용되는 가설자재중 동바리의 안전 확보를 연구목적으로 하며 가설공사의 안전사고를 방지하는 안전관리를 제안 하고자 한다.
