Conventional method for designing and installing anechoic chambers is to utilize porous wedges for the sound absorbers. As cutoff frequency lowers down such as 63Hz or 50Hz, the corresponding long wedges diminish the free field area of the chamber. In this study, a new broadband compact absorber(BCA) is introduced which absorbs acoustic energy down to 50Hz. Most prominent is that it measures only 250mm thick. A freely vibrating panel between the non-fibrous absorbers allows tuned absorption at the low frequency region in addition to the high frequency absorption resulted from the conventional absorber installed at the front. Standing waves at low frequency range are suppressed as the BCA modules which are tuned to the corresponding modes absorb sound energy effectively, resulting in anechoic condition. Not only the low frequency performances, but the high frequency absorption is measured to meet adequate conditions for the anechoic chamber. Realized BCA chambers are presented.

A turbogenertor without damper cage is divided into five regions according to compoding materials in the radial direcrion. And the electric and magnetic field of each region in the subsynchronous resonance (SSR) phenomena is analyzed in this paper. The analytical method is based on solving a boundary value problem involving a three-dimensional magnetic diffrsion equation and the basic function consists of the double Fourier series. And the electrical characteristics of the material and kthickness of the wedges inserted in slot of the region III, which is dependent on frequency, is to be investigated.
A lot of slot openings which are the rest of winding in stator slot can be applied by wedges made of magnetically anisotropic material in order to lead magnetic flux into rotor in rotating machines. In this paper, high efficiency single-phase induction motor was analyzed with a 2-dimensional finite element method by using magnetic wedges for improvement of efficiency.

The purpose of this study was to develop a new connection method between steel beams and PC columns known as SL connectors. Composite moment frames consisting of PC columns (or composite columns) and steel beams make the best use of advantages of both concrete and steel materials. However, the connection between two members of different materials can be complex and/or increase the fabrication costs significantly. The concept of SL connectors is based on using wedges and the emphasis is on a self-locking (SL) feature. SL connectors are easy to install and provide better seismic performance compared to conventional connections. To evaluate the seismic performance of the steel beam-to-PC column joints with SL connectors, cyclic load tests were conducted. Test result showed that steel beam-to-concrete column joint with SL connectors was able to provide sufficient performance for use in seismic resistant moment frames.
The displacement Deep-V catamaran concept was developed in Newcastle University(UNEW) through development of the systematic Deep-V catamaran series. One of the most important Deep-V catamaran launched to date is Newcastle University's own multi-purpose research vessel, The Princess Royal. The vessel was launched in 2011 and enhanced the Deep-V catamaran concept further with the successful adoption of a novel anti-slamming bulbous bow and tunnel stern for improved efficiency. It was however identified that the vessel has substantial amount of dynamic trim that limited the visibility of the captain. The dynamic trim also increased the wave-making resistance thereby preventing the vessel from attaining its maximum speed in certain sea states. This paper therefore presents the application of devices such as Trim Tabs, Interceptors, Transom Wedges and Integrated Transom Wedges-Tabs to control the dynamic trim and improvement of fuel efficiency of the vessel. All of these energy saving devices were fitted into a model for tests in Newcastle University's Towing Tank. Model test verification confirmed that the optimum appendage was the interceptors, they produced a 5% power saving and 1.2 degree trim reduction at 15 knots, and investigations of full scale trials will be scheduled with and without application of device to compare the improvement of performance.

In this paper, a numerical analysis is carried out to study the characteristics of supercavitating flows and the drag of relatively simple two-dimensional and axisymmetric bodies which can be used for supercavity generation device, cavitator, of a high-speed underwater vehicle. In order to investigate the suitability of numerical models, cavity flows around the hemispherical head form and two-dimensional wedge are calculated with combinations of three turbulence models(standard $k-{\epsilon}$, realizable $k-{\epsilon}$, Reynolds stress) and two cavitation models(Schnerr-Sauer, Zwart-Gerber-Belamri). From the results, it is confirmed that the calculated cavity flow is more affected by the turbulence model than the cavitation model. For the calculation of steady state cavity flows, the convergence in case of the realizable $k-{\epsilon}$ model is better than the other turbulence models. The numerical result of the Schnerr-Sauer cavitation model is changed less by turbulence model and more robust than the Zwart-Gerber-Belamri model. Thus the realizable $k-{\epsilon}$ turbulence model and the Schnerr-Sauer cavitation model are applied to calculate supercavitating flows around disks, two dimensional $10^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$ wedges. In case of the disk, the cavitation number dependences of the cavity size and the drag coefficient predicted are similar to either experimental data or Reichardt's semi-empirical equations, but the drag coefficient is overestimated about 3% higher than the Reichardt's equation. In case of the wedges, the cavitation number dependences of the cavity size are similar to experimental data and Newman's linear theory, and the agreement of the cavity length predicted and Newman's linear theory becomes better as decreasing cavitation number. However, the drag coefficients of wedges agree more with experimental data than those of Newman's analytic solution. The cavitation number dependences of the drag coefficients of both the disk and the wedge appear linear and simple formula for estimating the drag of supercavitating disks and wedges are suggested. Consequently, the CFD scheme of this study can be applied for numerical analysis of supercavitating flows of the cavitator and the cavitator design.
We compared the characteristics of Siemens virtual wedge device with physical wedges for clinical application. We investigated the characteristics of virtual and physical wedges for various wedge angles (15, 30, 45, and 60) using 6- and 15-MV photon beams. Wedge factors were measured in water using an ion chamber for various field sizes and depths. In case of virtual wedge device, as upper jaw moves during irradiation, wedge angles were estimated by accumulated doses. These measurements were performed at off-axis points perpendicular to the beam central axis in water for a $15\;cm\;{\times}\;20\;cm$ radiation field size at the depth of 10 cm. Surface doses without and with virtual or physical wedges were measured using a parallel plate ion chamber at surface. Field size was $15\;cm\;{\times}\;20\;cm$ and a polystyrene phantom was used. For various field sizes, virtual and physical wedge factors were changed by maximum 2.1% and 3.9%, respectively. For various depths, virtual and physical wedge factors were changed by maximum 1.9% and 2.9%, respectively. No major difference was found between the virtual and physical wedge angles and the difference was within 0.5. Surface dose with physical wedge was reduced by maximum 20% (x-ray beam : 6 MV, wedge angle : 45, SSD : 80 cm) relative to one with virtual wedge or without wedge. Comparison of the characteristics of Siemens virtual wedge device with physical wedges was performed. Depth dependence of virtual wedge factor was smaller than that of physical wedge factor. Virtual and physical wedge factors were nearly independent of field sizes. The accuracy of virtual and physical wedge angles was excellent. Surface dose was found to be reduced using a physical wedge.

In the case of Impingement of plane moving shock wave over concave or convex double wedges (pseudo-stationary flow) and cylindrical walls (truly non-stationary flow), it Is expected that there are transitions from regular reflection to Mach reflection or vice versa In shock wave reflections. In these connections, it is necessary to verify the various of reflection process and transition angle for the reflection problems In double wedges, and to verify the transition angle, effects of curvature radius and initial wall angle on it for the reflection problems In cylindrical walls. Especially, we focused our attention to confirm the existence of hysteresis phenomenon induced by the different transition processes, and Neumann paradox, which is a small discrepancy between theoretical and experimental transition angles. Experiments were carried out by using the shock tube of $6{\times}6cm^2$, and high speed photographic technique consisted of delay unit, triggering system, light source of Xe lamp and so on was used for flow visualization.
This report described the corrosion structure of excavated iron artifacts in terms of simple model based on the knowledge of the corrosion process. (Fig.1)(Table 1,2)In storing the objects, there are basically three ways in which they either break in wedges, flakes and dish-shaped flakes. Completely mineralized objects or those with only a small iron core tend to break into wedges and more solid objects either split small dish-shaped flakes or large flat ones.(Fig. 2,3,4)There are two ways, therefore, to prevent this from happening. One is to keep the artifacts rigorously dried in Silica-gel, never allowing the relative humidity to rise. This is feasible which the artifacts are in store but causes great difficulty if they are wanted for museum display. Because they still contain $ FeCl _2$ they are always at risk ; they contain the seeds of their own destruction. The other alternative is to use of washing process to dissolve out the $ FeCl _2$. In this connection, many different methods to stabilize the artifact have been employed; boiling iron in frequent changes of water, soaking in Na-sesquicarbonate solution, soaking in alkaline Na-sulphite solution. In this report, introduced the alkaline sulphite method by the N.A. North and C.Pearson.Finally, Let me extend my thanks to Ancient Monument Lab., Museum of London Conservation Lab., British Museum Conservation Div. and National Maritime Museum Conservation Lab. who have helped me and made many valuable suggestions.
