  • As the spectrum migrates to the higher frequency band around several milimeters wavelength for implementing wideband highspeed communications, it is more important to consider the channel attenuation characteristics of microwave signals. Microwave channels in 27GHz used in B-WLL system must be considered by compensating the power attenuation due to rainfall. So, in the design of one cell, the radiation power enhancement considering rainfall attenuation has an effort on the receiver in other cell as interference. In this paper we consider the main characteristics for B-WLL systems, optimum cell radius, and serviceable limit of heavy rainfall the design of the radiation power control system in case of enhancing the power that prevents from reducing the system capacity by interference.

  • It is difficult to detect and to track the moving targets like tanks and diesel vehicles due to the variety of terrain and moving of targets. It is possible to be happened the aliasing conditions as the difficulty of antenna deployment in the complex environment like the battle fields. In this paper, we study the problem of detecting and tracking of moving targets which are emitting wideband signals under severe spatial aliasing conditions because of the sparse arrays. We developed a direction of arrival(DOA) estimation algorithm based on subband MUSIC(Multiple Signal Classification) method which produces high-resolution estimation. In this algorithm, the true bearings are invariant regardless of changes of frequency bands while the aliased false bearings vary. As a result, the proposed algorithm overcomes the aliasing effects and improves the localization performance in sparse passive arrays.

  • In this paper, A compact ultra-wideband(UWB) bandpass filter(BPF) with WLAN notched filter has been proposed. H-shared slot is studied and adopted to tighten the coupling of inter-digital capacitor in order to improve the BPF's performance. Three pairs of tapered defected ground structures(DGS) are formed to assign their transmission zeros towards the out of band signal, thereby suppressing the spurious passband. Also Meander line slot is de#eloped to reject the undesired wireless local-area network(WLAN) radio signals. That's combining these three structures we obtain a small sized UWB BPF.

  • This article introduces a novel ultra wideband(UWB) bandpass filter(BPF) with sharp roll-off characteristics in stripline structure. The UWB characteristic is basically obtained from capacitive coupled cross resonator. The resonator has ${\lambda}/2$ length. And at the center of the resonator, two stubs are loaded, one is a ${\lambda}/8$ short-circuited stub and the other is a ${\lambda}/8$ open-circuited stub. The two stubs provide two attenuation poles at lower and upper cutoff frequencies. For input and output lines, two identical capacitively coupled lines have been installed to suppress the unwanted signals in the lower and upper stopbands. The filter has been designed for the U.S. UWB band(3.1~10.6 GHz) with two transmission zeros at 2.4 and 11.1 GHz. The filter has been realized with Low Temperature Core-fired Ceramic(LTCC) green tape which has the dielectric constant of 7.8. Measurement results agree well with HFSS simulation results. Insertion loss less than 0.7 dB and return loss better than 14 dB in the pass band have been measured. The group delay in the center frequency is 0.27 ns and the group delay variation within pass band is less than 0.5 ns. The size of the filter is $6{\times}18{\times}0.6\;mm^3$.

  • This paper presents design methods for dual-frequency(2.4/5.8GHz) active receiving antennas. The proposed active receiving antennas are designed to interconnect the output port of a wideband antenna to the input port of an active device of High Electron Mobility Transistor directly and to receive RF signals of 2.4GHz and 5.2GHz simultaneously where the impedance matching conditions are optimized by adjusting the length of $1/20{\lambda}_0$(@5.8GHz) CPW transmission line in the planar antenna The bandwidth of implemented dual-frequency active receiving antennas is measured in the range of 2.0GHz to 3.1GHz and 5.25GHz to 5.9GHz. Gains are measured of 17.0dB at 2.4GHz and 15.0dB at 5.2GHz. The measured noise figure is 1.5dB at operating frequencies.

  • In this paper, the development of wideband MIMO channel sounder and a pilot measurement result is described for research on the multi antenna radio propagation characteristics considering urban environment at microwave frequencies. We developed $4{\times}4$ MIMO(BW:100 MHz) channel sounder using the high speed switching mechanism and periodic pseudo random binary signals method considering next generation mobile communication system. A pilot measurement campaign at the urban area of Bundang is presented for confirmation of system performance. From the analysis of measurement data, wideband path loss exponent of 3.7 and 8 GHz band is 1.79 and 1.76. Average RMS delay spread is 200 ns and 42 ns respectively. From the experiment results, operation of this measurement system is confirmed considering research for a coverage, SNR and channel capacity in urban environment at microwave frequencies.

  • In this paper, minimum sampling rates and method of nonlinear characterization were suggested for low power, quasi-memoryless PAs. So far, the Nyquist rate of the input signal has been used for nonlinear PA modeling, and it is burdening Analog-to-digital converters for wideband signals. This paper shows that the input Nyquist rate sampling is not a necessary condition for successful modeling of quasi-memoryless PAs. Since this sampling requirement relives the bandwidth requirements for Analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) for feedback paths in digital pre-distortion systems, relatively low-cost ADcs can be used to identify nonlinear PAs for wideband signal transmission, even at severe aliasing conditions. Simulation results show that a generic memoryless nonlinear RF power amplifier with AMAM and AMPM distortion can be successfully identified at any sampling rates. Measurement results show the modeling error variation is less than 0.8dB over any sampling rates.

  • Next generation wireless communication systems require RF transceivers that enable multiband/multimode operations. Polar transmitters are known as good candidates for high data rate systems such as EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution), WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access), and WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) because they can obtain high efficiency by using efficient switched-mode RF power amplifiers. In this paper, we investigate the performance of a simple peak windowing scheme for the OFDM (Orthogonal frequency Division Multiplexing) polar transmitter, which requires no change of a receiver structure or no additional information transmission. The approach we employed is to apply the peak windowing scheme to the amplitude modulated signals of the polar transmitter to reduce the PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio). The BER (Bit Error Rate) and EVM (Error Vector Magnitude) performances are measured for various window types and lengths. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm mitigates out-of-band distortion introduced by clipping along with PAPR reduction.

  • In the wideband code division access (WCDMA) systems, a pilot channel is used to determine WCDMA network coverage, cell identification, synchronization, timing acquisition and tracking, user-set handoff, channel estimation, and so on. A wireless repeater, which is deployed in the urban area for the WCDMA system to meet the growing demand on wireless communication services, has the possibility to receive several pilot signals from a large number of base stations, however, cannot distinguish its service base station's signal among them. This pilot interference results in frequent handoffs in the user equipment, which degrades the radio reception, transmission efficiency, quality of service, and channel capacity and increases the unwanted power consumption. In this paper, thus, we propose a pilot pollution interference cancellation scheme using one of the adaptive estimation algorithms, normalized least mean square (NLMS), which is applicable to a wireless repeater. We carried out link-level and network-level computer simulations to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme in a wireless repeater. The simulation results verify the bit error rate (BER) improvement in the link level and the call drop probability improvement in the network level.

  • In this paper, a broadband single balanced mixer is presented using a wideband rat-race implementation by vertical coupling. Frequency is selected as $1.5{\sim}3$ GHz for RF, $1.64{\sim}3.14$ GHz for LO, and 140 MHz for IF signals. When LO signal with 6 dBm at 2.7 GHz is injected, a conversion loss of 7.5 dB and RF to LO isolation of 30 dB are obtained. Also, an average conversion loss of 10 dB, RF to LO isolation of 30 dB, and LO to IF isolation of 45 dB are obtained for frequency band of $1.5{\sim}3$ GHz.
