  • The purpose of this study was to compare the mineral status of postmenopausal vegetarian women with those of the omnivores, and to investigate the relationship between dietary pattern and minerals status in postmenopausal Korean women. The research group was composed of vegetarian women (n = 38), all of them were seven day adventists, who had been on vegetarian diet over 20 yrs. Their anthropometric measurements, dietary intakes, and blood mineral concentrations were compared to age matched omnivores controls (n = 38). The average age of vegetarians and omnivores were 60.7 yrs and 60.5 yrs, respectively and there was no significant difference. The mean daily energy intake of vegetarians and omnivores were 1518.5 kcal and 1355.5 kcal, respectively and their was no significant difference. The mean calcium intake of vegetarians (492.6 mg) was not significantly different from that of omnivores (436.6 mg). The vegetarians consumed significantly greater quantities of magnesium (p < 0.001), iron (p < 0.001), copper (p < 0.001), manganese (p < 0.001) and dietary fiber (p < 0.05). There were no significantly differences in serum calcium, magnesium and manganese levels between vegetarians and omnivores. However, serum levels of phosphorus (p < 0.01), iron (p < 0.05), ferritin (p < 0.01), zinc (p < 0.001) and copper (p < 0.05) were significantly lower than those of omnivores. In conclusion, vegetarian postmenopausal women may have low bioavailability of iron, zinc and copper. Therefore it was needed that further study on mineral bioavailability of vegetarian diet. • Looking at the current status of beverages sold from vending machines in subway stations in Seoul, it was found that carbonated beverages accounted for the highest percentage of beverages on sale in vending machines, representing 36 % of all beverages sold. Survey respondents purchased carbonated drinks or sports drinks containing high levels of sugar to quench their thirst. Investigation of the sugar content of beverages frequently sold in vending machines showed that a serving of carbonated beverage contained an average of 30.4 g of sugar, or as much as 50.1 g of sugar (equivalent 10 to 17 cubes; 1 cube = 3 g of sugar). This amount corresponded, on average, with 60 % of the WHO recommended daily sugar intake (50 g). Surprisingly, with certain carbonated beverages, drinking a single can is equivalent to consuming the total recommended daily sugar intake of 50 g.

  • This study was designed to propose a method to draft bodice block pattern from 3D body scan data. Subjects were ten elderly women in their 60's, who wear basic size(B: 94cm, W: 82cm) garment. Scanning was done using 3D whole body scanner(WB4, Cyberware). Measurements for 3D data and cross section were attained using Auto CAD, by which a upper bodice pattern for elderly women was drawn on the basis of short measured method. The results are as following: As for most items, no significant differences were shown between measurements from Martin's anthropometry and those from 3D scan data, suggesting measurement from 3D scan data could be used to draft a pattern. The drafting equations acquired were as follows; width of pattern=B/2+5.5, width of waist=W/2+3.5cm, dart amount=8cm. Dart distributions were 23%(B.P.) : 20%(front armpit) : 17%(side seam) : 18%(back armpit) : 15%(back protruded point) : 7% (center back line). Through wearing test using 5-point Likert scale, resultant pattern was evaluated as appropriate for elderly women's pattern to get over 4 point. As a result, it might be said that 3D scanning application is effective for elderly women in that it doesn't take time so much as Martin's anthropometry and that their body shape vary compared with those of young women.

  • Purpose - This research focused on women who enjoy watching Korean dramas and K-pop, as well as how their desire to imitate are influenced by their viewing habits. Due to the influence of their idols, women who aspire to copy and are influenced by their idols will desire to purchase Korean products. This cultural export strategy has effectively persuaded the global community, particularly women. Indonesia with a large population can be a reference for the industry to increase sales of South Korean beauty products, especially in the ASEAN region. Design/methodology - This research used a quantitative approach with an online questionnaire. This questionnaire had two steps: the pre-questionnaire and the questionnaire itself. The different measuring tools that were already in use when the data were being collected helped to determine how much each variable meant. As a part of this research project, 410 Indonesian women filled out the questionnaire in order to share their thoughts as they were the focus of the study. SMART PLS was used to analyze the data. Findings - One of the most essential findings from establishing the Korean Wave effect on purchase intention was the imitation intention variable. Someone who has the aspiration to be just like their idol will be willing to give anything in order to achieve that goal. One strategy is to buy things that are similar to the ones you want to imitate in order to stimulate demand for Korean products. People's imitation intention and attitude toward Korean products will increase as a result of Korean drama and K-pop elements that display one's idols with fashionable appearances and good-looking faces, which will lead to purchase intentions. Originality/value - The Korean Wave has had a beneficial impact on the intention to imitate and the attitude toward Korean items, both of which will favorably boost the intention to acquire Korean goods. In order to boost sales in international markets, particularly in Indonesia, the Korean business sector needs to increase the number of artists and singers it employs for product promotion. . Mutualism effect between the government, the entertainment industry, and the beauty product industry to increase sales of South Korean beauty products.

  • This study analyzes the effects of life course events and labor market conditions on the duration of career interruption among Korean women. The data were drawn from 'A Survey on the Women's Employment Interruption in Korea' conducted by the Korean Ministry of Gender Equality in 2009(currently the Korean Ministry of Gender Equality and Family). This study categorizes the duration of career interruption into three categories: (1) short term interruption(less than 12months), (2) short-medium term interruptio(12-35 months), (3) intermediate term interruption(36-59 months), (4) long term interruption(longer than 36 months), and then analyzes how demographic factors, labor market condition, and life events shape the timing of re-entry into the labor market among women. According to the findings, the jobs that are conducive to combining market work and mother's role expedite women's return to the labor market. Further, the younger, higher the level of human capital, and higher monthly wages that women earned before leaving the labor market, women are likely to experience short-term interruption(less than 12 months) rather than long-term interruption(longer than 60 months). Women who left from the labor market to care for kids are also likely to return to the labor market. However, women who have preschoolers are likely to experience long-term career interruption. These findings highlight the role of family supportive culture at the workplace in order for women to continue their employment while intensive family formation period. Furthermore, the finding that the discriminatory practices against women, in particular mother workers at the workplace lead women to exit from the market work calls for attention to establish family friendly workplace.
