휠체어 사용자를 위한 업무환경의 물리적 요소에 관한 기초 연구 - 워크스테이션과 그 주변 환경을 중심으로 - (A Basic Study on the Physical Factors of Work Environment for Wheelchair user - Focused on the Workstation and Its Surrounding -)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the physical factors of work environment and to establish the evaluation factors for office design for wheelchair users. This study is based on the existing research for office environmental factors; and then clarifies the physical factors that are suitable for circumstances of wheelchair users. These factors are composed three physical factors which are space, furniture arrangement, and ambient condition and then each of these factors has detailed several elements. Futhermore, comparing physical factors between a non-wheelchair user and a wheelchair user with work environment is analyzed on the assumption using the system furniture on the market. This study is expected to be used as basic information to provide the way of improving office space plan for wheelchair user in workplace. This resource can serve as a checklist when renovating, re-designing or building a new office space for wheelchair users. The evaluation of office environmental factors for wheelchair users who work in public and/or private companies is needed for the next research.

휠체어사용자용 화장실의 규격기준에 대한 연구 (A Study on Standards of Wheelchair User Accessible Toilet Rooms)

  • Purpose: The diverse users and the increase of power wheelchair users have made it difficult to apply the standards of Wheelchair user accessible toilet rooms for the existing law and BF-certification. To address these issues, the standards of the relevant laws have been improved (Ministry of Health and Welfare, 2018), but there are still many problems. In this study, problems with the standards for Wheelchair user accessible toilet rooms in Korea are analyzed by comparing national and international standards. In addition, improvements to standards for Wheelchair user accessible toilet rooms will be suggested. Method: It presents improvement for standards of Wheelchair user accessible toilet rooms by comparing national, international standard and standards of many countries. Korean standard, International Standard(ISO 21542), American Standard(ADA Standards), German Standard(DIN 18040-1), Austrian Standard($\ddot{O}NORM$ B 1600) and Swiss Standard(Norm SIA 500) were investigated and analyzed. Results: Korea's standards differ from the ISO and the Standards of other countries in many ways, so there is a need for realignment. Specifications for disabled toilets and clear criteria for the size, shape, and location of sanitary appliances in toilets that are practically available to wheelchair users should be provided. Considering the increasing number of disabled toilet users, the installation of various disabled toilet rooms should be considered considering the user characteristics of those who can walk and wheelchair users. Implication: Recent partial improvements to relevant laws cannot meet the requirements of various users. Therefore, comprehensive and clear standard should be presented that take into account changing society and the environment.

  • This paper proposes a prototype of a safe and reliable wheelchair robot with Human Robot Interaction (HRI). Since the wheelchair users are usually the handicapped, the wheelchair robot must guarantee the safety and reliability for the motion while considering users intention, A single color CCD camera is mounted for input user´s command based on human-friendly gestures, and a ultra sonic sensor array is used for sensing external motion environment. We use face and hand directional gestures as the user´s command. By combining the user´s command with the sensed environment configuration, the planner of the wheelchair robot selects an optimal motion.   • As the ageing population grows around the world, the demand for electric wheelchairs, an important mobility assistance device for the disabled and elderly, is gradually increasing. Therefore, a number of studies related to intelligent wheelchairs are actively underway to improve safety and comfort for wheelchair users. However, previous collision avoidance studies for intelligent wheelchairs have concentrated on collision avoidance methods with the shortest distance and by only changing either velocity or heading angle, rather than considering the forces exerted on the user. If a collision avoidance algorithm that does not consider these forces is applied to an intelligent wheelchair, there is a possibility of an accident due to falling as wheelchair users are generally disabled and elderly people. In this paper, we propose a collision avoidance algorithm which minimizes the forces exerted on a wheelchair user by minimizing the variation of the wheelchair's velocity and heading angle when the sizes, positions, velocities, and heading angles of a wheelchair and a moving obstacle are known.

  • An online suit-customizing system for the special accessibility needs of wheelchair users should be developed because the demand for business suits by wheelchair users involved in economic activities has increased. This study develops a user interface an online customizing system for men's suits specialized for wheelchair users. This study used a five-step approach: (1) search for online men's suits customizing system in web porter sites, (2) select three sites based on three terms, (3) heuristic testing with five web specialists, (4) development of a system user interface based on suggestions for improvement from the heuristic test, (5) usability testing of the user interface prototype by 10 disabled men in wheelchairs. The interface of Company S had high ratings on interactivity, accessibility, informativeness, and consistency in the heuristic test results; subsequently, a user interface was developed based on suggestions for improvement from the heuristic test. This online user interface for customizing men's suits provides better usability to wheelchair users than existing online interfaces aimed at the non-disabled and disabled; consequently, this study contributes to the commercialization of an online customizing system for men's suits specializing in serving wheelchair users.

휠체어 사용자를 위한 한국어판 WUSPI의 신뢰도와 타당도 (The Reliability and Validity of Korean Version of the Wheelchair User's Shoulder Pain Index in Wheelchair Users)

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to establish the reliability and validity of the Wheelchair User's Shoulder Pain Index (WUSPI), which was translated into Korean for long-term wheelchair users. This index measured 15 functional activities, including transfer, self-care, wheelchair mobility and general activities. METHODS: To assess test-retest reliability, 23 long-term wheelchair users completed this self-administered index twice within the same day. Reliability was determined by the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), and Cronbach's alpha was used to measure internal consistency. To examine concurrent validity, 21 long-term wheelchair users completed the questionnaire, and we examined the correlation between the index score and the shoulder range of motion measurements. RESULT: The results showed that the intraclass correlation for test-retest reliability of the total index score ranging from .88 to .99 was good to excellent. Additionally, Cronbach's alpha was .96. The internal consistency indicated excellent. Concurrent validity showed negative correlations of total index score to range of motion measurements of shoulder flexion (rho=-.58), extension (rho=-.09), abduction (rho=-.59), external rotation (rho=-.07) and internal rotation (rho=-.3), suggesting a relationship of total index score to loss of shoulder range of motion. CONCLUSION: The Korean WUSPI shows not only high reliability and internal consistency, but also concurrent validity with loss of shoulder flexion and abduction.

휠체어를 사용하는 성인 남성 장애인의 의복실태 조사 (A Research Study on the Actual Conditions of Clothing of Disabled Men using Wheelchair)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the actual conditions of clothing of disabled adult men using wheelchair, to understand dissatisfactions and problems in wearing garment, and to construct basic data to development of the formal wear for wheelchair user. This study conducted survey of 162 men using wheelchair who regularly enjoy the sports for disabled people or who work in society. The results of this study are follows. The majority of wheelchair user tend to wear garment lying or seating. Therefore, they prefer garments that can be easily put on and off. They were dissatisfied mostly with the size of ready-made garment. More than 75% of the subjects tend to repair the purchased formal wear. Shoulder width and bust circumference are too small, jacket length, sleeve length, and slacks length are too big for disabled men using wheelchair. More than 93% subjects tend to prefer T-shirts, because of comfort and easiness to move. The men using wheelchair consider the function and the hygiene of fabric material for T-shirts as the important end.

Design of Case-based Intelligent Wheelchair Monitoring System

  • In this paper, it is aim to implement a wheelchair monitoring system that provides users with customized medical services easily in everyday life, together with mobility guarantee, which is the most basic requirement of the elderly and disabled persons with physical disabilities. The case-based intelligent wheelchair monitoring system proposed in this study is based on a case-based k-NN algorithm, which implements a system for constructing and inferring examples of various biometric and environmental information of wheelchair users as a knowledge database and a monitoring interface for wheelchair users. In order to confirm the usefulness of the case-based k-NN algorithm, the SVM algorithm showed an average accuracy of 84.2% and the average accuracy of the proposed case-based k-NN algorithm was 86.2% And showed higher performance in terms of accuracy. The system implemented in this paper has the advantage of measuring biometric information and data communication regardless of time and place and it can provide customized service of wheelchair user through user friendly interface.

  • 본 논문에서는 지능형 휠체어를 위한 시선 인식 인터페이스에 대해 제안한다. 시선 인식 인터페이스는 조이스틱을 움직이기 힘든 중증 장애인을 위해 시선 인식 및 추적을 이용하여 전동휠체어를 움직일 수 있게 하는 사용자 인터페이스이다. 지능형 휠체어는 시선인식 및 추적 모듈, 사용자 인터페이스, 장애물 회피 모듈, 모터 제어 모듈, 초음파 센서 모듈로 구성된다. 시선인식 및 추적 모듈은 적외선 카메라와 두개의 광원으로 사용자 눈의 각막 표면에 두 개의 반사점을 생성하고, 중심점을 구한 뒤, 동공의 중심점과 두 반사점의 중심을 이용하여 시선을 인식하고 추적 한다. 제안된 방법의 시선 인식 인터페이스는 실험을 통해 시선을 이용하여 지능형 휠체어에 명령을 하달하고 지능형 휠체어가 임의로 설치된 장애물을 감지하고 정확하게 장애물을 회피 할 수 있음을 보였다.

비평탄 지형에서의 경사 인식을 통한 전동 휠체어 제어 알고리즘 개발 (Design of an Electric Wheelchair Control Algorithm by Slope Recognition on uneven terrain)

  • 본 논문은 경사 인식을 통한 비평탄 지형에서의 전동 휠체어 제어 알고리즘에 관한 내용이다. 최근 고령자가 인구가 급격하게 증가되고 있으며, 이에 따라 휠체어 사용 인구 또한 급격하게 증가되고 있다. 하지만 대부분의 휠체어는 사용자의 안전성을 확보할 수 있는 어떠한 장치 없이 사용자가 직접 제어하고 있다. 이로 인해 경사로에서는 중력의 영향으로 인한 차량 제어에 어려움을 겪게 된다. 이에 본 논문에서는 차량이 경사지에서 이동할 경우 평지에서 이동하는 것과 유사한 모션제어를 수행할 수 있도록 차량 제어 알고리즘을 제안한다. 이때 다른 센서를 적용하지 않고 사용자의 제어 입력에 대비 차량의 이동 상태를 파악하여 차량이 경사지에 이동하는 과정에서 발생하는 오차를 인식하여 이를 최소화 할 수 있도록 제어기를 구성함으로써 차량이 사용자가 원하는 상태로 제어할 수 있도록 한다. 이러한 경사에 의해 발생하는 오차 및 이에 대한 차량제어에 대해 시뮬레이션을 통해 이를 검증하였다.
