  • Using High-order Modulation in wideband system is sensitive to change of wireless channel environment as well as changes in ripple characteristics that can occur when baseband signals pass through RF equipment. Therefore, it is necessary to design and RF tuning that minimizes ripple characteristics change, which is difficult to implement systematically and takes a long time. In this paper, we analyze the fixed ripple characteristics of the baseband signal distored through the RF transmitting and receiving equipment. And the function of compensating the compensation filter by the modem receiver is implemented in 256 TCM. Also, it is confirmed that SNR and received sensitivity are improved by applying a digital compensation filter in a channel with poor RF equipment ripple characteristics.

  • This paper presents a wideband ${\Delta}{\Sigma}$ fractional-N frequency synthesizer for a multi-band single chip CMOS RFIC transceivers. A wideband VCO utilizes a 6-bit switched capacitor array bank for 2340~3940 MHz frequency range. VCO frequency calibration circuit is designed for optimal capacitor bank code selection before phase locking process. It finishes the calibration process in $2{\mu}s$ over the whole frequency band. The LO generation block has selectable multiple division ratios of ${\div}2$, ${\div}16$, and ${\div}32$ to generate LO I/Q signals for T-DMB/DAB/FM Radio systems in L-Band (1173~1973 MHz), VHF-III (147~246 MHz), VFH-II (74~123 MHz), respectively. The measured integrated phase noise is quite low as it is lower than 0.8 degree RMS over the whole frequency band. Total locking time of the ${\Delta}{\Sigma}$ frequency synthesizer including VCO frequency calibration time is less than $50{\mu}s$. The wideband ${\Delta}{\Sigma}$ fractional-N frequency synthesizer is fabricated in $0.13{\mu}m$ CMOS technology, and it consumes 15.8 mA from 1.2 V DC supply.

  • This paper dealt with the frequency component analysis of acoustic signals produced by corona and series-arc discharges as a diagnostic technique for closed-switchboards. Corona and series-arc discharge were simulated by a needle-plane electrode and an arc generator specified in UL1699, respectively. Acoustic signal was detected by a wideband acoustic sensor with a frequency bandwidth of 4 Hz~100 kHz (-3 dB). We analyzed frequency spectrums of the acoustic signals detected in various discharge conditions. The results showed that acoustic signals mainly exist in ranges from 30 kHz to 60 kHz. From the experimental results, an acoustic detection system which consists of a constant current power supply (CCP), a low noise amplifier (LNA) and a band pass filter was designed and fabricated. The CCP separates the signal component from the DC source of acoustic sensor, and the LNA has a gain of 40 dB in ranges of 280 Hz~320 kHz. The high and the low cut-off frequency are 30 kHz and 60 kHz, respectively. We could detect corona and series-arc discharges without any interference by the acoustic detection system, and the best frequency is considered in ranges of 30 kHz~60 kHz.

  • It is necessary to find characteristic phenomena related with permittivity differences for classification of liquid characteristics. If these phenomena can be remotely detected and characteristics can be extracted, it will be very useful in finding flammable liquid materials and classifying substances of these liquids. Therefore, in this paper, reflection and transmitted signals were analyzed from three receiving antennas with one transmitting antenna using wideband electromagnetic wave signals. Frequency response characteristics of reflected or transmitted signals are different according to characteristics of liquid materials. However, conventional FFT methods cannot be applied due to problems of low resolution caused by data windowing distortion. To minimize these problems, eigenvector analysis method was applied for high resolution spectrum estimation of received signals. From these results, it can be shown that classification of many kinds of liquids are possible using peak frequencies and corresponding peak power values of spectrum estimates obtained from various liquid materials.

  • The PhotoAcoustic Microscopy (PAM) has been proved to be a useful tool for biological and medical applications due to its high spatial and contrast resolution. PAM is based on transmission of laser pulses and reception of PA signals. Since the strength of PA signals is generally low, not only are high-performance optical and acoustic modules required, but high-performance electronics for imaging are also particularly needed for high-quality PAM imaging. Most PAM systems are implemented with a combination of several pieces of equipment commercially available to receive, amplify, enhance, and digitize PA signals. To this end, PAM systems are inevitably bulky and not optimal because general purpose equipment is used. This paper reports a PA signal receiving system recently developed to attain the capability of improved Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and Contrast to Noise Ratio (CNR) of PAM images; the main module of this system is a low noise, wideband signal receiver that consists of two low-noise amplifiers, two variable gain amplifiers, analog filters, an Analog to Digital Converter (ADC), and control logic. From phantom imaging experiments, it was found that the developed system can improve SNR by 6.7 dB and CNR by 3 dB, compared to a combination of several pieces of commercially available equipment.

  • The effect of wideband FDM-FM signal on binary CPSK signal in an interchannel interference environment has been investigated. A general equation of the bir error rate of binary CPSK signal with cochannel and adjacent channel interference from FDM-FM signal has been derived. The numerical results are given in graphs as the functions of carrier to noise ratio (CNR), carrier to interference ratio(CIR) and normalized carrier separation between PSK and FM signals. The results obtained can be used om desogmomg tje freqiemcy allocation, bandwidths and powers of PSK and FM signals in same radio frequency (RF) bands.

  • This paper presents a novel respiration rate estimation method based on joint amplitude and time of arrival (TOA) using impulse-radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) radar signals. Through analysis of the affect of body-rocking, it is shown that body-rocking information does not distort the respiration rate and exists at integer multiples of the body-rocking rate from the respiration rate. Based on the analysis, the convolution of the temporal sequence of the maximum amplitude and that of the TOA is proposed. The analysis results show that the frequency components of respiration are improved more than 10dB compared with those obtained using other existing methods.

  • In this study, an ultra-wideband(UWB) signal model is considered to estimate the angle-of-arrivals(AOAs) of clusters in an UWB indoor-to-outdoor communication environment having random angle spreads. A conventional AOA algorithm for UWB estimates the directions of both clusters and multipath signals together and so has complex estimation procedure. In order to solve that problem, we propose a new clustered AOA estimation algorithm. The estimation technique based a well-known MUSIC algorithm is proposed and the estimates of the AOA on received clusters are obtained using the proposed technique. The proposed model and estimation technique are verified through computer simulations.

  • There are several methods for the time delay estimation between signals to two receivers. Among these methods, Generalized Cross Correlation (GCC), which estimates the relative delay from the cross-correlation between the different signals at the two receivers, is a traditionally well-known method. However, when using a narrow band Continuous Wave (CW) signal, the GCC method degrades the estimation performance from relatively higher signal-to-noise ratio than when using a wideband signal. To improve this phenomenon, this paper examines four different pre-processors for GCC using narrow band single frequency signals. Simulation shows that the performance gain of the preprocessed GCC is up to 9 dB for a 100 msec CW signal as well as up to 4 dB for a 1 s CW signal.

  • This paper presents an active noise cancelling model using wavelet transform and subband filter banks based on adaptive filter. The analysis filter banks decompose input and error signals into QMF filter banks of lowpass and highpass bands. Each filter bank uses wavelet filter with dyadic tree structure. The decomposed input and error signals are iterated by adaptive filter coefficients of each subband using filtered-X LMS algorithm. The synthesis filter banks make output signal of wideband with perfect reconstruction to prepare adaptive filter output signals of each subband. The analysis and synthesis niter hants use conjugate quadrature filters for Pefect reconstruction. Also, The delayed LMS algorithm model for on-line identification of error path transfer characteristics is used gain and acoustic time delay factors. The proposed adaptive active noise cancelling modelis suggested by system retaining the computational and convergence speed advantage using wavelet subband filter banks.
