  • The structure-soil-structure interaction (SSSI) effect in adjacent structures may affect the liquefaction-induced damage of shallow foundation structures. The existing studies only analysed the independent effects on the structural dynamic response but ignored the coupling effect of height difference and distance of adjacent structures (F) on liquefied foundations on the dynamic response. Therefore, this paper adopts finite element and finite difference coupled dynamic analysis method to discuss the effect of the F on the seismic response of shallow foundation structures. The results show that the effect of the short structure on the acceleration response of the tall structure can be neglected as F increases when the height difference reaches 2 times the height of the short structure. The beneficial effect of SSSI on short structures is weakened under strong seismic excitations, and the effect of the increase of F on the settlement ratio gradually decreases, which causes a larger rotation hazard. When the distance is smaller than the foundation width, the short structure will exceed the rotation critical value and cause structural damage. When the distance is larger than the foundation width, the rotation angle is within the safe range (0.02 rad).

  • This study divided school age by considering a change in the stage of body growth by age in elementary schoolgirls with the use of body scan data, and considered by comparing body size characteristics by school age. Elementary schoolgirls' body shape cannot be divided clearly. However, ages 7-10 were bound into the same group for the majority of girth, width, and thickness items. 7-8 years old, 9-10 years old, and 11-12 years old were bound into the same group in most items except ages 9 and 10 for the height item. Thus, significant difference was indicated between groups. Accordingly, this study divided the school age into three periods such as early stage(ages 7-8), middle stage(ages 9-10), and late stage(ages 11-12) in consideration of the stages for elementary schoolgirls' body-shape growth. As a result of analyzing body size according to division of school age, the higher school age leads to continuous growth. The notable growth was indicated especially in the middle stage and late stage. Examining centering on typical items related to the clothing construction, there was notable increase in waist thickness and hip thickness between early and middle stages and in height, weight, breast girth, waist circumference, back length, breast width, and waist width between middle and late stages. On the other hand, hip circumference, hip width, breast thickness, and length between shoulder edges were indicated to grow relatively and evenly among early, middle, and late stages. The lateral form was shown a clear difference in the forms of early, middle, and late stages in height and length of the whole body shape and in side thickness. The early and middle stages belong to body shape that abdomen is projected to be curved. The late stage showed right body shape which is straight and stable form in posture.

  • Objective : Morphometric data for the lumbar posterior longitudinal ligament (PLL) was investigated to identify whether there is a difference in the morphometry of the PLL of the lumbar spine at each level with respect to the pattern of intervertebral disc displacement. Methods : In 14 formalin-fixed adult cadavers (12 males and 2 females), from L1 to L5, the authors measured the width and height of the PLL and compared them with other landmarks such as the disc and the pedicle. Results : Horizontally, at the upper margin of the disc, the central portion of the superficial PLL covered 17.8-36.9% of the disc width and the fan-like portion of the PLL covered 63.9-76.7% of the disc width. At the level of the median portion of the disc, the PLL covered 69.1-74.5% of the disc width. Vertically, at the level of the medial margin of the pedicle, the fan-like portion of the PLL covered 23.5-29.9% of the disc height. In general, a significant difference in length was not found in the right-left and male-female comparisons. Conclusion : This study presents the morphometric data on the pattern of intervertebral disc displacement and helps to improve the knowledge of the surgical anatomy of the lumbar PLL.

  • This study was conducted to find out the growth pattern of Pinus koraiensis plantation over 34 years, focusing on DBH, height, basal area and allometric change. Total increment (TI), mean annual increment (MAI) and correlation coefficient were calculated and compared with stand and dominants. Total increment and mean annual increment of both DBH and height of dominants were bigger than those of stand. The difference was apparently shown bigger in DBH than height. Unlike DBH and height the total increment and mean annual increment of basal area per hectare of dominants were distinctively smaller than those of stand. Furthermore MAI of dominant was increasing until age 42, while MAI of stand increased at early ages and then gradually decreased after culmination like MAIs of DBH and height. MAIs of basal area of dead trees at each measurement tended to increase until early age (18 years in this study), while it reached a peak and gradually decrease after that (21 years in this study). Correlation coefficient between DBH and height tended to decrease as both dominant and stand age and the difference between dominant and stand was not clearly shown over the measurement period. Correlation coefficients between DBH and crown width tended to decrease as the trees age and correlation coefficients of dominant were clearly shown smaller than that of stand. Correlation coefficients of height and crown width also was found to be similar to correlation coefficients between DBH and crown. Meanwhile correlation coefficient of height and crown width dropped more radically than coefficient of DBH and crown width as the trees age.

  • Numerical analysis of two dimensional incompressible laminar free jet flow was carried out by using finite difference SMAC scheme. Flow characteristics of free jet flow such as jet width, similarity of jet velocity and hypothetical origin were investigated for different Reynolds numbers of Re=30 and 100. The reliability of predictions were confirmed by comparison with exact solution. Non-dimensional velocity distribution showed similarity of jet flow velocity after initial region. In the region of laminar flow, the location of hypothetical origin becomes more distant with Reynolds number.

  • Multileaf Collimator is an essential tool for conformal therapy. We have measured the scallop penumbars of a poligon-shape field produced by Multileaf Collimator(MLC) with various leaf widths and the penumbra from conventional block, and compared the difference between them for the energy of photons, leaf widths, and angle of filed edges in order to find out the optimum leaf width. In addition, we have simulated a treatment of 20 factionations with errors of patient positioning. Optimum cost-benefit balanced leaf width is 8 mm.

  • An anomalous current characteristics which show the superposition of a low current level and high current level at the subthreshold region when SONOSFETs are in memory states were investigated. We have assumed this phenomena were resulted from the effect of parasitic transistors by LOCOS isolation and were modeled to a parallel equivalent circuit of one memory transistor and two parasitic transistors. Theoretical curves are well fitted in measured log I$_{D}$-V$_{G}$ curves independent of channel width of memory devices. The difference between low current level and high current level is apparently decreased with decrease of channel width of devices because parasitic devices dominantly contribute to the current conduction with decrease of channel width of memory devices. As a result, we concluded that the LOCOS isolation has to selectively adopt in the design of process for charge-trap type NVSM.VSM.

  • A two-dimensional transient heat transfer model for reactive gas assisted laser cutting process with a moving Gaussian heat source is developed using a numerical finite difference technique. The kerf width, melting front shape and temperature distribution were calculated by using the boundary-fitted coordinate system to handle the ejection of workpiece material and heat input from reaction and evaporation. An analytical solution for cutting front movement was adopted and numerical simulation was performed to calculate the temperature distribution and melting front thickness. To calculate the moving velocity of cutting front, the normal distribution of the cutting gas velocity was used. The kerf width was revealed to be dependent on the cutting velocity, laser power and cutting gas velocity.

  • This paper describes novel methods to construct fuzzy inference rules with gradient descent. The present methods have a constructive mechanism of the rule unit that is applicable in two parameters: the central value and the width of the membership function in the antecedent part. The first approach is to create the rule unit at the nearest position from the input space, for the central value of the membership function in the antecedent part. The second is to create the rule unit which has the minimum width, for the width of the membership function in the antecedent part. Experimental results are presented in order to show that the proposed methods are effective in difference on the inference error and the number of learning iterations.
