휠체어 탑승 개조버스의 안전도 연구 (Study of Safety Tolerance for Wheelchair Bus Crashworthiness)

  • The Korean traffic systems for transportation vulnerable are still under development and their social life are limited even if the traffic environment systems are developed consistently. To secure his/her mobility right, it has been required to set up the particular system for the traffic welfare, for example the express and intercity bus operations for wheelchair users. The express and intercity bus development for wheelchair users based on the original bus model has been performed. This study has investigated the safety tolerance for the bus stiffness, rollover and side impact characteristics to ensure occupant safety using the finite element models. The wheelchair bus model showed the improved crashworthiness according to the partially reinforced structure and better safety tolerance for the wheelchair users.

Autonomous Navigation System for Power Wheelchair System

  • The power wheelchair is an important and convenient mobility device. The demand of power wheelchair is increasing for assistance in mobility. In this paper we proposed a robotic wheelchair for mobility aid to reduce the burden from the disabled. The main issue in an autonomous wheelchair is the automatic detection and avoidance of obstacles and going to the pre-designated place. The proposed algorithm detects the obstacles and avoids them to drive the wheelchair to the desired place safely with panning scan from sensors of distance measurement and fuzzy control. By this way, the disabled will not always have to worry about paying deep attention to the surroundings and his path.

전동휠체어의 벽면추종 기법에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Wall Following Method of the Motorized Wheelchair)

  • The objective of the research reported in this paper is to design locomotion system of the motorized wheelchair, to develope the wall following algorithm. The indoor navigation of a motorized wheelchair can be based on the wall following techniques. In this paper, it is proposed to enhance stability and efficiency using the 3 ultrasonic sensors arranged at a same perpendicular pivot. Using this method, the angle between the motorized wheelchair and the wall is detected and the range of control commands has been increased. For the better stability, the calculated slope of a wall using LSLF algorithm was fed back to the control part. By adapting the suggested algorithm and method, the motorized wheelchair could follow a wall in 4 seconds, for a change of distance between the wheelchair and wall from 30 to 100cm.

Respiration Rate and Oxygen Intake by Change of Wheelchair Backrest Angle

  • This study was purposed to provide basic information on the correct application of a wheelchair's backrest angle by investigating the change in cardiopulmonary function according to backrest angle during propulsion. This study examined the effects of the wheelchair's backrest angle on the cardiopulmonary function by varying the angle to $0^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$ and $20^{\circ}$ with a propulsion velocity of 60 m/min. The experimental parameters were respiration rate, oxygen consumption rate and oxygen consumption rate/kg which were measured by a portable wireless oxygen consumption meter (COSMED, $K4b^2$). The results of the study were as follows: 1) There were no statistically significant differences in respiration rates due to changes in the wheelchair backrest angle (p>.05). 2) There were statistically significant differences in oxygen consumption rates due to changes in the wheelchair backrest angle (p<.05). 3) There were also statistically significant differences in the oxygen consumption rate/kg due to changes in the wheelchair backrest angle (p<.05). In conclusion, changes in the backrest angle of wheelchairs during propulsion influences oxygen consumption rates and heart rates, while respiration rates are not affected. Therefore, a training program for good seating and posture needs to be provided, and the wheelchair seating system should be equipped with the unadjustable-angle wheelchair to reduce the functional load on the cardiopulmonary system.

Problem Analysis and Recommendations for Using Manual Wheelchair for One-hand Users

  • Objective: This study was conducted for one-hand users including hemiplegic clients currently using general folding manual wheelchairs, so as to analyze their specific problems and recommend solutions regarding usage. Background: Traditional manual wheelchairs require considerable use and control of both hands for operation, thus adaptations become necessary for individuals with asymmetrical use of hands. Method: Thirty hemiplegic clients who were admitted to rehabilitation and convalescent hospitals participated as subjects. The research tools were general folding manual wheelchairs commonly used by people with impaired gait, and the Wheelchair Skills Tests (WST) WST-M/WCU 4.1 version was adopted as the assessment tool. All participants were asked to fill out questionnaires on demographics and wheelchair usage characteristics. Assessment procedures were performed with currently used manual wheelchairs and with/without the use of foot to control the wheelchair. Results: When the participants drove folding manual wheelchairs without the use of foot, even the lowest failure rate among the WST items tested recorded 96.7%. On the contrary, with the use of foot in maneuvering the wheelchairs, failure rates dropped noticeably and success rate among the WST items tested was as high as 86.7%. Conclusion: These findings imply that the use of one-arm (hand) propellable (drivable) wheelchair can be an active and effective solution in resolving problems for hemiplegic clients using existing manual wheelchairs. As such, the government should provide institutional support to further develop and distribute this device or technology, and promote relative research in tandem. For now, the supply of commercially available device to hemiplegic clients is deemed urgent and also a mechanism to provide the devices and relevant services. Application: This study offers viable solutions for hemiplegic clients who rely on existing manual wheelchairs to increase their mobility and occupational performance.

휠체어사용자용 화장실의 규격기준에 대한 연구 (A Study on Standards of Wheelchair User Accessible Toilet Rooms)

  • Purpose: The diverse users and the increase of power wheelchair users have made it difficult to apply the standards of Wheelchair user accessible toilet rooms for the existing law and BF-certification. To address these issues, the standards of the relevant laws have been improved (Ministry of Health and Welfare, 2018), but there are still many problems. In this study, problems with the standards for Wheelchair user accessible toilet rooms in Korea are analyzed by comparing national and international standards. In addition, improvements to standards for Wheelchair user accessible toilet rooms will be suggested. Method: It presents improvement for standards of Wheelchair user accessible toilet rooms by comparing national, international standard and standards of many countries. Korean standard, International Standard(ISO 21542), American Standard(ADA Standards), German Standard(DIN 18040-1), Austrian Standard($\ddot{O}NORM$ B 1600) and Swiss Standard(Norm SIA 500) were investigated and analyzed. Results: Korea's standards differ from the ISO and the Standards of other countries in many ways, so there is a need for realignment. Specifications for disabled toilets and clear criteria for the size, shape, and location of sanitary appliances in toilets that are practically available to wheelchair users should be provided. Considering the increasing number of disabled toilet users, the installation of various disabled toilet rooms should be considered considering the user characteristics of those who can walk and wheelchair users. Implication: Recent partial improvements to relevant laws cannot meet the requirements of various users. Therefore, comprehensive and clear standard should be presented that take into account changing society and the environment.

장애인의 차량 탑승 시 휠체어 수납에 대한 만족도 조사 (The Research of People with Disabilities Satisfaction about Loading Wheelchair while Boarding on Vehicle)

  • 본 조사는 휠체어를 사용하는 장애인이 차량을 탑승할 때 휠체어 수납에 대한 불편함을 파악하여, 향후 관련 제품 개발에 개념설계를 하고자 실시하였다. 연구는 수동휠체어를 사용하고 있으며, 자가 운전을 할 수 있는 장애인 50명을 대상으로 직접 면담하는 설문조사 방식으로 실시하였다. 그 결과 설문에 참여한 88%의 장애인이 차량에 휠체어를 수납할 수 있는 보조 장치의 개발이 필요하다고 응답하였다. 이러한 장치로써 차량 트렁크에서 로봇팔이 차량의 운전석 문까지 나와서 휠체어를 트렁크에 수납하는 방법을 가장 선호하였다.

전동휠체어 로봇의 경로추적제어에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Path-Tracking of Electric Wheelchair Robot)

  • These days the number of aged and disabled people is increasing rapidly. But most of the disabled or the aged who have the ability to work, want to engage in economic activities and solve social restrictions as well as their bad financial conditions. This paper concerns about the tracking control of an electric wheelchair robot for welfare vehicle where the seat and electric wheelchair are separated and electric wheelchair robot must be autonomously controlled without the help of assistant. So the aged or the disabled people can drive welfare vehicle by himself by adopting this system. Therefore the concept of both an autonomous driving of electric wheelchair and path tracking robots is required in this system. Finally we suggested fuzzy controller in order to control the path tracking of electric wheelchair robot and compared the capability of the proposed controller with conventional PID controller.

휠체어 여성 장애인의 체형 연구 (A Study on the Body Type of Wheelchair using disabled Women)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the physical characteristic by directly measuring the wheelchair using disabled women and to classify Body Type of a disabled person. The subjects were 103 disabled women of wheelchair used women and between 20 - 55 years of age The result of this study is as follow. 1. There was a remarkable difference in the physical characteristic of wheelchair using disabled women due to their cause of disability. The cause of disability was classified into the 4 groups; Poliomyelitis, Spiral Cord Injury, Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy. 2. The result came out to be 4 factors by the factor analysis on the data of an anthropometric measurement to the wheelchair using disabled women and also cluster analyzing the factor scores, the experiment was concluded to 4 types. Type 1 came out to be a short height with the shortest legs. Type 2 was body shape which had a corpulent upper body and wide shoulder but with short and slim lower body. Type 3 has the shortest height, weak and lean upper body, small shoulders Type 4 has the largest stature and legs 3.
