In this paper, we propose new features for describing texture images by using multi-channel Gabor filter and log-polar transform based on human visual system (HVS). Gabor features are extracted by the mean and standard deviation of energy in Gabor response, followed by Fourier series extension. Log-polar features are extracted by log-polar transform and projection. The proposed texture descriptor performs reasonably well with less number of features than other texture descriptors, which has been verified by experiments using some texture images of MPEG-7 data set.
It is well known that each kernel function defines a primal-dual interior-point method(IPM). Most of polynomial-time interior-point algorithms for linear optimization(LO) are based on the logarithmic kernel function([2, 11]). In this paper we define a new eligible kernel function and propose a new search direction and proximity function based on this function for LO problems. We show that the new algorithm has ${\mathcal{O}}((log\;p){\sqrt{n}}\;log\;n\;log\;{\frac{n}{\epsilon}})$ and ${\mathcal{O}}((q\;log\;p)^{\frac{3}{2}}{\sqrt{n}}\;log\;{\frac{n}{\epsilon}})$ iteration bound for large- and small-update methods, respectively. These are currently the best known complexity results.
It is well known that each kernel function defines primal-dual interior-point method (IPM). Most of polynomial-time interior-point algorithms for linear optimization (LO) are based on the logarithmic kernel function ([9]). In this paper we define new eligible kernel function and propose a new search direction and proximity function based on this function for LO problems. We show that the new algorithm has $\mathcal{O}(({\log}\;p)^{\frac{5}{2}}\sqrt{n}{\log}\;n\;{\log}\frac{n}{\epsilon})$ and $\mathcal{O}(q^{\frac{3}{2}}({\log}\;p)^3\sqrt{n}{\log}\;\frac{n}{\epsilon})$ iteration complexity for large- and small-update methods, respectively. These are currently the best known complexity results for such methods.
In general, well log and core data have been utilized for reservoir characterization. These well data can provide valuable information on reservoir properties with high vertical resolution at well locations. While the seismic surveys cover large areas of field but give only indirect features about reservoir properties. Therefore it is possible to estimate the reservoir properties guided by seismic data on entire area if a relationship of seismic data and well data can be defined. Seismic attributes calculated from seismic surveys contain the particular reservoir features, so that they should be extracted and used properly according to the purpose of study. The method to select the suitable seismic attributes among enormous ones is needed. The stepwise regression and fuzzy curve analysis based on fuzzy logics are used for selecting the best attributes. The relationship can be utilized to estimate reservoir properties derived from seismic attributes. This methodology is applied to a synthetic seismogram and a sonic log acquired from velocity model. Seismic attributes calculated from the seismic data are reflection strength, instantaneous phase, instantaneous frequency and pseudo sonic logging data as well as seismic trace. The fuzzy curve analysis is used for choosing the best seismic attributes compared to sonic log as well data, so that seismic trace, reflection strength, instantaneous frequency, and pseudo sonic logging data are selected. The relationship between the seismic attribute and well data is found out by the statistical regression method and estimates the reliable well data at a specific field location derived from only seismic attributes. For a future work in this study, the methodology should be checked an applicability of the real fields with more complex and various reservoir features.
Geophysical well logging at various coal fields were carried out to study the characteristic response of domestic coal seams. Also a computer program is developed for quantitative analysis of coal logging data. Most coal seams penetrated by the drill holes, where the well logging were carried out, showed poor thickness and quality, and were severely altered. Therefore, majority of log data are inadequate for detailed quantitative analysis. The logs show, however, typical characteristics with related to coal seams, but interpretation should be made with caution because certain log response of demestic coals, mostly anthracite, are quite different to those of foreign coals, mostly bituminous. The developed comuter program has been proved as an effective one for identification of coal seams and lithology anslysis, and is expected to be succesfully used for coal quality analysis in cases of more diversified log data of good quality being obtained.

During consolidation, the permeability of clay decreases with void ratio because of the reduction in total void space. After Kozeny(1927) and Carman(1956), many researchers have proposed the relations between void ratio and permeability. Most of the relations are expressed in the following forms as : (1) log e - log k(1+e), (2) e - log k, or (3) log e - log k. These relations have been found valid for a large number of normally consolidated clays. From laboratory test(CRS and I $L_{CON}$) results, the relation between void ratio and permeability of Kimhae clay was well defined in all of the three forms. Permeability change index, $C_{k}$, of Kimhae clay was in the range of 0.64~1,03 and average value of $C_{k}$ was 0.821. And the test results satisfied the experimental correlation between $C_{k}$ and e, $C_{k}$=0.5e. In log e - log k(1+e) relation, constant C was in the range of 1.91~4.74$\times$10$^{-8}$ cm/sec and n was in the range of 3.74~4.60.c and n was in the range of 3.74~4.60.74~4.60.0.

As a basic study of characterizing fracture condition in bore hole, conventional geophysical well log data consisting of sonic, gamma-gamma and resistivity logs were compared with geological core log and acousic televiewer log in limestone geology. Discontinuities shown on the acoustic televiewer log and the core log show fairly good correlation. The conventional Geophysical log is also shown to bi effective in locating discontinities in limestone geology; sonic log shows the best result and resistivity shows the worst. Particularly, the combination method of density and sonic logs is shown to be the most effective in delineating discontinuities.

Whereas the numbers of childcare centers and kindergartens are increasing rapidly, systematic management to control the food safety of foodservice operation is not yet well established. Samples from 12 centers in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province were collected to assess the microbiological quality of 32 raw materials, 24 cooked foods, 76 food-contact surfaces (knives, cutting boards, dish towels and gloves), 17 employees' hands and 12 air-borne bacteria. The microbiological analyses were performed for aerobic plate counts (APC), Enterobacteriaceae, E. coli and 7 pathogens (B. cereus, C. jejuni, C. perfringens, L. monocytogenes, Salmonella spp., S. aureus, and V. parahaemolyticus). Among raw materials, E. coli ($1.39{\sim}2.08\;\log\;CFU/g$) were detected in 4 out of 6 meats and 7.46 log CFU/g of APC in tofu. High enterobacteriaceae levels of 4.23, 5.14 and 4.19 log CFU/g were found in cucumber salad, steamed spinach with seasonings and steamed bean sprout with seasonings, respectively. No pathogens were found in all samples except for C. perfringens detected from raw spinach and raw lotus root. Only APC and enterobacteriaceae were found in food-contact surfaces. Two of the 23 knives and three of the 24 kitchen boards showed over 500 CFU/$100\;cm^2$ of APC; also, APC levels (5.03 to 5.44 log CFU/g) were detected in 4 of the 12 dish towels. Only one glove showed Enterobacteriaceae (2.44 log CFU/glove) contamination. Enterobacteriaceae were found in 2 employees' hands ($2.37{\sim}4.44\;\log\;CFU$/hand) among the 16 employees. The contamination levels of air-borne bacteria were shown unacceptable in two (2.25 and 2.30 log CFU/petri-film/15 min) out of the 12 kitchen areas. These results suggest that the microbiological hazards in some foods and environments are not well controlled and thus a guideline should be provided to ensure the food safety in childcare center and kindergarten foodservice operations.

The log-density ratio of the conditional densities of the predictors given the response variable provides useful information for variable selection in the logistic regression model. In this paper, we consider the predictors that are needed and how they should be included in the model. If the conditional distributions are skewed, the distributions can be considered as gamma distributions. Under this assumption, linear and log terms are generally included in the model. The log-odds graph is a very useful graphical tool in this study. A graphical study is presented which shows that if the conditional distributions of x|y for the two groups overlap significantly, we need both the linear and quadratic terms. On the contrary, if they are well separated, only the linear or log term is needed in the model.
Concern for the effects of toxic chemicals on the environment leads the search for better bioassay test organisms and test procedures. Photobacterium phosphoreum was used successfully as a test organism and the luminometer detection technique was an effective and simple method for determining the concentration of toxic chemicals. With EC50 a total of 14 chlorine substituted phenols benzenes and ethanes were used for the experiments. The test results showed that the toxicity to P. phosphoreum increased in the order of phenol > benzene > ethane and the toxicity also increased with the number of chlorine substitution. Quantitative structure activity relationship (QSARO) model can be used to predict EC50 to save time and endeavor. Correlation was well established with the QSAR parameters such as log P, log S and solvatochromic parameter(Vi/100 $\pi$, ${\beta}$m and am). The QSAR modeling was used with multi-regression analysis and mono-regression analysis. These analyses resulted in the following QSAR : $log EC_{50} =2.48 + 0.914 log S(n=9 R2=85.5% RE=0.378) log EC_{50}=0.35 - 4.48 Vi/100 + 2.84 \pi^* +9.46{\beta}m-4.48am (n =14 R2=98.2% RE=0.012) log EC_{50} =2.64 -1.66 log P(n=5, R2=98.8% RE=0.16) log EC_{50}=3.44 -1.09 log P(n=9 R2= 80.8% Re=0.207)$
