In order to search for ecologically indicative characteristics on the street tree plots in Daegu area, plant communities and their floras were investigated. A total of 105 plots were collected and numerically analyzed by PCoA(Principal Coordinates Analysis). These plots were classified into 4 types containing 139 species, 97 genera, 42 families(including 37 exotic species): urban-dry type, urban-wet type, rural-dry type, rural-wet type. Habitat connectivity to the surrounding vegetation cover, extent and frequency of human impacts, and soil moisture recognizably were the main factors to allow the plots differentiation. Indicative species composition to these four types was generated as Eleusine indica-Eragrostis multicaulis-Oxalis corniculata to the urban-wet, Digitaria ciliaris-Eleusine indica-Eragrostis multicaulis to the urban-dry, Setaria viri-dis-Artemisia-Lactuca indica var. laciniata to the rural-wet, and Setaria viridis-Digitaria ciliaris-Erigeron canadensis to the rural-dry, respectively. Mean species number per plot for rural type was 2.5 times higher than for urban types. Street tree species representative to the rural-wet type is Zelkova serrata, which is a key species of potential natural vegetation in the alluvial land of Daegu area. Street tree plots were characterized by Eleusine indica showing the highest r-NCD value and also C4-assimilation grass plants. Views on the efficacy of the rural-wet type and the reinforcement of vegetation connectivity and soil moisture in rehabilitating street tree plots, are discussed.
To investigate the effects of forest and the surrounding natural and anthropogenic sources on the bulk depositions on forested land, this study examined differences in ion concentrations between wet-only and bulk samples at two forested sites in Japan. The surrounding natural and anthropogenic sources at each site were different; Shirasaka is in a rural area and Tanashi is an urban environment. The volume weighted (vw) mean concentrations of $K^+$ and $Ca^{2+}$ in the bulk samples were significantly (p<0.05) higher than those in the wet-only samples at both sites. The forest canopy and a nearby incineration plant were hypothesized to be the main sources of $K^+$ contaminants at Shirasaka and Tanashi, respectively. The transport of sea salt and urban dust may explain the presence of enriched $Ca^{2+}$ concentrations in the bulk samples at Shirasaka and Tanashi, respectively. The $NH_4{^+}$ concentrations in the Shirasaka bulk samples were significantly (p<0.05) lower than those in the wet-only samples. The vw mean $SO{_4}^{2-}$ and $NO_3{^-}$ concentrations in both sample types were not significantly different at either site. This study demonstrated that the ion concentration differences between wet-only and bulk samples were affected by nearby natural and anthropogenic sources even at forest sites, similar to previous findings for non-forested locations. However, the $K^+$ concentration differences between wet-only and bulk samples may be higher owing to forest sources, even in the absence of anthropogenic sources.
Uniformity and leveled distributions of soil chemicals across paddy fields are critical to manage optimal crop yields, reduce environmental risks and efficiently use water in rice cultivation. In this study, an investigation of spatial distributions on soil chemical properties was conducted to evaluate the effect of land leveling on mitigation of soil chemical property heterogeneity from a remodeled paddy field. The spatial variabilities of chemical properties were analyzed by geostatistical analyses; semivariograms and kriged simulations. The soil samples were taken from a 1 ha paddy field before and after land leveling with sufficient water. The study site was located at Bon-ri site of Dalseong and river sediments were dredged from Nakdong river basins. The sediments were buried into the paddy field after 50 cm of top soils at the paddy field were removed. The top soils were recovered after the sediments were piled up. In order to obtain the most accurate spatial field information, the soil samples were taken at every 5 m by 5 m grid point and total number of samples was 100 before and after land leveling with sufficient water. Soil pH increased from 6.59 to 6.85. Geostatistical analyses showed that chemical distributions had a high spatial dependence within a paddy field. The parameters of semivariogram analysis showed similar trends across the properties except pH comparing results from before and after land leveling. These properties had smaller "sill" values and greater "range" values after land leveling than ones from before land leveling. These results can be interpreted as land leveling induced more homogeneous distributions of soil chemical properties. The homogeneous distributions were confirmed by kriged simulations and distribution maps. As a conclusion, land leveling with sufficient water may induce better managements of fertilizer and water use in rice cultivation at disturbed paddy fields.
The effect of flooding and soil salinity on the growth of yam (Dioscorea batatas) were studied on the experimantal site temporally established in the south-eastern part of Saemangeum Reclaimed Tidal Land (near Gwanghwal myun, Gimjae-gun, Jellabukdo, Korea). Yam seedlings planted by using aerial bulblet as alternative of sliced tubers, were grown for 20-days and transplanted in black-vinyl mulched ridges (about 20 cm in height) at 70cm interval by $20{\times}60cm$ spacing in the $4^{th}$ of May, 2010. Soil salinity was maintained at lower than 1.2 ds $m^{-1}$ during the growing period and did not result to salt injury in all plants. However, flooding injury very seriously led to plant death and plant mortality rates at $67{\pm}21$ and $82{\pm}9%$ of yam plants in the compost and no compost treatment, respectively, died by heavy flooding during the rainy summer season. The main reasons of the flooding injury included the decreased rainfall acceptable capacity (RAC) after the rising of water table and a slowdown of water infiltration rate after the formation of an impermeable soil crust in the furrow bottom with continuous and heavy downpour during the rainy summer season. The effect of compost treatment was not statistically observed because of the severe spatial difference caused by wet injury, although yam tuber yield was higher at 30 kg $10^{-1}$ in the compost treatment than in the no-compost treatment at 20 kg $10^{-1}$. However, the size of tuber ranged at 1.23 to 1.60 cm in diameter and 3.7 to 5.0 cm in length in all both treatment, which means they are still reproducible for the next cropping season. Conclusively, proper counter-flooding measure and soil salinity control critically important for successful yam production in Saemangeum Reclaimed Tidal Land.

In recent years, adoption of the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) is spreading in most Asian countries, and more recently in Cambodia is one of the Asian countries with high adoptions of SRI. We conducted on-farm experiment to investigate the effects of SRI on rice growth and yield in the farmers' fields in rainfed region of southern Cambodia. The study was undertaken in rainfed lowland fields of Popel commune ($11^{\circ}$ 04' 67" N, $104^{\circ}$ 40' 79" E) of Tram Kak District in Takeo Province during the wet seasons in 2012, 2013, and 2015. A total of 32 on-farm experiments were conducted during the wet seasons for three years of 2012 (11 fields), 2013 (8 fields), and 2015 (13 fields). Across the three years of study, SRI produced significantly greater plant biomass and grain yield than Non-SRI. The yield increase was mostly ascribed for the increased number of grains per land area, which was due to the increased number of spikelets per panicle rather than the number of panicles per land area. With no significant difference between SRI and Non-SRI with respect to seedling age, the greater number of grains per panicle was accounted for by the reduced planting density and increased amount of manure application in SRI than Non-SRI fields. It was found that the greater manure application has increased soil nitrogen content in SRI and Non-SRI fields. While SRI did not increase the number of panicles per land area, it did increase the number of panicles per hill.
The cylinder liner of a diesel engine is commonly made of gray cast iron. However, this cylinder liner can be damaged by the cavitation phenomenon in wet conditions. This cavitation has remained an unsolved problem until now. In this study, the cause of cavitation corrosion due to antifreeze solution was examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and a 3D microscope. The necessary data to prevent the damage caused by cavitation erosion and the corrosion of gray cast iron cylinder liner was obtained. Analysis determined that the gray iron structure consists of an ${\alpha}-matrix$, flake graphite, and steadite. Cavitation erosion was initiated in the coarse flake graphite and propagated into the steadite with pitting. Under repetitive reaction conditions, the ${\alpha}-matrix$ was partially separated from the gray cast iron. This study is expected to be used as the basic data for the prevention of gray cast iron cavitation erosion and corrosion by controlling the graphite and steadite phases.
As one of methodological approaches for objective and systematic evaluation for rural resources, a sequential system for significance determination of resources items was formulated using AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) as the base technique. By the system constructed in this study, the significance values were calculated for all items of standard goal system which had been presented in the first phase- paper of research works for rural resources evaluation. The results analysed and obtained in the study are summarized as follows; 1. In case that the number of resources items for evaluation are relatively large, stepwise matrix method is considered as the better one for pair-comparison works in view of evaluator's convenience and consistency. 2. The significance valuing results for most resources items showed a considerable difference between characteristic areas, especially in aspects of land and human resources, so being considered as wet reflecting the specific areal varieties, 3. On land resources, the items for industrial development and land use showed higher significance value, while natural environment resources the items for ecological varieties and on human resources the items for artificial facilities. However, lower-valued ones were the items for mineral stocks in land resources, for control and protection in natural environment resources and for lower-level culture heritage respectively.

In marine air pollution control, SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) is reconized as the most effect method to control NOx, but on the other hand. seawater scrubber applying the basic characteristic that is naturally alkaline (pH typically around 8.1) is viewed as an economical SOx removal system at present. Especially, seawater scrubber would not be necessary to follow any of the various land based flue gas desulfurization methods. i.e. wet, dry or alkali scrubbing. However, these methods are not readily adaptable to marine conditions due to the quantifies of consumables required i.e. lime or limestone, the means of operation and the commercial availability. This research is undertaken to develop a new method as the main target of eliminating all exhaust emissions, particularly vessel, because of easy access to seawater and apt to apply a wet scrubber system. First, using the acidic seawater by seawater electrolysis, nitric monoxide(NO) is adequately oxidized to nitric dioxide $(NO_2)$by ClOx-in the acidic seawater, the electrolyzed alkaline seawater by electrolysis which contains mainly NaOH together with alkali metal ions $(i.e\;Na^{+}\;K^{+},\;Mg_{2}\;^{+},\;Ca_{2}\;^{+})$, is used as the absorption medium of NOx, the SOx are absorbed by relatively high solubility compared to other components of exhaust pollutants. The results found that the NOx and SOx removals could be achieved nearly Perfect.
The present study was to develop a dry PFB method similar to the existing gypsum board construction method in order to apply the existing wet PFB method that uses fire-resistant adhesive. It was found that the existing wet method can produce concrete compressive strength of 80MPa and fire resistance of 3 hours with 30mm PF boards. The goal of development in this study was fire resistance of 3 hours through dry construction of 15mm fire-resistant boards. 1. Improved PF board was prepared by adding inorganic fiber to existing board and using aggregate with grain size of 3mm or less. Molding was done at temperature higher than that for existing PF board molding. While wet curing is used for existing PF boards, this study used dry curing in order to enhance heat insulation performance. 2. According to the results of fire resistance test, when the dry PF method was applied, the temperature of the main reinforcing bar was 116℃ in 15mm, 103.8℃ in 20mm, and 94℃ in 25mm, and these results satisfied the current standards for fire resistance control presented by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs. When a 3-hour fire resistance test was performed and the external properties of the specimen were examined, the outermost gypsum board hardly remained and internal PF board maintained its form without thermal strain.
