In this paper, we evaluate the performance of WCDMA reverse link receiver system with closed loop fast transmit power control (TPC). For fast power control, SIR must be measured precisely. We propose a new SIR measurement algorithm having a simple structure. The proposed algorithm uses unused OVSF code for interference power evaluation. The proposed SIR measurement algorithm is compared to the conventional SIR measurement algorithm in Ref.$^{[1]}$ under closed loop fast TPC. We adopted WMSA channel estimation filter with Κ=2 for mobile radio channel estimation and considered one slot TPC delay. Extensive computer simulation results show that the proposed algorithm using unused OVSF code reduces the required Ε$_{b}$ /Ι$_{0}$ at the BER of 10$^{-3}$ up to 0.9㏈ and has an improved TPC error performance compared to the conventional algorithm.

This paper presents the performance evaluation of channel estimation algorithm using RLS algorithm lot W-CDMA reverse link over Rayleigh fading channels. By obtaining BER(Bit Error Rate) performance through computer simulations, the RLS(Recursive Least Square) algorithm is compared with the existing WMSA(Weighted Averaging)(K=1,3) and constant gain algorithm. The channel structure, modulation and pilot patterns are applied to the ARIB (Association of Radio Industries and Business) and 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) ITU-R proposal for the IMT-2000. The BER performance of RLS algorithm with linear interpolation is similar to that of WMSA(K=1) and slightly superior to that of constant gain algorithm at low Doppler frequencies. Also, RLS algorithm performance is better than that of the WMSA(K=1,3) and constant gain algorithms about 4dB at BER=2.0$\times$$10^{-2}$ and Doppler frequencies $F_D$=320Hz. With increasing Doppler frequency, therefore, the BER performance of RLS algorithm with linear interpolation is superior to WMSA(K=L.3) and constant rain algorithms.

Radon is an invisible, odorless, and radioactive gas. It is formed by the disintegration of radium, which is a decay product of uranium. Some amounts of radon gas and its products are present ubiquitously in the soil, water, and air. Particularly high radon levels occur in regions of high uranium content. Although radon is permeable into indoor environment not only through geological features (bed rock and permeability) but also through the construction materials and underground water, the radiation from the geological features is generally main exposure factor. So there can be a problem in a certain space such as the underground and/or relatively poor ventilation condition. In this study, a GIS technique was used in order to investigate spatial distribution of radon measured from sub- way stations of 1 thru 8 in Seoul, Korea in 1991, 1998, 2001, and 2006. Spatial analysis was applied to reproduce the radon distribution. We utilized spatial analysis techniques such as inverse distance weighted averaging (IDW) and kriging techniques which are widely used to relate between different spatial points. To validate the results from the analyses, the jackknife technique for an uncertainty test was performed. When the number of measuring sites was less than 100 and also when the number of omitted sites increased, the kriging technique was better than IDW. On the other hand, when the number of sites was over 100, IDW technique was better than kriging technique. Thus the selection of analytical tool was affected sensitives by the analysis based on the number of measuring sites.

A new intra field deinterlacing algorithm with edge map in the image block is introduced. Conventional deinterlacing methods usually employ edge-based line average algorithm within pixel-by-pixel approach. However, it is sensitive to variation of intensity. To reduce this shortcoming, we proposed edge direction vector computed by edge map, and also its interpolation technique. We first introduce an edge direction vector, which is computed by Sobel mask, so that finer resolution of the edge direction can be acquired. The proposed edge direction vector oriented deinterlacer operates by identifying small pixel variations in five orientations, while weighted averaging to estimate missing pixel. According to the edge direction of the direction vector, we calculate weights on each edge direction. These weight values multiplied by the candidate deinterlaced pixels in order to successively build approximations of the deinterlaced sequence.
This paper presents an efficient image fusion method to be appropriate for the KOMPSAT-2 and 3 satellites. The proposed method is based on the well-established component substitution (CS) approach. The proposed method is divided into two parts: 1) The first step is to create a intensity image by the weighted-averaging operation of a multi-spectral (MS) image and 2) the second step is to produce an optimal high-frequency image using the statistical properties of the original MS and panchromatic (PAN) images. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated in both quantitative and visual analysis. Quantitative assessments are performed by using the relative global dimensional synthesis error (Spatial and Spectral ERGAS), the image quality index (Q4), and the spectral angle mapper index (SAM). The qualitative and quantitative assessment results show that the fusion performance of the proposed method is improved in both the spectral and spatial qualities when it is compared with previous CS-based fusion methods.
The theory and practice of water quality scoring and indexing are introduced. The monthly water analysis data are available for six stations long the down-stream Han River whthin the areal boundary of the Special City of Seoul. The data cover the period between 1975 and 1979 inclusive and contain the analytical findings on 37 water constituents including DO, BOD, temperature, total solids and etc. Sic parameters are selected form the 37 items, that, to the judgement of the writer, best reflect the water quality of the Han River. They are; dissolved oxggen saturation, pH, fecal coliform, total solids, BOD and nitrate+ammonia. For each of the six parameters, a subscore function is developed and graphically presented to facilitate the transform of a measurment of the arameter to a subscore on a common score(e.G. 0-100) The score of a sample is calculated as a fuction of the six subscores, using four different approaches; (1) the unweighted arithmetic water quality score, (2) the weighted arithmetic water quality score, (3)the unweighted multiplicative score and (4) the reduced (total) score. Independent of these calculated scores, the experts' score which is calculated by averaging the ratings of water quality experts is obtained and compared with each of the four calculated scores by means of the least square method. The experts' score compares most favorably with the "reduced" score with the correlation coefficient of 0.956 : therefore this method of water quality scoring is adopted to calculate the Han River water quality scores and indices. Water quality index data for Guiri, ukdo, Pokwangdong, Noryangjin, Yongdungpo and Kayang Stations, 1975-1979 are as follow: The overall water quality index data of the Han River between Guiri and Kayang Stations are found; 47.3 in 1976, 48.0 in 1977, 48.5 in 1978 and 54.7 in 1979, indicating the general trend towards water quality improvent in this part of the river, in terms of the increased water quality index by average 1.85 points per year during this period. Finally the optimum sampling frequencies distributed among the six stations, using an equation which takes into account the coefficients of variation of the water quality scores and indices arec calculated.alculated.
In this paper, we propose a multiple classifier combination method based on image degradation modeling to improve recognition performance on low-quality images. Using an image degradation model, it generates a set of classifiers each of which is specialized for a specific image quality. In recognition, it combines the results of the recognizers by weighted averaging to decide the final result. At this time, the weight of each recognizer is dynamically decided from the estimated quality of the input image. It assigns large weight to the recognizer specialized to the estimated quality of the input image, but small weight to other recognizers. As the result, it can effectively adapt to image quality variation. Moreover, being a multiple-classifier system, it shows more reliable performance then the single-classifier system on low-quality images. In the experiment, the proposed multiple-classifier combination method achieved higher recognition rate than multiple-classifier combination systems not considering the image quality or single classifier systems considering the image quality.

Reliable information on the surface solar radiation is indispensable for rebuilding food production system in the famine plagued North Korea. However, transfer of the related modeling technology of South Korea is not possible simply because raw data such as solar radiation or sunshine duration are not available. The objective of this study is restoring solar radiation data at 27 synoptic stations in North Korea by using satellite remote sensing data. We derived relationships between MODIS radiation estimates and the observed solar radiation at 18 locations in South Korea. The relationships were used to adjust the MODIS based radiation data and to restore solar radiation data at those pixels corresponding to the 27 North Korean synoptic stations. Inverse distance weighted averaging of the restored solar radiation data resulted in gridded surfaces of monthly solar radiation for 4 decadal periods (1983-1990, 1991-2000 and 2001-2010), respectively. For a direct application of these products, we produced solar irradiance estimates for each sub-grid cell with a 30 m spacing based on a sun-slope geometry. These products are expected to assist planning of the North Korean agriculture and, if combined with the already prepared South Korean data, can be used for climate change impact assessment across the whole Peninsula.

Although drought is a natural phenomenon, its damage occurs in combination with regional physical and social factors. Especially, related to the supply and demand of various waters, drought causes great socio-economic damage. Even meteorological droughts occur with similar severity, its impact varies depending on the regional characteristics and water supply system. Therefore, this study assessed regional drought risk considering regional socio-economic factors and water supply system. Drought hazard was assessed by grading the joint drought management index (JDMI) which represents water shortage. Drought vulnerability was assessed by weighted averaging 10 socio-economic factors using Entropy, Principal Component Analysis (PCA), and Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM). Drought response capacity that represents regional water supply factors was assessed by employing Bayesian networks. Drought risk was determined by multiplying a cubic root of the hazard, vulnerability, and response capacity. For the drought hazard meaning the possibility of failure to supply water, Goesan-gun was the highest at 0.81. For the drought vulnerability, Daejeon was most vulnerable at 0.61. Considering the regional water supply system, Sejong had the lowest drought response capacity. Finally, the drought risk was the highest in Cheongju-si. This study identified the regional drought risk and vulnerable causes of drought, which is useful in preparing drought mitigation policy considering the regional characteristics in the future.
Purpose: Population based structural and functional maps of the brain provide effective tools for the analysis and interpretation of complex and individually variable brain data. Brain MRI and PET standard templates and statistical probabilistic maps based on image data of Korean normal volunteers have been developed and probabilistic maps based on cytoarchitectonic data have been introduced. A quantification method using these data was developed for the objective assessment of regional intensity in the brain images. Materials and Methods: Age, gender and ethnic specific anatomical and functional brain templates based on MR and PET images of Korean normal volunteers were developed. Korean structural probabilistic maps for 89 brain regions and cytoarchitectonic probabilistic maps for 13 Brodmann areas were transformed onto the standard templates. Brain FDG PET and SPGR MR images of normal volunteers were spatially normalized onto the template of each modality and gender. Regional uptake of radiotracers in PET and gray matter concentration in MR images were then quantified by averaging (or summing) regional intensities weighted using the probabilistic maps of brain regions. Regionally specific effects of aging on glucose metabolism in cingulate cortex were also examined. Results: Quantification program could generate quantification results for single spatially normalized images per 20 seconds. Glucose metabolism change in cingulate gyrus was regionally specific: ratios of glucose metabolism in the rostral anterior cingulate vs. posterior cingulate and the caudal anterior cingulate vs. posterior cingulate were significantly decreased as the age increased. 'Rostral anterior'/'posterior' was decreased by 3.1% per decade of age ($P<10^{-11}$, r=0.81) and 'caudal anterior'/'posterior' was decreased by 1.7% ($P<10^{-8}$, r=0.72). Conclusion: Ethnic specific standard templates and probabilistic maps and quantification program developed in this study will be useful for the analysis of brain image of Korean people since the difference in shape of the hemispheres and the sulcal pattern of brain relative to age, gender, races, and diseases cannot be fully overcome by the nonlinear spatial normalization techniques.
