  • Vibration condition monitoring of low-speed rotational slewing bearings is essential ever since it became necessary for a proper maintenance schedule that replaces the slewing bearings installed in massive machinery in the steel industry, among other applications. So far, acoustic emission(AE) is still the primary technique used for dealing with low-speed bearing cases. Few studies employed vibration analysis because the signal generated as a result of the impact between the rolling element and the natural defect spots at low rotational speeds is generally weak and sometimes buried in noise and other interference frequencies. In order to increase the impact energy, some researchers generate artificial defects with a predetermined length, width, and depth of crack on the inner or outer race surfaces. Consequently, the fault frequency of a particular fault is easy to identify. This paper presents the applications of empirical mode decomposition(EMD) and ensemble empirical mode decomposition(EEMD) for measuring vibration signals slewing bearings running at a low rotational speed of 15 rpm. The natural vibration damage data used in this paper are obtained from a Korean industrial company. In this study, EEMD is used to support and clarify the results of the fast Fourier transform(FFT) in identifying bearing fault frequencies.

  • Piezoelectric materials are well-utilized for transforming mechanical vibrations into electrical energy that can be stored and used to power a diversity of devices. In this work, these materials have been studied to improve the efficiency of a piezoelectric system, whereby the shape and vibration mode of a piezoelectric module was changed. The basic shape of the piezoelectric module used in this work comprises a width of 10 mm, a length of 30 mm, and a thickness of 0.2 mm. The structural design of the piezoelectric module is optimized using a Taguchi method to increase the corresponding electrical-energy generation. The maximum terminal voltage was defined as a characteristic value to evaluate the optimal design parameters. Through this work, we propose an optimal structure with an eccentric and centric mass; furthermore, the voltage increase of approximately 26% was obtained by comparing a general plate-vibrating piezosystem with an optimal plate-vibrating piezosystem.

  • A modeling of machined geometry and cutting force was proposed for the case of round shape machining, and the effects of internally machined profile are analyzed and its realiability was verified by the experiments of roundness tester, especially in boring operation in lathe. Also, harmonic cutting force model was proposed with the parameter of specific cutting force, chip width and chip thickness, and in this study, we can see that bored workpiece profile was also mapped into cutting force signal with this model. In general, we can calculated the theoretical lobe profile with arbitrary multilobe. But in real experiments, the most frequently measured numbers are 3 and 5 lobe profile in experiments. With this results, we can predict that these results may be applied to round shape machining such as drilling, boring, ball screw and internal grinding operation with the same method.

  • In this paper, assumed mode method on Euler beam theory is employed and signal distortion is considered to obtain the performances of a MEMS accelerometer which are a sensitivity and measurable frequency range(MFR). Not only the sensitivities and MFR but also the variations of dynamic responses and natural frequencies of the MEMS accelerometer are investigated for several sets of beam properties such as length, width, thickness and Young's modulus. It is stated that the variations of beam properties significantly influence the performances of the MEMS accelerometer and the relationship between sensitivities and MFR is inversely proportional to each other.

The latticed structure fabricated with dimension of 50cm in width and 50cm in height, the optical fiber, 50m in length, distributed and fixed on the latticed structure. Single mode fiber, a laser with 1,550nm in wavelength, 2${\times}$2 coupler were used. External sound signal applied to the fiber optic sensor net and the detected optical signals were compared and analyzed to the detected microphone signals against time and frequency domain. Based on the experimental results, fiber optic sensor net using Sagnac interferometer detected external sound frequency, effectively. • The enclosure with a small opened area is extensively used in power plants to reduce the propagating noise from transformers. The radiation impedance associated with the location and width of the opened area, and the geometric configurations of internal acoustic field is very important to determine the basic acoustic characteristics of this partial enclosure. In this study, two-dimensional rectangular chambers with opened areas are investigated to examine the acoustic properties of the enclosure. The mode expansions of the physical variables defined on boundary surfaces are introduced to derive a simple algebraic equation. The acoustic characteristics can be easily predicted by this analytical approach, and the results well agree with physical grounds. Physical concepts as results of this work will be helpful to use the partial enclosure as a noise control element.

  • A narrow-band dual TE$_{111}$ mode circular waveguide filter for Ku-Band satellite transponder was designed and manufactured based on a new model of the filter. We calculated the cavity size, pin polarizer depth and diameter, iris length and width, and used Bethe's Small Diffraction Theory and Chon's Correction Formular in order to obtain exact Result for each cavity. The designed dual model waveguide filter was manufactured with invar in order to maintain the thermal stability, and the filter performance was improved through the thermal test and vibration test to endure in the cosmic environment.

  • As the demand for slim laptops requires ion'-height optical disc drives, vibration problems of optical disc drives are of great concern. Additionally, with the decrease of a track width and a depth of focus in high density drives, studies on vibration resonance between mechanical parts become more important. From the vibration point of view, the performance of optical disc drives is closely related with the relative displacement between a disc and an objective lens which is controlled by servo mechanism. In other words, to read and write data properly, the relative displacement between an optical disc and an objective lens should be within a certain limit. The relative displacement is dependent on not only an anti-vibration mechanism design but also servo control capability. Good servo controls can make compensation for poor mechanisms, and vice versa. In a usual development process, robustness of the anti-vibration mechanism is always verified with the servo control of an objective lens. Engineers partially modify servo gain margin in case of a data reading error. This modification cannot correct the data reading error occasionally and the mechanism should be redesigned more robustly. Therefore it is necessary to verify a mechanism with respect to the possible servo gain plot. In this study we propose the experimental verification method far anti-vibration mechanism with respect to the existing servo gain plot. This method verifies axial vibration characteristics of optical disc drives on the basis of transmissibility. Using this method, we verified our mechanism and modified the mechanism for better anti-vibration characteristics.
