This study is conducted to find ways to develop design and research activities on personal belongings for the aged generation and aims to promote the industry and improve welfare of the elderly population by enhancing their quality of lives. Researches on policy papers, journals and published books show high growth potentials for elderly related industries due to rapid aging, retirement of baby boomer population and quality-oriented life styles. Regulations and standard, however, are lacking and, with shortage of R & D investment, human resources have not been secured in this industry. This is a niche market that has definite consumers. Therefore, it has been confirmed that when design and research efforts are made in this field, it can contribute to the benefit of aged generation as well as the development of the national economy.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between self-esteem and the view of the afterlife of the elderly by focusing on mediating effects of positive satisfaction and death preparation. Therefore, this study emphasizes the importance of the rest of life and contributes as exploratory research toward strengthening the psychological and emotional well-being of the elderly. After using a structural equation model, we found that self-esteem influenced their view of the afterlife through mediating effects such as positive satisfaction and the level of death preparation. The results of this study will present not only in recovering from death anxiety through an understanding of the level of death preparation and, the view of the afterlife but also in the development of practical intervention materials, which can be useful in social work for the elderly. The elderly's view of the afterlife should be strengthened according to the educational programs on death preparation that deal with the existence of the afterlife and life after death. However, this study has the limitation that only people living in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province and not in the other areas of the country were considered in this research. Nevertheless, within its limitation, this study's findings are promising, as they contribute to our understanding of the view of life and death of the elderly; further, the study has academic meaning with respect to helping the elderly successfully carry out their life development tasks and significantly prepare for the rest of their life.

The aim of this study was to assist the development of parenting-aid policies by analyzing information from life perspectives, family system theory, and integrated family policy perspectives. For this purpose, we conducted a literature using a variety of sources including internet sites, laws, published material related to current parenting-aid policies. Based on analyses we formulated four agendas: empowering parent competency, supporting diverse family parenting, guaranteeing parent's rights, and supporting parenting of dual-income families parenting. The results were as follow: Firstly, for empowering parent competency, we proposed the development of family relationship empowerment programs including family life cycle and children-raising support services. Secondly, for diverse family parenting, we proposed access to integrated parenting-aid programs dependent on family types. Thirdly, for guaranteeing parent’s rights, we proposed the supporting of child raising costs and tax returns to families with children, and provide child allowances. Finally, for dual-income family parenting, we proposed that schools and communities must recognize that dual-income families are a universal family type, establish family friendly business culture, and to develop a more democratic domestic family-relationship. This policy proposed a new paradigm where parents must be recognized as partners and stakeholder in development of family related policies. Ultimately, such policies will contribute to increased birth rate and development of a more respectful society.

Methods: This study selected 120 Sprangue-Dawley rats, 8-week of age, divided them into six groups, and assigned 5 rats to each group. Experiments were conducted for 1, 3 days, 1, and 8 weeks, respectively. Group I was a group of electroacupuncture and therapeutic exercise after inducing ischemic stroke; Group II was a group of therapeutic exercise after inducing ischemic stroke; Group III was a group of electroacupuncture after inducing ischemic stroke; Group IV was a sham group of electroacupuncture after inducing ischemic stroke; Group V was a control group and Group VI was a sham group without ischemic stroke. In each group, changes in weight of muscle and relative muscle of TA muscle, neurologic motor behavior test, histologic observations were observed and analyzed. Results: For the changes in muscle weight of unaffected and affected sides of TA muscle, muscle atrophy was seen in an affected side 3 days after ischemic stroke was induced. There was statistically significant difference in Group I 1 week and 8 weeks after ischemic stroke was induced, compared to Group V (p<0.05). For the changes in relative muscle weight of unaffected and affected sides of tibial anterior muscle, there was significant decrease in each group 3 days after ischemic stroke was induced, compared to Group IV, while there was statistically significant increase in Group I 1 week after ischemic stroke was induced, compared to Group V (p<0.05). For neuologic exercise behavior test, Group I generally had the highest score, compared to other groups. Conclusion: electroacupuncture and therapeutic exercise may improve muscle atrophy and change in histologic observations expression of ischemic stroke rats and contribute to the improvement of exercise function.
