Performance Analysis of Multi-Gigabit Wireless Transmission at THz WLAN-Type Applications

  • Optimal position of access point (AP) is important for multi-gigabit wireless transmission in terahertz (THz) wireless local area network (WLAN)-type applications, where there exist the THz characteristic multiple clusters in channel propagation. By considering the multiple clusters in THz indoor communications, this paper investigates the optimal AP position when two APs are issued for increasing the system capacity. Numerical results reveal that the central position of each AP within each half service region, which offers the shortest cumulated path length for line-of-sight paths, is optimal to achieve the maximal system capacity.

  • This paper presents a wired and wireless linked remote control system. Ethernet based network communication is used for long distance management and 2.4GHz RF network is adopted for the local area communication between the main network and the ballast. For the effective remote control and management including dimming using wired and wireless linked digital communication networks, control circuit of the ballast is implemented with fully digital circuit using MCU and EPLD. In this paper, the proper frame structure is proposed for the digital-remote lighting-control system and the detailed system configurations including fully digital controlled ballast for the induction lamp are described.

  • Nowadays, wireless local area networks are widely deployed so that stations can potentially associate with an access point. The AP selection strategy is one of the significant research areas for wireless local area networks. The selection strategy solves the relevant problem is which AP can be selected and associated with a station so that the efficient resource utilization can be obtained. Rather than merely choosing the AP with the strongest received signal strength, however, we calculate effective throughput for each neighboring AP and use it as a basis for AP selection. Referencing the throughput is better than referencing the signal strength only because the network may contain a severe load imbalance. We have performed computer simulations using OPNET modeler in order to verify the performance of the proposed scheme. The results show us that the proposed selection method outperforms that of the conventional one in terms of throughput and delay.

  • Many attempts have been made for the health and lives of patients at a remote site. but little attention has been given to emergency system using wireless or other intelligent networks. In this paper, shown is a remote emergency system which can be used in an ambulance. It possibly gives a great help to the patients who may lose their lives, in other words, gives pre-hospital cure to them being sent to the hospital. Doctors or specialists are able to give a quick help which may give a new life to patients. This system deal with very important patient's data-ECG, SpO$_2$, blood pressure, biomedical signal data etc. - as other emergency system. A good performance better than other system is many but shortly spoken as follows. First, this system is user friendly system activated in windows 2000 environment. Second, MPEG4 and ECG data sent to the other station for specilists can give a pre-hospital cure to patients in advance. Third, there exist effective algorithms to operate this system. Fourth, this system has been made with software mostly, so this system can be easily embedded in IBM compatible computer. In addition to this performance, for the better and reliable system, various tests were proceeded and recursively tested. Tests were made in EV-DO wireless network and Local Area Network. This mobile-fixed remote emergency system using wireless network like EV-DO network will give a great usage to needed area.

  • Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) have been developed independently. Then, many researchers have studied UMTS-WLAN interworking architecture for the efficiency. However, the transmission capacity difference of two networks causes the transmission quality degradation. Therefore, this paper proposes a UMTS-WLAN interworking architecture for Quality of Service (QoS). The proposed architecture is based on tight coupling and dynamically guarantees QoS by the mobility prediction method. The proposed architecture is simulated by ns-2. Performance experimental results show that the proposed architecture reduces the handover dropping probability comparing with the existing method and enhances the amount of receiving packets comparing with the method without guaranteeing QoS.

  • Mobile Wireless Sensor Network is an organized collection of sensor nodes and mobile sink nodes, in which the sensor node transmits the signal to the sink node. In real environment, there are many cases in which sinks have mobility caused by the people, the vehicle and etc. Since all nodes in the sensor networks have limited energy, many researches have been done in order to prolong the lifetime of the entire network. In this paper we propose Dynamic Local Update-based Routing Protocol(D-LURP) that prolong the lifetime of the entire network to efficiently maintain frequent location update of mobile sink static sensor nodes in Mobile WSNs. When the sink node moves out of the local broadcasting area the proposed D-LURP configures dynamically the local update area consisted of the new local broadcasting area and the previous dissemination node(DN) and find the path between the DN and the sink node, instead of processing a new discovering path like LURP. In this way the processing of broadcasting sink node's location information in the entire network will be omitted. and thus less energy will be consumpted. We compare the performances of the proposed scheme and existing Protocols.

  • Distributed localization algorithms are necessary for large-scale wireless sensor network applications. In this paper, we introduce an efficient node distribution based localization algorithm that emphasizes simple refinement and low system load for low-cost and low-rate wireless sensors. Each node adaptively chooses neighbor nodes for sensors, update its position estimate by minimizing a local cost function and then passes this update to the neighbor nodes. The update process considers a distribution of nodes for large-scale networks which have same density in a unit area for optimizing the system performance. Neighbor nodes are selected within a range which provides the smallest received signal strength error based on the real experiments. MATLAB simulation showed that the proposed algorithm is more accurate than trilateration and les complex than multidimensional scaling. The implementation on MicaZ using TinyOS-2.x confirmed the practicality of the proposed algorithm.

Backoff Schemes for Guaranteeing Delay QoS in Wireless Local Area Networks (무선 랜 상에서 지연 QoS 보장을 위한 백오프 방식)

  • 본 논문은 무선 랜 상에서 전송 지연을 보장하기 위한 백오프 방식을 제안한다. 이 방식은 전송되는 트래픽의 종류에 따라 백오프 시간을 할당하도록 설계되었으며, 기존의 IEEE 802.11 매체접근제어 방식을 그대로 유지하며, 보다 향상된 서비스 품질을 지원한다. 제안된 백오프 방식에서는 모든 트래픽을 실시간 트래픽과 비실시간 트래픽으로 구분하여 처리된다. 실시간 트래픽은 제안된 백오프 방식으로 처리되고, 비실시간 트래픽은 기존의 IEEE 802.11 방식에 의해 처리된다. 본 논문에서는 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 사용하여 제안된 백오프 방식을 성능 평가하였으며, 시뮬레이션 결과는 전송지연 관점에서 기존의 IEEE 802.11e 방식보다 성능이 향상됨을 보여준다.

  • This paper presents an efficient frequency offset (FO) estimation algorithm for the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based wireless local area networks (WLANS). The packet preamble imformation is utilized on the high rate WLAN standards adopted by the IEEE 802.11a. We present FO estimation schemes using diversity. In the simulation results, we prove that the presented schemes can improve the estimation performance compared with the convolutional scheme.

  • TTA는 지난 2월 21일, 프랑스 파리에서 개최된 WiMAX 이사회 회의에서 WiMAX 포럼 공인시험소 자격을 획득하였다. 이런 결과를 바탕으로 TTA는 2006년 9월 Mobile WiMAX 시험장비 도입을 시작으로 시험장비 검증과 모의 인증시험을 거쳐 12월부터 Mobile WiMAX 제품에 대한 WiMAX 포럼 공인 인증시험을 실시할 계획이다. 이에 본 고를 통해 현재 진행 중인 Mobile WiMAX 인증시험 개요 및 동향을 소개하고 자 한다. 1) IEEE802.16-2004 : IEEE Standard for Local and Metropolitan Area Networks-Part16: Air Interface for Fixed Wireless Access Systems
