  • In a machine translation system, word sense disambiguation has an essential role in the proper translation of words when the target word can be translated differently depending on the context. Previous research on sense identification has mostly focused on adjacent words as context information. Therefore, in the case of nominal compounds, sense tagging of unit nouns mainly depended on other nouns surrounding the target word. In this paper, we present a practical method for the sense tagging of Korean unit nouns in a nominal compound. To overcome the weakness of traditional methods regarding the data sparseness problem, the proposed method adopts complement-predicate relation knowledge that was constructed for machine translation systems. Our method is based on a sentential form recovery technique, which recognizes grammatical relationships between unit nouns. This technique makes use of the characteristics of Korean predicative nouns. To show that our method is effective on text in general domains, the experiments were performed on a test set randomly extracted from article titles in various newspaper sections.

  • This study was designed to suggest an assessment tool for analyzing the characteristics of Korean phonetic contrast intelligibility among dysarthric individuals. The intelligibility deficit factors of phonetic contrast in Korean dysarthric patients were analyzed through stepwise regression analysis. The 19 acoustic-phonetic contrasts proposed by Kent et al. (1999) have been claimed to be useful for clinical assessment and research on dysarthria. However, the test cannot be directly applied to Korean patients due to linguistic differences between English and Korean. Thus, it is necessary to devise a Korean word intelligibility test that reflects the distinct characteristics of the Korean language. To identify the speech error characteristics of a Korean dysarthric group, a Korean word list was audio-recorded by 3 spastic, 4 flaccid, and 5 mixed type of dysarthric patients. The word list consisted of monosyllabic consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) real word pairs. Stimulus words included 41 phonemic contrast pairs and six triplets. The results showed that the percentage of errors in final position contrast was higher than in any other position. Unlike the results of previous studies, the initial-position contrasts were crucial in predicting the overall intelligibility among Korean patients.

  • Substantial amounts of research have been accumulated by the attempt to use linguistic styles as the dependent measure in conducting psychological research. This research was condoned to develope a Korean text analysis program(KLIWC) based on the English text analysis program, LIWC(Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count), and the program reflects the Korean linguistic characteristics and culture that is related with language. We made it possible to analyze agglutinative phrase of many morphemes by linguistic tagging, and basic form dictionary and inflection rule were built. In addition, the face-saving weeds and emotional words were included as the analysis variables. The process of development and characteristics of Korean text analysis have been reviewed, and future direction for the improvement of the program has been discussed.

  • This paper is an empirical study especially to understand recent Chinese internet banking users' behavior and intentions through the process quality, outcome quality, customer satisfaction, reuse and word of mouth on internet banking service. The results of this study are as follows. First, percieved process quality of internet banking service affects the outcome quality, and both quality have a direct relation to customer satisfaction. It is found that Chinese internet users perceive a difference between process quality and outcome quality of internet banking service. And the reuse of the internet banking is decided by customer satisfaction as well as the word of mouth of the internet banking. For successful internet banking business in China, internet marketers should recognize that the service quality consists of the process quality and the outcome quality, and they should organize a new campaign that takes this information into consideration. And considering the process quality effect, they should pay attention to service process as well as the direct merit of services.. And if an internet banking service properly meets customer demands, internet users would constantly use internet services and would share good experiences with their neighbors. Therefore the result of our study will be of working-level help for financial company in China.

  • Two experiments were conducted to investigate effects of word-frequency on semantic processing of Hangul. Stimuli were two syllable words, and exemplars and target words were different in the final consonant of the second syllable in the Exp 1 and in the final consonant of the first syllable in the Exp2. Exp 1 shows the results that subjects made more errors on low frequency target words and took longer times on high frequency exemplars than on controls. In Exp 2 subjects took longer times on high frequency examplar-low frequency target word conditions than on controls. These results support the predictions of dual process models and suggest that the use of phonological and visual information depends on word frequency. Phonological activation appears to be an optional rather than obligatory process.

  • Online and mobile games represent digital entertainment. Not only the game grows fast, but also it has been noted for unique business models such as a subscription revenue model and free-to-play with partial payment. But, a recent revenue mechanism, called a loot-box system, has been criticized due to overspending, weak protection to teenagers, and more over gambling-like features. Policy makers and research communities have counted on expert opinions, review boards, and temporal survey studies to build countermeasures to minimize negative effects of online and mobile games. In this process, speed was not seriously considered. In this study, we attempt to use a big data source to find a way of observing a trend for policy makers and researchers. Specifically, we tried to apply the Word2Vec data mining algorithm to news repositories. From the findings, we acknowledged that the suggested design would be effective in lightening issues timely and precisely. This study contributes to digital entertainment service communities by providing a practical method to follow up trends; thus, helping practitioners have concrete grounds for balancing public concerns and business purposes.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method utilizing only raw corpus without additional human effort for disambiguation of target word selection in English-Korean machine translation. We use two data-driven techniques; one is the Latent Semantic Analysis(LSA) and the other the Probabilistic Latent Semantic Analysis(PLSA). These two techniques can represent complex semantic structures in given contexts like text passages. We construct linguistic semantic knowledge by using the two techniques and use the knowledge for target word selection in English-Korean machine translation. For target word selection, we utilize a grammatical relationship stored in a dictionary. We use k- nearest neighbor learning algorithm for the resolution of data sparseness Problem in target word selection and estimate the distance between instances based on these models. In experiments, we use TREC data of AP news for construction of latent semantic space and Wail Street Journal corpus for evaluation of target word selection. Through the Latent Semantic Analysis methods, the accuracy of target word selection has improved over 10% and PLSA has showed better accuracy than LSA method. finally we have showed the relatedness between the accuracy and two important factors ; one is dimensionality of latent space and k value of k-NT learning by using correlation calculation.

  • Most of the previous automatic word spacing systems are not suitable to use for mobile devices with relatively low computing powers because they require many system resources. We propose an automatic word spacing system that requires reasonable memory usage and simple numerical computations for mobile devices with low computing powers. The proposed system is a two step model that consists of a statistical system and a rule-based system. To reduce the memory usage, the statistical system first corrects word spacing errors by using a modified hidden Markov model based on character unigrams. Then, to increase the accuracy, the rule-based system re-corrects miscorrected word spaces by using lexical rules based on character bigrams or more. In the experiments, the proposed system showed relatively high accuracy of 94.14% in spite of small memory usage of about 1MB.
