  • Three major trails of campus forest in Chungnam National University were selected to investigate the use impacts on environmental deterioration of trail according to the different amount of use. Rook-exposed, root-exposed, deepening, widening, diverged points as the deterioration types of trail which were surveyed at total of 92 points in major trail of campus forest in Chungnam National University. Major deterioration types of trail were widening, rock-exposure, root-exposure, in order of frequency. And trail conditions (trail slope and maximum depth) of deteriorated points were significantly different from those of non-deteriorated points.

  • Bimaxillary transverse width discrepancies are commonly encountered among patients with dentofacial deformities. Skeletal discrepancies should be diagnosed and managed appropriately with possible surgical corrections. Transverse width deficiencies can present in varieties of combinations involving the maxilla and mandible. We observed that in a significant proportion of cases, the maxilla is normal, and the mandible showed deficiency in the transverse dimension after pre-surgical orthodontics. We designed novel osteotomy techniques to enhance mandibular transverse width correction, as well as simultaneous genioplasty. Chin repositioning along any plane is applicable concomitant with mandibular midline arch widening. When there is a requirement for larger widening, gonial angle reduction may be necessary. This technical note focuses on key points in management of patients with transversely deficient mandible and the factors affecting the outcome and stability. Further research on the maximum amount of stable widening will be conducted. We believe that developing evidence-based additional modifications to existing conventional surgical procedures can aid precise correction of complex dentofacial deformities.

  • In television stereo system, to produce a realistic sound effect is very difficult because the distance between stereo speakers is very narrow. Many signal processing methods of widening the sound image for spatial impression have been studied. One of the methods of widening the sound image is using the Precedence Effect by reflected sound. However, this method does not work effectively in lower frequencies because of directivity of a speaker. In this paper, we propose an effective method of expanding stereo image using Precedence Effect and Phase Shifting method to produce a whole band frequency sound expansion. In experiments, we confirm the usefulness of the proposed stereo sound image expansion system.

  • Many signal processing methods of widening the sound image for spatial impression have been studied. Most typical methods of widening the sound image are related to the phase shifting and precedence effect. However, these methods are not effective in center sound image. As listener's position moves from center to outside, the center sound image is shifted to the speaker. That is to say, the directional localization of center sound image is unstable. In this paper, we propose a television audio system including center speaker, and analyze the role of center speaker using theory of Makida and precedence effect. In experiments, we confirm the usefulness of the center speaker for the stability of center sound image.

  • The widening of bridges under traffic condition brings to many problems. One of these is the internal stresses caused by different creep and shrinkage behavior of the existing bridge and that of the widened Bridge. This study was conducted to examine the effects of different creep and shrinkage behaviors between concretes. The results are as follows; Comparing the computational analysis results with the experimental study, it is shown that finite element analysis used in this study was well accorded with experimental results. And considering the shrinkage effects in widened bridges, joining-construction using the expanding concrete between the existing and widened bridge after at least three months from the day of completion of new bridge, is recommended.

  • Recent increasing traffic volumes have made many bridges on highway be widened. In widening of existing bridges, construction joints between old and new parts of concrete slabs are subjected to repeated traffic loads during placing and during of concrete. Therefore, the main goal of this paper is given to investigate the variation of the shear strength of widening deck. As a result, the occurrence of cracks in vibrating specimen is faster than that of non-vibrating one, and most of cracks are occurred at new concrete. And the difference of shear strength in vibrating specimen is larger than non-vibrating one, but the difference is negligible. Also, it shows the same result about direct and non-shrinkage joint specimen test.

  • The present study investigated the associations between CT measures and obstetric complications and family history of major mental illnesses. We had the hypothesis of diosthesis-stress model in the etiology of schizophrenia. We had the following findings. 1) Family history of major mental illnesses is inversely related to obstetric complications. 2) Prefrontal sulcal widening and family history of schizophrenia. are inversely related. 3) In female but not in male patients those with family history of schizophrenia tended to have less prefrontal sulcal widening and ventricular brain ratio. These results suggest that more genetic factors contribute to structural brain abnormalities in female than in male patients.

  • Subaortic stenosis in a 2.9kg, 3-month-old pug dog and a 11 kg, 4-month-old Rott -weiler dog showing signs of dyspnea, tachypnea, anorexia, exercise intolerance and depression was diagnosed with electrocardiography, thoracic radiography and ultrasonographic evaluation. In electrocardiography, PR interval widening, R wave amplitude increase in lead II in case 2, ST segment depression and left axis deviation in case 1 and 2 were identified. In thoracic radiographs, enlarged left ventricle and atrium, caudal displacement of left crus of diaphragm and caudal part of cranial mediastinum widening were identified in ventrodorsal view. In lateral view, left ventricular enlargement, secondary dorsal deviation of trachea and post-stenotic dilation of aorta were seen. Also, edematous pulmonary changes were shown in peri-hilar area. In ultrasonographic examination, left ventricular dilatation, pericardial effusion and subaortic valvular ridge were seen with real time B-mode in right parasternal long axis view. Aortic valve regurgitation was identified in color-Doppler mode.
