An Improvement of the Strength of Marine Propeller Materials after Corrosion Pit Repairing (선박용(船舶用) 프로펠러의 부식(腐蝕)피트 보수후의 강도의 개선)

  • Marine propeller is one of the most important element of ship, it must be taken care of design and maintenance of it. It is inevitable that corrosion pits have occurred on the marine propeller. If corrosion pits have occurred on the blades, they have been repaired ordinary by simple welding methods in shipyards. It must be that the strength is degraded in this process. In this paper, we represent the improvement method of fatigue strength degraded after repairing pits.

  • 최근 자동차 업계서는 차량의 온실가스 배출량을 줄이고 연비를 개선시킬 수 있는 방법 중의 하나로 경량화 소재를 사용하여 차체의 중량을 줄이는 연구가 활발히 진행 중에 있다. 특히 알루미늄 합금의 경우 기존 강재에 비해 비중이 낮아 가볍고 부식에 대한 저항성이 높아 많이 사용되어지고 있는 추세이다. 본 연구에서는 먼저, 저입열 용접공정을 적용하여 용접 변수와 토치의 각도에 따른 인장강도 특성을 비교하여 적정 용접 범위를 산정하였으며, 인장강도와 비드형상의 관계를 다중 회귀 분석을 이용하여 비드 예측 회귀 모델을 제시하였다. 또한 호감도 함수를 적용한 반응표면분석법을 이용하여 자동차 생산 현장에서 겹치기 용접 이음부의 강건한 용접 품질을 가질 수 있는 최적용접 공정 조건을 도출할 수 있는 효과적인 방법을 제안하고자 한다.

The characteristics of Near-thrshold fatigue crack propagation for welding zone in TMCP high strength steels (TMCP 고장력강 용접부의 하한계 피로균열진전 특성평가)

  • Recently developed TMCP steels, which were manufactured by controlled rolling followed by accelerated cooling process, were examined to study their characteristics and weldability. Accelerated cooling type TMCP steel's hardness test result exhibited high value on weld zone. On the contrary, base metal and HAZ exhibited comparatively the similar value. On this experiment result Softening of HAZ is not occurred. in the-heat affected zone, grain size repression be caused by chemical composition properties which a small quantity Al-Ti-B-N. Changing stress ratio near-threshold fatigue crack propagation experiments were carried out. According to this result, crack propagation velocity of the HAZ exhibited slower than the base metal and near-threshold value had increased at the HAZ. Finally accelerated cooling type TMCP steels were exhibited excellent mechanical properties in both strength and toughness.

Modified S-N Curve Method to Estimate Fatigue life of Welded Joints (수정 S-N곡선법을 이용한 용접연결부의 피로수명 추정)

  • In this paper, the effects of irregular bead shapes on fatigue life were investigated. A modified S-N curve method was used to estimate the fatigue life, which considered the inherent multiaxiality caused by the geometrical feature produced by the welding process. The point method of the critical distance method was used to determine the fatigue effective stress. Three types of fillet joint models were tested in the fatigue experiments. For each model, real bead shapes were collected using a 3D laser scanner, and finite element analyses were performed. The results of the analyses with actual bead shapes were compared with those using an idealized bead shape model. The results of the present analytical methods showed good agreement with the experimental results.

  • Magnesium alloy sheets have been extending their field of applications to automotive and electronic industries taking advantage of their excellent light weight property. In addition to their excellent light property, magnesium alloys have several other advantages: high specific strength, good welding capability and corrosion resistance. Taking advantage of these benefits, magnesium alloys have also been substituting the polymeric materials in the electronic devices industries. In sheet metal forming application with magnesium alloys, the lower formability and high springback due to the lower elastic property (Young's modulus=45 GPa) at room temperature are major hurdles by which magnesium alloys have limited applications. In this study, commercial notebook case was adopted as the benchmark model, and then design parameters and process conditions are analyzed by the finite element simulation and physical try-outs.

  • 개조한 가스 금속 아아크 용접공정을 이용하여 SiC/AI 금속기 복합재료를 제조하고 그 특성을 조사하였다. AI 모재위에 강화입자의 크기와 부피분율을 변화하여 다양한 SiC/AI 복합재료층을 제조하였고, 만들어진 복합재료층의 특성은 미세조직관찰과 미소경도시험을 통하여 이루어졌다. 복합재료층의 두께는 약 7-8mm로 측정되었고 균일한 강화입자의 분포도를 얻을 수 있었다. 분산입자의 부피분률은 Ar가스의 유량에 의하여 조절하였고 분산입자의 부피분률이 증가하고 크기가 작아짐에 따라 기지의 수지상 응고조직은 더욱 미세화되었다. 복합재료의 부피경도는 분산입자의 부피분률이 감소함에 따라 낮아졌으나 입자 크기에는 크게 변화가 없는 것으로 나타났다.

  • It is inevitable that corrosion pits have occurred on the marine propeller. If corrosion pits have occurred on the blades, they have been repaired by simple welding methods. It must be that the strength is degraded in this process. In this paper, we analyzed and compared the strength of A1BC3 and HBsCl used for marine propeller after repairing the artificial pit by several different methods.

Behavior of Initial Formation of Iron Nitride on Carbon Steel at Low Pressure Gas Nitriding (저압가스질화에서 탄소강의 초기 화합물층 형성 거동)

  • Growth behaviors of iron-nitride on S45C steels at low pressure gas nitriding were examined. Surfaces of the steels covered with fine and porous oxide during the pre-oxidation using $N_2O$ gas. Well faceted particles connected with them were observed after 1 min nitriding. They grew steadily and filled inter-pores during additional nitriding process. From the X-ray diffraction analysis, ${\gamma}'$-iron nitride was dominantly formed at the initial stage but the amount of ${\varepsilon}$-iron nitride was rapidly increased as nitriding treatment time. The porous layer was formed on the particles and thickened up to half of nitride layer after 60 min nitriding. The observed growth behaviors were discussed in internal stress related with volume expansion involved in transforming from iron to iron-nitrides.

  • In continuous galvanizing process at steel making plant, coating weight on the surface of strip that pass through air knife is controlled by the pressure at the chamber of air knife and the gap between the nozzle of air knife and strip. The pressure can be easily measured and controlled. But it is difficult to measure the distance between Air knife nozzle and strip, and also difficult to decide how much distance air knife move. Because, the gap between nozzle and strip varies with the height of air knife, intermesh of stabilizing roll and welding of strips that have different thickness. In this research, we developed a gap sensor that can measure the relative distance between Air knife nozzle and strip. Effects of Microstructures on the Toughness of High Heat Input EG Welded Joint of EH36-TM Steel (EH36-TM강의 대입열 EGW 용접부 저온 인성에 미치는 미세 조직의 영향)

  • The characteristics of high heat input (342kJ/cm) EG (Electro Gas Arc) welded joint of EH36-TM steel has been investigated. The weld metal microstructure consisted of fine acicular ferrite (AF), a little volume of polygonal ferrite (PF) and grain boundary ferrite (GBF). Charpy impact test results of the weld metal and heat affected zone (HAZ) met the requirement of classification rule (Min. 34J at $-20^{\circ}C$). In order to evaluate the relationship between the impact toughness property and the grain size of HAZ, the austenite grain size of HAZ was measured. The prior austenite grain size in Fusion line (F.L+0.1 mm) was about $350{\mu}m$. The grain size in F.L+1.5 mm was measured to be less than $30{\mu}m$ and this region was identified as being included in FGHAZ(Fine Grain HAZ). It is seen that as the austenite grain size decreases, the size of GBF, FSP (Ferrite Side Plate) become smaller and the impact toughness of HAZ increases. Therefore, the CGHAZ was considered to be area up to 1.3mm away from the fusion line. Results of TEM replica analysis for a welded joint implied that very small size ($0.8\sim1.2{\mu}m$) oxygen inclusions played a role of forming fine acicular ferrite in the weld metal. A large amount of (Ti, Mn, Al)xOy oxygen inclusions dispersed, and oxides density was measured to be 4,600-5,300 (ea/mm2). During the welding thermal cycle, the area near a fusion line was reheated to temperature exceeding $1400^{\circ}C$. However, the nitrides and carbides were not completely dissolved near the fusion line because of rapid heating and cooling rate. Instead, they might grow during the cooling process. TiC precipitates of about 50 ~ 100nm size dispersed near the fusion line.
