  • In orthotropic steel decks, it is likely to have defects due to fatigue damages because most of structural joints(the connection of longitudinal rib and transverse rib, the connection of deck plate and longitudinal rib) are connected by welds. However. orthotropic steel decks have many advantages. such as light weight and reduction of construction time. in comparison with concrete decks. Therefore. they are mostly used in long-span bridges and urban highway bridges. This study consists of the cause identication of fatigue damage and the suggestion of rational thickness on deck plate about the connection of deck plate and longitudinal rib. The results are as follows: fatigue damage cause at the connection of deck plate and longitudinal rib is local deformation in deck plate. And, rational thickness of deck plate is 16mm thickness.

  • High Tensile Steel enables to reduce the plate thickness comparing to the case when Mild Steel is used. From the economical view point this is very preferable since the reduction in the hull weight. However to use the High Tensile Steel effectively the plate thickness may become thin so that the occurrence of buckling is inevitable and design allowing plate buckling may be necessary. If the inplane stiffness of the plating decreases due to buckling, buckling may be necessary. If the inplane stiffness of the plating decreases due to buckling the flexural rigidity of the cross section of a ship's hull also decreases. this may lead to excessive deflection of the hull girder under longitudinal bending. In these cases a precise estimation of plate's behavior after buckling is necessary and nonlinear analysis of isolated and stiffened plates is required for structural system analysis. In this connection this paper discusses nonlinear behaviour of thin plate under thrust. Based on the analytical method elastic large deflection analysis of isolated plate is perform and simple expression are derived to evaluate the inplane rigidity of plates subjected to uniaxial compression.

  • Carbon-epoxy prepreg has been introduced in the forming of the upper and lower swash plates that control the pitch of rotor blade of unmanned helicopter because of its lightweight. Taguchi experimental method has been used by introducing the variables such as arrangement angle, laminated number and forming temperature, in order to obtain the proper forming method by using prepreg satisfying the required strength of the swash plate. In the evaluation of structural safety for the swash plates, three kinds of models are considered by using FE-analysis. In comparison of the hot forged products with Al6061-T6 and the formed products with prepreg, it was found that ultimate tensile strength of the products with prepreg is three times higher than that of the Al6061-T6, and the weight reduction of 68.5g can be achieved by using prepreg swash plates.

  • Based on first-order shear deformation theory, a wave propagation model of graphene platelets reinforced metal foams (GPLRMFs) circular plates is built in this paper. The expressions of phase-/group- velocities and wave number are obtained by using Laplace integral transformation and Hankel integral transformation. The effects of GPLs pattern, foams distribution, GPLs weight fraction and foam coefficient on the phase and group velocity of GPLRMFs circular plates are discussed in detail. It can be inferred that GPLs distribution have great impacts on the wave propagation problems, and Porosity-I type distribution has the largest phase velocity and group velocity, followed by Porosity-III, and finally Porosity-II; With the increase of the GPLs weight fraction, the phase- and group- velocities for the GPLRMFs circular plate will be increased; With the increase of the foam coefficient, the phase- and group- velocities for the GPLRMFs circular plate will be decreased.

  • In this study, a shape optimization is performed for circular and elliptical holes to reduce weight of a plate. It is accomplished in reference to the results of topology optimization of the square plate with circular hole. From the results. it is concluded that the stress values of shape optimization of them are satisfied with 100MPa of constraint condition.

  • In this study, we performed the biomechanical analysis of cervical plate systems by using a computer simulation based on finite element method to derive reliable model by analysis of design variables and fatigue behavior. To simulate the cervical spine movement in-vivo state by surgery, we modeled the cervical plate system which consisted of screws, rings, rivets, and plate and Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) Block. The experiment of cervical plate system followed the ASTM F1717 standards that covered the materials and methods for the static and fatigue testing. The result of computer simulation is compared with experimented test. We expected this study is to derive reliable results by analysis of design variables and fatigue behavior for developing a new model.

  • To increase the efficiency of the hydraulic axial piston pumps, we have to know the various characteristics in the sliding parts of them. Especially, friction characteristics between the cylinder block and the valve plate in the hydraulic axial piston pumps plays an important role to high power density. In this paper, we tried to clarify friction characteristics between the cylinder block and the spherical valve plate in bent-axis-type axial piston pump by using of modeling experiment. The main results of this study are these; (1) Friction torque between the cylinder block and the spherical valve plate has a proportional relation to weight or rotational speed, and is strongly affected by temperature. (2) Friction torque strongly depends on force balance ratio. (3) In this experiment, lubrication condition between the cylinder block and the spherical valve plate is under hydrodynamic lubrication.

  • The weight of the bipolar plate is one of the crucial aspects of improving power density in PEMFC stacks. Aluminum alloys have good mechanical properties such as density, electrical resistivity, and thermal conductivity. Furthermore, using aluminum in a bipolar plate instead of graphite reduces the bipolar plate cost and makes machining easier. Therefore in this study, an aluminum alloy was selected as the appropriate material for a bipolar plate. Results from feasibility experiments with the aim of developing fuel cells consisting of Al bipolar plates with multiple channels are presented. Dynamic loading was applied and the formability of micro channels was estimated as a function of punch pressure and die radius. Sheets of Al5052 with a thickness of 0.3mm were used. For a die radius of 0.1mm the formability was optimized with a sine wave dynamic load of 90kN at maximum pressure and 5 cycles of a sine wave punch travel. The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed manufacturing technique for producing bipolar plates.

  • In this paper, sandwich plate, constructed with orthotropic and isotropic composite materials, is analyzed to obtain the static and harmonic behavior. The analysis is done by using ANSYS APDL FEM tool. A solid-shell 190 and an 8-node solid 185 elements are employed for face and core material respectively to analyze the plate. Results was attained by using Reissner-Mindlin theory. Effect of increasing thickness ratio of face sheet to depth of the plate is presented on static, vibration and harmonic response on the sheet and the results are discussed briefly. Published work in open domain was used to validate the results and observed excellent agreement. It can be stated that proposed model presents results with remarkable accuracy. Results are obtained to reduce the weight of the plate and minimizing the vibration amplitudes.

  • A cracked-plate with a patch bonded on one side is treated with a crack-bridging model: assuming continuous distribution of springs acting between crack surfaces. the approximate weight function was introduced to obtain the stress intensity factor of patched crack subjected to residual stress or non-uniform stress. The stress intensity factors for the partially patched crack within finite plate or the patched crack initiated from a notch were successfully obtained by numerical calculation.
