  • In order to 1ransport the steel roll coil effectively and safely to the destination, the stability of the steel roll coil which induced the minimum movements during the 1ransportation was s1rongly required. The basic 1ransportation equipment for the steel roll coil such as the wedge is made of 100% imported wood known as the apitong. However, the material characteristic such as the rigidity has caused permanent damages to the steel roll coil and the damaged steel roll coils were not easily restorable. Thus it was unsuitable for other purposes. The introduction of new materials to manufacturing wedges which would have a good recovery performance and thus enable the wedge prevention or reduction to the steel roll coil or any other products during the 1ransportation is needed. Due to the fact that recovering damage of the coil is almost impossible, we have to find the new type of wedge that can substitute the apitong wedge. Therefore, we are going to develop a wedge that does not damage rolled steel coil and has better recovery and softness than existing apitong wedge.

  • In this study, the pullout resistance characteristic of a wedge-shaped soil nail, made by attaching small steel sticks to the tip of a nail in a wedge shape, was investigated. It was developed to improve the overall pullout resistance capacity of the existing soil nail system, composed of nail and grout, by making the wedge provide additional pullout resistance. In order to evaluate the pullout resistance of the wedge shape-soil nail, field pullout tests were conducted, and the results were compared with those for the existing soil nail without the wedge. The field test results showed that the pullout resistance capacity of the wedge-shaped soil nail was 50% larger than that of the existing soil nail without the wedge.

  • The rail clamp is the device to prevent the crane slips along rails from the wind blast as well as to locate a container crane in the set position in operating mode. In this study we conduct the research for the sliding distance of rail clamp and the proper position of supporter with respect to the wedge angle in the wedge type rail clamp. The sliding distance to display the clamping force of the jaw pad corresponding to the design wind speed criteria is determined by the total displacement of the rail clamp at the roller center and the wedge angle. And the supporter is the device to prevent the overload which is applied on each part of the rail clamp by wind speed increment, because a clamping force is generated by the sliding of the wedge due to the wind. Accordingly the position of the supporter to prevent the overload is determined by analyzing the forces applied to the rail clamp. In order to analyze the sliding distance and the proper position of supporter with respect to the wedge angle as the wind speed is 40m/s, 5-kinds of wedge angles, such as 2, 4, 6, 8, $10^{\circ}$, were adopted as the design parameter.

  • The wedge filter has two movements, fixed and dynamic. In this study, the depth dose distribution was analyzed to determine the stability of the dose distribution and dose volume histograms obtained by evaluating the usability of the critical normal tissue dose around the tumor dose. The depth dose was analyzed from the dose distribution from a Linac (6 MV and 10 MV irradiation field of energy $20{\times}20cm^2$, wedge filter with a SSD of 100 cm and $15^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$ Y1-in (Left -7 cm), Y2-out(Right +7 cm). To analyze the fluctuations of the depth dose, a fixed wedge and dynamic wedge toe portion was examined according to the energy and angle because the size of the fluctuations was included in the error bound and did not show significant differences. The neck, breast, and pelvic dosimetry in tumor tissue are measured more commonly with a dynamic wedge than a fixed wedge presumably due to the error range. On the other hand, dosimetry of the surrounding normal tissue is more common using a fixed wedge than with a dynamic wedge.

  • Purpose : We have compared the characteristics of Siemens virtual wedge device with physical wedges for clinical application. Materials and Methods : We investigated the characteristics of virtual and physical wedges for various wedge angles (15, 30, 45, and 60$^{\circ}$) using 6- and 15MV photon beams. Wedge factors were measured in water using an ion chamber for various field sizes and depths. In case of virtual wedge device, as upper jaw moves during irradiation, wedge angles were estimated by accumulated doses. These measurements were performed at off-axis points perpendicular to the beam central axis in water for a 15cm${\times}$20cm radiation field size at the depth of loom. Surface doses without and with virtual or physical wedges were measured using a parallel plate ion chamber at surface. Field size was 15cm H20cm and a polystyrene phantom was used. Results : For various field sizes, virtual and physical wedge factors were changed by maximum 2.1% and 3.9%) , respectively. For various depths, virtual and physical wedge factors were changed by maximum 1.9% and 2.9%, respectively. No major difference was found between the virtual and physical wedge angles and the difference was within 0.5$^{\circ}$ . Suface dose with physical wedge was reduced by maximum 20% (x-ray beam :6 MV, wedge angle:45$^{\circ}$, 550: 80 cm) relative to one with virtual wedge or without wedge. Conclusions : Comparison of the characteristics of Siemens virtual wedge device with physical wedges was performed. Depth dependence of virtual wedge factor was smaller than that of physical wedge factor. Virtual and physical wedge factors were nearly independent of field sizes. The accuracy of virtual and physical wedge angles was excellent. Surface dose was found to be reduced using physical wedge.

  • We was investigate the dosimetric characteristics of the virtual wedge and it compared to the conventional fixed wedge. Also we was evaluate the quality factor of the experimental multi-channel dosimetry system for virtual wedge. Recently virtual wedge technique and wedge fraction methods are available through the computer controlled asymmetric collimator or the independent jaw in medical linear accelerator for radiation therapy. The dosimetric characteristics are interpreted by radiation field analyzer RFA-7 system and PTW-UNIDOS system. Experimental multi-channel dosimetry system for virtual wedge was consists of the electrometer, the solid detector and array phantom. The solid detectors were constructed using commercially diodes for the assessment of quality assurance in radiotherapy. And it was used for the point dose measuring and field size scanning. The semiconductor detector and ion chamber were positioned at a dmax, 5 cm, 10 cm, 20 cm depth and its specific ratio was determined using a scanning data. Wedge angles in fixed and virtual type are compared with measurements in water phantom and it is shown that the wedge angle 15$^{\circ}$, 30$^{\circ}$, 45$^{\circ}$were agree within 1$^{\circ}$ degree in 6, 10 MV photon beams. In PDD and beam flatness, experimental multi-channel disimetry system was capable of reproduceing the measured values usually to within $\pm$2.1% the statistical uncertainties of the data. It was used to describe dosimetric characteristics of virtual wedge in clinical photon beams. Also we was evaluate optimal use of the virtual wedge and improve the quality factor of the experimental multi-channel dosimetry system for virtual wedge.

  • In this paper, a wedge prism application method was studied to design a full-high-definition (FHD)-class high-resolution flexible endoscope. In the case of the conventional flexible endoscope optical system, the F number is made large or a liquid lens is applied to obtain the same imaging performance in a wide depth of field. However, there is a problem in that the diameter of the optical system increases because an additional light guide and equipment are required. To solve this problem, two wedge prisms were applied to the flexible endoscope optical system to adjust the image distance for each object distance. First, two wedge prisms were symmetrically placed on the designed endoscopic optical system. An image distance satisfying the target imaging performance according to each objective distance was derived. Next, the wedge prism decenter value for controlling the image distance was derived. By combining these two data, a wedge prism decenter value that satisfied the target imaging performance at each object distance was applied in multi configurations. As a result of the optimal design applied with the wedge prism, a target imaging performance of more than 20% of the modulation transfer function for a resolution of 178 cycles/mm was satisfied in the entire depth of field of 100 mm-7 mm.

  • This study covers the nonlinear analysis of anchor head for high strength prestressing strand and presents necessary process in improving the performance of anchor head. The surface of wedge for strand is contacted to the surface of the wedge hole on anchor head when it is fitted into the wedge hole, and the contact condition changes according to the level of load applied through the wedge. In order to analyze detailed behavior, nonlinear material model and contact element were used in analysis. It was found from the analysis that the behavior of anchor head is affected by the interaction with the wedge contacted so that the wedge in FE model should have the same figure as the actual object. Circular array of wedge hole presents better stress distribution than layer array even though the small difference in maximum deformation. Increment of thickness of anchor head and distance of wedge hole also improve the performance of anchor head.

  • In this study, the optimal support position determination and stability determination of the wedge wire screen were performed for the production of the wedge wire filter screen with improved mesh screen. In order to manufacture a filter screen using a wedge wire, the support rod wedge wire is first installed according to the filtering capacity, and then spot welding is performed while rotating the profile wire. In the existing manufacturing method, it was manufactured using a 3m rod wedge wire and then cut according to dimensions, but it required the manufacture of a 6m cylindrical screen. Due to the increase in wedge wire length, it is difficult to manufacture stress concentration at sagging and fixed positions. In order to shorten the time of analysis, a single wedge wire was applied instead of a plurality of wedge wires. The reliability and validity of the interpretation were presented and the results were derived. After selecting the support point at the 2m position, structural analysis was performed on the entire filter screen to confirm stability. The purpose of this study is to identify the maximum deflection of the wire for the production of a 6m wedge wire screen and secure design basic data so that it can work safely through optimal support.

  • The electronic wedge brake is one of the brake-by-wire systems with a self-energizing effect. The electronic wedge brake has faster response than the conventional hydraulic brake and requires only about one-tenth the power to operate. However, the electronic wedge brake cannot be implemented unless the self-energizing effect is reliably controlled. The self-energizing mechanisms may result in unintentional lock up and are very sensitive to environment and parametric variations of the friction coefficient. In this study, the electronic wedge brake is modeled into dynamic equations, and a sliding mode controller is designed based on the model. The performance of the proposed controller is verified in simulations.
