  • A wideband circularly polarized (CP) antenna with a single feed is proposed for use in global navigation satellite systems. Its primary radiation elements are composed of two orthogonal bowtie dipoles, which are equipped with double-printed vacant-quarter rings to allow direct matching of the antenna to a single $50-{\Omega}$ coaxial line and to produce CP radiation. The crossed bowtie dipole is appropriately incorporated with a planar metallic reflector to produce the desired unidirectional radiation pattern as well as to achieve a wideband characteristic in terms of impedance matching and axial ratio (AR) bandwidths. The designed antenna was fabricated and measured. The prototype antenna with an overall 1.2-GHz frequency size of $0.48{\lambda}_o{\times}0.48{\lambda}_o{\times}0.25{\lambda}_o$ produced a measured ${\mid}S_{11}{\mid}$<-10 dB bandwidth of 1.05-1.79 GHz and a measured 3-dB AR bandwidth of 1.12-1.64 GHz. It also showed right-hand CP radiation with a small gain variation (${\pm}0.3dB$) and high radiation efficiency (>93%) over the operational bandwidth.

  • A small sized ceramic dielectric patch antenna is designed and implemented for GPS/GLONASS combined receiver, and it shows a wideband characteristics with circular polarization. For the miniaturization of the antenna, high-permittivity dielectric material is used, and the wideband characteristics with low axial-ratio is achieved by using dual feed with 90$^{\circ}$ phase difference. The measured data of the manufactured antenna show that the bandwidth is 242 MHz, the axial ratio is less than 3 dB, the half-power beam-width is more than 112$^{\circ}$, and the antenna satisfies the required characteristics of the GPS/GLONASS antenna.

  • In this paper, a SWB (Super-WideBand) dipole antenna with self-complementary structure is proposed for signal intelligence. The proposed antenna consists of a self-complementary dipole antenna and a tapered balun for balanced feeding. The measured -10 dB reflection bandwidth of the proposed antenna is more than 28:1 (0.73-20 GHz) and 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth is 3.25:1 (1.91-6.22 GHz) with RHCP (Right Hand Circular Polarization) at +z direction. The measured radiation patterns are omni-directional in lower frequency band and bi-directional in higher frequency band. The measured peak gain within -10 dB reflection bandwidth varies from 2.83 dBi to 7.66 dBi.

  • In this study, a design method for a circular polarization patch antenna operating at a frequency 1.5 GHz~1.7 GHz was studied. To obtain the wide bandwidth and high gain, air substrate between patch and ground plane was applied. The impedance bandwidth is improved by adjusting the sizes of patch, the distance between main patch and ground plate, the length of internal slots, the position of feeding point, the length of external stub, etc. The antenna is designed and simulated for an operation in the frequency range of 1.5GHz~1.7GHz band. The results show that antenna characteristics such as return loss, gain, axial ratio, radiation patterns are appropriate for the satellite navigation system.

  • This paper proposes an aperture coupled circular polarized patch antenna operating at ISM band(5GHz). For improving the characteristic and performance of broadband and circular polarization at single circular polarized patch antenna. We designed and analyzed the sequentially rotated arrayed(SRA) using phase delay of 0$^{\circ}$, 90$^{\circ}$, 180$^{\circ}$, 270$^{\circ}$and 0$^{\circ}$, 45$^{\circ}$, 90$^{\circ}$, 135$^{\circ}$. Experimental result, the SRA antenna using phase delay of 90$^{\circ}$and 45$^{\circ}$are improved at the wideband and axial ratio. Also, the SRA antenna using phase delay of 45$^{\circ}$verified that it is better bandwidth and axial ratio than the SRA antenna using phase delay of 90$^{\circ}$.

  • In this paper, the design methodology of a corrugated conical horn antenna is proposed to be obtain wide-band properties over the full range of frequencies in the Ku-band. In order to improve the properties of the corrugated conical horn antenna, such as its gain, VSWR, co-polarization to cross-polarization ratio and wide-bandwidth, two types of mode matching converters are implemented within it. One is located at the end of the circular waveguide, while the other is positioned in front of the horn-flare section. The properties of the antenna are analyzed and compared according to the position of the proposed converters through simulations. In the comparison of the antenna performance in the case where the VSWR, co-polarization to cross-polarization ratio and antenna gain over the Ku band of 12-18 GHz are less than 2, greater than 30dB and 20dB respectively, the former antenna exhibits greater stability and a wider frequency band than the latter from the viewpoint of transmitting and receiving signals simultaneously. Therefore, considering the gain, VSWR, radiation pattern and bandwidth, the horn antenna structure in which the mode matching converter is implemented inside the circular waveguide has better performance than the other.

  • In this paper, radio propagation in a subway tunnel is investigated using fan beam antennas, circular polarization antennas and directional antennas at 2.4㎓ and 5.8㎓ band, respectively. The results of narrowband channel measurements show that received power level for NLOS(Non-Line-Of-Sight) path is decreased drastically as compared with LOS(Line-Of-Sight) path. Wideband channel measurements are obtained using a PN sliding correlation method. The parameters of the channel such as mean access delay and RMS delay spread are compared as to different types of directional beam at IEEE 802.11 WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) band including 2.4㎓ and 5.8㎓ bands, respectively.
