This paper aims to integrate the previous models about mean object transfer latency in one framework and analyze the result through the computational experience. The analytical object transfer latency model assumes the multiple packet losses and the Internet of Things(IoT) environment including multi-hop wireless network, where fast re-transmission is not possible due to small window. The model also considers the initial congestion window size and the multiple packet loss in one congestion window. Performance evaluation shows that the lower and upper bounds of the mean object transfer latency are almost the same when both transfer object size and packet loss rate are small. However, as packet loss rate increases, the size of the initial congestion window and the round-trip time affect the upper and lower bounds of the mean object transfer latency.

In relation to digital elevation model(DEM) production using high resolution satellite imagery, existing studies present that DEM accuracy differently show according to land cover property. This study therefore proposes auto-selection method of window size for correlation matching according to land cover property of IKONOS Geo-level stereo image. For this, land cover classified image is obtained by IKONOS color image with four bands. In addition, correlation-coefficients are computed at regular intervals in pixels of the window-search area to shorten of matching time. As the results, DEM by the proposed method showed more accurate than DEM using the fixed window-size matching. We estimate that accuracy of the proposed DEM improved more than DEM by digital map and ERDAS in agricultural land.
This study aimed to compare filters for reducing speckle noise in ultrasound images using clinical liver images. We acquired the clinical liver ultrasound images, and noisy images were obtained by adding 0.01, 0.05, 0.10, and 0.50 intensity levels of speckle noise to the liver images. The Wiener filter, median modified Wiener filter, gamma filter, and Lee filter were designed for the noisy images by setting window sizes at 3×3, 5×5, and 7×7. The coefficient of variation (COV) and contrast to noise ratio (CNR) were calculated to evaluate noise reduction and various filters. Moreover, the filter with the highest image quality was selected and quantitatively compared to a noisy image. As a result, COV and CNR showed the noise improved result when the Lee filter was applied. Furthermore, the Lee filter image with a window size of 7×7 was noted to possess approximately a minimum of 1.28 to a maximum of 3.38 times better COV and a minimum of 2.18 to a maximum of 5.50 times better CNR than the noisy image. In conclusion, we confirmed that the Lee filter was effective in reducing speckle noise and proved that an appropriate window size needs to be set considering blurring.

Due to the increasing concerns about the buildings which have affected the global environment, most countries have enacted a regulation for the sustainability of domestic buildings. In 2008, the Korean government started to enact a regulation of apartment and office buildings for energy saving. Many research on the sustainable apartment building focuses on $84m^2$ or larger type in response to market demand; therefore, small size type such as $46m^2$ type needs to be researched. In addition, the research on the orientation and window to wall ratio of the building have been separately studied as a means of energy reduction; therefore, the research on correlation of the orientation and window to wall ratio hasn't been fully explored yet. This paper analyzes the energy demand of the apartment building as the change of orientation and window to wall ratio among $46m^2$ and $84m^2$ type. In conclusion, when reducing the window to wall ratio, energy demand was reduced, except when the orientation of the building was between from +10 to -20 from the south.
The determination of the blast protection level and the corresponding minimum load-bearing capacity for a laminated glass (LG) window is of crucial importance for safety and security design purposes. In this paper, the focus is given to the window response under near-field blast loading, i.e., where relatively small explosives would be activated close to the target, representative of attack scenarios using small commercial drones. In general, the assessment of the load-bearing capacity of a window is based on complex and expensive experiments, which can be conducted for a small number of configurations. On the other hand, nowadays, validated numerical simulations tools based on the Finite Element Method (FEM) are available to partially substitute the physical tests for the assessment of the performance of various LG systems, especially for the far-field blast loading. However, very little literature is available on the LG window performance under near-field blast loads, which differs from far-field situations in two points: i) the duration of the load is very short, since the blast wavelength tends to increase with the distance and ii) the load distribution is not uniform over the window surface, as opposed to the almost plane wave configuration for far-field configurations. Therefore, the current study focuses on the performance assessment and structural behaviour of LG windows under near-field blasts. Typical behavioural trends are investigated, by taking into account possible relevant damage mechanisms in the LG window components, while size effects for target LG windows are also addressed under a multitude of blast loading configurations.
In HEVC variable block size motion estimation, same search window data are duplicatedly used in each block size. It increases memory bandwidth, and it is difficult to exploit early termination. In this paper, largest block size and its corresponding smaller block sizes with same positions are performed at the same time. It reduces memory bandwidth and computation by reusing search window data and computation results. In the early termination, image quality can be degraded when it determines early termination by observing largest block size only, since smaller block sizes cannot be equally terminated due to their relative positions. So, in this paper, processing order of early termination is changed to perform smaller block sizes in turns. The designed motion estimation engine was described in Verilog HDL and it was synthesized and verified in 0.18um process technology. Its gate count and maximum operating frequency are 36,101 gates and 263.15 MHz, respectively.

Window buttons located on a task bar provide information about windows that have been open as well as active. When the number of buttons on the task bar increases, the button size gets smaller and as a result, it is more difficult to identify. This study proposes new alternatives of presenting window buttons to search for a target button efficiently. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the usability of the new. Factors manipulated in the experiment include 'button arrangement methods' and 'order of buttons'. The 'button arrangement methods' factor is composed of three levels, 'one line', 'changeable line', and 'grouping buttons'. The 'order of buttons' factor is composed of three levels, 'fixed order', 'click-right', and 'order control by user'. The results showed that the main effects were significant in search time. In subjective satisfaction, the interaction effect was also significant. The results could be applied to the design of small screens such as PDA or cellular phones.
In this paper, an effective method for reconstruction of stereoscopic image pair through the regularized adaptive disparity estimation is proposed. Although the conventional adaptive disparity window matching can sharply improve the PSNR of a reconstructed stereo image, but there still exist some problems of overlapping between the matching windows and disallocation of the matching windows, because the size of the matching window tend to changes adaptively in accordance with the magnitude of the feature values. In the proposed method, the problems relating to the conventional adaptive disparity estimation scheme can be solved and the predicted stereo image can be more effectively reconstructed by regularizing the extimated disparity vector with the neighboring disparity vectors. From the experimental results, it is found that the proposed algorithm show improvements the PSNR of the reconstructed right image by about 2.36${\sim}$2.76 dB, on average, compared with that of conventional algorithms.
In this paper, a method to detect lanes and obstacles from the images captured by a CCD camera fitted in an automobile is proposed, and a new terminology “Moving Window” is defined. Processing the input dynamic images in real time can cause quite a few constraints in terms of hardware. In order to overcome these problems and detect lanes and obstacles in real time using the images, the optimal size of “Moving Window” is determined, based upon road conditions and automobile states. The real time detection is made possible through the technique. For each image frame, the moving window is moved in a predicted direction, the accuracy of which is improved by the Kalman filter estimation. The feasibility of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated through the simulated experiments of freeway driving.

In case of developing a guide-rail type window cleaning robot, only the first prototype has been developed. In this study, it was considered that the size and the load of the window cleaning robot was not optimized, and through the structural analysis of the self-weight of the window cleaning robot, the stress concentration area was derived and the concentrated stress was quantified. Analysis showed that the upper rail shaft had a bending stress of 9.964Mpa and the bolt had a shear stress of 19.544Mpa. The results of this study will be used as basic data for designing future prototypes.
